Don’t be misled about Arab unrest — RB

File: President Banda confers with US assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Johnnie Carson (r) and American Ambassador to Zambia Mark Storella at State House

PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda has said Zambians should not be misled by anyone that what is happening in the Middle East and North Africa can happen in the country because Zambia witnessed winds of change in 1991 and is now a role model of democracy.

Speaking before departure for Chipata at City Airport in Lusaka yesterday, President Banda said he regretted what was happening in Libya.

He, however, said it was wrong for some people to take advantage of young Zambians who may not understand the country’s history and suggest that the crisis in Egypt would spread to Zambia because the country was already enjoying democracy.

The president said while the democracy may not be perfect, Zambians were working hard to refine the system.

“What is happening in Libya is very, very sad. I think that all the governments must listen to people, but thank you for the question, let me just extend a bit to Zambia.

“It is wonderful to have peace here and in any case what they are going through now, what is happening in the Middle East is what we went through in 1991.

“Zambian people are actually role models, and the Zambian Government is actually a role model. The democracy that we are practising here is what they are fighting for,” Mr Banda said.

He said as a way to strengthen democracy, Zambia had introduced the Zambia Centre for Inter-party Dialogue to allow people with different political persuasions to express their views and improve the systems of governance.

President Banda said Zambians had confidence in the country’s electoral system and it was the reason why they refused to be used by Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata after the 2008 elections.

“Those who are talking and taking advantage of young Zambians who may not be aware of where we are coming from must understand that to refer to Egypt is wrong. These people are behind us. We went through that already, and we are a democratic country.

“You know after the elections in 2008 when I was elected president, because of the gap between myself and Mr Sata he really believed that the Zambian people will rally behind him,” he said.

Mr Banda said in 1991, first Republican president Kenneth Kaunda conceded defeat to the MMD when he lost the elections.

He said those who lost elections should learn to concede defeat to uphold their dignity.

  1. Even Ghaddafi thought the unrest wont sweep his country. he thought he is a good leader embrassed by all. At least this comment shows RB aware of consequenses. let him do the correct thing to avoid People POWER sweeping him OUT. Ghaddafi always proclaimed the people are the masters. Now the same masters dont want him and he refuses to GO,.

  2. I agree that the situations are very different and cannot compared. The governments being ousted were never put in place democratically. Viva RB!

  3. What is causing the revolution in the arab world is not only the issue of free speech or freedom of movement.

Its also about basic necessities of life such as jobs, higher prices of food, poverty health & education etc. These are things that are lacking in Zambia.

As a nation we feel inspired by the peaceful protests in the Arab world and we can do it too.

Nyama soya should not blind himself that it cant happen in Zed unless he responds with brutal force and cause genocide like his friend he gave ZAMTEL to has done

  4. Words of wisdom. Perfectly stated and I salute you Mr President. There is no need to fight when other avenues of disagreements exist. Indeed we have already been there in 1991 when scores of Zambians came together to fight for the change of regime that had overstayed. It was not just UNIP people were tired of but one man in power for too long. Viva RB, you have really impressed me with response.

  5. #1 How shallow minded can you get? Comparing Gadafi to RB? Come on please , get a life. Libya and Zambia are like night and day when it comes to governance. Maybe you need some free education. Gadafi has been rulling for 41 years. RB just over 2 years. Libya is not a Democracy , Zambia is. Zambia has a free press that allow even gutter journalist papers like the POST and Libya does not. Zambia has a formal army , Libya does not and rely on mercenaries and hired guns to protect their country.

These are two different countries. If you want to kick out RB, there is only one way. Through the ballot. If your PF can’t get that Dictator of yours into power, please leave our youths alone and accept defeat. By the way, we are still waiting for a Mpulungu appeal from PF

  6. what rb is saying is not true each country have it own reason of demonstrating so even in zambia it can happen especially where our young people if no hope for better tomorrow so potician should work hard to creat atmoshpere where young people will dream dreams

  7. I just saw a picture of Dora Siliya in the Post Newspaper of today talking about withdrawing the Bill of selling our schools in parliament, good lord the girl is fat, is it not Hippopotamus amphibious we are talking about here? If one came across her by the Olympic Swimming pool in Lusaka or by the Kariba North Bank beach among her kind, I swear you will think “it” is one of two extant species in the family Hippopotamidae. She should be ashamed for saturating herself with stolen ZAMTEL wealth like that. Now she wants to sell our schools.

  8. hahaha bane continue dreaming. zambians have no time for such foolishness and i love them for it. we are very peace loving people who have never heard a bomb or grenade go off behind our house. we dont want to start now.”Tatulefwaya fyaku lwa lwa tatwakotokwakuya.” 1996 Elections slogan

  9. You People I don’t even know why you are commenting on this! LT Is just giving us same news as Times of Zambia. What kind of Journalism is this!! We are going to have problems in Zambia if the MMD continues oppressing people. Fuel has been hiked, people dont have food, transport has been increased.. what kind of government is this? MMD Chief Bootlicker youa re a liar.

  10. The President missed the point….I mean totally!
Insala mdala, is what is pulling people to the streets in Arab world.
    Got it?
The governance issue, democracy b ullshi t is nothing. People don’t eat democracy.

  11. In 1989, I remember Kenneth Kaunda saying exactly the same thing about what was happening in Romania when his friend, then president Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife Elena were shot by a firing squad for corruption and dictatorship. Now, Banda should heed Panji’s advise, peoples’ aspirations for good governance is the same regardless of race, religion, gender or where they live. If as Panji stated you close your eyes and listen to what the Egyptians were demanding, I swear you will think its Zambians. Banda can only ignore the wise Col. Advise at his own peril. Besides, who is misleading who here? Isn’t he the one who is always sleeping in meetings, when he is not flying around aimlessly wasting our money?

  12. #7, nothing wrong with dora, i love her…. one man’s meat, another man’s poison. i am sure i would find your woman equally revolting

  13. The only reason why it cant happen in Zambia is because the Zambian people are docile. They do not know how to fight for what they deserve. This is evident not only in politics but in everyday life. The cause for the Arab uprising applies even to Zambia. Its about those in power being selfish and not delivering to the people. Its not about democracy and having elections. Already when a leader and soome people fail to understand this point I realise that we are stuck on this path of non development.

  14. #9&10 the world market determines fuel prices. its uneducated people who dont understand international economics who want to make noise about such things. about nsala, i have no sympathy for able-bodied ppl who can grow food but dont want to because nibamu town. nchito its hanging muma bar drinking tujilijili and chibuku ya K2500..

  15. Well, he i busy taking us back to pre-1991 by imposing candidates everywhere, manipulating the judiciary, engendering corruption and fraternizing with convicted plunderers of our coffers while organizing their acquittals and shooting innocent civilians in Mongu. This is pre-1991 he has brought us to and we are ripe as Egypt to kick him out.

  16. the world market determines fuel prices bane. about insala, i have no sympathy for able-bodied ppl who can grow food but dont want to because nibamu town. nchito its hanging muma bar drinking tujilijili and chibuku ya K2500..

  17. @ 17 TX; I think you got all wrong and fine I do agree that able bodied people spend their time in bars thats true but you will see when we go towards elections fuel will reduce.. just because they want votes.

  18. I know were to buy guns Rupiah is going we are going to organise ourselfs.Ka small war kwasila,He can not chase me like this ,he has to pay plus kachiluba.

  19. Look at the contradictions from this F.atso.

He says Zambia is the role model for democracy yet later says it need work on it to get it right.
Role model of democracy for whom?
Chiluba so he can keep stealing with help from his friend.

  20. You have to be naive to believe Zambia which is a democratic nation should have an Egyptian style revolution. Those countries in the middle east are autocratic regimes. The people in those nations are fighting for democracy which we have been enjoying in Zambia for 20 years now.

Why should Zambia then revolt? What reason would Zambians have to revolt if they can change govt by ballot. It is election year, go campaign instead of spreading anarchy.

  21. Am glad some people are refering to themselves as docile. The truth will remain whether you like it or not. RB though i dont support him is 100% correct on this one. The countries refered to have one thing in common and that is having dictators leading them. Remember these guys have been there too long and you dont expect one man to give you everything hence the need for change. If i were to grade our achievement compared to these guys, i would say we have achieved 90% and we are now targeting 5% because am sure you know we cant have 100%. Peace is the most difficult thing to achieve not even for some developed nations. I urge every Zambian to guard the peace for the sake of our children.

  22. All Zambians need team up and kick this A$$-hole RB out of State House. And thats when he will know that not everyone is happy with his weak and corrupt leadership of MMD. People of Zambia its about time you open your long closed eyes and take charge and empower your lost HUMAN RIGHTS and FREEDOM. Bantu ba ku Zambia maningi tulo. As long as this f@@l remain in power, he will destroy the country which is already destroyed by Chiluba. So we need change and fresh leaders to take over Zambia.

  23. We chased the P.I.G. in 1991 and 20 years later it’s reincarnated. The Zedians will deal with the P.I.G. if it rigs this year – the Tunisian, Egypt and Lybian versions combined!

  24. RB does not know that we know he is an agent of imperialism. He is a tool of enslavement and he must be ditched this year.

  25. The protests in Tunisia, (which actually pioneered what is happening in other countries) did not start because people wanted democracy but because one unemployed youth who was kicked out of the street where he was doing business set himself ablaze and died. Then people took to the street and demanded jobs and eradication of poverty. We are seeing in zambia a situation where simple jobs like grader drivers etc are being given to foreigners whilst the majority of zambians are languishing without jobs. You really wonder who gives out these work permits. So Mr RB, please don’t think that this so called “democracy” in zambia should buy you sleep at night because people need jobs, food education you name it. Democracy in poverty is not democracy at all.

  26. Iwe chi MMD bootlicker, what democracy with the same party rulling for 25 years. Are you talking abour ONE PARTY PARTICIPATORY DEMOCRACY? Its very sad to be your age but so unwise. When will you grow up? I cant imagine my father who is your age vomitting such nonsense!

  27. dear opposition: GO AND CAMPAIGN!!! its as simple as that. go and convince the people in mwanjabantu, ukwimi, malama cikunto, shangombo, chiundaponde and all other rural places to vote fore you. dont just count on the kaponyas and tujilijili drinkers in lusaka and copperbelt. you’ll always be crying foul. ba PACT get your act together.

  28. #26 and #27 you are the only a few of Zambians who can see the sufferings and the great damage this so called dictators from MMD has done to our schools, Hospitals, no Jobs, corruption, poor working conditions, Agricultural, poor roads, housing, water, etc. People need to shut the hell up and focus and see what developments MMD has brought in Zambia. Mines closed and re sold to the Indians and Chinese for cheap at the expense of poor non politician Zambian, poor government full of greedy politicians who keep on stealing from the poor, poor hospitals for the poor while they fly themselves to South Africa for better treatments. HATE THIS ZAMBIAN GOVERNMENT AND IT’S LEADERS.

  29. Can we have a list of the wrongs RB has done to warrant his Egypt style dismissal? Lets argue practically please. Maybe we need another website to compile to for and against points. Then we see whether people should start packing their bags.

  30. #5 MMD Chief Bootlicker
Educate the kaponyas.I guess they are being misled in International studies at the kulima tower school of business/Matero university..

  31. #29 thanks. #31 You are probably based in Lusaka with a good job (lucky you) or doing shady businesses (since you maybe well connected within the MMD kleptocracy) but I will tell you this for free. I have a reasonably good job (lucky me) somewhere in rural Zambia and I see how these so called investers have brought their old grandfathers to come and do jobs that our young people should be doing. Some of these guys are so old you wonder how they even pass medicals. I can assure you that if it was my or your grandfather at such ages, they would never get the jobs. Some of these guys are even senile. And your “caring” government says everything is fine. If our youngsters don’t get these jobs here at home where are they going to get jobs. A hungry man is an angry man. Remember this.

  32. I understand we are frustrated and angry at the government but, violence shouldn’t be the way forward there are better ways of resolving issues. Zambians we are peace loving people and let keep it that way. The only thing violence does is create more problems, it doesn’t solve anything at all. We have a choice whether or not to do things in the right way with diplomatic sense (which means of course not being treated like fools/ taken granted but decide how we are going to be treated, I believe no one can decide how we should be treated unless we allow it) or destroy everything we have and start all over again, I think we the young generation have a the power to change things and make better choices.
We are Zambians so let’s do it the Zambian way and not how other countries are doing it. W

  33. Mr. President, there are many things that cause a child to become wayward. That child may come from a very rich family, but it may turn to pick pocketing or shop lifting because the parents may not have given that child the affection it needs. Your ministers may be pointing to structures coming up in Lusaka as sign that people are happy. Most of those people(2%of the Zambian population) who are building and driving are using money ill gotten either by stealing from the government(Auditor Gen’s Reports) or by dealings. No minister will tell you the truth for fear of being Mulongoted. Please reexamine your dealings with one Fredrick Chiluba and you can comfortably be assured of my support.#31 Keep on living in a Don Quixote slumber.

  34. I understand we are frustrated and angry at the government but, violence shouldn’t be the way forward there are better ways of resolving issues. Zambians we are peace loving people and let keep it that way. The only thing violence does is create more problems, it doesn’t solve anything at all. We are Zambians so let’s do it the Zambian way and not how other countries are doing it…

  35. Most African leaders are now scared no wonder RB everyday has to talk about Arab happenings. MMD with its dribbling tactics must be very careful this time around and transparency must be seen otherwise it is not only the ballot box a final solution to oust a govt winning through dubious means as said by chiluba the master dribbler. If he wants let us be tried and the consequence will be the same.

  36. #7 Ngombala Muahapi
come on now that’s childish ranting you can do better than that. what has happened to you today? Have you had breakfast?

  37. Whilst it is true that we have democracy in Zambia unlike the Arabic countries that have revolted, there are other reasons that can cause people to revolt ba RB. One thing that led people to revolt in Tunisia was mass corrutpion which we have in common pa zed. suppression of expression can also lead people to revolt so whilst you dismiss the Arab revolution on the fact that they are not democratic think also of the common things we have, that led to the uprisings. By the way any chance you can legalise fi porn?? You can win over a few votes, guaranteed.

  38. Dont cheat yourselves, this year if elections are rigged, egypt and tunisia then Libya are coming to Zambia. Just do the right thing…dont rig, let elections be free and fare guys, otherwise zambians will revolte. Be warned RB and the MMD thieves. You say Zambians are peaciful, this is what kaddhaf also said about Libyans, where is he? You should also protect zambians from these stupiidy chanese.

Dont take Zambians for fuuls, dont mock them , time of revolt is pending if you continue behaving stupiidly as you do. Nonsense.

  39. Let him steal our votes this year,he will call his fellow stuborn friend for an exist plan. If you think its all about democracy try Zambia.

  40. He must go now. Enough is enough with fake politics of corruption and using the word “DEMOCRACY” while 90% of the people live in poverty. Like # 44 states, Let him steal the votes, we will need to stone his fat a$$ to death so others who will come after him will learn a good free lesson.

  41. The Bible lays out a detailed scenario of the final climax for mankind on the Planet Earth. It also provides testable reference points to determine just where we are in that scenario.
We are being plunged into a period of time about which the Bible says more than it does about any other period in human history – including the time when Jesus walked the shores of the Sea of Galilee or climbed the mountains of Judea.

  42. People like @ #46 Google Phiri are the people who kill innocent people during an angry mob attack. Someone shouts ati “kawalala” and they are the first ones stoning people accused to death. They don’t even have evidence whether that person stole or not, they just kill ati “to teach others a lesson”. Such people are evil and are going straight to hell.

  43. The precedent has been set by our Arabic brothers. It will remain so for ever. People will not allow any useless president to dictate to them forgetting that they put him in power. This is the beginning. Just do ur part Mr RB. This wind is very close to ur country.

  44. You are wrong. Its corruption leading to high levels of poverty amongst the majority of citizens that is leading to such revolution. For example in Zambia, the current failure by government to implement windfall taxes simply because a few people in powere are oiled. The corrupt sale of ZATEL to Gaddafi’s son; the current dictatorial tendencies where RB sponsors cadres to declare him sole candidate before the convention and hand picking provincial chairpersons; rigging of elections, refusal to give power to people by decentralizing, the exeecutive consuming over 30% of the national budget!!!. These and other nauseating issues are the things that are common to both Zambia and the Arab countries now in turmoil.

  45. RB, you are wrong. Its corruption leading to high levels of poverty amongst the majority of citizens that is leading to such revolution. For example in Zambia, the current failure by government to implement windfall taxes simply because a few people in powere are oiled. The corrupt sale of ZAMTEL to Gaddafi’s son; the current dictatorial tendencies where RB sponsors cadres to declare him sole candidate before the convention and hand picking provincial chairpersons; rigging of elections, refusal to give power to people by decentralizing, the exeecutive consuming over 30% of the national budget!!!. These and other nauseating issues are the things that are common to both Zambia and the Arab countries now in turmoil.

  46. IN 1989 AFTER THE FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL AND THE FALL OF ROMANIA DR KAUNDA SAID ON TVZ LIVE, ” ZAMBIA HAS A PARTICIPATORY ONE PARTY STATE DEMOCRACY THEREFORE WHAT IS HAPPENING IN ROMANIA CANNOT HAPPEN TO US”. BY THE END OF 1990 HE REPEALED THE ONE PARTY STATE LAW AFTER WITNESSING SOME OF THE GREATEST OPPOSITION RALLIES SINCE 1963.

  47. # 17 the men who spend their time in chibuku tarvens have no choice but find ways of being occupied. most of us want to have the necessities that every working class has. there are underlying issues in these young men and women’s lives. ilitracy, luck of support networks for empowerment to mention a few these things leed to drugs and alcohol abuse hence poverty becomes part of life. we need a government that will be innovative. honestly i need to see a new face. MMD PF disaster to the nation

  48. These kawalas in MMD should know that if they still our vote this yer we ar going 2 kik there big vimala.Mr president my word of advise is that dont take the people of zed 4 granted.wat is hapend in tunisia and egypt we can also do that easily.we have a lot of youths who ar jobless and ar very angry with the way of our political system.we cannot eat democracy and do we call that democracy with one party ruling for 25 yrs.COMRADES lets this yr kik out this toothless bulldog out of power. And a warning 2 MMD please dont rig this yr 4 yo own benefit otherwise u will be sory rig or not yo time is up.bravooo # 15 we ar well prepared and know how we can do it

  49. Some Zambians are very undemocratic.RB is president till the day he is out.Democracy is about numbers,we need to support the one with a larger number than others. If you are not satisfied with RB,all you need to do is vote him out through the noble way – the ballot box.Dont just complain and don’t think of rioting. That is long gone! If you don’t like RBs leadership style, don’t think everyone does.Democracy is about give and take. Its not perfect like THEOCRACY!

  50. Dont take people for granted mr RB things are changing daily and people in Zambia are being oppressed with your poor UNIP leadership style and so anything is possible in this crazy world today. Even Gaddafi used to think the way you are thinking but a human being is a very unpredictable creature and cannot be trusted. Wind of change is coming in Zambia and you cannot stop it.

  51. CEEC – Such a nightmare

The Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission is a corporate body established under the CEE Act No.9 of 2006 to promote the economic empowerment of historically disadvantaged citizens, including the Youth, Women and the physically challenged. It was gratifying to learn of some good work with regard to the rural projects; as was alluded to by the Permanent Secretary, Western Province (ZNBC
19 hrs News, 22.02.2011). However, when it comes to Lusaka, the whole scenario seems upside down. A fully Zambian incorporated entity expressed their dismay to Zedleaks:
Upon visiting CEEC offices at the Lusaka Civic Centre in early 2010, the applicants were advised to prepare a business plan, indicating the nature of the project, amount of application and all the necessary…

  52. Bootlickers, docile by character peopple and people who continue abusing Zambians using the MESSAGE of ZAMBIA IS A PEACEFUL COUNTRY are the Devil’s agents who groom DICTATORS thru vote rigging and corruption and reviving corrupti0on by freeing the corrupt. YES any thing is possible, LET US NOT BE CONTENTED cheep propaganda.
SERIOUS ADVICE TO ZAMBIANS,DONT LET THE OLD GUARDS CONTINUE CHEATING US.THEY ARE THE ONES WHO WERE SUPPORTING THE GADAFFI FELLOW OLD GUARDS THAT IS WHY THEY ARE FAILING TO COME OUT AND CONDEMN HIM JUST LIKE THEY FAILED TO MUGABE WHEN HE BUTCHERED HIS OWN PEOPLE FOR HIS OWN POWER BCOZ THEY ARE FELLOW OLDs

  53. I’m getting more and more disappointed with childish comments and level of analysis that is slowly creeping onto Lusaka Times. There seems to be a certain measure of desperation among some people where they want to blame even their own stupidity on the President of Zambia. I personally don’t approve of most of RB’s policies, but to stand here today and say even if he wins we will revolt like they have done Libya is plain stupidity and an insult to the freedom fighters who fought so hard for peaceful Zambia. We don’t want childish excitemnent here, especially out of ignorance. If you drink your entire salary at Breakpoint Pub, don’t wake the following morning and take it out on RB – drinking your salary is your complete idiocy. Let’s be mature!

  54. what we need is a system that is even mor transparent than the wind itself if we are to overcome the libya scenario especialy wen pipo are making careless statements lyk thaty short ***** chiluba

  55. Zambians are not docile. They are patient. 1990 to me did not show the face of a population that is docile. It showed a fed up population. If it took the Arabs 30 plus years to begin flushing out their autocratic rulers it doesn’t mean we also have to wait 30 plus years to get fed up… Lets examine not only the so-called president but the way the SYSTEM has been running (an stumbling) over the years, particularly since we ushered in this so-called multiparty democracy. After that we will be going for kicking the leaders to work or kicking them off the dais…

  56. #62 the jackal says. My brother/sister it is the bringing out the TRUTH and TIMELY and PREVENTIVE ADVICE which led the EMOTIONAL agents of the Devil to crucify and kill JESUS for the sake of preserving SATAN THE LIAR their MASTER.LET FACTS BE TOLD FOR OUR LEADERS IN GOVERNMENT AND OPPOSITION TO PREACH NOT CORRUPTION,REGIONALISM,TRIBALISM,HATRED,VOTE RIGGING, BUT -ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION -THROUGH SOCIAL,ECONOMICAL AND GOOD GOVERNANCE PROGRAMME.

  57. The reason it cant happen is that though RB sucks a bit, the most popular opposition leader, Sata sucks even more. If Sata became president they would be total confusion leading to an increase in poverty levels.Sata is shutter island material.

  58. #51
VJ Rigger – Iam the light and you are the darkness- Why? You hide the truth so that you can keep your job in the MMD. Mathew 5 v 14 to 16 NO ONE LIGHTS THE LAMP AND PUT IT UNDER A TABLE. This is exactly what you do. You know very well that FTJ stole, but just because RB says other wise you say Chiluba is innocent. I put it to you yesterday the FTJ was not found innocent but was wrongly charged according to the so called Magistrate. That is why your RB fired all those who wanted to appeal.Yes you did it to KK,to FTJ to LPM and now you are doing it to the unsuspecting RB. You as a single MMD cadre are not the people of Zambia so you cannot predict what tommorow holds for this beautiful but raped country.Just do the right thing instead of telling lies to keep your MMD job.

  59. Whether Banda and his cronies see it or not, issues of democratization, run away corruption and human rights in Zambia are increasingly dominating the world’s interest in Africa, overcoming a legacy of indifference to the fate of democracy on the continent. Banda, the so called democratic leader, is openly subverting the people’s will and disregarding national constitutions as he continues in the bad ways of wild corruption and unaccountable leadership Zambians worked so hard to rid themselves off in 1991. The celebrations that heralded democratic change in the 1991 have gradually faded into muffled cries of despair. Increasingly, ordinary Zambians find themselves removed from the centres of power, marginalised and reduced to helpless onlookers as Banda and his goons in cabinet, their…

  60. friends and families enjoy power. The more Zambians talk about change the more things seem to get worse. We are taking calamitous steps back into the dark ages of misrule, lack of accountability, despondency and totalitarianism (sounds like Egypt eh!). Banda seems wholly oblivious to the fact that he is presiding over a whole country and communities and not just a few cronies and friends intent on eating off the state. Like Egypt or not, what happened there is coming Banda’s way, soon!

  61. Agrred Zambia is a ”peaceful” Country and we will want it to remain so but we can do better in terms of transparency and accountability!
Botswana is a good example of what democracy and accountability can do to a country…no wamuyaya at all cost mentality!

  62. ZAMBIA IS NO EXCEPTION DEAR PRESIDENT
It is not just democracy that they want or we want
People will not EAT democracy, will not Work Democracy they want CHANGE
    Change in Governance
Change in constitution in this case upholding Mungomba Const, Bill of Rights, Electrol reforms,
Change in casual type of Jobs to Decent Jobs ,
Change in the PYRAMID shape EQUITY– this must be upside down
Change in the POWERS— we want to separate these
Change in the politicians—we want FRESH BLOOD and not OLD RECYCLED POLITICIANS/DEAD WOOD
Change in social economic emancipation– we need to see real change in the townships.
    ABJECT POVERT, HIGH PRICES,CORRUPTION,TRIBALISM,MELITIA
All these plus many our coleagues above have said if not done could triger the revolution
IT IS A MATTER OF TIME!!!

  63. Zambians need to show their anger towards this old-tired-has-been -RB. Foreigners are always preferred to our own people and we are feed up!

  64. IF YOU CANT TRUST THE BALLOT BOX THAT IS AN ALTERNATIVE.
BE CAREFUL THE WAY YOU ARE HANDLING THE ECZ you will be burnt one day
it is a new movement of MAKING UNLISTENING GOVTS like Zambia to LISTEN.
    nO GARANTEES unfortunately——

  65. Zambia is miles ahead in democracy; when just need to grow it harness it, prune it and we will be there. Libyans have been oppressed for a long time; 40 years state of Emergencey is too long a period

  66. Zambia is miles ahead in democracy; we just need to grow it, harness it, prune it and we will be there. Libyans have been oppressed for a long time; 40 years state of Emergencey is too long a period

  67. Yes change cam to Zambia in 1991 one but majority of our people are still wallowing in abject poverty. What an I.D.O.I.T of a president, if people feel there’s a need to rise against this MMD Gov then it will happen. Do not take people for granted. What is happening in the Arab world may not be the case in Zambia but 20 years ago we were promised much more than what we’ve seen thus far.

  68. RB you are right……the only prob is that after ousting KK in 1991, VJ in collaboration with FTJ and some vilagers have picked on another UNIP product in the name of RB. you chaps are enjoying yourselves as the masses wallow in abject poverty – what a shame. WATCH-OUT MUDALA!!! you can fool some people but not all the people all the time

  69. Unlike Mubarak and Ben Ali, Col Gaddaffi has refused to bow down to pressure from diplomatics to resign because of riots. Its Ok for people to have the right to protest, but when they begin to destroy public property, no government on earth, including western democracies can allow this kind of behaviour. Violent overthrow of any government is not democracy at all. Col Gaddaffi has promised a fight before he goes down. Samething with Zimbabawe, where western governments have imposed sanctions merely to incite masses against a sitting government. This is not right.

  70. @77
Anecho- Even Zambia is still under a state of emergency-you cannot gather with others unless you get a permit(Public Order Act)from ZP who must also get permission from MMD to issue you this permit.

  71. Guys just campaign hard and vote to oust RB – in Libya/Egypt/Tunisia this was not possible. Especially for you who want your Sata to go to plot one – you need to change from your tactics not amano yabukaponya! Rallies attendance alone will not bring the votes, go door to door and also whether you like it or not kubosha does bring results in the Zambian setting. Hehehehe!!!!!!!

  72. Wel-Mr. President I don`t get your point. How can you say that you`re very sad for what is happening there and the same time finding Zambia not to be connected to the issue because Zambia has already past that stage of change? To be sad for change? And Zambia can`t be like egypt? what a shot sighted president! Those countries are even more developed than Zambia; what can stop zambia from doing that? I believe Zambians are not looking for democracy, they are looking for development that is why the change zambians are crying for is the party in power to get out. How can Zambians cry for the current two years old leader to be kicked out ? Is because you inherited a crocked party of thieves, corruption, hunger, unemployment ,oppression, etc, that is the reason Bwana Banda. THINK BEFORE YOU TALK ..

  73. I wonder why these ARABs are demonstrating when their economies are far much better than the hell we live in. I mean just look at their hospitals, just look at them even as they demonstrate, they look well fed.
    Maybe we should exchange.
All Zambians must join Katongo in Libya under Qaddafi and all the Libyans must come here under RB.
    Mr. Capitalist, whats your take?
I would gladly go to Libya and use my excellent IT skills in the oil industry!!
To ARABS i say umwana ushenda ataxia nyina. Come to Zambia and see democracy at “ITS BEST”

The only reason why it cant happen in Zambia is because the Zambian people are docile.

YES INDEED..DOCILITY especially among the POOR…DOCILITY..
I am lucky that i am not POOR and not DOCILE

  75. But i like most ZAMBIANS am a COWARD!! Whenever i see a gun, i shiver and shit in my pants..i would rather continue being a coward than face those paras..after all, why should i go in the streets and fight for paras when i am far much better than them..they should fight for themselves….to all Zambians please lets continue with MMD, dont worry, thats how life is…it can never get better than this..NOT SO
    1.MR CAPITALIST

    4.VJ RIGGER and…….ALL

  76. No.3. Lack of basic neccessities should not force people in Zambia to bring down an elected government. You guys need to use the right powers to get rid of the governments and this is only done by elections. You must be an Arab. Zambia is different from Libya and only fools will go to the streets and start demonstrating.

  77. ARISE ZAMBIANS CHECK OUT A FACEBOOK PAGE COMING UP SOON. REVOLUTION IS COMING TO ZAMBIA BEFORE DECEMBER. ARISE PEOPLE (every one say ARISE).. ARISE PEOPLE! ARISE YOUTHS! ARISE ALL ZAMBIANS! WE WANT JOBS FOR ZAMBIANS; WE WANT CHANGE! ARIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISE ZAMBIANS ARISE!

  78. Webo, Anne, just campaign for whoever you want to promote – then we will evaluate and vote. In Libya, it is not possible.

  79. Zambians are cowards, stupid and dull….! ARISE…ARISE….IDOITS……or remain docile and continue living in poverty. We simply good at passing on the poverty to our children? Luwana is booming….has our lives changed….no? whose lives has changed…..politicians……..or are you too dull to notice? ARISE you *****s or die in your self imposed poverty…? we Zambia are living misery as we have accepted, and are content with the way our resources are utilized. remember…we all zambians and entitled to copper? docile chaps

  80. just because their ka corrupted priest Frank bwalya failed to get their sata to state hse, they are complainin. Peace loving Zambians have no time to waist with tuma red cards while others are reaping the rewards of a constitutionally astute and prudently run GRZ under RB, were results are there for all to see in the form of non-stop construction, some of the highest middle class growths, unmatched growth in the number of pipo in work, praises from all renowned economists around the world regarding good fiscal polices and economic growth. Even HH said, dont jump from the frying pan into the fire with a GRZ change.
There is only one vote, only one RB

  81. We need to pray fro peace that when the people vote for their choise, it should be respected by the ruling than what they are trying to kill people indirect. No, Zambia is a nation of blessing, not violet. No slaverly indirect. People need a govt which will help them not to feed them.

  82. You can’t compare the Euphoria in the Arab World to Zambia. It is very insane

    1. Bahrain has been ruled by the same fake Royal Family for more that 200 years
    2. Hosni Mubarak was in power for 31 years and crashed down all his opponents
    3. Yemen is ruled by the minority tribe for s
    4. Gaddafi has been in power for 41 years
    5. Libya is the only country in the world that has NO Constitution.
    6. Even a failed state like North Korea has a Constitution
    7. Women are Second Class Citizens in Arab Countires
    8. Zambia enjoys Freedom of Speech
    9. The Post could not have survived in these countries
10.Since 1991, Zambia has excised democratic elections.
11.We stopped Chiluba & Sata going for Third Term

For those that are advocating an up-rise, just go the use the Ballot Box

  83. Cont.. from 97#

We gotten used to wanting handouts all the time from GRZ. Here is a man like Mbita Chitala with a PHD and is crying like a baby.

Why can’t he use his acquired KNOWLEDGE to make a living? Does he not know that KNOWLEDGE is POWER?

Having an Education not always about find a job in life. It is how you use that knowledge to create a living by being innovative, pioneering and inventive.

If the Western World were not inventive & pioneering, it would not be where it is today.

We have Natural Resources and plenty of Commodities, yet we keep crying, weeping and finger pointing all the time. The most people that complain are those that have not attempted to make a difference in life. In nutshell, they are Lazy, Idle and Sluggish.

  84. Iam in North Africa, on the borders with the current wind of Change in Africa and the middle east, to tell you the truth Ladies and Gentlemen, even those who love RBB, here according to what is on the ground, this wind of change is unstoppable, do not even waist your time with your petty Political Analysis, it is coming across Africa not only in Zambia, change is on the way, wether RBB, HH, or Sata likes it not, it is coming. Prepare yourself for safety. It is a wind like an earthquarth.

  85. @97 and 98
What you have alluded to is all fine but when it comes to citizen empowerment and fighting for what is rightfully ours individually or in terms of communities we have nothing to be proud of. If you compare the availabity of resources for self empowerment in Zed with countries like kenya You will feel betrayed.
There are no youth programs in the country that can ensure that those completing Uni have internship jobs for at least a year to help them kick start their lives
The bacis social services can only be found in places where the money is. Eg street lighting
There is no diversity in civil education of the rural population on their rights to the country wealth.
The freedom of speech you talk of is heavily sensored to to suit the powers that be.
More pipo live on less $2

  86. Are all you Zambians commending RB asleep, look at the state of the country? To see a thug like RB and his useless sons helping themselves to millions while his people suffer and you all thin that is OK… it seem some of you are really asleep.

  87. RB better start running if he really knows what is good for him because he will be tried for theft of public funds just like his friend Chiluba… the problem here RB, is that Sata or whoever becomes the next president will not shield you from prison.

  88. Editor, I think you must start filtering this blog as when people write trash as above it must be immediately deleted! This is absolutely nonsense! I am immediately raising a complaint on his profile!

  89. Looks like RB is scared. The train is coming down to Southern Africa you are next. If you are really doing what you are supposed to why get scared. Zambians please enough with this docile mentality, raise up, we deserve better leadership.

  90. Role model when you cannot harness the tenats of true democracy. You’re a tribalist and advocate preference. You believe in violence as can be seen by your party cadres. You have tolerated corruption and played in the hand of the Judiciary.

We uphold gallant men and women for the spirit of revolt against difunctional govts

  91. 103# On looker

It was always Sata’s motive to shield Chiluba. The only reason Sata is barking about Chiluba is because FTJ has crossed to Banda’s camp. If anything changed and Chiluba said that I now support Sata, the Cobra will change his stance again.
If anyone has evidence that RB’s sons stole money, please take the evidence to The Post, they would welcome you will Gold Hands. We have become tabloid minds.
So let’s not cheat ourselves that Sata will clean up Zambia. He is a corrupt finished article that changes his position depending on the clothes he wears.

  92. I hope President Banda can have access to this online debate of us young Zambians. Presiddent Banda your professed sturborness and disrespect for us Zambians will make us to do even more than what the Egyptians and the Libyans are doing.

You have have never listened to Zambians on anything. You are using the ACC, DEC and the Police against opposition leaders.

You have directed the ACC, DEC and Director of Prosecutioon to prosecute opposition Councils and leaving your MMD untouched like Kafue.

You are makingt the constitution according to the MMD and not according to Zambians.

This is unfair, very very unfair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are you expecting from us the youth Zambians? Keep quiet?

  93. Go back to the farm in Chipata Mr.President, Zambiayouths wants a Prtesident who understands their problem according to our generation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  94. Egypt:(( Zambia will starttocry the same way. RB has stolle from the Zambian people and his sons from used shoes business to brokers for Zamtel and fertilizer deals with the govt. Please we are calling for removal of all thieving parties, Kafupi stole and he is a saint in the eyes of RB. Mwaaga justified his position, leave the politics to young one with better brains, RB u are too old and we will use rev. ideas if we have to,we tired of ur manners,we are ot fools u are still UNIP to us, go rest just like super K.

  95. Funny isnt it? A few weeks ago RB had visited Egypt and Lybya. He praised the two countries’ leaders for the advancements their countries had made through the pairs hard work. He noted how happy the citizens of the country were. He further said Zambia would learn from these two countries on how to enhance both development and democracy. Now I wonder what we are going to learn from Libya and Egypt apart from demonstrations and mass killings of their nationals

  96. 78 Barotse Loyalist

I am of the opinion that you are abusing the term Barotse because you have insulting language which does not conform to the Barotse Culture. I would have loved you asked H.E what democracy means pa Zed when his citizens are in prisons after being denied the freedom to express their views. Maybe democracy pa Zed has changed meaning. If so, govnt needed to educate its citizens regarding the new meaning. Anyway, I just wanted to remind you that its bad manners to insult leaders my dear.

  97. ” I think that all the governments must listen to people” Is he serious? There is no way this joker and his dweebs can stay in government after the elections; NO WAY!

  98. RB is without a doubt mad or terribly suffering from dementia. Democracy? after you fire Mulongoti for actually practising democracy! Mudala, there are no words in the English dictionary to describe my disgust at your mediocre and deceitful speech. Democracy? when you revoke a parliamentary seat from a Member of Parliament? Mudala you need to go back to school and read even just basic social studies. An MP is elected by the people, you have no ****ing right to revoke a seat which you did not award him. You may exclude him from your shit party, but you have no legal right to ‘revoke’ his parliamentary seat, he remains an MP until such he loses at the ballot box. This is the very reason that after Gaddafi you are next, and your best friend in neighbouring Zimbabwe. Ivory Coast…?
