Former Lands Deputy Minister, Sipula Kabanje has advised the MMD National Executive Committee (NEC) to be careful in choosing the successor  to the  late Zambian Republican President Dr. Levy Mwanawasa.
Dr. Kabanje  said  it would be a great loss to Dr. Mwanawasa’s contribution to the development of the country, if the ruling party failed to win the fourth coming Presidential bye-election.
Dr. Kabanje stated that Dr. Mwanawasa has left behind a legacy that will need his  successor to build on .
He said the party needs to choose a candidate that shared the vision of Dr. Mwanawasa, so as to enable the continuation of the promising development programmes of the country.
Dr. Kabanje told ZANIS in an interview  in Mongu that, the party should look for someone who is selfless and  focused on policies that include the crusade against corruption and the rule of law.
About  17 high profile Zambians have tendered in their applications for the Nations’ top-most job. The applicants include Acting President Rupiah Banda, Finance Minister Ng’andu Magande, Home Affairs Minister Ronnie Shikapwasha, Health Minister Brian Chituwo and Mr. Billy Phiri.
Others include Charles Ngesa, Former Vice Presidents Dr. Nevers Mumba and Enock Kavindele , Mr. Lawrence Mulenga, former Works and Supply Minister Ludwig Sondashi and Mr. Nason Musoni.
Dr. Kabanje  stated that the party should respect the attributes of President Mwanawasa who was  able to cast his net far and wide, in allocating duties to Zambians.
Dr. Kabanje who described Dr. Mwanawasa  as a  person  of integrity , empathy , dedicated  and obsessed with  work  said, the late President  would be missed by not only Zambia and Africa  but the world at large.
“Dr. Mwanawasa had empathy for mankind, he was one who would go an extra mile  in whatever he did,’ he added.
He said Zambians do not have to look elsewhere for a role model, as President Levy Mwanawasa is the most appropriate role model.
He said today the Zambian economy was doing better in comparison to the time when President Mwanawasa took over leadership.
He cited the liberalized operations in the banking sector, the strengthening of the local currency against major world currencies, improved road infrastructure and the agricultural sector, as some of the  areas that have tremendously improved in the economy.
For Western Province, Dr. Kabanje said the success of Dr. Mwanawasa can be measureed by projects that include  Shesheke Bridge and the Mongu – Kalabo road.
He said Dr. Mwanawasa‘s dream in the Province was to ensure that Western Province became a gateway  to Angola  and Namibia, connecting the rest of the neighboring countries, to make regional integration a reality.
“The President did not only want the restoration of the infrastructure, but to make the  Province vibrant,’ he added
And United Party for National Development (UPND) chairman for Livestock and Fisheries Captain Lawrence Nyambe said, President Mwanawasa  surprised  his critics over his ability to deliver.
He said the President tried under difficult circumstances to foster development in Western Province.
Captain Nyambe stated that more money was allocated for many development programmes in the Province.
He however expressed sadness on the hosting of the funeral procession at the President Guest House, which resulted in the stampede.
He said the organizers should have  taken the body to the Stadium,  to avoid the stampede  that ensued  on  last week, in which about 8  people sustained injuries were several others fainted.

Ala ba MMD tabomfwa.Lekeni ukukalifya itunwa
thanx. we have advised them the same as well but dont hear. they will know once they lost. now are also wrong MMD is not zambia and zambia is not MMd. we have great leaders outside MMD camp so dont even worry yourself. the next president will be voted by zambians throughout the country so thi leader will know what the voters expect from him.
zambians lets work together for the sake of our peace and fight for our children’ future.
Umuntu aliyafya; Tomfwa kabili takaleke ifya kwikata ikata.
Could we please fest shika then we talk legacies and succession ishuzi panuma!! Levy. RIP.
Does RB have an MMD card??? Please someone answer this??? Do you zambians need anyone’s legacy to check this. What does the MMD law say and how come some are not covered by this law??? Corruption is on your door step. WARNING, KEEP THAT DOOR SHUT!!!!
LPM WAS INDEED A GREAT LEADER MHSRIP. He has ably been described as ‘obsessed with work’. Zedans, work is work. we must also endevour to look after our health. Eat well, relax and take time off our heavy responsibilities (Stress free). That way, we will live longer. Work doen`t finish its there all the time. No wonder they say that work is so bad that one has to get paid to do it. If it was good, who would pay you????
mASEBO IS UP AND NOW SHE TALKING NONSE. I THINK SHE GOT CELEBRAL MALARIA FROM MAINA SKO. Dr CHITUWO HELP HER WITH CHECK UP I PROPOSE THAT EITHER GOVERNMENT OR FUNERAL CONTRIBUTION FROM BOZ FUND HER MEDICAL BILL FOR THE CHECK UP. SHE GOT THIS SICKNESS WHILE MOURNING. IYEEEEEEEEEEEEE. WISH HER QUICK RECOVERY.
MMD will remain MMD, full of entropy and corruption. Chiluba had to take someone from outside to take over as president, coz he knew who he was surrounded with. Mwanawasa also, knowing who he was surrounded with, had to take his vice from outside, first Nevers, and then RB.
Therefore, if MMD has to tick, a presidential candidate must be sought from outside, coz RB tho from outside is not presidential material.
If an MMD presidential candidate comes from the MMD old timers, and happens to win, we have sold the country and Zambia will be heading for liquidation.
The most dangerous thugs in Zambia are in MMD.
Th problem with Masebo is that she has been promised Veep when Magande wins then Maureen takes over after six months. then in 2011 Maureen then stands for presidency

Hey, though levy had his succesor in mind but does not limit the selection. Now maureen should not mis lead people and by the way why is she trying to emphasise that levy had a successor and she wants to play the tape so what?Levy is gone and let people decide, please mourn your husband well may HSRIP.Magande has been a let down because of his hardheartedness, people told him to reduce tax he never heeds to that and at one time he said”im not aware that there are zambians who are suffering”,now how do you bring such a person in power, who has no care about the poor. The secret is this, when magande wins probably he wont talk about abuse of funds by levy,he will keep the family tree by puttin
bsm9
by putting maureen as his vip and eventually maureen to lead after magande.Gentlemen we have to set labour laws correctly twacula pafula ba sata bese.Lets get into the boat and remove idleness.chez.
it is unfortunity that the so callled MMD are fighting over who will be nominated in MMD to stand for election yet the most important question should be, who is the leader with good conduct to rule our country? We need a leader with vision and someone who listens to the cry of the poor, not someone who will only sit in state house and do nothing. We need a leader who will look into the welfare of the people not only his or her pocket. let now the education system in Zambia is tremble, to make the matters worse if you go to UTH you will find it difficult to imagine that Zambia has leaders.
Does it means we shall always build our country on the late’s legacy for ever, whether bad or good.
Limo ndanaka. Levy ruled for 7 years, surely in that time we as Zambians couldnt see his next man in command. Our politics is so raw. Well i think the combination of Magande,Mutati and Fundanga has worked wonders for our economy, why dont we give them a chance. Its even hard to say let the best man win coz many a time its not the case in Zambia. Shame!!!!!!
Ala ifyamufwi fya mufwi – no matter who we vote for there never going another mwanawasa he is gone and gone with his calibes that he had, no body will have the same calibes that the later had, no matter how one will try, IT IS FINISH!
Every dog has its own day. MMD must go where UNIP is and we see how the boat will sail in three years time. Sata is the only man at the moment and HH may be in 2011 depending on the performance of PF. MMD has been in power for 17 years now so what can they do in this little time which they didn`t do all this time. MMD kuya bebele!!!
The most bizarre day dream .
Sata in Stae house.
Yayayayayayayah.
In the dream, you fail to take him out after being in power for 20years.You wakeup still in power, just imagine.

#16, luckily that dream will forever remain that, a dream. Its high time we stopped worshiping dinausors. Just becoz the guy once built a fly over bridge when he was still young, should we all be blind to his bad leadership qualities, dictatorial tendancies, rowdy behaviour, unforgivingness and thivery fingers? The guy cant even keep his party intact. At least levy even ‘annointed’ someone (or so we are made to believe by former first widow); manje ba Sata is is just annointing himself all the time. He cant differentiate democracy from a pair of shoes!! God spare us.
Bring RB and let see how he fare on the National polls. We want MMD out, sooner than later.
If MMD chose RB, let us try Sata for A Change. It can get any worse, as RB is just no match to Sata.
I am really getting sick ofh this Legacy thing. We are all heroworshiping Levy as if everything he did was great. We’ve turned him into a Saint.Check also the flip side of his reign. You’ll see Arrogant 1st Lady, unprecendented Nepotism, Selective fight aginst corruption, run down health sector, high prices of daily necessities and many more.Is this the LEGACY these people want to continue?
With all due respect to my late president, does it mean LPM was the only one with a vision in the whole MMD and indeed Zambia? I thought all party members especially cabinet and NEC members must understand a vision which is supposed to be propageted and accepted by them all? No wonder the MMD members are confused about the vision and who knows or shared it with LPM.
#20 For your own information, MMD and anyone who cares to look beyond his nose knows that MMD will scoop the election if they field RB. Why? Because they are depending on the rural vote and for rural dwellers RB represents Levy’s continuation. And these rural dwellers do not have access to the internet so they will never be swayed by your analysis of RB. Sata will maintain his stronghold in urban areas but just like in 2006, that will not be enough to catapult him to plot 1.
# 23 good analysis.
But who says RB is MMD? Have you forgotten how he joined MMD? Has so much time passed since LPM announced to the public that in recognition of the vote given to him amd MMD in the last tripatite election he was going to homour the people of eastern province by nominating RB and appointing him to the postion of veep? Come-on guyz, lets be realistic with life!Zambia is ours, let us not go with events blindly.
Mangande has no feelings for people. He went against the feelings of the electorate on the issue of cabinent salary increaments. What we work so had for (taxes)he consinders as nothing and is ready to throw away.He is the one who has betrayed LPM and not RB.
Sata is sick. Very sick and therefore can not be president. He will collapse during campaigns. And this time there will be no one to fly him to SA for a quick fix since his saviour Levy is dead
#21, I totally agree with you,am of the school of thought that believes the Family Tree have had their chance and its time for other people to take over. Change is good and I can see that change which change will only be tangible if we usher in a new Party come November. If Magande comes, the Family Tree continues, if RB comes, he is too soft and will still be manipulated by Maureen coz mark my word you will see how she’ll change camps as soon as she sees RB being nominated. I believe this is time for PF and I can even see a whole new Cabinet!
#28 correct………….
magande =family tree + 200% salary increments for cabinet etc.
RB=more corruption+ salry increments.he is too soft and thats why the crooks want him.
HH=less political experience bt cud be a gud economic manager.
sata=economic progress+some dictatorship+redemption for the plunderers
Kavindele=not bad but some of the crooks cud still ling to him n get positions.
sondashi=no chance.
chituwo=mayb n cud be tough on corruption but too stiff.
shikapwasha=mayb bt iyo,past not clean i hear.
kopulande,mungomba n crew=???????
make yo own judgements abena zambia.this is a very defining moment for us.coz we may jus see the worst 3 yrs if we dnt vote wisely.
i think abakamba ba SATA can make sense
RB managed to send his son Andrew banda into diplomatic service when he became VP. I wonder what qualities his son has compared to the career diplomats who are trained at NIPA, but are never sent into the diplomatic services. If this is not corruption, then tell me what it is!!!!Do we need him at plot 1? Nooooo!!!! Do we need MMD to continue with the Presidency? Noooooooo!!!! MMD zwa!
why us everyone critising Magande over the salary increments. What about the other ministers?
nikavotela bo SATA
4. law abiders
Sep 2nd, 2008 at 12:56 pm 0 0 Does RB have an MMD card??? Please someone answer this??? Do you zambians need anyone’s legacy to check this. What does the MMD law say and how come some are not covered by this law??? Corruption is on your door step. WARNING, KEEP THAT DOOR SHUT!!!!
Number 29 you have analysed well. So in order to get the country forward I think we need to get rid of corruption, family tree, dictatorship as well as plunderers should not ressurrect twapapata. Let us try economic recovery once more and avoid recycled politicians. The late Mwanawasa was being called names when assumed power but to the surprise of many he had done far much better than they expected regardless of some shortfalls as a human being – family tree
#32, Magande was seen on National TV justifying the increment saying i quote “What is K20 Billion?” This is a minister of Finance in a Country where three Quraters of the population lives on less than a doller a day! The man is insensitive to the plight of many Zambians.
The family tree issue leaves much to be desired. In our social and cultural aspect, we call it WAKO NI WAKA. This concept entails safequarding, protecting and enriching the ones that are close to you. To be precise, the concept in everyday life exists as NEPOTISM. That is exactly what was happening with LPM. He made sure that many of his bululus and inlaws atleast had a job both locally and abroad not on merit offcourse but by virtue of relationship. Zeds, this is not fair. I can guarantee that whatever the case, the family will continue feeding coz someone did his homework.
The legacy of neopotism is not something we should contine to embrace as Zed, just like other societal cancers in form of corruption and dictatorial behaviours. These vices have made Zambia the most expensive peaceful country in Southern Africa.
#29 Obama = No experience, Hilary = Alot of experience; nominee for the Dems = Obama, what matters is the team and what is this experience anyway? Experience to do what, how many people have the experience of being presidents, Mwanawasa himself used to run a small legal firm and was Veep for 3 years, that is all his CV had, and was MP for 5 years period, so what experience are we talking about?
#33 Yeah go ahead and waste your vote Sata! Only dont cry foul afterwards!
zambian politics sakas! I
Viva Sata
#39 thanx for yo analysis, well, mwanawasa’s CV is definately better than HH’s politically.Obama was a senator at least and has been part of important national legislations made in th US. At least if HH had been an MP previously or something like that, thats the political experience am talking about.Economically i have no doubt that he can manage the national resources wisely for sure. But indeed,he has been around now for over 2 years and so he has gained some experience for sure by being active politically.so like i said,we can jugde what suits us as zambians best. HH(minus tribalism) seems a good choice coz sata hasent had a clean past.recal the 3rd term?so lets open our eyes vote wisely
RUPIAH BANDA LOVES UNIP… HE’S IN MMD FOR THE MONEY!!!!!!!
Yes No.44, RB is in MMD for money and for convenience. But i think the country has been sold already, knowing that RB is wining the elections whether we like it or not.
Sata should have put someone else in his place, someone young and vibrant. Otherwise, i dont see him competing well with RB.
I agree with #9-i echo your sentiments.Maureen has an agenda with magande-shame on them. How can someone whose husband died 21 days ago be trotting the nation with her husband’s corpse.what type of strength does she have that allowed her to body view more than 10 times.Ephraim already sang that “tumushilefye umwine” let God intervene some people need to be put in there rightful places-as mourners at least for now , not campaining in the name of legacy.legacy my foot
Although we have less than five minutes before you leave for the airport, maybe we can briely talk about some politics? Where do you stand in terms of politics at the moment?
I am really a UNIPIST, what people call UNIPIST. So It’s very difficult for me perhaps at my age to join another political party. But let me say this that as of now, I am quite attracted to the leadership of President Mwanawasa for several reasons but most importantly his fight against corruption and his openness. his inclusiveness to other polilical parties and listening to other political parties. They may not feel that way but he does listen, we see it. Even people who are looking from a distance feel that he do
It dosnt really matter who rules as long as he is elected by Zambians and not anointed by the Post and Morleen Darlington
I still think Nevers Mumba is presidential material for Zambia. He has made some mistakes but has learnt from them and has passion for the nation.
Have a go at me but please think wisely
i thought rupiah was not Zambian???? someone please clarify
50. Zambian or not RB no chance
