Share

Several foreign dignitaries have arrived in Zambia to attend the burial of the late Republican President, Dr. Levy Mwanawasa. Government has confirmed that 15 heads of state will attend the funeral of President Mwanawasa, who died at Percy Military Hospital in France on August 19.
The first dignitaries to jet in were the representative of Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom, the Duke of Gloucester and Lord Malloch Brown, Minister for Africa, Asia and the UN at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.Others who arrived on the same plane are the German representative Ambassador, Mathias Mulmenstadt who is his country’s Africa director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Ghanaian President, John Kufuor, will lead a 20-member delegation. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kabinga Pande, said this in an interview in Lusaka yesterday.

Mr Pande said Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe, would lead a 30- member delegation.

He said Zimbabwean opposition Movement for Democratic Change leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, will also be at the burial.

Other heads of state who have come for Dr Mwanawasa’s burial are Botswana President Ian Khama, Tanzanian leader Jakaya Kikwete who is also African Union chairman, Southern African Development Community chairperson, Thabo Mbeki of South Africa, and Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of Congo,

Namibian President, Hifikepunye Pohamba, Mozambique’s Armando Geubuza, Malawi’s Mbingu Wa Mutharika and his predecessor Bakili Muluzi.

Others are Gambian President Yahya Jammeh and his Chadian counterpart, Idriss Deby, Lesotho Prime Minister, Pakhalitha Mosisili and Swaziland Deputy Prime Minister Albert Shabangu.

Mr Pande said other foreign dignitaries expected into the country included Chinese Foreign Minister, Yang Jiechi and his Liberian colleague, Olubanke King Akerele.

A church service at Parliament is expected to commence at 09:00 hours but mourners are advised to be at the venue by 07:00 hours.

  1. I am touched by all those dignataries who will attend the burial especially those who would not usually attend a burial in their home of origin as burials are usually private affairs. Thanks for respecting our traditions and showing us moral support during this trying time.

    Welcome to Zambia.

  2. Rest in peace. We surely miss you. what a great leader he was, zambian elect a suitable leader like Mwanawasa. Don’t consider tribe as we are all Zambians whether been a Tonga or bemba. One Zambia One Nation.

  3. A well deserved dignified funeral indeed. LPM, i will personally miss you. May God be with us as we put our beloved president to rest.

I was just wondering why LT decided to report the arrival of the dignitaries starting with those from Europe. Fellow Africans first ba LT, then outsiders last.

  4. very Very sad indeed. O ba Levy, we shall surely miss you.
Pics will be very welcome today, we would be lucky to see anything on Aussie news, Most likely not.

  5. I am touched by the presence of all these high-powered people. Its good to see Mr. Mugabe despite all that happened prior to His Excellency’s death.
LT what do you mean I am positng comments too quickly? Thats not true.

  6. I wish God’s blessings to all foreign dignatories who have come from far and near to mourn with Zambians and witness the remains of our Late President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, SC being put to rest. May the Almighty God reward your excellencies tremendously for your good neighbourliness. Thank you for joining mother Zambia in mourning its departed Leader. Zambia will never be the same, as Mwanawasa was very unique. May God have mercy on all Zambians as we look forward to God to provide us another befitting selfless Leader fashioned by Him. AMEN

  7. I had put in a request with ZNBC for a video footage. Hope we can view the funeral on their website. Keeping my fingers crossed.

  8. Ne Ndoshi nga Mugabe shilalosaha. Thank you for coming over Robert. We will always be one. And that one, Africaness regardless. Love.

  9. its great to see how Africa can be united especially in times of grief. AS we forge forward let choose a capable leader not based on Tribe. and give kudos to Chiluba he did after all finger pick the late.

  10. #5, Good observation about the reporting on attending dignitaries. In my opinion an African head of state far out-ranks a mere civil servant at the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Very symbolic of the low regard we have of ourselves.

  11. Its really sad……Thank you to all the presidents who have come to morn with us and GOD Bless you all….
OUR LATE PRESIDENT…WE PRAY THAT THE HOLY ANGLES OPEN WIDE THE PEAL GATES OF HEAVEN FOR YOU….. M.Y.S.R.I.E.P

  12. Chipo..daagther to LPM ..just read a bible reading that was not so politically friendly…”my hardwork will be inherited by someone who did nothing…and does not deserve it…”
Maureen in her speech (read by an assistant) disclosed that LPM left a WILL for the nation..and if only Levy could have heard the showers of praise post his death..he wud have lived a happy man..as his life was presented to him with hate..and enemies..and he never felt appreciated. A preacher from LPM’s church is giving a sermon now (10.45am)

  13. Members of this forum what are your views about the much talked about ‘tape’ by morreen .what good wil it do to MMD and the nation at large considering the fact that MMD is already divided?

  14. Bury him, it has been a long 21 or 60 days from the time he had a stroke. Zambians are funny, in 70 days they are saying RB has shown leadership qualities to take us for the next 3 years. What experience is this?

Can someone tell us when UNZA is opening? Any news please about UNZA???

  15. Tata Ba Levy, katusheni Mwalibomba ifimulingile. Bane tusalefye bwino not ati efyalandile ba Levy. Mwibabepesha mwebashakwata nsoni mubepesha nabaleele.

  16. Yah, when is UNZA re opening? So sad though. But life has to continue and remember zedians, these chaps want to amass wealth by increasing their allowances and salaries while the commoners go hungry on their daily duties.

  17. #23 Bwana is this is not the right time to talk about when UNZA will open. Foolish man! You guys do you know when they say comment on the issue? why comment on things which are out of topic.
just go to the community hall and watch tv.

  18. To all Zambians at home please know that we are mourning together though we are out of the country during this important time. May we be one and united in mourning and buring our president. One Zambia One Nation.

    God bless you
    Shalom Shalom

  19. Go Well LPM. You meant well in most of your dealings. To error is human. But corruption is still rife in all the ministries. We need somebody else to unveil your corrupt appointees that were in sheep’s clothes. If MMD continues, they will cover things just like Chiluba nearly managed to do if it were not for GOD appointing LPM to expose them. Time to expose also them also has come. No better time. But we need a sound minded person to do so.The idea is to eradicate Corruption by first fighting the causes of corrupt acts. Why should corruption cases take so long? It could be another case of corruption.

  20. This thing is now boring. Can’t they just go and burry him. People are hungry can’t you see? There is only water there and its only to few. Where is the water Zain donated? I hope GRZ will not take them to there homes

  21. Forgive us we are as equaly corrupt as those we condem and point our dirty finger at.

We want a person who can protect us and our interests eg Zambian Airways, Plunder Cases (we are also plundering from as “MNB Legal practioners), and some other deals which we are hidden under.

Ifwe ba POST tukondema balya abatuchinga.

So Magange is our choice and that is why we have descided to BE HIGHLY UNETHICAL by openly and shamelessly and without fear to OPENLY campaign for MAGANDE.

  22. You gentelmen and ladies, you surprise me.
Do you mean Levy was an angel who has left Zambia without any trace of evil. I have not heard anyone talk about the family tree and how Shaka was protected as my nephew who did not apply to be a relative to Levy. And why is it that Levy’s wish should be interpreted as the wish of the majority intelligent Zambians? You chaps on this website are so annoying that I begin to doubt how serious we can be. Zambia is not a monarch and certatinly what Maureen and a newspaper I have forgotten its name are spining is not Levy’s wish but thwir own.Was there a sogned pack between this newspaper and Levy’s family tree that they are working so hard to protect?

  23. Lo and behold, for we are a small AXE but very much sharp and ready to cut, chop and throw the pieces of the evil tree in a furnace full of brimstone.

  24. What ever the paper that digs deeper is doing, is very much numbered and they will follow suit. Rememeber how many news papers arose during the last moments of KK. By the way why didnt he settle at shambalakale farm where minestone built a mansion for him?

  25. Forgive us we are as equaly corrupt as those we condem and point our dirty finger at.

We want a person who can protect us and our interests eg Zambian Airways, Plunder Cases (we are also plundering via our HIGH LEGAL FEES from as “MNB Legal practioners), and some other deals which we are hidden under.

Ifwe ba POST tukondema balya abatuchinga.

So Magange is our choice and that is why we have descided to BE HIGHLY UNETHICAL by openly and shamelessly and without fear to OPENLY campaign for MAGANDE.

  26. Am not very confortable with LPM leaving a ‘Will for the Nation’. One thing I have just discovered in Zambians is that we dont trust each other.

What makes us so frightened and so unsure that the next president will not do better than LPM?

Fine he laid the groud for economic progration, but lets just build on it. Levys plans have not even gone a quater for this country to have a sustanable economy.

  27. If Mwanawasa was a good leader, then let us also thank the person who brought that good leader. All this good thing where initiated by Chiluba. Viva! Chiluba for bringing a great leader. Great leaders begot great leaders.

  28. Coorupt mabenga giving reading his speech …… Kabnga before almost broke down, he had to take a few moments mid – speech.
Fellow bloggers if the Post betrays us(which wud be sad indeed),
we can carry on as the new Post as long as we mind our language on this blog … JAH GUIDE

  29. SADC, in what capacity has Mugabe attended the funeral? Has he attended to body-view and confirm that indeed President Mwanawasa who condemned his undemocratic acts was indeed dead. He is lucky the first lady was too weak to throw him out.

  30. What is the total budget for LPM`s funeral. ZED has cash and I can`t understand why they can`t solve the UNZA problem for good but pamalilo bashaina. shame!!!!!!!!

  31. Forgot to inform you that PF members were looking bright in white, just by the Foot Bridge at mada hill waiting to bid farewell to Levy.
.. Mbeki givin speech and praising Levy’s reconciliation with the opposition and his efforts in regional democracy

  32. Levy did better but but could have done better than he did.The man had problems in appointments or coming up with a credible political team .If you look for example at most of his nominated MPs they either resigned or fell out favour with him eg Sondashi,Sikatana,Mwanga, chitala nevers etc.The fact the he didnt have a vice President in the party leaves much to be desired ,what kind of poltical ball fornation he was playing. The Late LPM had leadership qualities and its this that made him tick as President but he choose weak ,hypocrites and greedy people to work with. The issue of Minister s salaries is a pointer that few of his ministers can be trusted.

  33. Kikwete (president of Tanzania) and AU chair giving the blah blahs (11:56). It must be blazing hot out there..the programme seem to be running behind schedule..speeches speeches..

  34. Thankyou very much for mourning with us bu i think China is just here to further their political interests . Ank the other issue unrelated to this , what has happened to fred meembe and the post? I think he has gone mad to think he is the only one who knows what is good for the zambian people . In a democracy leaders are chosen by people not by one editor with a paper that has lost direction. People let us speak out about this evil.

  35. I agree with #27 refering to #23’s comments. Dr Shock nga tamukwete ifyaku posapo, you are quite excused – ka sendameni!

Meanwhile… our Heart felt thanks go to everyone from around the world who have sent their messages of condolences and to the Dignitaries who will be attending the Burial of our Great LEADER.

    Many Thanks

Rest in PEACE LPM – Commander In Chief!

  36. Why are you complaining about the post? They have dug well. That is the reality for MMD. The nation however will decide. But if you remain divided as the opposition dont say there was rigging. You can not unseat a ruling party if you are divided. It is proven in many contries. Dont you see why in big democracies like USA and UK. There are only two parties you hear about? Do you think out of the millions of their citizens there arent many that wish to head their governments? It is because there are realistic and many are well learned in these issues.Dont just waste your monies. The sick must only support the fairly helthier candidate. We do not want another state funeral.

  37. IM A ZIMBABWEAN RESIDENT IN ZAMBIA.I THOUGHT AS AFRICANS DESPITE THE PERCEIVED DIFFERENCES THAT SEKURU MUGABE MIGHT HAVE HAD WITH THE GOOD MAN MWANAWESA,HE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO SAY ‘GOOD BYE’TO HIS CONUTERPART. LET NOT THIS SEPARATE US,WE ARE ALL TOUCHED BY THIS LOSS.DONT ZAMBIANS MWARI ARIPO(GOD IS THERE),HE WILL GUIDE YOU THROUGH.

  38. Acting president just given speech ful of praise . some of them not relevant to the occastion(11.40).what powers does mugabe poses at his presence the AU bowled elyo ba widow balifilwa ukumutanfya.just luk at the picture by LT.

  39. Kwena!Touching, really. Please give us a slide show of the process,we’d be grateful for that!Futi, thanks a million to all those who have come from far and wide to mourn our Leader! To God be the Glory for Everything!Amen

  40. Nice picture ba LT! Bob Mugabe may not have been the best of friends with Levy but in a truly African & humble way, he has come to pay his respects to Maureen & the first family and Zambia @ large. Bravo, this is the way to mourn a great man like LPM. It’s a pity very few people publicy appreciated him when he was alive? yet today, millions are today singing his praises…

  41. #52 Cairo Road

Thanks for the update. I am not near any tele (Im actually working!) so your comments have at least given me an idea of what is going on. Keep on.

  42. To the guys giving us reports from the funeral on tv, many thanks!I wish znbc had live streaming or something.I really wanted to see the funeral for myself.Hopefully someone will post a video on youtube for the rest of to see how things went on.
    One love Zambia!

  43. Rest in peace LPM, we will miss you.
Thanks to everyone for coming for burial, we really appreciate.

Ba LT, kindly show us some photos. We are very far from home and cannot watch ZNBC

  44. I have never heard a politician in Zambia talk about how they are going to improve the education or health system neither have I heard how the late mwanawasa improved any of the above systems. All i hear about is his legacy and continuity. meanwhile I have seen in the new deal roads which where once tarred been down graded to gravel even just behind statehouse there in woodlands. I love to be educated if this is the continuity we are looking for . I for one i think we deserve better than the Late. MORE WORK LESS TALK!

  45. Body now taken to embarsy park. Kaping’a Pande cried just b4 finishing his speech. Mabenga (MMD Chairman)said….”We will never have another LPM….He was uniquelly different”….
    LPM rest in peace.(12:33hrs)

  46. I salute every zambian that fights for the cause of freedom, yearns for peace and stands for justice..
Its been a long time.To LPM, MYSRIP.
Now lets stamp out these corrupt leaders from government.can if Magande or RB ever opposed the illegal increament of ministers salaries??
    Abash recycled politicians!!!!!!!
    Viva Transperancy!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  47. Leadership is influence and service. With or without a title, this influence and service must be evident in the life of a leader. For influence one needs an infectious character (honesty, hard work, family values, principles, vision etc). For service one needs skills (education, experience, management, communication etc). I would be glad if we could be educated on how Rupia Banda, Magande and indeed other aspirants fair on these characteristics.

  48. #43. I agree that FTJ too must be acknowledged for handpicking LPM a man of such integrity.

Many thanks to most of your sobber comments on this mews item. I salute u all.

  49. 58-dont get zambians wrong. No one hates bob personally he has done good things as well as bad things as patriotic zambian i wud love him to luk in the mirror and see his bad side.

  50. #9 Alliyah in Melbourne, stick SBS News you might catch something. Especially tomorrow. Its the only local tv channel that actually reported his funeral.

  51. Living away from Z can be hard sometimes especially in terms of getting adequate info from home .

Digging for more info on the funeral of our beloved president, I went to view what could have been on the The Post (TP). I was saddened when realise that I could not read any content related to the funeral because I must have had subscribed.

In times like these, I really expected the TP to really accord all humanity to have had a chance (FOR FREE) of getting the right info from the source especailly after the ealier conflicting rumours on the death of our beloved president. EVEN for ONE DAY!! Where is there Zambianism?

  52. Thanks to Maureen for a changed atitude towards sympathysers. I was worried that she would treat President Bob the same way she treated PF Leader Sata at Chipata Airport. Thanx Maureen once more

  53. Zambia cant survive without China. What you should care about is the need to have well educated people to put up formidable and meaningful investments. As a third world country, only China is able to deal with us and the credits we relie on.

  54. African culture is good. A president kneeling down before a widow, that is great. The only other time, presidents kneel down is before a traditional chief.

Finally, the chapter is coming to a close, pheew!!!

  55. Imwe ask Magande why he is in a rush. Ask him about his PS and $1m scandal on the IFMIS project. What happened to $900K from ZESCO. Mahtani scandals etc, Maureen can only trust Magande.

Either Banda or PF is the way forward.

  56. So Fred Mmembe thinks he is now a king in zambia heee. Little does he know that there are billionares in zed who are quiet. he thinks by buying a hummer, then he becomes a tycoon, atase, i personally have stopped buying his crap.

  57. We will miss LPM. Pipo called him names. I beleive that its not that they hated him but they loved him. I remember at school even good teachers were given nick names but its was a way of appreciating them. You have served Well Levy.

  58. The casket of the late president is mounted on a gun carriage and leaving the national assembly now. It is being escorted by the military.

  59. Denmark radio has up to date covered leaves death and funeral, It covered Manawasa’s death rumours to by Zaza with 90 % of the news discussing how Manawasa had been challenging Robert Mugabe. Most of the International media in LPM tribute are not covering what he did in Zambia but how he was a pain to Mugabe.

  60. Just shows how united Africa and the world can be. If only we could unite not only at funerals but also in other key business areas I think Africa and the world at large would surely be a better place to live in. Thanks to all of you who have shown us Zambians so much support during this trying moment.

  61. Denmark radio has up to date NOT covered leaves death and funeral, It covered Manawasa’s death rumours to by Zaza with 90 % of the news discussing how Manawasa had been challenging Robert Mugabe. Most of the International media in LPM tribute are not covering what he did in Zambia but how he was a pain to Mugabe

  62. Denmark radio has up to date covered LEVYS death and funeral, It covered Manawasa’s death rumours to by Zaza with 90 % of the news discussing how Manawasa had been challenging Robert Mugabe. Most of the International media in LPM tribute are not covering what he did in Zambia but how he was a pain to Mugabe

  63. Bloggers, with all due respect, as someone earlier pointed out you are not using this forum as it is meant to be used. It makes no sense to post your messages of condolences, valediction and praise on this blog. Other forums exist for that and not this one. We should be discussing and commenting on the subject matter and hopefully sharing progressive views. Outpouring of emotions will be very welcome in the classified daily newspapers. Not here!

  64. Denmark radio has up to date NOT covered leaves LEVYS death and funeral, It covered Manawasa’s death rumours to by Zaza with 90 % of the news discussing how Manawasa had been challenging Robert Mugabe. Most of the International media in LPM tribute are not covering what he did in Zambia but how he was a pain to Mugabe

  65. #5 and #16 + others of simillar mindsets – LT did not mention the names of the dignitories by order of rank. It was by who arrived first. Please check your facts. If you want your leaders to be mentioned first…maybe try to get them off the ‘African time’ mentality and be punctual for once. Don’t make issues out of nothing…please.

  66. It will b very hard 4us zambians2find a president like Mwnawasa but with God everything is possible! we just hope and pray that the Almighty should provide us a good leader whose got national interest and a good heart.will miss u bashi chipo may your soul rest in eternal peace.

  67. This is a commitment that I make today. I WILL NOT RENEW MY POST SUBSCRIPTION WHEN IT EXPIRES. The Post has become nothing but biased and very unprofessional. I understand news organizations have the right and can endorse a candidate of their choice but should never be seen to put undue influence on its readers. The paper that digs deep had HIT ROCK BOTTOM. I REGRET MY SUBSCRIPTON!

  68. I commend the Dignitories that have arrvied for Mwanawasa’s Burial and it makes me understand that Zambia is a Christian Nation and hence the peace. Now to the bloggers, pls hold ur fire. Theres time for everything, this is time for mourning our dear president, and the next will be who is the best successor. FOR NOW LETS RESPECT OUR LATE PRESIDENTS FUNERAL PROCESSION BY OBSERVING SILENCE AND PRAYER. Remember, NO MATTER HOW A BIG A LIZARD CAN BE, IT WILL NEVER TURN INTO AN ALEGATOR (This saying can be applied to a lot of situations that have and are taking place in Zambia NOW!!!!!!!!!!!)

  69. Maureen is looking really sad and sober. Hope its not her strategy for symphathy. We know hell will break loose from midnite as campaigns will be an open throat and Sata awaits for that moment.

  70. Maureen is seen crying for the first time on set, I want to see Mugabe now as he also looked so sorry at parliament buildings

  71. 84-You are talking sense, however we need to exercise caution in dealing with china. Ba Sata ama chocholi kubeba ati ”mwikala patalala mwine apatalalika”handle this isue carefully. PF advisers be on hand this is a clear penalty .score or pa bench.

  72. can someone pls enlighten the rest of us who have no clue as to whats going with the Post- abene #93. pls, whats the story with fred and the post?

  73. I concur with No. 105 (Yangu-USA). I am also making a similar commitment-I will not renew my POST subscription when it expires!
It has become very difficult to get latest information from Zed, let alone LPM’s funeral.Only managed to see pictures at Richie’s World (Thanx Richie for the updates)and a few at LT.
ZNBC and Zamnet are CRAP! Instead of being champions in the provision of news updates, all they provide is outdated stuff!

  74. Please, Levy, farewell to you, MYSRIP. As a Zambian, thanks for all the messages of condelences from well meaning friendly govts and indeed well meaning Zambians.

Iam far away from Zambia but my heart is with you all there, please, vote wisely, forget about tribes (quantity), quality matters.

  75. Good!! Now that they have entered the body of LPM we are starting our court cases against the international media for sabotage!

CNN, BBC. SKy and other international medi should pay damages for their alarming staement that our presido hasd died. Investor confidence eroded and the kwacha went on the down spin following the announcement.

They know the consequences! They have gone under and not even reporting the burial procession. How can we forgive them! We want not less than 300 billion dollars for the damage that they have caused. Our Lawyesr take it up. Tiza wina!!

  76. The state of the media in Zambia is truly a shame. We can see the Post crumbling before our very eyes. Radio Phoenix is a shadow of its own self. Without LT and QFM we would have no way of following the proceeding back home of the funeral. ZNBC and the ISPs are the biggest disappointment. Honestly they could not hookup some video streaming or web cast for us to watch from abroad. Thanks to QFM I can hear the 21 gun salute and the fly Past has just taken place

  77. Yes! I remember at one time they reported on the information that was given by Zaza. At that time they showed something on CNN and BBC. This time they are quite!! Something is wrong.may be the governmnt has alreaady taken the matter up!! Lets jhamme r them., masheleni!!

  78. may the good lord bless the family of our departed president in these trying moments,we as NamIbians in Namibia are holding a memorial service to pay our last respects to his late exellency,he was indeed a good leader who tried by all means to make Zambia a better place to live in,it is very evident even those that were not in good terms with him know that, but never the less this is no time to show our political differences but a time to console each other, we only hope there will be no commotion at the burriul or after because thats what some people are good at.may his soul rest in eternal peace.

  79. If only the dead really knew what type of coffins they get buried into, they can rise up and claim the money. So hypocritical of Africans. Let us be real and fight the big gap between the rich and poor, improve health and educational infrastructure and the general life of the commoners.

  80. TALK ABOUT PEACE

Let me remind you pipo of zed, this an issue lets take it serious all we need is peace in our beloved zambia.though very far in sudan we are mourning our leader beacause was a gudman to us.RIP

  81. Levy!!! May your soul rest in eternal peace till the second coming of the lord. You have made us proud and we shall always cherish you. You shall be the stone which we can build on after you set a strong foundation against corruption.
I have a good story to tell my sons and daughters existings and those to come about your selfless being. Your strength far outweighed your weakness…You were just human, but a good human you were. MYSRIP..Amen

  82. it is very sad to see that no one from the Russians has come to mourn our beloved LPM.Not even a message the President.May LPM RIP.

  83. 128 russia boy russk61 paren MAYBE you are expecting too much from the europeans.Africa s growth is always being disturbed by europeans just as western europe tries to pull back russia s economical progress.Mugabe should not be blamed for zimbabwe s problems. Its Britain s fault, they are failing to honour an agreemeent.Us lozis we cant have our own country because the britons together kk hide the evidence.barotse agreement.Leave the europeans alone they dont have feelings for non europeans but interests in non europeans

  84. #130 why do you want to have your own country and break away from Zambia, I think its good Lozis we taken into the many tribes of Zambia that has created unity

  85. Something interest at the grave yard, Mariam has not been part of lay wreaths despite being called and making Maureen wait for her. Its said that the two never get along. She is there but has refused to lay wreaths with Maureen. Sad indeed that not MMD has camps but her own home too despite that this is a funeral of their father and husband, I’m saddened

  86. I never said we want to break out .All i was trying to point to is to show how the europeans cause conflicts and pain in non europeans. They never want to honour agreemeents they entered with us.they only look at their interests inshort i was advising russia boy not to break his mind coz Russia never sent anyone

  87. #133,Choma 1, shed some light on the Barotse Agreement.
I want to know where loyalty of the litunga lies. zambia or UK and why wearing some uniform which was worn by some Briton officer?

  88. #132 You can’t blame Mariam. If Maureen was a witch to her while the father was alive, what more when he is dead? Maureen was only waiting for public show. Better lay the wreath without her

  89. Up to now, 44 years in existence, you think the truth will hide forever concerning the barostse agreement? What of the lozi politicians in govt? u think they will be quiet if at all the so called agreement favors them?. realize that angola or namibia will not accept even an inch of western province coz if u are disillusioned in thinking on those lines like mutangelwa the seccessionist, you are lost forever.

  90. Wonder why the Zambian embassy in New York had to have the memorial service today. Monday was a holiday alot of zambians were off on this day. Doing things without consideration now the are going to have a memorial service from 1pm – 2pm with a handful of people (the chinese that work at our Zambian embassy)

  91. All of you complaining about the Post, you should ask some of the pipo who work(ed) there for you to realise how arrogant the self righteous Meemba is. He thinks The Post is a Mini- USA that can influence the thinking of the pipo or even throw its weight around as it pleases.

  92. Mugabe nafukama on the picture, is this computer graphics or it is another Mugabe’s insane moves? This devil is not for real and does care about human life.

  93. GE GUEVERA Its a just matter of time before things will happen, you cant suppress a tribe or a race forever.Ask the Americans or jews or the GermanS or just the Zimbabweans next door with time they reclaimed their land thanx to mugabe or not to say the southafricans who recoverd their land from bazungus .The Bible is clear on this one nations will rise against(translation from tHE Bible s original language).GET UR FACTS ON RUANDA

  94. Choma 1, wether you chose to discuss the litunga or not, i know some misconceptions that were put forward by some disgruntled lozis who thot western province included copperbelt province. this theory has died a natural death. “its a matter of time” and who tells you one tribe in zambia has been suppressed?
dont you ever think of good and well behaved lozis like this shaa.

  95. Choma1 can you cut that crap about barotse and stick the topic at hand. I am Lozi and glad to be part of Zambia. Wouldn’t want to be anything else

  96. hey we are in Luwingu, Zambia, we are watching live. It is really sad. RIP LPM. We are deeply sadened by the demise. Our hearts go out to the first lady.

  97. hey we are in Luwingu, Zambia, we are watching live. It is really sad. RIP LPM. We are deeply sadened by the demise. Our hearts go out to the first lady.

  98. The good thing about zambia is no single province has one tribe. for a long time some tribes in western province were ashamed to call themselves by their tribe name but not now. My mother in law comes from western province but she is not lozi and i dont want my children to get lost in the sand just because selfish pipo like choma 1 are disgruntled and are still promoting non workable ideologies.
ONE ZAMBIA, ONE NATION is the spirit we MUST embrace.
    Back to the topic now.

  99. even bethlehem was a city despised by men where nothing
good was expected to mushroom yet jesus the saviour of mankind germinated from there.therefore lets go for a man after GODs own heart, irrespective of affiliation

  100. Is it true that lozi men are very intelligent, religious and trustworthy?pls give advise me because they guy i like says he is lozi and am bemba,my parents arent too confortable. Is there anything am missing?at times i think he might betray me because am not lozi

  101. Ba LT please tomorrow do us some pix, you are the only hope of bringing us home. ZNBC ,ZAmnet are all but crap source of info.

  102. #144, quite encouraging to see that zambia is now getting signals for tv as far as luwingu. well, the last time i was in luapula province, we were watching znbc only in mansa, now u mention of luwingu, good, radio i can remember that while in mukushi area, FM will cease and u get on AM. but we shud give credit to the late for allowing investors like celtel-now zain. hey what does this zain mean? some zedians are now share holders? hmmmmmm, am coming home

  103. #149, Lozi’s are just like Bembas, u can find an angel in a lozi man e.g the deputy speaker is comes from luapula and is happily married to a lozi man by the name of nalumango, u can just see from the name mutale nalumango. i know some bemba chaps who are so cruel to their wives. so the best u can do to your relationship is TRUST.

  104. What is wrong with Post Newspaper, the subject on the editorial seems rather strange, May someone provide us details of this strange editorial

  105. The picture on top says a thousand words. It is one that should circle round the word. Thank you alot LT for that picture. It really says alot.

  106. Chimwemwe # 157, true my brother, i was touched by that picture. Imagine a dictator on his knees, paying respect to a wife of his foe.I think it says alot and can be interpreted in several ways.

  107. mirrian was suppressed and if its true that she boycotted laying of wreaths with the first then she was making a point to some of you chaps with blind eyes.Remember in chapter sata said the first lady ought to be taught a lesson and if s true then mirrian has done. Why cant you find lozi names on the list of plunderes? The late LPM was a very good president PERSONALLY I VOTED 4 HIM but he let himself be surrounded by the wrongest chaps. Our next tour of duty is to make a follow up of the family tree thus protecting the legacy.Plunderes we are here though we failed next stop family tree.

  108. Seing that we always have somthing negative to say about every presidential aspirant and nice things to say about them when they are dead. Shall we usher in a new president on the basis of who is the better evil.

Sata might die while in office and hates the chinese
    HH Plundered our privatisation resources
Magande is not loved in his own home town and will endorse the ministers salaries
RB is unip and related to Mrs Kaunda and will eaily be manipulated
I am sure you bloggers can add to the list

  109. Pipo why did mirriam mwanawasa 1st refuse to read the first bible ridin, then again didnt go to lay wreaths wen she was evn reminded by name, smthng nt gud n the bakgrnd..

  110. Who is despicable, The Post or RB? Our Levy died promoting the rule of law and not man. But today’s Post has reversed it to “the rule of man and not law. Shame Post Shame. Forget about my subscriptions in December. You are despicable and are the real Judases.

  111. #162 Thats how people who haved been oppresed and suppresed behave they always rise when the oppressers dont expect and make the intentions known to the rest, for lack of a better term i would say uprising. We will never always let western province to be the most least developed,we are coming, undergrond we delt with 27yr dictatorship ,then plunderers, now family tree then we will form govt.First cleansing even widows first get cleansed before they meet better deals or better men or the subs

  112. Lesley Mbula is the family spokesman, which branch of the family tree does he belong to. Again he traced Zaza when it was first rumoured that our beloved President had died. He also intoduced to the church that late LPM started fellowshiping till his death

  113. A dark cloud fell on Zambia on that fateful day….19th August… maybe even earlier. Today the man has been put to rest…thank God (after touring the provinces)MHSRIP. It marks the close of one chapter, opening another more delicate one, depending on how we handle it. Let us hold hands together fellow Zambians/mourners and carry on the “peaceful” tag we are associated with, which we should not take for granted. Indeed “WE SHALL OVERCOME”. With God on our side, who can be against us. Go Zambia…GO.. Mugabe…good gesture.

  114. Numbr 149,mulenga iwe.js cum kuli ine nemu bemba nkanka.nt tht lozi, thy are excetly greedy n selfish uka chula mukashana, dnt go tht way.

  115. #164 Shame indeed to the Post. Instead of the giving us an editorial on Mugabe and Levy, they are busy insulting an innocent man (RB) who is trying to be a democratic citizen and merely expressing his constitutional right to cease an opportunity democratically. The Post has really become big headed! Shame, Shame

  116. w, w, w, daylife .com /search?q=levy+mwanawasa

The website above has some good up to date pictures of the funeral proceedings. I’m sure even LT is getting their pics from there also. For some reason, LT won’t allow me to paste the weblink directly on the blog hence my unusual text above. Hope you find it helpful…

  117. Fred Mmembe used to be relevant in our media dispensation, but it’s quite apparent he’s lost it! Campaigning openly for Magande is one thing but going all out to tarnish RB’s name is outright childish! Mmembe, your days are truly numbered, if anything, you better pray RB wins otherwise if Cycle Mata comes to power, he’ll castrate you once & for all !!!

  118. #162 I stand to be corrected even the clip that ZNBC showed for the service in France, Mirriam did not read the Bible it was the small girls. There must be a problem some where. Only God know we cannot be guessing.

  119. #179 You are right I just checked my recording she did not do that. I guess we need to dig deeper with the Times of Zambia, Daily Mail and ZNBC

  120. The post is entitiled ,you can stop buying the post if you want.you can only blame the post for lies but you have to prove .our candidates have issues including muzorewa RB let our media bring all the information b4 us as long as it not fabrication or lies.In life a person can NEVER be moraly neutral,he can only give two sides of the coin.Other papers are giving the very good side of Unip guy Banda married to my age group or my target sex group 23 to 30.information is what we need before we cast the vote.Govt papers are busy telling us our OLD man is a darling boy in the provinces but we aint complaining.

  121. The MMD Magande faction must realise that Mulongoti is on RB’s side and he is minister in charge of information, thus this team will cover RB more and control what public media can broadcast and write. Secondly MMD vote is in rural so ZANIS will be used by Mulungoti while POST cannot reach those areas. It will be an interesting race in and for MMD

  122. Burial completed people leaving the site (16:48).Final word for LMP R.I.P. May GOD Almighty thru Jesus guide us hence forth. May he continue to keep us in peace and give us a right person for presidence. GOD bless mother Zambia. Shalom, Shalom…

  123. When Mugabe heard about the serious conditions on Mwanawasa, he said, “There is nothing that we can learn from Zambia, but i leave to learn one thing…, how Mwanawasa come out ot many strokes….”
One of the reason why Mwanawasa was stressed in Egypt was Mugabe’s presence, who is known to be dirty-mouthed in the presence of his enemies.
Now Mugabe with croocodile tears comes with a 30 member delegation? Surely, Mwanawasa’s body will move three inches, when in tthe spirit he sees that Mugabe is there.
But anyway, Zedian are very forgiving and very forgetting too….you are really a chrstian nation.

  124. For an alternative perspective to the biased Post; check out the Govt dailies online (Times & Daily Mail), free of charge, might I add!!!. Atleast that way, we can see both sides of the coin…?

  125. The late LPM was really misled ,some of the appointments he made upto now can not be understood, culure needs to be adjushted, its time find why the late made negative appointments. No sympathy laws and not men -protecting the legacy

  126. Rupiah, a shameless Judas Iscariot

Of all possible negative human attitudes, the one we hate the most is disloyalty.
And, of all the positive ones, the one we value most is loyalty and firmness of principles. We would say that the one we detest the most is betrayal of principles, and the one we most admire is loyalty to principles.

It is in this light that we judge the decision and actions of Rupiah Banda to succeed President Levy Mwanawasa. Rupiah was picked by Levy from the doldrums. From nothing, Levy nominated Rupiah to become member of parliament and his Vice-President. Rupiah has over the last seventy-one or so years never been a political heavyweight in our country, especially

  127. Rupiah’s behaviour should be a good reminder to all of us that no matter what laws we pass, no matter what precautions we take, unless the people we meet are kindly and decent, we won’t make much progress. We say this because integrity, decency come from human beings, rather than from laws and institutions.

  128. The late LPM was really misled ,most of the appointments he made upto now can not be understood, culture needs to be adjusted, the legacy is already failing ,it shouldnt be praise all the time.we need to sit down and find out why the late LPM made make careles and negative appointments. No sympathy this time we have to protect the legacy ?laws and not men -protecting the legacy

  129. But Rupiah and his sponsors should remember that people are loyal to those who are loyal to them. People have faith in those who have faith in them; those who know how to respond to friendship and the trust they have received.

Given his conduct, can Rupiah be said to be a man of loyalty? And let us also look at his sponsors – Vernon Mwaanga, Mbita Chitala and Mike Mulongoti, among others. Can these men truly be said to be men of loyalty? Ask Kenneth Kaunda, Frederick Chiluba, among others, if they can say that Mwaanga is a man of loyalty? And ask those who know Chitala and Mulongoti if these men can be said to be loyal to anybody other than themselves. These are the men who have taken it

  130. The Rupiah lunacy going on needs to be stopped by all men and women of goodwill. Lunacy is always distressing, but sometimes it is dangerous; and when you get it manifested at such very high levels of the state, it is about time that it should be quickly put away.

  131. The Zambian people needs to demand the new type of nationalism which puts national needs before sectional or personal advantage. We say this because our country means nothing unless it means the triumph of a real democracy, the triumph of a truly popular government, and, in the long run, of an economic system under which each man and woman, boy and girl shall be guaranteed the opportunity to show the best that there is in them.

  132. If we don’t quickly move in this direction, our people will soon get fed up with this system of apparent democracy – not real democracy – in the country. People have grown accustomed to mixing up politics with their economic activities, using their democratic freedom in much the same way as we use cosmetics.

In an honest political environment, virtue opens a way for itself, merit prospers, and conniving, greed and cheating fail.

  133. This is the way we see things and this is why we find Rupiah’s conduct contemptible. We truly find him a despicable man – a man who can betray his friend before he is even buried, a Judas Iscariot of our time.

  134. how sure areb we that LPM said that magande should be his sucessor. it could one of maureen’s schemes. any LPM has been hidden, that is not burying according yo our traditions.

  135. Ba Fred, keep your stupidity to your self. How dare you insentively insult RB. Are you trying to gain political mileage. Better stick your nose in reporting because its quite clear that you are short sighted and can not clearly analyse the political situation. Leave the ball for the bigger boys.

  136. #199. Iwe Mmembe. Whilst you are airing your poisoned views on this blogg, why don’t you explain why you and your paper have lost the plot. We all had a lot of respect for the Post newspaper, but sometime in 2006 at around the time Maureen visited your offices, you lost it and started going down hill a direction which has led you to the depths of a “cheap”, “shallow” and “nasty” newspaper. Was it worth whatever you got out of that 2006 visit? How do you plead Mr. “Has Been”?

  137. The post is right those niggers VJ,chitala and mulongoti are full of themselves, those are the chaps LPM had wanted to hangout with, but he was always contracted with them and anot only with but with all their ex bosses chitala even had to change his name ,i have evidence for my case.all those bootlickers always get fired by the bosses and even if rupiah who is married to my sex age group appointments them he will still party company with them.Banda former resident of southern rhodesia open your eyes, dont befriend betryaers, you are old and they might give u a stroke

  138. I am disappointed with the Post. It appears that the Mwanawasa legacy involved covering up mmember and malupenga. The post is almost bankcrupt and it may go under anytime, hence the legal alternative that Fred is taking. I will not be suprised if Mmembe and Co paln their political moves with their Clive Chirwa in 2011.

  139. Post released an edition that never walked the streets “Sex scandal in State House” is this the reason why Maureen went there and blackmailed the man involved in homosexual activities with graphical evidence? Please enlighten us.

  140. Please post some Burial pix so we could view them in the USA too.
We mourn with all of you our countrymen and women – we have lost a LEADER – MHSRIEP.

  141. Oooh! By the way Leslie Mbula revealed some secrets of LPM’s plans of housing, tourism and roads project that he wanted to come and unvail on arrive from Egypt, this information was given to him by Maureen Mwanawasa he said. Now it seems Maureen knew every aspect of the President’s plans. Who really governed the people of Zed?

  142. If you surround yourself with greedy and vultures like Mulongoti, you will definately die a sad man.I agree that the late lpm could not have achieved as much as he could have wanted to but because the he let himself be surrounded by evil and bootlickers.Mulongoti once told us how close he was with chiluba but after he was dropped as deputy minister loyalty changed he became anti third term ,banda be careful your age might might withstand these guyz chitala, mwanga, mulongoti.Mwanawansa had no team ,lets now look for a political team with a good captain. The late was a good captain but he had no team

  143. May HE Levy Mwanawasa rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with the Zambian people and the First Lady at this time.

  144. we mourn our late president mhsrip whether you liked him or not at least he did some good things compared to those pompwe’s.Mugabe is a snake in the grass he shld not have been allowed. We need to chase those zimbabweans so that they put pressure on mugabe and not running to other countries and putting pressure on social services.

  145. mazedians muli bachabe just mourn and not vo lankhula pakamwa fullu u all need to pat yourselves that you have a beautiful country one zambia one nation

  146. The President has been intered, his wife Madam Mauren gave a political speech during the church service at Parliament, proclaiming that her husbands enemies are now her enemies.

I would have expected her to tell the nation how she had lost a friend, how he made her laugh, how he was a good father etc.

To make matters worse, she didnt even weep at her husbands grave, and left even before the burial ceromony was concluded. What sort of precedent is she setting for African women?

Her hunger for political power has blinded her, and now this is the woman we are supposed to believe that LPM SC had annointed a successor. Please!

  147. Cont…..Her desperation even sent her to RB, promising him an endorsement on condition that Magande doesn’t lose his cabinet position, and she be appointed as Minister. Reliable souces inform me that RB replied saying if he loses, he will retire to his farm where LPM SC found him, and expects that Magande would do the same. Regarding her request for a Ministerial position, the souce informed me that RP asked to mourn her husband instead.

  148. Am not ready to critic mama Mwanawasa just yet. for the simple reason I don’t know what it’s like to lose a spouse.

Maybe she’s in a state of shell-shock, the force of the tragedy on her brain compromises her ability to think straight. The not weeping at the grave site, the walking away before the finale. All of that can be misinterpreted by someone who has never been thru that experience.

Maybe in her confusion and her desperation, she seeks to hold on to her late husband by acquiring a position in government. to let him continue to live thru her. I have no idea. i will lay off mama Mwanawasa for now.

  149. Mugabe’s kneeling to the former first lady is contradictory to what he has been to Levy. I know you, and I have records about you. But I am Jesus…..the unexpected can happen….”can you remenber” the story about the thief who was cricufied with me???

  150. Huts off to Mugabe. Political differences should not divide us. We are all children of Africa. I appreciate your gesture and respect you for that.

  151. Our eyes remain tearful,so much respect form world leaders, meet you in the morning ba LEVY wesu. Pictures will give us some closure. Proud of Zambia.

  152. Bomfyeni POST pa ku shinda coz thats the place befitting such a useless but once powerful media tool. After all it digs deeper and no need of worrying wether your undies will be stained with stercobilin

  153. It’s really sad that the west only mention Levy in connection with his condemnation of Bob. It’s like that is the only significant thing he did. Let’s build on whatever little foundation he laid for the country. No one can deny that he was equally corrupt, vis-à-vis nepotism, but all in all he had a better plan for the country than Shorty!

  154. Despite some of us not being there on the burial day, we are with mother Zambia during this trying moment..Definately we shall overcome and thrive economically.Let all sensible Zambia heed this call and please no experiments..Remember ichi Chalo not a kantemba..

  155. Go well Levy. A very deserving send off indeed. And its good that the multitudes were asked to stay home, otherwise it would have been a terrible fiasco by mmd cadres. Im just disappointed that the Post couldnt even have the decency to let 3rd Sept be Levy’s day. They instead chose to go full throttle in attack of Rupiah Banda in a desparate attempt to ‘annoint’ Magande. Shame ba post, this was levy’s day.

  156. Thank you to the presidents of Malawi, Tanzania, Mozambique, Madagascar, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Ghana,Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho and DRC who came to mourn with us and give their colleague a brotherly send off and Zambia put this son of africa to rest.

  157. I now understand The Post editorial. Fred Mmembe is a pervert, mentally sick. Homosexuality was considered a mental disorder until 1973 when the medical dictionaries removed it from their diagnostic listing primarily due to pressure. It still is. Recent studies show homosexuals have a substantially greater risk of suffering from psychiatric problems than do heterosexuals. We see higher rates of suicide, depression, bulimia, antisocial personality disorder, and substance abuse. This fits Fred mmembe perfectly. He needs deliverance.

  158. FRED MEMBE IS A SATANIST TAMWA ISHIBA.He is dog a mad rabid dog.You know Fred u need to change or else its gonna be bad for you.You are supposed to be impartial as a journalist.I think its true that u are getting favors from Magande no bwamba why u r suuporting him.

  159. For the record – Levy Patrick Mwanawasa died August 9, 2008 at Percy military Hospital in France. His death was announced officially in Zambia on August 19, 2008 and Zambians were told that he died at 10.30 hours on that date. For those who viewed the body (and with experience) it was obvious that Levy died several days earlier than august 19, 2008.
Another record US$1.5m was taken to France for payment of medical bills etc. The French Government paid all the bills. However, the money appears to have disappeared. Maybe Maureen Mwanawasa can inform the nation about what happened instead of telling us of Levy’s Will to the nation which for some of us means continuing with the FAMILY TREE.

  160. Losing a President for the first time in our country has just showed us how united we are in Africa and how well Zambia relates with other countries both inside and outside Africa. Zambia you are not only on the Map, but even in other people’s minds, and that is why as you are mourning today you have been shown that you are not mourning alone for the son of Africa has passed, but with your other friend countries. So as you are moving on from this point on, remember to do things a manner that will continue with the honour that you have already built over the years of your existance. WELCOME OUR FRIENDS

  161. LPM. rest in erternal peace. We were once food for selfish & weaked few characters but GOD sent you to rescure us. Plunderers, pls dont celebrate. Justice shall prevail. We dont want LPM’s spirit to grieve.

  162. #239 you are right no wonder his body was decomposing if you go to theis website you will see the difference from the time the body arrived to the time they left L/stone. go to thepicturemonger.blogspot.com

  163. Let us be objective. The mounting confusion in the MMD over the issue of succession is an indication of Levy’s failure as a leader. Competent leaders do their homework and do not leave behind such confusion. If people were given jobs on merit, you would not have this level of confusion and opportunism among leaders. So, in painting Levy as selfless and suing all those lofty expressions, people are not being sincere. For example, Maureen’s speech was completely off the mark because she was not being sincere. Rather than be humble and leave this game to others, she shamelessly took us through all that false information. The message came out as if Zambia belonged to her and we owed her somethi

  164. My God you Zambians are forgiving! All African governments are corrupt! Why aren’t you all on the street voicing your opposition to Mugabe. Please put Maureen in her place as well – she is as corrupt as the rest of them
