Mporokoso loss is a temporal setback-MMD

MMD acting national secretary Chembe Nyangu

The ruling MMD has said  the Mporokoso by-election loss to the Patriotic Front-PF is a temporal setback.

MMD Acting National Secretary has said the ruling party is optimistic that it will re-claim the seat in the forthcoming general elections.

Mr. Nyangu told ZNBC by telephone from Mporokoso that the MMD will work hard to re-gain the seat from the opposition.

And PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba has thanked the electorate for giving his party victory in the just ended by-election.

Meanwhile, UNIP Secretary General Jemina Banda has congratulated PF candidate Maynard Misapa on his victory in the by-election.

Ms. Banda said the former ruling party is not hurt by the loss because it is re-establishing itself and gaining ground in Northern Province.

And NAREP President Elias Chipimo Junior has pledged that his party will remain focused on its ideal of strengthening its members on the ground.

PF Candidate Maynard Misapa retained the seat he held under the MMD with 2,844 votes. He was followed by the MMD candidate Dominic Musonda who polled 2,217 votes.

Returning Officer Felix Kaluba declared Mr Misapa as the duly elected M.P Friday morning at about 09:05 Hours at Bulangililo community hall.

National Restoration Party-NAREP female candidate joyce mukando trailed third with 435 votes.

Anthony Konde of United National Independence Party-UNIP candidate came fourth and only managed 71 votes.

The Mporokoso seat fell vacant after Mr Misapa resigned from the MMD following his dismissal by president Rupiah Banda as sports Deputy Minister.

And Vice President George Kunda has said that the future of the MMD is still bright compared to the opposition political parties.

Mr. KUNDA also said opposition political parties should have confidence in the Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ and accept when they lose elections.

He said that despite the loss in Mporokoso, MMD is still better placed to win the 2011 elections.

The Vice president said because of the wrangles in the PACT, some members of the UPND are expected to turn their back on the PF leaving the MMD with an easy battle to win the general elections.

Mr. Kunda was speaking in parliament Friday morning during the Vice President’s question time.

He said the MMD is the only party that participates in all by-elections and that its average performance is very impressive than other political parties.

  3. Just concede defeat.What temporal setback are you talking about. The entire state machinery was in Mporokoso, not to mention the colossal sums of money and gifts flying around. Even the entire chief Mupolokoso pledged total support to the MMD. By the way, you said the same after the Mufumbwe loss but you proceeded to petition the election. Better luck next time. Your wish to reclaim the seat during the tripartite election is however not guaranteed as the entire state machinery will not converge in Mporokoso.One more thing, you see how peaceful elections could be without William Tekere Banda…

    1 windfall tax:This is the party that has allowed day light robbery of our resources by these so called investors.
    2 unemployment:MMD has no vision appertaining employment.The little employment that was there has been taken over by foreignors.
    3 corruption:This is the party that has allowed corruption and corrupt elements to flourish within its ranks
    4.education system:the party has no time to think about better education for all.Children’s ministers do attend better education than ours.
    5.taxation: tax is so exorbitant to a common worker who toils to fend for his family.Tax is cut at the source.As if that is not enough,ZESCO,cuts tax such as execise duty,ZNBC,VAT from the same money and not forgeting shoprite and other supermarkets.

    If the MMD has won in Mpombo’s area, it could be in Masaiti’s Mutaba Ward. I hope the mighty UPND team beat Pee yeFu (PF) there on the Copperbelt.

  23. Just accept defeat! # 1, 2 & 4 you are hopeless chaps, why should you compare apples and bananas. The ward elections in Kafulafuta won by the malingering MMD are nothing. The laws and direction of this country is discussed in parliament!
    MMD should not call the loss they have suffered in Mporokoso a temporary set back, they had the whole state machinery including frequent FLIER HIMSELF in Mporokoso. They have spent so much money to yield nothing and this should continue happening to them so that the Zambians can consume the US$1 million from Chinese premiere without any consequences.
    Zambians liberate yourselves, push for a PACT between the PF and UPND so that these MMD crooks can come and join their consultant Chiluba in courts!

    Check your English constructions. The correct usage is not “temporal setback” but “temporary setback”. Temporal and temporary are not synonymous.

PF is the biggest tribal party in the country.During rallies and officiall meetings Bemba is tribally used and that is why poor Inonge and Lubinda are now sidelined simply coz the they ca not speak good bemba

  33. #25 ba Daudi, when you participate in elections the idea is for your party to win whether it be a ward by election or parliamentary. After all a constituency is made up of wards, the more wards you command the better your chances of winning parliamentary seat, the votes add up you know. This is especially so for the PF which claims to dominate the Copperbelt. If PF was really still strong in Kitwe, they could win any elections without even campaigning. Guys, losing a ward seat in your stronghold is not pleasant but just swallow your pride and admit defeat as MMD has done.

    My own sense is that Chembe Nyangu was saying that the PF victory was temporary or of LIMITED TIME so that after some period of time the MMD will prevail. Does this suggest any synonimity between temporal and temporary?

  37. I guess time to look at the future, MMD will lose power but RB will return his position. The 50% plus 1 thingy! will work for him. We need a better route if we have to defeat RB. If its true Mpombo lost then this gives MMD a breather. We have to note that RB will rigg the votes and end up winning using the same pattern.   56. PF has won. Well done! This is what free democracy is all about. The winner takes all. MMD you need to step up your gear so that we can continue seeing your fiscal programes. Glad to hear that there was no blood bath from cadres on the ground and the police too.

    I have noted that there is too much bitter exchanges between PF & UPND bloggers. Rest assured, the general election will have the final stamp.

    RB keep on rolling out developmnet programs to all corners of Zambia. Thus including to areas where trbalism derives.

  58. #56 you are right. The general elections this year will be interesting.I forsee the change of guards at Plot 1, with or without the PACT. People want change for good or worse! So RB and MMD should start preparing for proper exit strategy. The landlords to Plot 1 seem to be so determined to evict the current tenant.VIVA PF for winning Mporokoso. Nyangu,RB and the rest of MMD need to work extra hard to prove to Zambians that they deserve another term. as things stand MMD is on its way out. the much talked about development is only benefiting the MMD circles hence the continued trend of losing seat(mufumbwe,solwezi, chilanga and now Mporokoso). by the way MMD is working very hard losing western province because of the RB response to the BRE issue.
    UPND needs not to be short sited in the way they address the pact issue.this requires thoughtful thinking otherwise they may just create their own death bed

    Alas for your name, it smells of President Banda’s tribalism and his call for Easterners not to vote for non Eastern Zambian tribes. Honestly how do you call that, PF is tribal just because you can not vote nor support other political leaders from other tribes apart from yours, that is not fair?

    Nyanja language is used in Kafue and Lusaka province, if this was Bemba, the Lozis, Tongas including you Easterners would have accused Bembas of imposing their language on other tribes but i have never heard any complaints from my fellows from Western and Southern provinces, why?

    Do not use propaganda to tarnish the image of PF, MY CONCERN IS THIS CAN BRING Rwanda types genocide because people hate others just because of their tribal language!

Please we do not want tribal appointments in important position of the government nor parties because this only brings NEPOTISM in the running of the government.     Kunda is using Zambians mathematics of anticipating things which are not possible, this what we do Zambians when the Zambian Football Team is competing for a major tournament and we loose the major games and remain with two to but we are at the bottom!!     Kunda is going to be shocked after the General Election, MMD is losing not because of anything but because they have reversed the Anti Corruption Fight in Zambia and have made the Anti Corruption Commission, Drug Enforcement and Police to MMD institutions.
