CEEC aims at empowering locals

Share

The Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission, CEEC, says its policy is aimed at
empowering the local people economically.

Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission, CEEC, chairperson Jacob Sikazwe says this
will be done by putting in place measures that will incorporate the local people in
the development of the country.

Mr Sikazwe said this during a Citizens Economic Empowerment awareness workshop in
North-Western province yesterday.

He also assured the people in the province that the CEEC policy is not aimed at
discouraging foreign direct investment.

Mr.Sikazwe said the policy will embrace both local and foreign investors as partners
in development.

And Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission vice chairperson Evans Chibiliti said
government will ensure that business risks faced by indigenous Zambians are reduced
through measures contained in the commission's policy framework.

Meanwhile, Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace, CCJP, coordinator for Solwezi
Diocese Frederick Nabanda commended government for the creation of the Commission.

  1. The CEE initiative is long overdue, it should have been formulated years ago. However, it is very welcome as the objective is citizens empowerment.

Care must be taken though to ensure that all eligible citizens benefit from such initiatives and not place all opportunities at the disposal of a handful elite who have dominated the economic playfield in Zambia.

One just hopes that the policy framework would reflect the desire for economic development with the focus on Human Resource Development in order to sustain realise full benefits of such a policy.

I trust that CEEC would not confuse such similar frameworks as Affirmative Action and BEE practiced in the sub-region with the CEE objectives. I believe that they are different in many respects but converge at the common point of citizens empowerment.

Let’s see how it will be implemented.

    Viva economic empowerment!!

  2. I agree that the CEEC is long overdue but we thank the current administration for such an initiative. indeed if well implemented it will surely contribute to Zambia’s economic performance and probably help the country achieve the target of 7% rise in economic performance.

it will help a great deal if the CEEC presents more information on how the ordinary citizen, and not just the few elite, can access this empowerment.

    Congrats Zambians!!
