Some sex workers in Lusaka are calling on relevant authorities to help stop police harassment. In an interview with MUVI TV News, the sex workers have accused the police of harassing them by arresting and charging them.
They have further claimed that the police behavior borders on violation of human rights.
And when contacted for a comment, Police Service spokesperson, Ndandula Siamana said any immoral act is against the Zambian laws.
Ms. Siamana explained that the police will not allow lawlessness in the country to be the order of the day.
[MUVI TV]
Yes they are within their rights to complain.High time these helpers were helped with better a working environment.Amsterdam and Madrid has done a good job in this line.
Selling sex is the same as selling drugs. Both are criminals and deserve to be punished period.
#1, am sure you know that this is Zambia and not amsterdam. This trade is immoral even in Amsterdam. The authorities are battling with a lot of poor decisions they have made for their people. So let’s preserve what we have and not rush to low life of Amsterdam.
#3 Easy naiwe.Let us give respect and recognition to these pipo by providing them with better places to operate from.It is the oldest proffesion by the way.lol
Ifya muma tako better not even comment on them.
Ma bloggers try to comment intelligently. For the most your comments lack substance. Why would you compare Zambia to Amsterdam? It is the very profession that you are advocating for which has put public policy in Netherlands in jeopardy. We already have too many bad policies and actions which were passed for political expedience and now we are regretting. The sale of council houses, dismantling of core and non-core assets of ZCCM, privatisation, etc are among the blunders which we have made in the past. Now you want to add prostitution to the list of policy failure? Re-think folks.
Cage the flesh traders.Zambia should not be in the forefront fulfilling sodom/Gomorah prophesy.
Zambia is NO place for prostitutes. They are peddlers of diseases. Nab and cage them. they are lower than PIGS and DOGS!!!!
Mohamed Bouazizi, a Tunisian street vendor set himself on fire in protest of the confiscation of his wares and the harassment and humiliation that was inflicted on him by a municipal official. We all know what this led to. One of these day a prostitute in Zambia is going to set herself on fire and then……..
If you want to solve problems of prostitutes give them options, not the Tasinta type of options. Create real jobs. As for us men who go after these prostitutes, we’re accomplices and should not throw stones at these God’s children.
Like all things “unpleasant” let us first acknowledge that it (prostitution) is alive and well and the more you fight it the more attractive it will get. I think we need to look at how these people can be protected because despite what we refer to as “immoral” they are still plying their trade. In fact, some lawmakers even make use of their services. Just wait until we start providing you with footage (some years back there was some camera captures of these pretenders shouting condemnation during the day and soliciting in the night). Lets look at this matter realistically without even comparing it to Amsterdam, Berlin, or Madrid…
Most of `you Guys pick this girls on the street or bars, and by the way prostitution is not just sleeping with a bitch from the street even sleeping with what you call girlfriend (if you are not married to her) is also prostitution, so be carefull when commenting on this issue.
#9 The Neo Patriot
Let your bi.tches set themselves ablaze. No one cares, they will just be solving our problem by reducing their numbers through fire burns.
I have declared interest. I have slept with some of these people that SALE SEXUAL SERVICES BEFORE, wow, they offer a good service. Lets not pretend here. Whether illegal or what it shall still be there. After all, by legalising, we shall be earning revenue from it, we shall be able to come up with interventions that can even help deal with HIV/AIDS among others. Even some of you trying to be holier than thou know it. You indulge and why pretend. Lets be real and only then shall we deal with some of these issues. Probably, the argument should be that we are not yet ready but we shall soon be ready to legalise it. Remember that societies evolve over time.
Sex for sale is done two ways: 1 By those who come out in the open and sell. 2 By girlfriends who pretend that they love you but demand gifts before offering the sex. Both are prostitutes. The first lot have decided to be brave enough to come out in the open. The second lot are more dangerous because they are busy wearing sheep’s skin while they are wolfwomen.
Most of those people are on the street not because they like what they do but because of the economic situation of the country,if there was a deliberate policy to educate and empower the people of Zambia then we would just see a few of them that have been possessed by the devil on the street. Dont be fooled that they give u good sex #13 its all in your small mind, they fake orgasim and you buy it together with an incurrable disease.
i think that people should know that the permissiveness and immorality in these western countries is what is at the root of their social illness, and they are massive, believe me. but you know what?, they have the money for all sots of programmes to keep the lid on things. in zambia, with our meagre resources, where are you even going to begin when the downward spiral starts? because this is a sure slippery slope.
We don’t need sex works! please these are the people who don’t add any thing to our life.. so what is a sex work for? if you help them in that line, then you are just saying it’s okay to kill because sex works do kill in so many ways!!! so buuull shi****t!!! in short NO!!! keep arresting them…
Most of the bloggers are men here who just want to hide behind moralistic statements. Women sale sex, men buy sex. It is a commercial transaction. Where there is DEMAND (mostly by men in this case) there is SUPPLY (by women in this case). If you can protect the mines who are stealing money through bad laws of our land why cant you protect women. Men have taken advantage to abuse women because there is no law protecting women.
And can someone tell me what is wrong with having sex between two adults who are consenting to it freely with the terms that they agree? The only wrong thing is when most of you men agree to pay for sex then you dont and beat up women. The WRONG is when a police officer arrests a sex worker and rapes her! The wrong is when you judge without reason! PROTECT ALL!!
I challenge all of you pretenders, who has never picked a prostitute before???? Who has not slept with a woman who is not legally married to him???? Those married, where you both Virgins on your wedding day??? You all dont have assess **** dont trush the v** that crave to have away from your boring wives asses. We offer a service people buy why not condemn the buyers also.Do you really think their would be sex workers if people were not buying sex.
Im selling a personal service on mutual consent with my clients on price, how to do it, where , how many times and up to what time, so whats your case. You Zambians are all pretenders, Mopani evades tax with the help of Zambian employees and auditors with easy but we want to crucify us for sex which every one has had illegally
# 13,
I agree with you to some extent. But I am not talking about faking orgasm per say. My mind may be small but I am being real here. We all condemn these things but honestly we do these things most of the times. Bad as it may be. Have you not wondered when you look at the ZSBS 2009 that people like you and me, with cash, are the ones that are diying more from HIV. Thats immorality at its best. Which is bad of course. But its still with us. Should we continue living in denial or should we acknowledge that it is a problem and we need to deal with it now? I dont know, I need to be educated on this one coz I admit that it is a very big problem indeed and solutions need to be sought now than later.
#13 so if arrested do you and her plead before the judge like Clinton did? “I did not tell her to lie in the deposition,i told her to lie in that position”
#13 If i was you-if the left leg was xmas and the right leg was newyear’s day,i wouldn’t come between those holidays. It is baaad.
ninshi ifi fine fibantu ne nsoni shalipwa? Filecita ifyabupuba elo filefwaya na recognition. But zoona icalo nacipwa, there could be no clearer evidence than the happenings of today!
Radicalism is all we need treat it with kid gloves then we will all go, its not about who has done it before or demand and supply but the final consequence, anyway we are all destined to die.
My estimation is that less 1% of men in Zambia are morally upright and stick to one wife for life and the rest have at one stage slept with a prostitute or frequently make use of their services. It’s the hypocrisy that I find so astounding.
Close bars at 22hrs and drinking must be restricted from 17hrs then Zambians will become more productive. You will be shocked that as early as 6hrs Zambians are drinking alcohol. Also restrict selling of beer from tutembas eg tutilijili.
All you holier than thou chaps — can you solemnly swear that you have never touched, fantasized about having sex with, or actually had sex with a sex worker (prostitute)? If your answer to all the three is NEVER, you are lying through your teeth. Give the sex workers their rights. They are human beings. YOU are the animals who don’t deserve human rights for being cruel to other humans!
If nobody wants to sell sex, it is a crime to force anyone to do so. But when men or women do want to sell their bodies, they should have that full right without encountering punishment or discrimination. If the client behaves decently, the relationship between the sex buyer and the sex seller must be considered a purely private transaction.
What is marriage but prostitution to one man instead of many?
So many bloggers here are denying the fact that they have slept with at least one prostitute in their life time…check how Lusaka men flock to places like break point, Tall trees, Mayela, Ndeke Hotel, and a lot of other dirty bars and tarvens in the compounds. They call the prostitutes ati Better TV in relation to theZNBC motto, because they treat them better than their wives or girl friends, they don’t nag. All said, I still feel they should be hanged, including the professional ones who hang around in hotels, lodges and workplaces
these are serial killers…no human rights for them..!
Do the police have evidence that they practice prostitution when arresting them?If so, are the men also caught? If not then they must be practising it with the same police officers. Its its only a thief that can catch a fellow thief.
The need for prostitution arises from the fact that many men are either unmarried or away from their wives on journeys, that such men are not content to remain continent, and that in a conventionally virtuous community they do not find respectable women. Instead of beating prostitutes, the police should arrest immoral men and expose them.
one of the best way to stop this is by arresting those who are buying sex.just like they arrest under age people who are found drinking beer.the people who buy sex are the ones who promoting this behaviour.Arrest these buys and see where they are are going to sell their services from. The really killers are those who have the virus and buy the sex.If sex workers kill why do you have to go and buy.You buy coz u ve something in common with them.Killers=killers.Addicts=Addicts.
LESA TWAFWENI .PLIZ THRE ARE BETTER WAYS OF DOING BUSINESS NOT SEX IS SHOULD JUST BE AMONG THOSE WHO ARE MARRIED .DO BE WICKED.POLICE ARREST THEM.

hahhaa ati one is going to set herself on fire. where? in zambia? hahaha people love life ku zambia. see we dont believe very much in being matyrs. thats why terrorists would have so much trouble recruiting suicide bombers..
Let their business be suspended, after all they don’t even pay tax. All the monies they make are tax free.
why do not you publish my blogs. you are so biased.yet some people’s blogs are repeated.
Just weed and prostitution should seriously be legalized. Some scrupulous people gain a lot from these things being illegal e.g cops, politicians, rich people, businessmen, etc
While, this issue is still clear,it cant help by recognition! Prostitution is already recognized as a bad thing.Lets help people understand that, its sin.Whether all are sinners its still sin and need not be entertained.
Just thank sex workers for job well done. Honestly the cases of defilement have reduced drastically owing to these pipo. Legalisng them is the best way of saying thanks to them. Infact we need a sex workers desk at state house and a minister to be in charge be appointed immediately. Many cases that bring about HIV AIDS are long relationships. You can only be careful at the start but as time goes by, the be a day you be in Mazabuka where there are no condoms, so you end up going live. Hey problems start.
For sex workers, a menu is always provided for clients and at the fact that it is a prostitute, both parties are careful.
LT, by the way, what happened to the couple ‘stuck in the act’ in Monze that you reported about last week?
#14 spot on! These respectable women such as working class, born again christians, busines women we get 4 girlfriends, to ve sex with them demand a lot of material things eg rentals, utility bills, toktym, cash 4 food. Its opportunity costin 4 them thats they dont go open. I rather ve sex with a sex worker than these so called g/friend coz she ll neva demand that i chase my wife at home. Sex workers neva grab marriages.
THE LAWS ARE ENACTED TO FOSTER ORDERLINESS IN SOCIETY AND CHANGE WITH TIME. tHE QUESTION HERE IS NOT WHETHER YOU HAVE ACCESSED THESE SERVICES OR NOT. iT’S ABOUT OFFERING ALTERNATIVES.
#42 Kanama. That couple was finally separated by the legal husband. What happened is that the husband to that woman was out of the country, he is a truck driver so, that ‘couple’ decided to do it at one of the places within Monze. I understanding they were inseparable for over 24 hrs. So when the husband came he was briefed and all he did was to get a special stick whipped both of them, and immediately the 2 went separate ways. Not sure what has followed.
There is still a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Zambia that still needs curbing, and legalizing prostitution is not going to help any of us or our future generations. I say congratulations to the police and please carry on helping our citizenry to avoid this vice. Furthermore, I hope they can also curb the number of bars as well as these monkey tujilijili that are getting our people blazed beyond the point of control. In this way, maybe they can channel some of their moneys elsewhere including to buying food at home or at the least spending time with their families at home. As we know, alcohol takes away the understanding of the mind as well as your money… Debauchery thereafter takes over (illecit sex, AIDS, fighting) things that can honestly be avoided.
This does not even even call for a debate, its waste of time. we dont encourage prostitution in zambia. let us discuss and think of other progressive things that will see or beloveved zambia grow spiritually, morally economically, etc. Theres no place for that stop aguing about it.
# 1 Should we just accept whatever is done Amsterdam and Madrid? Muppet!
Zedians amaze me.No wonder you are the same type to call yourselves a christian nation but steal in the night (embrace the devil).Be real ,as long as there are pipo craving for these things then the prostitutes should be there to render the service.Let us indeed go Asterdams way just as # 1 suggested. No need to burry our heads in the sand. You may not like it but yo father, brother, unty, cousin or husband like it.
who will feed me and my family if i close my legs to those thirsty men. prostitution is demand driven and we demand that we are recognised because we help our menfolk in stress relief, drive bar sales up, muchopo/cigarrtess sales up etc. and thus contribute to the well being of society. did you know that there is high prevalence of sexually trans diseases in the areas neighbourhoods among ‘morally upright’ than in prostitution with clients coz we demand for protection
You know ma fellow people let us not abandon these people. Indeed they help us when in need. I ve lost so many marraiges through the so called girl friends, its now that i have realized that a pick nd pay is better.
Let us not pretend we go on trips and we cant keep on taking our gal friends always, we need to find these people whereever we go. please ba gov. do something to help them
If KABUDULA BAMBA may comment now ……mmmmmmmm

number 45, yaba, thanks for the information. Have a good day.
This is a free world, especially where democracy prevails. Why do some of you want to infringe on the rights of others. These girls simply wished to demonstrate so that their rights are upheld. They actually have a lot of clients. Over three quarters of men have had a stint with prostitutes before, especially the loudest bloggers just here. Some of you even have live sex with these same prostitutes against their wishes and today you want to educate us about molarity…Sha!! Come on, do not pretend. I leave around Rhodespark and i have seen respectable men pick up prostitutes using cars with tinted windows in roads such as Joseph Mwilwa Road, and today you want to be a ‘holier than thou’. Let them demonstrate to exercise their rights. Every person deserves freedom of association and assembly
this guy went and intervud his ule and write the article that sex workers
However, much as I have tried to look at this issue from a human rights perspective, i also want to send a stern warning to all men that three quarters of prostitutes are HIV+ and condoms are not 100 Percent safe. Just think of this : even a 1% risk is huge in terms of transmission of HIV. Therefore, please let us stay away from prostitutes. The key is men staying away and eventually this problem will be resolved. But as long as we men flock to prostitutes, then we have to respect their fundamental rights as fellow human beings. In fact, the police should be arresting both the prostitute and client rather than being biased as is the present case. The government should promote initiatives such as Tasinta etc to rehabilitate sex workers and offer them alternatives. Let us all do VCT too.
Parliament inact laws and such laws are in place e.g in the Penal code chapter xv section 146 states
persons living on earnings of prostitution or persistently solicit or importunes for immoral purposes
commits a felony and is liable upon conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding fifteen years.
Recall ingnorance has no defence,so the Police are just enforcing the law.If you need to read this law
google parliament dot gov dot zm
Should things be legalized simply because there is demand and supply for them? So if there demand and supply for drugs then drugs should be legalized? If there are under age girls wanting to sleep with oder men, should defilement be legalized?
Let us not leave in denial but rather should accept that prostitution is impossible to eliminate. it has been around for centuries. So instead of just blaming prostitutes, us men should also take the blame for propelling this profession to greater heights. So the police should not just be targeting prostitutes but even clients.
The problem is not just with sex workers, but demand, in terms of us men going after them.. On whether or not to legalise prostitution, the bottom line is that these people have certain fundamental rights as other human beings, which should be respected. But we have to be mindful that prostitutes are a high risk group and that condoms are not 100 per cent safe. If as men we stayed away from prostitutes, this problem would be eradicated.
Interesting, this is what wesley ngwenya was talking about in his book. Remember that he was addressing some of this concerns that these women are raising. Where is wesley by the way. VIVA prostitute rights!
Let them go to hell, what human rights
Elo it’s addictive ka, man, once you taste, you will surely shelf amake for awhile, plus she is already irritable.. and full of excuses….awe mwandi.
Even suzyo (#60) has tasted a prostitute before or had more than a single girlfriend or even some chick other than a wife. Please lets not live in denial about prostitution.
I’m not saying legalise it, but while all women need to be economically empowered those that are sex workers, should on the other hand be allowed to enjoy the same rights as anyone else such as protection from police harassment and sexual abuse.
Chamba boys and thieves should also be given. Country one
Hate it or Love it..Prostitution exists and its very real even in rich countries countries like Kuwait, Norway, Saudi Arabia etc.We are told that its the oldest profession in the world.
What causes Prostitution? That is a million dollar question. What is clear is that there is DEMAND for it especially from men.
I dont know of any male friend of mine (including married men) who has never had sex with a prostitute or a “girl friend” for that matter.
One friend of mine told me that sex with a prostitute has advantages:
1. Safer because you dont kiss and you use condoms(unless you are NUTS)..With a so called steady girl you throw away condoms
2. Its cheaper on average. Girl friends and Wives are expensive to maintain.
Well is this true, your guess is good as mine!!!
Prostitution is morally wrong just like stealing, killing, cheating etc.
The sad reality is that as long as man kind exists Prostitution will always be there..
We can debate for the next 1000000+ years but THE REALITY IS THAT PROSTITUTION WILL ALWAYS BE THEIR!! PERIOD..
Even some married women on this blog who are being emotional about it were not virgins when they first got married.
—————————————-
Remmember when Mrs Shakafuswa THREW A CHALLENGE TO WOMEN, ESPECIALLY NGO WOMEN to state whether they have had sex with only one man in their lives..ALL WAS QUIET!! Ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii LIKE STILL WATER IN AN UNDISTURBED POTHOLE…
SO PEOPLE BE REAL AND ACCEPT!!
elo fyali lowa!
hello, we don’t need these animals whatever you call them
Prostitution is illegal in Zambia, it follows therefore that those taking part in it will be treated like criminals when they are caught. Simple as that.
Let anyone who has never slept with a prostitute throw a stone. Let anyone who has slept with a man who has not slept with a prostitute throw a stone. If you live in a glass house dont throw stones. It is very dificult to distinguish betwen a prostitute and a straight women in Zambia at the moment considering the skin bleaches that the so called straight women do. They look like prostitues. Elo a banamayo nga bafwenkula mu ma church ni sotambe
Legalize prostitution period!
Prostitutes are not just women that stand in the night. Even women that expect financial favours after giving in to sex could essentially be termed as similar to prostitutes. Men who have sex with more than one women can also be equated to prostitutes. Everyone that has had sex before they got married and with more than one person can be termed in the same manner. Therefore, if we strictly cast the net wider, every one will be caught up. Therefore, instead of coming out as perfectionists who have never sinned, let us recognise that yes indeed conventional prostitution is a problem that will remain with us for as long as we leave. Those that are sex workers, should on the other hand be allowed to enjoy the same rights as anyone else.
ba guy dont pretend you are always pa yela, kwamukupa and breakpoint looking for these girls
tongas bulls in mazabuka dont ukwita inkoko or raping innocent children these chaps in the streets. are there for you hardcores.
I hammered one yesterday.
Sexy, hope u used a condom, while bearing in mind that condoms are not 100 per cent safe. The problem is that some of you chaps go in live on prostitutes after you get drunk and start wondering how you got the virus years later.
When it comes to sex issues zedians are so stiff about it its deeply rooted in their ‘primitive’ bantu mentality. Even the word sex itself was always censored not so long ago.. it’s been tolerated just about a few months ago on most Zedian websites.., belive it or not, many of our women including mothers, grannys even those that wear church uniforms and chitenges in Zed have prostituted themselves in order to send their children to school, feed their families, husbands and step children included!!!
Sex workers must be protected.. they are indeed even raped by the same police who arrest them for ‘street loitering’ as they put it. Sex tourists who come to the country are abusing our womens rights because they are vulnerable in their own country! Wake up Zambia!
Perfect post Kapenta Milomo (#77) unlike some of the people in denial on this blog
