Body viewing set for tomorrow

Share

The body of late President Levy Mwanawasa, which arrived in the country this morning, is lying-in-state at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.

Tomorrow has since been set as day for viewing of the body of the President who died on August 19 in Paris France, where he was hospitalised after suffering a stroke in Egypt on June 29.

Zambians from all walks of life thronged the Mulungushi International Conference centre to have a glimpse of the body of the late Dr Mwanawasa.

Only a limited number of people were, however, allowed entry into the Mulungushi Hall where the body is lying-in-state, a measure taken to ensure the programme is conducted in an orderly and dignified manner.

The Zambia Army Brass Band blew trumpets while an army brigade gave a military salute as the Casket containing Dr Mwanawasa’s body was laid on the dais placed at the centre of the main hall at MICC.

The brass band also played some solemn music as First Lady, Maureen Mwanawasa, and Acting President Rupiah Banda, laid the wreaths on the dais on which the body is placed.

Prominent among the mourners were First President, Kenneth Kaunda, opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and Catholic Nuncio Grasoli.

Others were Chief Justice Enerst Sakala, Speaker of National Assembly Amusaa Mwanamwambwa, Members of Parliament from both the ruling and opposition parties, civil society and union leaders.

Zambia Army Chaplain Reverend Colonel, James Phiri, said the late President Mwanawasa left a legacy because he put in place a pattern that he adhered to when executing programmes.

Rev. Col. Phiri prayed that the first family, government and the nation as whole accept the death of Dr Mwanawasa because only God knew the purpose why the President died before accomplishing is mandate.

He challenged political leaders to ensure that the ‘tourch of leadership’ from the late Dr Mwanawasa is handed over to a person who would handle national affairs in a manner that would positively impact on the welfare of the people.

He expressed hope that God would give Zambia a successor who would have the interest of the people at heart.

Rev. Col.Phiri indicated to the First Lady Mrs Mwanawasa that Zambians were praying without ceasing for improved health of Dr Mwanawasa during the period he was hospitalised.

He assured the first family of continued spiritual support through prayers during the trying moment.

  5. Why was the original program changed? Does anybody know? On TV they said that Mrs. Mwanawasa had asked for the change. The original plan was that the body viewing was supposed to start today at Mulungushi Conference Centre after the laying of the wreaths.

  6. What were the exact questions Caristo asked French pilots that have placed him on the chopping board from disgusted bloggers on the other news item? They’ve lacerated him as an unreformed villager from Mweru Wantipa. Please enlighten me.

  7. RIP my beloved president.
I and many others were strong supporters of you from other bloggs like Information dispatch when many were not sure of you from the very begining.
You made me proud to be zambian. I started wearing my countries colours with pride and can hold my own with any nationality.
Comon thieves, beware of plot 1. It is not a good place to go to and try and steal right now.

I was itching to come for the funeral as I am so overwhelmed with emotions! but A 21 HOURS ONEWAY FLIGHT WILL MAKE ME SO SOGGY, MY FEET WILL BE SWOLLEN, MY EYES ARE PUFFY AND I WILL BE UNRECOGNISABLE AS AM WAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING, SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAMING AND WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPING, LO’ HELLLLLLLP ME!

  11. #12 I think u are better off sticking to better tv(that is if u are pa zed),you will get a better glimpse that way.Am told that the whole reason why the coffin is covered in zed flag is because it is glass….they will uncover it when body viewing so that anyone can see the whole body without even getting close to the coffin.

  12. MWE BA PA ZED PLZ HEPLP US WHO ARE STUDYING ABROAD BE CREATIVE USE YO CAMERA PHONES TO CAPTURE SOME VIDEO FOR US YA SHANI KANSHI!!!!

  15. No body viewing today: Could have been to do with not having embalmed the body properly. These things do happen.

  16. Ba LT we are asking for the picture of the late president in the cofin 2molo on the blog so that these guys who just insult can see that for sure abakamba ba Levy balifwa. Also get my photo just when I will be viewing the body. I will put on a yellow suit without shoes with ulupala nkalembamo ati seka uponoke so that these blogers can see how Ponyax looks.

  17. There is nothing wrong with the body viewing being set for tomorrow. Procdure and protocol have to be followed. It is a state funeral andnot an ordinary one.
There was no need for former president Chiluba need to be at the airport to among those who received the body. Angain procedure. He will be there at the body viewing ceremony. The casket is copper by the way. May his soul rest in peace.

  18. We’ve lost ilamba lya mwaume banono pa Zed na Africa bonse niba ngwele. He refused to feed us on GMOz, He refused to lick Bob’s boots, when everybody including Mbeki was scrumbling for his (Mugabe) patapata Dear Levy took his stand and called a spade a spad (not a big spoon).

May God raise another to continue the legacy, God comfort Zambia, God comfort the First family and confound the looters!
    MHSRIP

  19. When will Maureen stop overriding cabinet? Cabinet wear the pants, Maureen does not have the power to fire any of you any more !!

  20. I would also like to listen to the procession. Which radio website can I use? The BBC radio site had a brief report, but it seems that the local Zambian radio stations do not currently offer online reports. MHSRIP.

  21. LPM funeral is no big deal.It is just protocal ! Unless you have been brain washed. Non of you commentor have asked a photo of your dead relative.
    Be for real !

  22. #7 Apparently, the body was not checked upon arrival from the airport. The casket was removed from the plane and the procession immediately moved on to MCC. Once there the hall was already full of people, they again didnt have time to sort themselves out, hence the reason why they asked that the body viewing be done today, so they could make sure everything’s ok.(Typical of this govt.)

  23. # 27 CK you can get radio 1 &4, qfm, radio phoenix, yasani and christian voice on line. I just followed the advice from ba guy on the other blog ( pro Chiwa ). first down load and install the iTunes programe and its free. Then go to coppernet.com and you will see the names for zed radio stations you can get online. Just click on the one you want and it will be stored there and then. Am even listening to kabusha takolelwe obowa just waiting for the guys to take me to mulungushi for the body viewing celemony.

  24. May we mour our beloved father in great dignity and honour. He was a true states man. I will researve a place for him in my heart forever seing the investment that is now there in NWP Lumwana in particular.

  25. # 7 & # 31,

What are you guys talking about? What do you mean when you say that the body was not checked upon arrival? They do not do that,, Once all the paper work is done from the point of origin that is it.
Upon arrival, the funenal home if any, or family just goes ahead and picks up the body and hit the road.

  26. Body viewing is about to commence, the late LPM looks well…..quite different. But all is well. His Soul Rest In Peace.

  27. #30 they say seeing is believing..why are you dening us the chance to see the photo. No issues we just want to see

  28. #36 This is Zambia, my dear. That would be askin for too much. The picture quality isnt so good either and yet it’s live TV.

  29. #32 I have tried and tried these on line streams aren’t opening up despite having downloaded itunes. Please share could there be something am missing out??? Will appreciate Ponyax. I am also in the diaspora 7 hours ahead of Zambian time and would like to follow the proceedings of the events at MCC.
    RIP Levy

  30. I salute the french govt 4 all that it had put in bringing the remains of our beloved president back home. Hearts off to the entire military personnel for making the funeral the way it is. You deserve a plus in the way you organise things. God our father bless mother zambia and comfort the first family. Aamen!

  31. Mwanawasa has left a legacy not only because he was president and state council trying to work nfor his country but because he died on his way to saving another African country (zim!! he deserves five thumbs up even in death! we will absolutely, completely, really miss you!!

  32. Chiluba and Sata doing the Body viewing. they will issue a joint statement.
Palabana will be his burriel site..thanks to his will. I wish he left a will saying he does not want to be showcased country wide..if he was watching this, he wud have said no to it.

  33. #48. Can you please grow up. You are an ***** and stupid. Don’t force me to insult you. Lets mourn our leader with dignity and honour he deserves. RIP LPM.

  34. Were is Shakafuswa, the man was always in the print and electronic media for wrong reasons. Shakafuswa, no more messing around, your great protector is no more(MHSRIEP). Lests see what you are made of now, I hope its not alluminium pretending to be steel.

  35. THE POST IS VERY USELESS THEY HAVE STARTED CAMPAIGNING FOR MAUREEN. SEE TODAYS EDITORIAL. WHAT RUBBISH. ZAMBIA BELONGS TOTHE PEOPLE AND WE DO NOT NEED MAUREEN TO TELL US WHAT LPM WANTED. WE WILL VOTE FOR A NEW LEADER WHO CAN TAKE ZAMBIA FORWARD. SHE IS THE CAUSE OF HIS DEATH SO SHE MUST SHUT UP AND STAY HOME AND MOURN HIM QUIETLY OTHERWISE WE WILL REVEAL THE TRUTH ABOUT LEVY’S DEATH. NOTE THE FRENCH PILOT SAID HE WAS TOLD LAST WEEK ABOUT LPM’S DEATH THEN IMMEDIATELY ZNBC CUT INTERVIEW

  36. Could someone please help me understand why an account has been opened by Barclays Bank for donation purposes towards the state funeral? Does this mean the state doesnt have enough funds for this funeral? If thats the case, then why are they taking our late beloved presidents’ body round the country, only to ask for donations from us poor zambians who are already heavily taxed. I must say am really a bit confused with all this…

  37. Could someone record the body viewing procession and stream it on youtube? To get the live radio streams, the best program to use is Winamp and then just open the streams on coppernet.zm Cheers. Please upload the videos to youtube someone.

  38. #35 I just asked a question. Did not say that the body needed to be checked first. I only asked if someone could answer why the protocol was changed at Mulungushi Centre yesterday. You should read the blog correctly before you answer…

#56 agree totally with your comment.Talked to a lot of people today about this and all are of your opinion.

  39. If Maureen is saying anything concerning LPM’s successor, then we will conclude that she killed her husband. The time is too short for a widow who is morning her husband to start talking nonsence!!!!!

  40. #56 Pazed it is very common in developed countries that an account is open for donations everytime something of some what big magnitude happens. The problem with africans is that you think if you have the money then you do not need some assistance

  41. Iwe #55 don’t write in caps makes it heard to read, especially for me. Good information especially about french pilot but gave me a headache when reading.

  42. At least ba Post has so far shown 2 pictures of the funeral procession at MICC so far!!! Whats up with ba LT??? No picture sure?? Us in the diaspora we need to follow the proceedings also, even pictures will mean alot.

  43. Finally someone has streamed the procession on youtube. Those of us in diaspora can now have a glipmse of the procession.

  44. People will only appreciate someone after he is gone. Shame on all u pretenders saying good about LPM when u hated him for standing against corruption only. RIP you excelency. U meant well for mother Zambia

  45. Hey #68 could you post the link for the youtube video, and which site has pictures of LPM, the post has a picture of RB paying his respects

  46. #60. You couldnt have put that any better. “In developed countries”. I really dont think Zambia can be described as a developed country. So, all the more reason this govt. shouldnt try to behave like this is a develolped country. I also dont think other developed countries go as far as taking their dead presidents’ body around the country, they are alot wiser than that and also know that as a head of state, he should just be in one place and not take him on “a tour”. That to me, is not according a Head of State respect at all.

  47. People LT is not based in Zambia. It gets its news items from Zanis. Have’nt you noticed funny looking flag and coat of arms.

  48. Those having trouble with the Redio stream if you have download itunes thats fine. To start streaming open the redio station link from the main site coppernet.zm they stations should be on the left further down if you use the links which appear on the middle of the page you will keep receiving this problem. It opens as if you are going to download a file make sure the default is itunes go for others then select itunes or real player though itunes is more stable

  49. They are askin for money from already over taxed “poor zambians”, insinuating that there isnt enough money but which money were they going to use to increase their salaries? Why cant they sacrifice that money and take it towards the funeral expenses.

  50. Pazed my point is that as a developing country the more reason for you to do so. As the reasons for taking the body on tour well if there are sponsores to fund it whats wrong with that besides its going to people who voted for him the most. The other thing is you need to look at Cultures in different countries would such a thing be accept in Zambia, well traditionally yes in the UK NO parkistan well they parede dead bobies everyday

  51. You conttribute if you have if you dont have stop talking for those that ahve something to spare. Even at church they dont force anyone to contribute some just donate out of quilt

  52. Please those with the latest upload on youtube kindly provide the link. At the moment i only managed to see one tribute to Levy by one Don Pilao.

  53. #78 Uchipo, the problem is that u cant differenciate politics and religion,I hope u are in Zed, if not, I hope u are planing on sending your contributions soonest.

  54. I have just read the editorial from the post and i personally feel that with everyone having go at Maureen having caused the husbands death(typical) someone has to speak out on herbehalf. I if any of you remeber there was a time that LPM was aquised that the wife is the one running things because of this and that. We all know that he had someshort comings for example him always fireing back at people who criticised him then he eventually stop i think Maureen had something to do with that And at the moment she is the only person who has greater insight as to what the late envisaged for zambia. I am not suggesting anything take it which ever way you like

  55. 82. Advise. The sign of dullness in a person is when he has no opinion. Why did you quote the post article if you did not want to comment. Tell me why. You are a very dull character and i wonder what you do for a living as it must be something that doesnt require thinking.

  56. #83 Its a well known fact that it was Maureen in charge of things. That woman became so powerful. And true she indirectly caused the death of her husband because her advise to Levy was not to let go despite his diabetes and hyper-tension. The person physician should also be tasked and charged for gross negligence. The time Levy suffered his 2nd stroke, he had actually gloge trotted!!!

  57. Look #84, what u dont know is a woman is in charge, like it or not. God forbid, but if it was Maureen laying in state.u would have been sending word to HE to move on.

  58. #83 Conman
My opinion is what i have posted asking to take it which everway doesnt me i have no opinion. A smart conman like you should know the difference by me posting a comment i have expressed my opinion

  59. MMD in central province dont want the party 2 hand pick a successor.they ve oso urged the party 2 allow every1 in the party 2 help choose prez+vice prez-radio phoenix news.it seems ZNBC+the POST r decampaignin H.H..found Post finito why has Chishimba(PF)withdrawn from NCC

  60. 86. My argument sir is that you picked the article from the post editorial and asked us to take it which ever way. To me this is not commenting. Anyway move on tell us what you think about maureen since you are trying to sneak her into your so called comment which i still beleive is a quote from the post.

  61. Mwiinga, the thing is that you dont have your own contribution, do not quote from the post.Maureen Lived with HE. Typical Zambian! its always somebody else’s fault, in this case Maureen. Silly

  62. hey guys i have managed to see some photos when the body get to zambia at the airport, passed the roads and up to micc you can try to see this just google daylife levy mwanawasa then go on photos hope you manage.may his soul rest in peace

  63. I have just read the article from the post, i think membe is also very dull to think that just coz maureen was married to lpm makes her special, what nonsense, to say that maureen should keep lpm`s legace is being stupid, if anything we should know that lpm was just like any chief exercutive of a company, he dies the company carries on and looks for a person who has the qualifications for that job, the company does not go out looking for his wife, so why should it be different with the head of state, so when membe dies the post be ready for mutinta as post editor, what sheet is this membe, have you been promised a job by maureen tell the nation.

  64. Let’s call a spade by its rightful name- Maureen dragged the husband to his early grave. Gentlemen do not be fooled, every medical doctor will tell you that the Mwanawasas were well advised of the dangers of that stressful seat after the first stroke. The London doctors were certainly wise enough to advise the president to step down. Those of you who’ve met Maureen or know people who’ve had contact with her will agree with me how much that woman loves power and confort. Did any of you yesterday see her at the airport? Ask us, who were there and saw her “unmourningful” face. Mwiinga may have twisted facts but he surely has an idea of what he’s talking about. Just watch from the terraces.

  65. #94 Gentlemen, listen to us people with data. Mmembe, through those Nchito boys got so connected to the first family that he compromised in the end. Remember Mmembe’s sudden U turn during the 2006 elections from supporting Sata to Levy? It was the Nchinto boys who convinced him to turn agaist Sata. Mmembe does alot of business with those boys and state house has been giving them alot of business. Watch out for those editorials in the Post. Don’t absorb everything Mmembe says- he’s a compromised character.

  66. i for one have a dislike for potiticains as they dont know when to shut there trap.
With that out of the way i think we should read the editorial in the context it was written. They believe that the people of Zambia want lpm’s strugle continued and that we dont or are not screaming out change like we did before so we should look for someone who will understand what vision lpm had. If you are married you will appriciate the fact that you wife plays an important row in your life. Suggesting that she should have a row to play doesnt mean becoming president but if it happens then it happens

  67. The MMD opportunists want to use the body of LPM to campaign (using govenment resources) by taking it to all provinces starting tomorow morning..What nonsense..thats why Lusaka is the caiptal city and centre of all events..not even princess Diana or Ronald Reagan was taken around the country. Well Sata has outsmarted them and he has hired a plane and will follow the body in all the provinces they will take the body.I am informed he is already in Chipata awaiting the body. The MMD (reminants), Membe and Nchito brothers will do anything to retain power and continue chewing behind the corruption front..

  68. Ba LT mwikalakwi? Don`t contnue fooling Zambians chaps coz I don`t expect Lusaka Time not to post any latest picture up to now bakabwalala imwe. Are ba shu shu shu or what? Give us the correct update bambuli imwe.

  69. I am dissapointed with comments from most of you, don’t you have any respect for dead people??? Zambians are not known for such behaviour, have a heart and see this as serious. No one is perfect yes its true but President Levy Mwanawasa meant well for us all whether you crake jokes or not.

  70. I have been surfing online more than 3 hours nowadays, but I by no means discovered any attention-grabbing article like yours. It is beautiful worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you probably did, the net can be much more helpful than ever before.
