Respected Researcher and Historian Sishuwa Sishuwa has charged that President Hakainde Hichilema is slowly becoming a disappointment.
In a series of tweets, Dr Sishuwa said President Hichilema is exhibiting a lack of judgment and leadership on key national issues.
“Hichilema is slowly becoming a disappointment. His lack of judgement and leadership on key issues (corruption, leaked audio, SA trip) is alarming,” Dr Sishuwa stated.
He said President Hichilema held so much promise that he never imagined he would be saying this about him only five months in office.
“Hakainde Hichilema what’s going on?” He asked.
Dr Sishuwa cited the intimidation and arrest of Reporters from private media and arrest of critics of allegedly insulting the President as some of examples of President Hichilema’s lack of leadership.
“The narrative of a democratic resurgence in Zambia does not adhere to the reality: intimidation of independent media; arrest of critics for ‘insulting’ the president; use of state institutions to undermine the opposition; weakening of civil society; continued corruption in Govt!
He charged, “Zambia is not returning to democracy, as many believe. The legal architecture that enabled the authoritarian tendencies of Lungu and previous leaders remains unchanged.”
“We often forget that it’s not about the persona or goodness of the President; it’s about institutional reforms.”

On corruption he has set up a fast truck court. The leaked audio, he cannot control want people do or say and SA trip, this is his prerogative. The dictator Lungu was constantly travelling abroad you never criticised him .He has given you the freedom of speech and you do not know what do with it. Why do you want everything to become perfect in 5 months after 20 years of PF destruction?
It’s obvious that inspite of the infrastructure development achieved, the PF had done more harm than good. But it’s more disappointing that the Upnd wood winked the people that that had a quick and painless solution to the misdeeds of the PF. It’s now obvious that they don’t have any clue on how to solve the problems. Unfortunately like in the PF era we have praise singers who want to portray a rosy picture…. because they are now comfortable.

My primary school civics lesson taught me that inflation is when too much money chase too few goods. This the inflation we used to have in Unip days…we had shortages so the goods became very expensive. But today shops and markets are overflowing with all types of goods. Yet someone here is telling me that inflation is reduced. Even the dollar has become expensive on daily basis.

Technically, inflation is an erosion of purchasing power. The Kwacha buys more dollars today than it did before August 12, 2021.

Consistency is important… when Shishua was bombarding the PF he was “A RESPECTED RESEARCHER” Today he reminds the Upnd to live by their campaign promises he becomes A FAKE. I have to agree with this assessment of HH… I have been saying this on this blog for few weeks/months now. HH’s failure to move and enact meaningful changes is quite disappointing. Just lip service with no action whatsoever. Either his judgment is poor or he has bad advisers. If only he just went straight to getting rid of that POA ; DOP and other bad governance laws, he would have scored some good points already from his critics like Dr Sishuwa. You don’t need to prosecute “insulting” using a criminal justice system (use the civi courts to seek libel and compensation).
He could have sent a representative to this Book Launch of his friend or just appeared via Video link.
