Chief government spokesperson and Information Minister, Mike Mulongoti, has said that the description of the person who the late president Levy Mwanawasa wanted as his successor does not fit current Finance and National Planning Minister Ng’andu Magande.
Mr Mulongoti was reacting to the interview the first lady gave to the Post newspaper over the weekend. The Post newspaper quoted Maureen Mwanawasa as saying that her late husband told her shortly before he died that he preferred Mr Magande to succeed him after his second and final five-year term in 2011, and that the cabinet was aware of his wishes.
“He knew that he had strengths and weaknesses, but the strengths outweighed the weaknesses,” she told the Post in an interview.
However, Mr.Mulongoti, who has openly backed 72-year-old acting president Rupiah Banda, said Mr Mwanawasa had wanted an honest man who is a good manager, but his other criteria did not fit Mr Magande.
“I do not think the president’s description of his successor in our last cabinet meeting fits Mr Magande. He told us he wanted somebody he could be calling a young man and this description disqualifies Mr Magande on account of age. Mr Magande is 61 years old and the president was going to be 60, so how could he start calling Mr Magande a young man,” said Mr Mulongoti
Mr Magande and vice president Rupiah Banda, who is now acting president, have emerged as the strongest contenders for the MMD top post.
Iwe Mulongoti, is Rupiah Banda you are supporting a young man? At least Magande is the younger of the two. So vote accordingly on September 5
The wolves are now showing their teeth…Maureen, you thought the respect they showed you when LPM was alive was genuine. Now they don’t fear you…….Interesting!!!
Apa chapala kwati uwa kuteka tapali.
Nothing rational can come out of Mulongoti’s mouth. As chairperson of the MMD elections Wing, we would have expected him to hold his opinions however misguided to himself and not influence the outcome of the process of choosing a candidate in the forthcoming by-elections.You cast the spotlight on Zimbabwe in thier last elections, with the Mulongoti’s speaking out loudest. We are watching you Zambians. we know that the process of choosing a leader is hard, but some chaps should just shut their pizza holes.
But this politics of poverty. How can RB be younger than Magande? We know u chap mulongoti is just looking for employment in case RB wins by rigging the elections. This chap knows that RB has all the machinery to rig the elections and he is seeking employment. No one will vote for RB for your information.
b
BaMulongoti pliz be careful with your spokesmanship. You may soon find yourself jobless.RB is VP material. You sound like you want to be his VP.
I think Zambia does not need a typical politician this time around. we need someone who is also professionally qualified to drive the country foward in this modern world. I strongly feel Magande is the right person looking at how he has handled the ministry of finance. Who knows rupiahs academic background and what does he know about the complex world we live in now? What has he done, even while the president was alive other than following orders?
People when you read try to understand the text. Mulongoti is not saying Banda is young but that Mwanawasa preferred a young person to succeed him and both Banda and Magabde do not fit that description. So given the two of them he supports mr Banda and that does not mean he is younger than Magande. The point he was trying to put forward is that Mwanawasa’s choice of a successor do not fit either Magande nor Banda as Maureen is quoted to have said.
the game is on, i don’t see RB losing because doing so or being disqualified by NEC will create a first rate constitutional crisis. The country needs to move on and build on what LPM has done, that can be done by RB as commander in chief.
Was RB born in Zambia? does anyone know RB’s professional background. If RB becomes president…ala mwandi, we shall be worse-off than being with the Kaunda…. he is still a UNIP chap, he has never resigned from UNIP…how can they make him president, Shame!
I’m still wondering why ba Maureen is giving interviews and the like. I suppose it is in best interest to remain neutral at this stage and not show her ‘cards’. Ba Maureen apart from a widow should be making any political headlines.
It is immaterial who LPM prefered as we a ‘democracy’ and assuming MMD is also. Hence they can choose the leader who will be respected by The people across the country.
My opnion is for Banda to continue as President until 2011. And between now and then MMD can at leizure find a leader to UNITY the party and be saleble to the Zambians.

While Magande might (note the ‘might’ !!) be a better candidate than RB, the overzealous support by Maureen and the likes of Shakafuswa will be downfall.
Others have said RB has been a UNIP person all along and became MMD only recently when he sarted seeing the ‘light’. His age will work against him and based also on his womanising his moral standing is not suitable for the office of President. While he married a girl old enough to be his granddaughter, he has still been actively cavortin with some known younger women, some of ill-repute ! Will he stop once he’s in State House ???
Mulongoti kana yebo, uli mubwa ncobeni…who the hell do you think you are to be making such unnecessary noise?do you think Zambia belongs to you?your days are numbered…we edon’t need the bull dog granny to rule …he’s too weak and old.you plunderersd and wolves are now rounding him up and showering him with praises so that you steal more…VIVA transparency and discipline…VIVA Magande…
MMD has no candidate to offer apart from Magandenomics or Pande ya culu.Bloggers its high time looked somewhere else who is capable to lead Zambia.Let us forget about political and tribal barriers so that we consider the ikes of HH,Felix Mutati or Kabinga Pande these guys are leaned and they have rich CVs to usher them in the higher office. The probem with the older politicians always is that they always safeguard thir jobs at the expense of development.Thats why here pipo are looking at same whom they can falsely serve as long as their jobs are safe.look at VJ who only a month ago was for the young generation but has u-turned due to povety of intergrity and moral.Thse guys are using us youth
Magande might be educated but he is not presidential material. He might have managed his ministry well and he is better off like that.
well not even RB is presidential material.
Iwe chi mauren, Zambia is not an MMD farm or Mwanawasa firm. We are going to choose our own man who we think will manage the affires of the country to its best and not just because Mwanawasa said he should succeed him.
Magande just concnrate with your ministry or else you risk loosing your job and house in chilanga.

Am glad to hear the first lady opened up the pandora box. RP should not use government machinery to lobby stooges Mulongoti and the like. He was brought in the mainstream by LPM as a way of showing gratitude. He should have declared interest when he was asked to stand in because of the influencial position of the post.
I hope Zambians realise why it would have been important to have an impartial person like the chief justice.
MMD risks to lose general elections with Banda acting on position of President should he not be adopted. NEC should not also fall prey, build or destroy your party.
Gentlemen, do not be mislead. The economy is being managed by Fundaganga. Magande is just a politician like RB. In terms of qualifications, do not just talk without facts. RB has a degree and masters. He is more experienced than Magande.
If Mwanawasa wanted Magande to be President, why did he not appoint him VP. Did he just want to use RB for his political survival.
There has been talk of RB being surrounded by crooks. Are these not the same people who were working with LPM. Did they not campaign for me.
Mulongoti should be ashamed of himself by supporting RB. If RB stands for MMD, for sure MMD will lose the elections. Mulongoti has seen the weaknesses of RB hence wants to capitalize on them. HH will win if RB stands for MMD, but if Magande stands they will be divided votes.
Let the blood bath begun now!!!!!!
Felix Mutati – while he may be learned, he is immature and too much of a womaniser with other people’s wives ! Not Presidential material. Give him a few more years.
HH is a good candidate. The only problem with him is most Zambians perceive him as being tribalist – which he may not be.
Kabinga Pande – at the moment doesn’t have enough support and fieldin someone like him would be handing the Presidency to Sata on a silver platter
That’s not to say, there are none available to take over Presidency. Others are there but at the moment cannot come up and put their hands up in fear of being finished by the ‘older’ politicians
Mulongoti you are a foolish man, shame on you, you really cant even reason properly. Honestly you can base you argument on that,of the two RB and Magande who do you think Levy would have wanted. Dont just focus on your job, there is a country to rule so be very careful. VIVA MAGANDE VIVA ECONOMICALLY SOUND ZED.
i agree with Anonymous…ZAMBIANS NAPAPATA NAKOMBA PLIZ….RB is out of touch with reality….in all fairness and FORGET ABOUT TRIBE ETC…..WHATS IS WRONG WITH HH,MAGANDE,MUTATI….what unity are the mulongotis talking about…someone challenge me!!!!!!

LT why did you even post this? Is anything going to come out of Mulongoti, is he sensible according to you LT? This is one scared prick, who has nothing to offer the country, the fact that someone vouched for him to be appointed cabinet minister does not make him a political authority. Anyhow, the man is scared for his job from a battered mercedes benz which was driving with windows fully open (indicating the aircon was not functional) to a black landcruisre, all expenses paid, you think I would not be concerned about my job!
Shame on the Post-Everyone knows your political agenda.
The Post is more political than some of our polital parties.
EAnalyst- i agree with you.
The Post believe they can change the thinking of the 12 million zambians-baloba ilyauma. They have alot of work on their hands-selling magande.
After selling magande, they should sell d.freezers to eskimos.
Anyway……… ifwe twakana
we need to stop all this nonsense its totally rubbish why MMD when we know RB has no vision and no plan for the nation where is he going 2 take our country lets not experiment things he just want to sow were he dint rip zambians should not be taken for granted being a vice, it doesnt mean that he Is brave enough to b the president lets vote them out i think pf has a vision
gentlemen, lets wait for the D -day we all ve our democratic right on who to give the winning card.
wina azalila basi, nebo ndabayebwa banene anu nchite buyani?
In as much as we cherish what the new deal govt has delivered, we risk losing that little crediblity which has been built. RB has no mandate other than the little trust which he got from LPM. RB represents noboby, other than himself in this case. Just nominated trustee on the NEC, not exactly sure if he has ever held any position even that of ward chairperson. We risk having another bye election by virtue of the workload in that position.
Its a big wonder to even see the people that are supoorting RB, the likes of VJ- one who was un ceremously dissmissed for being a liar and the same goes for Derrick Chitala aka Mbita.
If we want prudent fiscal management, we all know the man.
It is not all about who did this or that or who has this or that yet we need to take someone who will understand us, Lets think of someone who will take Zambia from where LPM has left. it might not be easy for one to decide of whom to vote for yet one thing should be who will take as forth and the other solution is through prayer. God bless Zambia.
Mulongoti, can you shut up please !! You’re making few friends with these hopeless statements you come up with. We get the message that you’re behind RB, now shut up. We (the voters) will decide whom we want.
Mike Mulongoti should be ashamed of himself by supporting RB. If RB stands for MMD, for sure MMD will lose the elections. Mulongoti has seen the weaknesses of RB hence wants to capitalize on them. HH will win if RB stands for MMD, but if Magande stands they will be divided votes.
The Post is instigating all this verbal barrage. Mulongoti’s point is not the age of RB it is the assertion that Mwanawasa chose Magande as his successor. Why Maureen decided to inject herself into the fray of this campaign before her hubby is even buried is bewildering. What is her interest. And today the Post says we ignore Levy’s advice at our own peril. What are institutions for if we have to depend on selection by a previous leader. We are a democracy and people always choose. Fred Mmembe and his gang know this but they are overcome by their own need to control the agenda of govt as they did during Levy’s tenure.Shame on Maureen, Mmembe, Magande and others. Sondashi for once makes sense!
UBWATO will silence everyone
If you scrutinze the list and names of those supporting Banda to be Levy’s succesor. A large number of them are job seekers and those who fellout of levy’s favour. These people like mbita, VJ etc are Job seeking and they know that the only way they will bounce back is to have Banda inside.
Banda is a coward and no courage. look at how he behaved when Masebo collapsed. It had to take MM to call for evacuation and he was there just shaking his head…
RB is an economics graduate from sweden and he was one of the young flyers during Kaunda time together with VJ and the others. He was a youth freedom fighter in the 60’s. He served as a top diplomat and was a Minister in Kaunda’s time. he is a patriot with Zambia at his heart and he delivired eastern province to MMd in the last elections. he has managed this transition so well and this is what angers maureen/magande and cronies(post etc). they actually knew LPM was dead and tried to use the period from June to July to secure presidency illegally. RB/George Kunda/Chituwo blocked them. Thank God for patriots in the army, police and OP. One Zambia One Nation
i was just thinking what if NEC goes for MAGANDE what can happen in MMD
Surely honourable Mulongoti should have gone a step further in his comments by naming the person he thinks fits the description given by the late LPM, that is if it is that important at this stage. Does it really matter anyway with the wheels of democracy on the move. How sure can anyone be that former first lady is telling the truth. Even if she is telling the truth, people may decide to believe or disbelieve her depending on their preferences. The late LPM was mute on the issue and he still remains mute (MHSRIP). May the best candidate win the presidential nomination for the MMD.
Someone please explain clearly 2 me.If,for the sake of argument, the office of the president fell vacant by death, lets say 4 months b4 the presidential term expired, does the constitution say that elections should be held within 90 days & if so would the incoming prez rule only for only one month b4 the next general elections.
HELP PLIZ!
The way things are going doesnt look like the NEC will endorse Magande…i would love to see whats going to happen when that happens…because he has my vote already.
no. 39. if mmd chooses magande then the boat will enter into state house. there is too much dirt on magande. further western, eastern, northern, copperbelt and luapula will move to PF immediately. Magande is using bribery at an unprecendented level. we have never seen this sort of thing since the days of the third term. its a shame on zed and on the memory of LPM. This is woman is destryoing everything the man stood for and lets not be conned by membe who is intricately involved in the plunder. his post owes a lot of money and zambian airways is under threat to be closed and magande wants to use NAPSA money to give membe just like they did with the lotto and the lebanese maureen partners
Ba post what do they have to tell us? Their objective is to crush the opposition. Sata is crashed whenever there are elections and later start using him after an election. HH says nothing right as far as the post is concerned, they have also differed. UNIP, they have a soft spot especially that it is not a facter and their relationship withthe old man. If it is true they want a person who is not corrupt – are they clean themselves?
Ba post mwasila, you will go with…………..
Its not clear what Maureen is trying to imply by saying Levy prefered Magande for presidency.. May be she still thinks she is a first lady.. Please wake up from your dreams Maureen. They think Zambia is a chiefdom where a chief can decide of his successor wish. Let the Legacy of the let President be carried on by his children in his own house not in State house… We want a President who is going to lead the nation… Let Magande run Mwanawasa’s house not Zambia.. Why should Zambians be subjected to Levy’s wishes? Zambia is a democratic country not an autocratic.. Please………
I think we need political analysts on this site and in Zed at large. There is a lot of info that people have which they are not using to dissect the situation as it is. Politics of name calling and finger pointing should be dusted to the archives in modern Zambia! We are in the 21 century guyz!
what did Maureen really say?Where can I read the interview without going to the post- can somebody paste it here?
Ba BBC kwena mulalanda, nomba unfweniko nafimbi,
VOTE MAGANDE, you have voted for the inflow of foreigners:- Indians, Chines, World Bank policies, good salaries for constitution officers, firing of workers (remember 500 Bankers), High taxes, arrogance, capitalism, privatization, family Tre for First Lady to continue.
ZAMBIANS THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can our FORMER first lady Maureen finish mourning her husband. She is so uncouth how does she start floating names, this is totally unheard of.We know she wants to continue being influential but her time is up and the Post we know is trying to cover up there scandals (Homosexuality,Zambian Airways etc)So if Sylvia Malupenga sorry Masebo put Amos Malupenga to this idea that editor in chief should think twice. We are watching.Mr Mulongoti what morall authority are you.Shut Up!
Mulongoti ulekashikisha nelinso kwati ulewamya. Just sit back and let us (voters) decide who to lead this nation.
What happened to the rule that the prez has to be born in Zambia? RB was born in Southern Rhodesia…
Come september 5,RB will be nominated as part president whether we don’t want it or yes.To start with,i belong to the oppostion and can not start wasting my time to campaign for some person who will only rule for three years.Secondly whatever economic growth that we will achieve between now and 2011 are pure Late Mwanawasa initiatives combined with his Vice none other than RB.Thirdly, what are these other presidential candidates going to tell the entire nation, they will do in coming three years?Lastly ,these others are just proving their perpetual indocile. It’s clear indication that their desire is not to rule but gain political power, to amass wealth and take to rule as a prestige.
38. realist
Shade more light you seem to be more than the ordinary here
#47
You can read Maureen’s say when you go thru DR Mumber joins presidency right here on LT
#51,if you are a foreigner keep it to yourself. We are not interested.Who developed America,Australia and south africa?
the mmd have they forgotten thier constitution? what does it say for someone to qualify for election to the office president? Are they not the ones who disqualifed Clive? Now they say RB, what a mess.
Is this the prophesy Joshua of Emmanuel TV predicted.
Are we yet to see a situation like in Rwanda or Kenya emerge in Zambia.
Surely, with the careless talk of Tetamanshimba and mulongoti which seem bent on hate of one particular ethnic group may trigger such sentiments.
Have people forgotten the country population distribution. Have they forgotten how LPM neutralized these demographics by being a middle ethnic person.
Please don’t underrate the cohesion brought about being segregated..neither should you ignore the minority and majority views.
Our country has enough quality..therefore pushing RB and Magande on tribal basis ignoring quality for self grandiosity is nothing but foolishness.
BA POST THIS TIME MWALUZA. NO ONE WILL SUPPORT YOUR MAGANDE.WE KNOW MULI NA NKONGLE THATS WHY YOU WANT MAGANDE TO BAIL U OUT
All of you bloggers are posting good comments but are MMD NEC memebers reading these comments since they are the ones picking their leader? As for RB, he lacks leadership qualities and has no ideas. He was apoointed V/president to appease the Esterners for voting for MMD in the 2006 elections.
I have no comments on Mulongoti. This dude doesn’t cease to amaze me….
Maybe the young man LPM was refering to was Mutati Felix, has he applied to be adopted.
ba LT you would do well to post some pictures of the potential 1st ladies to all the candidates vying for the top post so that we can just hav some judgment in that area too coz maureen wamusebanya for sure.the husband is not yet buried and even has strength to give interviews? she cudnt wait until thursday.jst coz she wants us to believe magande is the man? ba magande h=is arrogant bane and we all know that,he but hoping that would be turned into a serious and tough approach towards corruption then we wud appreciate him. but honestly, each candidate currently has faults for sure. but lets consider one with the best strengths and whose faults wont affect the millions of zambians negatively
Maureen dont take advantage of Sata’s mourning to vomit whatever u have in ur stomach. We all mourn our beloved ones forever but the first weeks especially before burial are so bad such that as a widow you cant even have the courage to issue public statements. Wait until sata buries his friend he will finish you. In the first place do you understand the word DEMOCRACY? We have the right to choose our own leader and stop black mailing us with Legacy. We actually need change, you mean you didnt see all that poverty around the country when you were busy touring last week? In case you were blinded by those sunglasses its now at 70%. What legacy are talking about? cont.
Ati ba Nawakwi is blaming FTJ Chiluba for the problems in MMD at the moment for introducing hand picking politics.
Does this man ever say naything sensible, “a young man” … Is RB one anyway? What hasRB done to be called a good manager.RB was attending funerals and traditional ceremonies for Levy.
Mulongoti and the others’ utterances just goes to show the calibre of politicians in mmd…..quite dull if u ask me.
I must commend Magande for keeping quiet…i think he is respecting the memory of LPM. He applied to be president, following the rules of the MMD and he shouldnt be conedmned for that.
But how come the widow has time to sit and talk to journalits? Well dont even know why i was surprised because she did say she is different. But for goodness sake she could have waited for the husband to be buried. It just sucks!!!
# 59
indeed, maybe he could be the one being reffered to for sure coz mu post, the 1st widow said the late LPM had 3 names namely magande, pande and ? the thrid was not mentioned.so who is that 3 rd young person? mutati fits in well for sure, haveing been at finance, energy and now commerce….suits a manager for sure.but anyway, tukeshiba pa 5th.
TK Ndola.
LPM’s choice of Magande must have been stressful, coz the whole bloody cabinet is full of Gold diggers whole cannot make meaningful decissions.Magande must has have said something sensible in one of the cabinet sitting ,for Mwanawasa to say,”aha….atleast someone has shown potential to think”
Balekeni ba banda beka.He has not said anything himself plse leave the man alone. He is the man of the hour if we dont want sata to rule then lets keep RB in office. You see Levy himself had a lot of respect for RB thats why he appointed him VEEPEE.VIVA RB.Magande just knows finances.
I think LPM could have been preparing Magande for 2011. Meaning that his unripe for the Job this time. And he can lose the election badly because he is not yet known by many Zambians, especially those who don’t read the post.
cont. In asmuchas I respect Mwanawasa and really sad that his gone (MHSRIP), I dont think he is a bench mark for future leaders, we need far much more. Lusaka’s planning is pathetic. People are just building anyhow, the compounds are expanding at alarming rates. Corruption in the civial service especially the Judicially has reached extremity. Workers of most foreign investors’ companies are eploited. In Zambia today, if I went for interviews with a white person, they would automatically pick a white person. Zambia are treated as second class in their own country. we need by-passes in Lusaka and else where. Look at towns like Kapiri mpnshi, monze, Pemba etc. One would think there was war. con
Is it true that Mahtani (maureen’s business partner) is giving K40million to to NEC members as a bribery for them to vote for Magande? Ba Realist you seem to have all the inside information; please elaborate
Lets forget about MMD poeple and check on other parties. LPM was just hand-picked and he also wanted to do the same. WHAT IS DEMOCRACY BAICHE? Lets forget about the dead chap may be he though Magande was going to be rip in 2010 but not now. Lets choose the one we want coz we are the ones who are still living.
Please, Mr Mulongoti, Mr Rupia Banda with due respect is not a leader we need today in Zambia after going this far with developmental programmes. We are tired of job seekers who have no heart for the country and the people of Zambia. we shall not sit but campaign as Zambians. If you put Rupia, then another person will win the by elections not Rupia please, come November 2008.
The game has been mishandled by loud mouths party cadres who claim to be campaign managers when RB himself has not uttered a single word. When were they appointed by RB? VJ, Chitala, Teta and the whole bunch of MMD stooges are just interested in preserving their positions. I am afraid, if their trick backfires MMD will bid farewell to governance and they will start jumping out of it like monkeys and that will be the end of MMD as a party in Zambia. Zambians be civilised, just vote for RB, as a care taker leader and ask for a proper scrutiny of candidates in 2011 after all parties have had their conventions.
ahhh mulongoti the man is a joker but for once i agree with him magande is not even newsworthy.what about shikapwasha since filing for nomination the man has been quiet
this is not time for idle talking and aguing over issues which have no positive impact on the nation
and its people.its time to watch, think and pray or else
mistakes in choosing a genuine leader wont come to an end.its not time guys to talk about who said this or that but to pray bcoz with God all things are possible
imwe, most of you seem to have accepted MMD as the only party that can lead zed ayi! You damn right!
LPM was a good manager and so is Magande. RB ni mbumba ya UNIP and soon mbumba ya Mulongoti/VJ/Chitala. Tubena Chitala are corrupt suckers who will influence RB to bring in plunderers like Chungu/Shansonga back to run the show. NEC vote wisely and by the way, every 1st family has issues in the closet. The Mwanawasa’s are not the first ones with such! Grace Mugabe, Cheryl Blair, Hilary Clinton to name a few and we dont even know the truth. These ladies maybe innocent.. Let us be fair and not make a big deal of something that we have never had control over.
MMD has done very well since LPM took over and we wish you the best in the coming pres election. It would help if we had political analysts indeed! They are the ones who should make the noise not Mulongoti-You are irritating us. Let the people decide!
Ba Maureen you are doing what you think is right – only God can judge you so never mind the vibes.
Iam so surprised that the destiny of Zambia as a country is being marshalled by pea-brains such as Teta and Mulongoti. Zambians wake up please!!! In this day and age you are still talking about continuity. Choose a president with grey matter upstairs regardless of tribal inclination. If we make a mistake now, we will only have ourselves to blame.
Kalumba is the main man in deciding who stands. So let Kalumba and his influence do the talking on 5th septmber. RB is okay only that he may not be able to control the remaining plunderers. He accepted the high salaries already and Magande too. Please read this pipo!!!!!!!
Guys,MMD is at war,and no one is able to stop it.All of them are become pro plunderers,do not trust them. The only way is to vote them out.
#78 I agree with you 100%. But Zambian being what we are ruled by emotions and not rational thinking we are bound to make mistakes. Any rightful thinking person cannot pity Magande against RB at all. But as we already know judgement is marred by our tribal inclinations. so people will vote for RB for those flimse reasons and usher in one of the darkest eras in Zambia’s political history. All the little achievements that the LPM admin. registered will be washed down the drain by RB administration. The man has got no direction and let alone no clout. Thieves cannot endorse Magande coz they know what he stands for and he is no push over. Sorry twalipwalala okey pa zed.
Age has nothing to do with governing the country. If someone is able to deliever then why not? Magande stands no chance in hell. He is too mean.
Magande according to Masebo is still being trained by her for 2011.
#15 Nchelebula
What? Magande cannot rule us, you are supporting because he is a Tonga Bull……..You want to start bringing cows in Town? We dont want Mabisish leadership, I can imagine you Tongas would be very happy if he was to become president, but alas! us the Zambians are going to choose our own leader not handpicking
#45,I SALUTE YOU ZAMBIA IS NOT A PERSONAL TO HOLDER NEITHER IS THE MMD,WHERE ONE HAS TO ANNOINT A SUCCESSOR,THE HECK NO!! LET THEM GO TO THE VOTE AND CHOOSE THEIR CNDIDATE DEMOCRATICALLY.THIS IS THE SAME MENTALITY WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO THROW OUT BUT A WIDOW WANTS TO DICTATE TO THE ZAMBIANS WHO SHOULD BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT.CAN THOSE CLOSE TO HER TELL THAT THE JIGG IS UP,CHAPTER CLOSED!AND NAIMWE SURE MAGANDE FOR PRESIDENT,IKAKA PLEASE KAMUTUBUZYA SWEBO KUNO KUMUSANZA TUMWAAMBILE MBOTUMUZYI MAGANDE OOYO(ASK US HERE IN THE SOUTHERN PROVCINCE SO WE GUIDE YOU ON THAT MAN-WE CHASED HIM IN MAGOYE)
# 84, If u’ve got nothing to say keep qiet, u are the people u think u are not triblist and yet u are who is talking about tribes here? are u tryin to divide the country on tribal ground? u should be ashemd. Shame on you.
RB, a man who wept in front of the whole country, too weak for a president. We need men, men with integrity and very mean with money so that the plunderers can have no money to steal.I would liked for RB to get the remaining three years and Magande goes for 2011.But I have changed my mind, despite no voting rights.Kavindele,RB and Nevers are weak men.Sondashi should comtinue looking for herbs in the bushes and the rest are just mere candidates.Mutati for veep. The way to go.Then get rid of Mulongoti, teta,Mpombo, etc they were all lapping dogs , then reduce the family tree.
u mean mulongoti doesnt know who’s older btn a 61 and a 71 yr old?
i am for who ever is picked for now.but come 2011 magande will be my choice.
#84
Your comments on no.15 are unfortunate! Why is correct for an easterner to support RB and wrong for a Tonga to support MagandeLets keep the tribe thing out of the discussion!
RB is better then SATA
PLS A DEAD PERSON CANNOT DICTATE THIS COUNTRY’S DESTINY, ONLY GOD CAN! LEVY’S CHOICE IS NOT EVERY ZEDIAN’S CHOICE PLS!
MAGANDE IS ARROGANT, SARCASTIC AND IS HEARTLESS, ESPECIALLY TO POOR. INFACT HE HAS ALREADY KEPT K20M FOR CAMPAIGN, WHICH ACCORDING TO HIM IS JUST PEANUTS!!
If RB gets the nomination, MMD will be able to use government resources as the law does allow for the a serving president or vice president to be provided with transport, security and public media coverage during political campaigns. On the other hand should he lose to someone else like say Magande I cant wait to see how the MMD campaign will play out. You will have disgruntled RB who will be head of government and be expected to campaign for MMD though he won’t be obliged to because in MMD ranks he is just a trustee. And as who ever gets the nomination will not be unanimously elected there is little chance that the party’s full resources will be marshaled towards his election. God help MMD
Ba MMD, don’t get too carried away…don’t forget that NEC is not Zambia. As far as I’m concerned, you can yap yap all you want but who ever you choose still needs to seek mandate from the ZAMBIAN people. Play your cards under the table, stab each others backs, bring back the VJs, Chitalas and let the likes of Mulongoti and Teta off their leashes, we know their kind and what they stand for…come November, we will DECIDE…the beauty of democracy!!!
we know mulongoti is supporting RP because of his job security but this time we won’t give you chance. Ukamwenako ukabwekela okowafuma this time its opposition. This is the end of MMD if you dont know, kuya bebele.
#43 (Shhh) & # 43 (realist) you must knw by now tht that Sata of yours you are supporting senselessy has no chance in these elections, even the kanponya’s who voted 4 him in 2006 have a new thought about Sata. They are saying the man is sick , old & does nt knw team wrk.
Don’t think that if you NEC want RP its the choice of the people, dont take us for granted we will show you our true colours, we are tired of you mulongoti, Tetamashimba because you dont know were to run to ngamulefwaya mukaye kulyabobene abakumushi musukilamo but this time no votes from urban areas.
Only BEMBA’s will vote for their man Sata and see if he’ll go to state house in the next 70 days!!! BEMBA’s have made me hate them coz they think they knw it all.Even where there is no tribalism, they bring tribalism. To hell wit u & ur tribalist Sata !!!
i don’t entirely disagree with 85(ka baby indeed!), but be taught that an endorsement is not an appointment. it’s within precincts of democracy and thus can be rejected or embraced depending on credibility of both endorser & endorsee.
& talking about arrogance & sarcasm,i give u, babies & elders, Michael Chilufya Sata!
The talk about RP MM and LPM is not sound. These are the arguments
1. The economy has improved under Levy with MM as Finance Minister. Who is responsible for this success- LPM or MM?
2. If you say LPM, would he have done it without MM as Finance Minister?
3. If you say MM would he have done it without LPM the appointing authority as president?
My point being, a good Fin Minister will not automatically make MM a good president. A lot depends on his ability to appoint a winning team. Or maintaining the current team under the leadership of RB.
hey, sori, ka baby is 92, though 85 is as baby… looking at his stone-age tribal inclinations (brewed in Magoye).
Zambia is a beatiful country & lets not divide ourselves on tribe.Bemba’s must campaign for their man on tribal lines (i knw what am talking about),Sata needs all the 9 provinces to go plot 1 so does HH.I heard some1 we Bemba’s are in majority so Sata wil win.I told him,”thats nonsense and u are foolish”.Bemba’s learn to co-exist with other tribes.
98. OK and what are you being by your comment and attitude??? Anti tribal? As much as I agree with you that tribalism has no place the position you have taken will just propagate it. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
Sata my foot !!
Is it not surprising that people who either lost jobs in the LPM govt or hold nondescript portifolios are talking the loudest on th the support for for RB? I met Mulongoti and Chitala with two other gentlemen at Cross-Roads Mall on Sat evening. I will not speculate on what they were strategising on. Other names that come to mind are Vernon Mwanga, George Chilumanda and Ben Tatamashimba…..are these gentlemen, with all due respect, who we expect to rule Zambia??
Give the Bemba’s there gonga tribal leader SATA & see where they’ll end up with him.Voting for is spoiling votes.(God forbid)That man wil b lucky if reaches Voting day at the rate his health is deteorating.
102, TK 1; What are you up to with your solicitation of tribal talk even quoting your encounters on the street. At the moment the issue is not PF, but MMD and no Bemba is among the front-runners. But whomever will be selected will need the Bemba vote or at least the Bemba language during campaigns in most parts of Northern, Luapula, and C-Belt and some parts of Central and lusaka provinces. But I agree with you on coexistence, and that the best candidate whichever party should be our next president.
Bembas, Bembas, Bembas….people where is this tribal venom coming from? There is nothing wrong for a bemba to vote for Sata just as there is nothing wrong for a Tonga to vote for HH…#98 plz grow up and turn from the stone-age way of looking at issues. Are you sure only bembas voted for Sata in 2006?….besides, we all remember how the Tongas behaved when they heard that Mazoka was leading 2001, don’t make us start!
Interesting how people can distort facts. Where did Mulongoti say Rupiah was young? Needless to say the calibre of people supporting RB is worrying – talk of VJ, Mulongoti, Tetamanshimba, I am of the opinion that RB is better suited to finnish off this term, for the sake of continuity and unity in the country. After all the late president had the confidence in him by choosing him VP. Be assurred of big fractures in the party after this whichever way it goes.
Have you also wondered why there is an undeclared canditate on the list Katele announced? My guess would be the big mamma herself – yeah Maureen or Katele himself. Why on earth keep the name secret? You guess is as good as mine!
National will? does it hold in a democracy like ours.
Lets be serious why is Katele Quiet? Why are not mentioning veterans within MMD Like Kavindele, K. Kalumba, Mung’omba or a person from the grassroot. LPM was handpicked so not do the same.
Kanshi Posenipo Ba KK(Dr. Kenneth Kaunda) if Nigeria did re-elect Obasanjo who are we to say No to KK.
To hell with you kamulongoti and your aged RB. No one is interested in pipo like you. shame on you, atase!!
Now is the time for clean and new politiscs in Zambia. What a chance for HH….
Maureen yawe, can you please mourn your husband with diginity and not yaping yaping all over. Its too early to talk about whatever, Did you really loved the man?? I tend to believe someone who said u caused the death of your husband by sleeping around with TOY BOY. Its tru!! coz I have never seen you breaking down from theday u emerged out of the plan, no wonder you can even apply MAKE-UP on your face while your husband is in the Hoard of the plane. Shameless woman!!!
If i was RB morally i would withdraw from the race. This clearly shows that man is not wanted in the MMD.He is job seeking and this has clearly shown on the number of high powered pipo who are being given money and staying at Chrismar Hotel and trekking to government house next door to bootleak. We know the pipo at Chrisma hotel and what they are doing.
Also magande when he wins the nominations in the MMD , there may be a big problem between him and HH because they are both tongas . pipo be rest assure that the southern part of zambia will be vote split bigtime and giving rise to MC SATA. Pipo think about this drama
Dont quote pipo am just assuming about the drama in the Tongaland when Magande wins the nominations its a fact anyway.
We cant allow pipo like Shikapwashya who plundered the resources of the airforce and sent the Migs to Isreal for repair which up to this day they have never come back only him knows what happened the aircraft
Everyone should keep quiet including mulongoti and even the first lady.Let the people chose.Mulonmgoti’s job and even all other leaders is to educate the general public in a democracy of how to choose a national leader. We all just talk and write that this shouldnt stand or that one should stand without really thinking why.the media is also misleading the nation.let them do some research on every candidate and lay them bare with facts to allow the people to choose with an informed choice
Bemba’s think evry1 in zambia has to be Bamba ,sry ‘Bemba.’
Its interesting that zambians have not taken time to research on RB.He is a man who is not morally upright to hold the highest office. He was a bestman to V.J’S endless weddings.Himself RB married endless times. How can a 71 year old man marry a girl born in 1979?when his first born is above 50 years. How can a wife to your son be very older than your wife?Lets not make descision emotionally.RB is incorectly placed to run zambia. What would be his message to zambians on hiv/aids ravaging this country?it cant be.Over and above that, the country need strong managers with a strong economic acumen.
TK1 @ #120, I’m sure you’re green with envy that almost everyone you know speaks bemba, and you have to know bemba to have a meaningful social life every where in Zed, yes including Mongu. While your language,if you speak it outside your village area, it might as well be from Togo. Chilakusholokota kumutima sana…..but don’t worry, you are not alone and it is not your fault….just learn it and your life will improve, after all not everyone who speaks it belongs to the bemba tribe!!!
In choosing a successor, Zambians should not be afraid or get paralysed as we seem to be. We should be brave enough to think “outside the box” and use the shadow of Mwanawasa as a yardstick only. That man is gone and we shall miss him, but Zambia must move on. There are millions of Zambians with equally good intentions for the country as our departed dear leader, and MRS MWANAWASA is not qualified to prescribe a leader, so while we can hear her out, we need not get paralysed or fear to try those that have come forward. To go along with Mrs Mwanawasa is to choose whom she wants. Does Zambia need that? Let freedom of expression and choice prevail.
#123, I agree a great deal with you but unfortunately as it happens in Zed, political vultures always de-rail the whole discussion. When you see VJ coming back on the scene then just know someone is about to be “killed”, politically that is. Maureen can not tell us who to vote for, but I bet you that if she had kept quiet, people would still have wanted to know whom LPM wanted or was leaning towards..to give her a break, she did not prescribe a leader but only gave what her husband’s thought were. She even said that democracy should carry the day, no short cuts should be made to choose the next MMD leader…that said, I agree with you that this continuity will take us nowhere, just same path
#122 Feel sorry for you but your comment is typical of you Bembas. I dont speak Bemba and I have a vibrant social life. I do not speak Bemba and quite frankly dont need to. I can choose to speak to the 6-8 million Zambains (Perhaps more, I am not a statistician) who are not Bembas without any difficult! Dont need it for job, dont need it to travel. What importance is your ka language spoken by a few million in the global scheme of things. May be I can be green with envy at the English, French, Spanish or Mandarin spoken by billions. You cant even compare to Swahili Motherf*****
Poor Chisapi @125, still in denial! lol
I am not Bemba by tribe, however,I am of the school of thought that believes the Family Tree have had their chance and its time for other people to take over. Change is good and I can see that change which change will only be tangible if we usher in a new Party come November. If Magande comes, the Family Tree continues, if RB comes, he is too soft and will still be manipulated by Maureen coz mark my word you will see how she’ll change camps as soon as she sees RB being nominated. I believe this is time for PF and I can even see a whole new Cabinet! VIVA PABWATO
IT DONT MATTER WEATHER LPM TOLD MAUREEN WHO HE PREFFERD TO TAKE OVER. THAT WOMAN HAD NO RIGHT WHAT SO EVER TO COMMENT ON POLITICAL ISSUES WHILE HER HUSBAND AINT EVEN BURRIED YET.. THATS TABBOO..MAUREEN U WAS WRRONG BIG TIME… PLZ BA FORMER FIRST LADY HAVE SOME MORAL VALUES BRING YO SELF DOWN TO EARTH THIS IS africa WHE MUNTU… WE HAVE A RESPECTABLE CULTURES PLZ… ULETUSEBANYA!!!!!BURRY YO HUSBAND AND PLZ DO US A FAVOUR SHUT UPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!
VIVA HH! New blood, young & healthy, strong management skills, untainted by corruption at least in my book, clear and articulate, progressive and modern agenda, and pragmatic. But he has 60 days to prove to the people that he does not think like #120……that everything that is bemba is bad.
Let MMD pick whoever they want, Leaders like MDs of companies rely on lower bodies and offices to give the factual information upon which they can base their perceived decisions. Our big man’s vision by civil servants who will most likely continue to be in employment…Whoever we pick for the higher office will get good support from these hard working guys. MMD is full of sharp guys bent on fattening their wallets…how the late managed to keep these guys bottled up is a mirracle…this time around we need a young honest intellectual like HH to work with the civil servants… Answer your phone calls with a “double Hello…”. It s HH a true realism pliz
If Magande wins, Maureen will be veep. I have been realiably informed.
If RB doesnt stand, definitly PF is going through and thats the man himself whom u chaps are afraid of mentioning(SATA).Magande cant do anything .when has he ever stood for himself,he debates with Given lubinda, can he do it with Sata?going by history i dont think he stands a chance.he even failed to win a clear constituency election wat of the presidence?mulekeni RB eminine so that he can use the govnt rsources but be carefull cos its time for PF.
Intresting analysis, lets wait and see what happens just after the burial.
Maureen will lose her benefits if see joins the Govt
For us its neither here nor there whom the late LPM would have preferred to succeed him.Zambia is neither a monarchy nor a chiefdom.Let all candiadates who think they have something to offer Zambia, who think they can take us to the next level, avail themselves for public scrutiny. Its time we realised that the true power in a democracy lies with us the voters.Maureens or Mulongotis preferred candidates need not necessarily be your preferred one.
The former first lady should continue to mourn her husband peacefully until Sep 3,intangling herself with political camps will not be in her best intrests at the moment and does not auguar well with us the ordinary citizenry.
iwe anonymous use your small brian #10… Zambia does not need some as slow as RB. This guy can’t decide on anything, they will just be telling him what to do. we are tired of these chaps experimenting on Zambia. its time step up and not settle mediocrity politicians fully parked in park called MMD.
pipo Sata is not fit 2 b president
ala thats true SATA is not presidential material but a spokes man for bus boys.
Maureeeeen is in a state of shock and disbelief as to what has befallen her hence her regreatable statement that ba Ze late had a prefernce for Mugabe or sorry Magande. LPM actually had a prefernce of my hard working son Castro.
It’s apparent ttht anything can rule Zambia regardless of the age. By the way RB is still very young. He has two twins below 7years and a 30 year old wife. He’s more alive that LPM was during the 2006 Elections. Wine get’s better with age.
Forgive us we are as equaly corrupt as those we condem and point our dirty finger at.
We want a person who can protect us and our interests eg Zambian Airways, Plunder Cases (we are also plundering via our HIGH LEGAL FEES from as “MNB Legal practioners), and some other deals which we are hidden under.
Ifwe ba POST tukondema balya abatuchinga.
So Magange is our choice and that is why we have descided to BE HIGHLY UNETHICAL by openly and shamelessly and without fear to OPENLY campaign for MAGANDE.
Mulongoti needs to get his basic mathematics in order.
Bring back KK to power he is much exprienced than an other Zambia. During his rule, corruption was an old song. He has everyone at heart. 2008 – 2011 he can lead Zambia forward.
# 106 don’t be foolish over someone’s death. You thinking death is a respecter of personality.
You and I can die today and yet Sata live up to the next 10- what ever year God can allow. People talked over chiluba health and death. Still living the strong are gone.
Remember not to involve God in your rotten information from that damage brain of yours.
Foolish man
ba mulongoti taba tontonkanya sana ngo mwa ume. His brain is very weak and currently is just panicking with His position. there will be serious reshufales and loss of jobs. mulongoti you too dull to go before the minds of the people that think better than you do.
sorry levy protected so much and now is no more. it’s game over.
I’m non-partisan, but I have this to say:If RB is not MMD but UNIP as others have said, then leave MMD alone in the adoption of their candidate. MMD is not Zambia or government, but a party that has it’s own criteria of choosing leaders. I advice outsiders to stay away from that. Those that want RB to be president, advise him to stand for UNIP or as independent. If he wins that will be proof enough that the people of Zambia wanted him. For now it looks like some people want to use the popularity of the ruling party to give RB the presidential seat. Think again
Stop talking about “Blood bath” Do you know how far back the country will go, and how impossible it will be to rise again? There will be no one to rebuild it coz there has never been anyone to develop it. All have just been eating the money it generated. It’s a shame to see that we have done nothing with our peace in terms of development. Some of the African countries that have had wars are doing better than us on the world economic scale. While these countries have been fighting, we should have been developing ours.Look at Nigeria, with all the civil strife the country has encountered, they have managed to send their movies across the globe. Where is our film industry? Thanks to MUVI TV
The hour has come for PF. The long awaited Sata.
Ba number 11 Ba Chris Mwape please study your political history very well, dont u remeber that RB was the one who helped our late LPM to get the most votes in Eastern Province during the 2006 elections? and you think he was campaigning while in UNIP..do u think the chipatans could have given levy a vote if RB was still UNIP? And if your memeory serves you right RB was made VP after the elections in 2006..meaning he has been in MMD for at least not less than 2 years and a full member at that.. Sooo he got the MMD Membership card,, or did u want him to anounce to the whole world when he got the card..and do u think the fellow MMD members would have let him stay in MMD that long without a cad
