Kalusha Bwalya wins COSAFA seat by a landslide margin

FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya has scored a landslide victory to capture an executive seat on the Confederation of African Football’s executive committee. Kalusha got 38 votes against the closest Walter Nyamilandu of Malawi who got 6 votes.

Others in the race included Adam Mthethwa (Swaziland) – 3 votes, John Muinjo (Namibia) – 5 votes, Justino Fernandes (Angola) – withdrew, Danny Jordan (South Africa) – withdrew

The Zone Six seat, commonly known as the COSAFA position, was left vacant following the decision not to re-contest the position by incumbent and former SAFA president Molefi Oliphant.

If I thought for a minute that this was a victory for Zambian football I’d be over the moon but unfortunately most will agree that Kalu has only Kalu’s interest at heart…..never mind he used FAZ and Zambia to get to CAF but best believe that will not translate into anything meaningful for Zambian football.

For the 1st time in history, sponsors of the PSL are fight to get a contract. Football has become much competitive than before. We watch our own PSL on Super Sport. So jus one mistake shud not cost him his future ambitions unless u all tell me that u all supernatural being that do not make mistakes. BRAVO Great Kalu on your new appointment.   29. it is sad that most of us draw our opinions on information from the media..The Post,Lusaka Times,Daily Mail,Times.Kalusha has done well based on the reports that those of us have seen from Football House,he has made mistakes but by fay he has exceeded his expectations as Faz pres.if i were him i would now hand over the position to the Kamangas etc.Let them prove to us that they are capable of handling the business of football in ZM.Augustine Mukoka can breathe a sigh of relief also as he will not have to be slapped again.he has already been slapped in two different continents anyway.Job well done Kalusha,we might have dropped to the lowest ranking ever but our soccer management is breaming with improvement!

  41. #19 kalu has done some great things for zambian football, but do not be mistaken that for the 1st time companies are jossling to sponsor our league. the game has just reached advanced levels worldwide, and we are lagging behind. here are some of the many errors kalu has made regarding zambian soccer.
    i) since his arrivals transfers for players have all been contentious – kalaba, mbola etc, this affects form of our players as they have to serve long periods of being clubless. ii) player selection for national team is not on merit, he picks players that he can ‘chew’ from once they are sold. iii) he assumes he is above the law/constitution (signed 2 deals for 1 league & refuses to reveal terms of supersport deal). iv) its been almost 6 months with no local soccer.

  74. Anyway congrats to him. Now that he is above the Kamanga guys he should understand what their grieviances were or still are. It was not all malice there were genuine reasons why they were not happy with his style of leadership even though now he has been elevated to high office. A good leader listens and leads, its just a pity in Zambia we lack examples of good leadership. Everything is about blind loyalty favouritism and nepotism. In Bemba there is a saying that “infumu ila tukwa” ( A king is insulted). Meaning a king must bare with bad mouthing concerning him that goes in the village and still amicably.
