Advocates for National Democracy and Development ANDD has cautioned the government against forcing and making it mandatory for people to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
ANDD executive director Samuel Banda has since advised the UPND government to respect the bill of rights as guided by the constitution of Zambia, and not force people to get vaccinated.
“Zambia is not a dictatorship, we are a Christian democratic country guided by a constitution that respects an individual’s right to choose,” he said in a statement.
Mr Banda has however encouraged citizens to get vaccinated as one of the ways to combat the spread of Covid-19.
He said getting vaccinated should however not be a forcing matter as the UPND government has made it to be.
He said the government should instead use constitutionally accepted methods to engage people respectfully for them to get vaccinated as opposed to threatening them with punitive measures such as being denied entry into government offices or threatening their jobs if they don’t get vaccinated.
“The UPND government promised the people of Zambia that they will respect the constitution and uphold the rule of law, hence our reminder to them to honor the constitution by respecting the bill of rights.
The government has heightened measures aimed at averting the COVID-19 fourth wave by, among other things, restricting unvaccinated persons from accessing government buildings.
Health Minister, Silvia Masebo announced that measures will come into effect on Tuesday, November 30th, 2021.
Ms. Masebo also announced that wearing masks in public places including bus stations and markets will be mandatory and further announced that access to government buildings by anyone will require the production of a vaccine certificate

If you are not going to any government institution why should you vaccinate? Next will be the shopping malls. Again you don’t have to there. Next will be public transport. Use your BMW. Its your choice. If you don’t want to be vaccinated don’t complain it’s your choice but the the statutory instrument will apply.

Just bought myself one from Katondo street. I have even laminated it. I am told in matero, the certificate is even cheaper??
Small issue. One can choose either to be vaccinated or not to.
This is a sign of the peoples pure distrust of the upnd government. We never got such negativity as pf when we commissioned the initial vaccination programme.

National security overrides individual rights. Problem here is that the Upnd was against forcing people to adhere to Covid19 guidelines, so people are already hardened against rules and regulations concerning the pandemic.
I think Zambia is on the right trajectory. I was just thinking that Africa is always last in a lot of things and it looks like we are going to be last in the battle against covid because of ways of thinking.
The government should look to implement more rules to beat the virus and let us be the good example to Africa like we are in Democracy.
Educate people on the virus so they know that no one is trying to kill them but that they are being protected.

When a disease is notifiable, even your right to confidentiality is suspended and the State has the power to remove you by force. It is strange that HIV is not notifiable but you all agreed to get tested even without consent.
The prononcement by the Health Minister is simple and strsight forward. Don’t go to a government building without the certificate.If you choose to buy a fake one ,the genuine Virus which does not identify your fake certificate will infect and even kill you. The choice is yours.

Government is not forcing anyone to do anything. No one has a right to be a GRZ employee. It is your choice not to be vaccinated, and GRZ’s choice to not employee you. Freedom all around.
Just like there are conditions attached before you can be employed such as no criminal record, sometimes single not married, no drinking on certain jobs, must wear compulsory uniform for certain jobs etc. So the vaccine also will become part of those conditions.
Protecting public health overrides individual choices of not being vaccinated. The government through the Ministry of Health has the responsibility for public health. Government respects individual choices but is right in making it clear that any individuals who don’t want to show evidence of a Covid vaccination certificate when visiting a government office, should avoid visiting government offices. The Minister should have added that should anyone be caught with a fake covid certificate, the charges and consequences will even be more taxing! So individuals who choose not to get vaccinated are not forced to vaccinate, but government has the responsibility to protect government offices and public places from individuals who choose not to vaccinate against Covid.

Let us not forget that corona virus was weaponized in a science lab in the program known as GAIN OF FUNCTION study. COVID 19 is known as Novel virus because it does not exist in nature in its current form. Meaning the corona viruses which exist in nature were engineered or manipulated in some laboratory.
