Digitalised NRC’s in the offing

Share

Government will next year begin issuing digitalised National Registration Cards.

Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Ndiyoyi Mutiti says government will change the NRC to enhance security features.

She explained that the current NRCs are vulnerable to forgery.

Ms. Mutiti told the parliamentary Committee on Government Assurances that the three year project will cost about 15 million US dollars.

Shesaid equipment for the project has already been bought and that the installation of software has started in Lusaka.

She also said government will also computerise the department of National registration, Passports, and Citizenship.

  1. We don’t have time to start queuing up again! Why do you keep changing things? After all, it’s too late, lots of Congolese already have Zambian NRCs.

  2. #1 – you’ve just given govt justification for the project to go ahead. One just hopes it’ll not out cost the struggling Zedians

  3. Good move. This is progress.

    @ #1 Wenye

Why do you hate progress. Why should Zambia stand still simply because you do not want to queue up. If you don’t want the new NRC, then don’t apply for one.

  4. When was the tender for the project floated? Which company has been awarded the tender to do RP capital to ECZ now Home Affairs? Zambia twasebana!

  5. Ok, i dont remember funds being allocated for this project in the national budget. where has this money come from? I smell a rat, its like things were done in the dark corner. Can smone answer #7? i’m interested? This looks like a repeat of Zamtel story.

  6. Here we go again now they want to raise funds for MMD campaigns. Anyway who needs NRC, the passport doubles that perfectly. No thank you.

  7. It’s about time.infact this is long over due.i wonder where the authorities in charge were all along.does it mean no 1 had the brains to think of digitalising that office(nrc)?

  8. I used my reg. for 16 years before it was discovered that I had been given a number that somebody already possessed. I now have to change all my documents including my payslips. it is very frustrating.

  9. #12 I think its good that we maintain the NRC’s , not everyone wants to leave the country and the passport is far more expensive than an NRC. The western countries usually ask for driving license but not everyone knows how to drive though they were born in these western countries. Not driving by choice so they would use like their medical insurance cards. As a photo ID. I think dititalising the NRC’s is a good move.

  10. They will treat us the same as they do with the passports. No matter what.Nichekeleko is the bigges priority for your documents to be processed. You know no one in the dept you are ****ed up.You hae to pay them iya mwitumba that is when they will process.Thieves everywhere .Ba Lazo

  11. On “Government will next year begin issuing digitalised National Registration Cards” why cant we start getting them this year in 2011?

Next year is too far for me.

Also, please work on linking the important documents like passports and NRCs with Drvier’s licences so that we limit ourselves on the number of cards to carry around.

On a related note, I am sad to learn that workers in the Kamwala area are still getting paid 260, 000 kwacha when the government has a new minimum wage of 419,000 kwacha although it is also a small amount.

    Be blest all.

  12. Does this mean long queues again and bribes for your officers to do their jobs? This what happens when you have no plan why not dicentalise the process so we dont have to be made poor to be identified what about the people in the diaspora?
