MMD NEC begins the selection process

Share

Mulungushi International Conference Centre (MCCI) is a hive of activities as MMD cadres from various parts of the country flock to the centre to give support to their preferred Presidential candidate.

A check by ZANIS this morning found scores of MMD cadres chanting and singing solidarity songs in support of Acting President Rupiah Banda.

Mr. Rupiah Banda’s supporters who seem to be dominating at the centre were also seen with placards in support of him.

MMD Ndola District vice Information and Publicity Secretary, Alex Mubanga told ZANIS in an interview that the Copperbelt Province has opted to rally behind Mr. Banda as he has shown maturity and exemplarily leadership since he took over as acting President.

Mr. Mubanga noted that MMD members in the province have assessed and screened all the aspiring candidates adding that Mr. Banda is the only one who was found as a credible leader able who will be able to continue with the programs left behind by President Mwanawasa.

In a separate interview, Nelly Mumba an MMD cadre said all the women in the party are in support of Acting President Rupiah Banda adding that they will campaign flat out for him to ensure that the MMD scoops the Presidency.

The Presidential seat fell vacant after the death of Dr Mwanawasa last week on Tuesday, 19th August, 2008, at Percy Military Hospital in Paris, France.

Mr Banda is among several party members that have applied to be considered as Presidential candidates in the forthcoming presidential election.

Dr Mwanawasa’s second term and final five year term of office was due to end in 2011.

The Ruling Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) National Executive Committee (NEC) is today expected to disclose the Presidential candidate who will represent the party in the forthcoming presidential election.

NEC which is the highest organ of the party is currently meeting with the all the Presidential aspirants at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre (MCCI) where a decision on who will represent the party is expected to be arrived at.

  1. RB’S SUPPORTERS WITH ‘PLACARDS’ ARE ONLY THERE TO INTIMIDATE OTHER PEOPLE. THIS WHOLE THING IS A FUSS. THEY’LL PUT RB IN BY HOOK OR BY CROOK – CORRUPT MMD

  2. hahahahha!! spot on dude! Fred’s day of reckoning has arrived. Anybody see today’s times?? Now we all know why he supported Magande – bloody opportunist who can’t even pay his workers!!

  3. have these chaps disclosed the name of their eighteenth apllicant and who is this chap?. bamambala naba fulungana, kuya bebele..

  4. #1 you are correct.the post have a sinister agenda. Its very sad for the post to have taken up such a direction. Its no longer the critical post we knew.I even have stopped buying it except on thursdays. You know why…KALAKI.

The paper has been compromised to the bones!!!

  5. Magande should remain Minister of finance he has performed very well their let him not turnish his worth for love of power. Ba Banda kaya?

  6. Here we go again, some more monkey tricks from Movement for Monkey Development, hope they do come out with some breath-taking swinging tricks – BUT A BYE-ELECTION we shall have!!! For all right thinking Zambians, lets again blow our car horns & blare our lights every friday as we did last time just to confirm to them that we mean to stick to our constitution & not monkey tricks, ViVa People Power, Power to the People!!!!

  7. i agree with u #1. the post werent supposed to come out straight on who their preffered candidate was.shud RB win, i can see them supporting HH.I’v really lost confidence in the post. they were suposed to be objective about the whole thing. their reporting is very much influenced by their personal interets.

  8. Why didn’t M’membe arrange for cadres to support his preferred candidate? Too bad for him he has failed to live up to the impartial image his paper had. Hope he gets back on track and analyse issues with objectivity – not taking sides!

  9. What is happening to the opposition. It looks like they could be facing financial issues to mount some meaningfull campaigns.
This is a clear opportunity for either the PF or UPND to make a giant leap over MMD for whichever candidate they chose.
PF if it is Magande, and UPND if it is Rupah Banda.

  10. you guys who are insulting and doubting the capability of rupia to rule zambia are in fo a great shock. can you all prove with facts why rupia cant be president. what we need here is continuity, peace and growth in our economy which rp can do with a formidable cabinet. stop criticising rupia based on the people who are supporting him coz those ministers around rp are not his own chosing they were appointed by LPM so who is corrupt rp or the one who appointed them? you are behaving no different than the post who want to condem VJ,mulongoti, chilumanda, chitala for their support for RP today and to turn a blind eye on the fact that these rae the same guys who campainen and made mwanawasa earlir

  11. The opposition is now shivering with the adoption of RB. in separate press briefings of general Tembo and CHONGWE these great leaders ve fully shown for the support of RB

  12. I would like to know how they have worked around the non-eligibility of RB to contest the party presidency. Anybody with the info? Hope VJ hasn’t manufactured a party membership card indicating that RB joined MMD in 1980!

  13. we all waiting and its seems M’membe is shivering right now becos RB has support from his wives and nephews.but we have to look at the long run,can RB compete against the KING COBRA?or even HH for that matter? it seems also like people have missed communism in humanism.RB is a UNIP chap he probably doesnt even have an MMD constitution.Lets wait and see,as for me when the fllod comes i know where the boat is parked.

  14. continued

today you are talking about legacy when its the same guy you insulted when he appeared on the scene in 2001 whats wrong wit you guys. RP you are a citizen and what has happened to you is the same gracious thing that happened to mwanawasa who was put in the rigth place at the rigth time such that even if galibals talked he pulled through undetared and today everone is praising him. let me advise you guys your thots, opinoins are not God’s just pray that the will of God prevails otherwise our choices may not be he’s. to membe you desperate chap shame to you resolve your employee problems.

  15. Today is another surely can RB deliver? The man has no agenda for this country and he has no economic policy at all.Now if Rb wins its not the final we need to put a person who had an agenda and he can compare with wat levy had and move on.RB has to choose his new finance minister and if not careful this is where trouble comes. What has RB done in the past in his political career?Lets have Ba sata or HH because they sold themselves with their manifestos in 2006 and we heard , now RB will start from scratch what a draw back.Voters open your eyes!

  16. Magande has deffered a payment that Zambian Airways owed National Airports.Membe is a share holder for Zambian airways.Coincidence?

  17. The opposition are quite because they don’t have funds for the campaign. They did not plan for the by-election. Shame on all you. No backup plan.

  18. Let Ba MMD field RB and see how they are going to be trounced by the opposition!
Magande would have made a good candidate had he not had his fingers tainted with M’embe and the Nchito Brothers’ dirt!

  19. Why is it that all those retired guyz like VJ,C.TEMBO and R> CHONGWE have started talking about the late LPM’s successor.Lets hope VJ is not going to do well known crooks raw method. We want free and fair elections once we go to the polls later this year in november ‘Aichindike sana.’

  20. Nec should 1st name the 18 candidate and then level the playing field.Rumour has it that the short man FTJ has applied. How true is it.

  21. Countrymen is there any difference between magande and HH?i guess there isnt!these are out. the race shud be between the King Cobra and RB but we know very little about RB. So its better we go for the devil/angel we know.what do u think?

  22. It is now quite apparent that RB WILL GET THE NOMINATION.I doubt if Magande will even get 4 votes. The provincial endorsements are like primaries in the USA.It is very unlikely that NEC can overturn the endorsements from provinces. The endorsements are a reflection of the popularity of RB in all the provinces.RB is the undisputed candidate for MMD.In order to save face and start campaigning for 2011,Magande must withdraw from the race, before he is bruised such that it will negatively affect his chances in 2011.

  23. Ananymous, thats the most foolish analysis I have ever head. Magande stood no chance to be nominated in that MMD party even if he was Jesus Christ.

  24. Rupiar may 70years old,but u can vividly see his dullness and ignorance on his face.we don’t need such a trash in state house.

  25. rupiah doesnt need any agenda he has to continue with what is laid on the ground. dont forget Rupiah is a qualified Economist with a masters degree from leeds university so the issue of magande being the best economic manager is out of question Rp has eyes to see there are alot of zambians qualified talented to handle that. mind you magande was not alone in the ministry there was Felix mutati who i feel is the best guy for mmd presidence and zambia as well. its good that he dint stand this time it would be good if he did so in 2011. he is professional not a carder like sata and so far his ministry hasnt been at stand still in bickering he is beusy working.mutati wud be the best.

  26. Political Analyst: Dont waste you breath on 2011. What makes you think Rupiah Banda and his hungry hyenas will pave way for another candidate in 2011 if he wins the Bye-elections. Comeone be real. The winner of these bye-election will have a huge advantage to be adopted for the 2011 election.. Change your name from polictical analyst to MMD cadre.

  27. #18 what can RB do which can make the opposition shiver.the lawyer used to fail breathing before they reconciled.can RB measure to that? and those who are given RB the credit for the peace we are enjoying in this country should revisit their sources. PA BWATOOOO!!!!!!!

  28. I was thnkin: what wud the post do if SATA & HH formd a pact then RB won MMD presidency? they hate sata and RB. Maybe they will support Cosmo mumba

  29. The 23 rebel MPs led by one Peter machungwa are oredi campaining against Sata in their constituencies…UBWATO bwa bunda again…VIVA RB

  30. #33, grow up, what is wrong with Magande or HH? Is it because they are tongas for you to pass such a useless comment. Whether Bemba, tonga, lozi or chokwe, what is needed is a credible leader who is able to articulate issues and push development in the right direction. Stop your stinking hate.
    Meanwhile viva Sata!

  31. #18 The opposition will in fact be happy if rp is adopted cos, he is not presidentail material so it will be their best chance of beating the mmd. They should now be on the look out for vj. why did the mmd woke him up?

  32. magande is very dull to have even thought of using the post to campaign for him. the post shame to them coz they claim to have integrity and cant be bot alas today with the times story have leanrt a lesson that they are no different than a political, selfish publication who would twist facts as long as it suits them. they condemn others that they are job seekers for giving support to ohters are the post not human beings who need a good life, money, debts write offs…. so what would be wrong for us to conclude that there support for magande there is something in it for them. God reveals who hidden things when people push their luck too far especially in hypocricy and self righteousness. more

  33. #33 brother not when the devil continuosly spits such deadly vernom as does the Cobra. Fast and pray that Zambia be spared!

  34. Zambia has always been a place where you have the best but you always want to go for the worst. This is why I say I wish those in Zambia the best. We will continue with our business outside Zambia. Indeed good things don’t last. This is the end of the Mwanawasa legacy and a tandem of thieves have successfully come back to deprive mother Zambia of her resources in day light and everyone is singing songs of praises not knowing what they are going into. Best wishes to you guys in Zambia anyhow.

  35. # 36! its very rich of you to call my analysis foolish. Firsly, go to school, learn English then take 20 years to grow up and start reasoning well then come and put up an argument with me. Its no secret than between Magande and RB, magande has a more traceable track reccord in the party. RB might have credidible political record but his commitment to MMD as a party is difficult to judge seeing as he was in UNIP the time he was appointed VP. Thats why its gonna be naive of MMD to appoint him as their candidate.
Theres is a free lesson to kick-start your growing up process Mr HK. Meet you in 2028

  36. magande,HH will neva rule zambia in the soonest time not even 2011.zambias politics are about calculations and making timely decisions about your aspirations not sagwapo way uesd by these guys. HH is finished since his loss in 2006 he cant regain his populality infact he is not even willing to work with PF to leanr and gaet mileage. he over stretcges his populality. magande has hanged himself by hoodwinking LPMs Death with the post to make assertions that he was a prefered candidate. he should have come out as himself.
be tactical and pull the timely strings and moves then you will make it in zxambian politics. RP and Sata will battle. watching

  37. RB or Magande or Sonsashi-PF is taking over.

Say what you want, insult us a billion times, tell lies about us, we are taking over.

After elections in 2006, Sata said “this is a temporary setback”

Pa bwatoooo!!!!!!!!!!!! ifwe twakana……..indeke shabo abena Fred m`membe, magande & the nchito brothers, ubwato bwesu!!!!!!!!

  38. Magande and Siliya clash …Over Zambian Airways’ outstanding debt

    By Times Reporter

“There are so many other private airlines with similar problems and I don’t see what is special about Zambian Airways to seek political intervention in this matter,” Ms Siliya said

  39. #17 you are an embarrassment to the society and shame to the human race.what continuity are you talking about.continuity of fuel rise, continuity to poverty.do you know how many zambians live under a dollar a day, is that the continuity you want .peace and growth is in your pockets not to a common zambian who cant even have access to internet.

  40. ghato lets face it. tongas and lozis think they are the most supreme tribes in zambia. how can u entrust their man to lead us?if u dont agree luk at their pattern of voting in their areas. but u are a gud fellow we are on the same side.

  41. # 53, is there such a thing as dual political party membership in Zed because Hikaumba is UPND and if you remember very well was actually one of the names that were floated as likely Tonga-Bull to take over from Andy

  42. Today’s Post editorial…

The concessions they have sought from the government are what our government has given to others, especially foreign enterprises. It is madness for any sensible politician to think of fixing a company which employs over 200 people, a company of such a high value to other sectors of our economy and generating a turnover of over four million dollars a month simply because those connected with it, those who have invested in it, had vigorously opposed a particular presidential candidate.

Why don’t they use that 4 million per month turn over to pay National Airports.

  43. MMD is now lost & becoming undemocratic.Too many self centred fools trying to keep jobs by supporting a weak man Banda,i hope Magande doesn’t back out. Some of the same fools including a few relatives of Maureen are trying hard to convince her to stand for MMD Presidency & subsequently as national President, she has refused but they still keep trying, she’s at her weakest point & i hope she doesn’t give in to pressure.Mulongoti is becoming extra irritant, just the sight of him makes me sick & annoyed, wish i could slap some of these chaps,i hope Magande wins otherwise HH and Mutati are best suited to carry on where Levy left off,it’s sad Mutati is not standing.

  44. Fred M’membe is in fix. He can’t even support the opposition because HH and Sata and forging a pact and the Post has said they have nothing to do with Sata/PF ever again. Your empire is crumbling Fred, cause right now the Times of Zambia and even the government rag daily mail has better news than Post

  45. RB is popular in all the provinces he is therefore the right
candidate to represent MMD in the presidential by election.

  46. Finance Minister claims successor status
    By Times Reporter

FINANCE and National Planning Minister, Ng’andu Magande has said that he was chosen by the late President Levy Mwanawasa as his successor with the full knowledge of Cabinet.

Speaking in an interview in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Magande said it was regrettable that even Cabinet ministers who attended the meeting and knew about the late president’s will could not speak about it.

He challenged members of the Cabinet to reveal what transpired in the meeting when the president talked about the succession.

  47. The race has started. Those who thot they could reap were they did not sow will be exposed. The MMD is busy crying for continuity, so that when they get back they can implement the 2000% salary increaments. However the Zambian know who they are. Did you guys know that the cheap slogan of continuity is simply a cover for saving their jobs. I was doing a count of people that directly benit from the president for jobs. My count is over 250 people. The Ministers, PSs, DCs, Ambasodors and many others I have forgoten. So continuity is a cheap slogan. We need the MMD to take the Back bench and other to take the front seat. Sata and HH should share the Leadership between now and 2015.

  48. #51 I conquer with you! It pains me when I see the manner we conduct ourselves as Zambians. For sure even when we are able to c that we are heading for a bottomless ditch, we still have mediocre chaps within our midst saying “let’s go in, it’s a curve full of honey.” Can’t u c that we’re simply bringing back the thieves to take away what LPM built? Yet we blindly throw our weights behind them. SHAME! DO we know how long it takes to rebuild a nation and take it back to economic grades? This sort of mediocrity should be be condemned at all costs, but it’s a pity that only 1 or 2 voices seem to reason critically. Zambians wait and see where this will take YOU!

  49. Pipo lets just change the party not MMD why do we always want to use recycled leaders and old? Don’t you see why all these pipo are supporting RB? its for the security of thier jobs, continuation of their programs of enriching themselves not to work for the pipo as they pretend coz RB is like a PUPPET.

  50. Bloggs while we are debating here, Ci Teta, Ka Mulongoti are campaining with the grassroots and in the rural areas.

Don’t be surprised if the carry the day.

So start campaining at the right fora instead of crying here.

  51. #16 Agree with you! The opposition have a chance to turn the tables. To kick the MMD they should unite especially PF and UPND. If Magande is nominated HH should support Sata and if RB is nominated PF should support UPND and occupy VP post and vice -versa, respectively!!

  52. Seeing that MMD NEC is going to endorse RB and assuming RB is going to win Presidentail bye-elections, here is compromised option;

    RB – President
    Magande – Vice President
Sata – Min. without Potifolio (Still leader of PF)
HH – Min. Trade, Commerce and Industry (Still leader UNDP)
Maureen – Min. Community Developmt (glorified MMCI)

This model is transition GRZ towards 2011 general elections.

This will keep us united and focused on devlopmt.

  53. #41 you are spot on. who ever wins now, is most likely to win 2011 through hook and crook. The one thing that bogoles me is how some want to suport RB, yes its your right, but for real kele ba chembala,na ba kota, ba kalamba, i.e he’s old!

I think in zed we are in a confort zone that restricts us from being progeressive and objective, we need to get out of that paradgim

  54. Well we are in what is called a democracy. This is an intellectuals forum which does alot of articulation and plays lesser parts in the voting process. The carders form 75 percent of the voters and as we speak they are busy in their respective area’s buying voters cards including those for people who have passed on. Whilst we the interlectuals have only connect cards in our wallets we can not even remember where our voters cards are so lets try and put our money where our actions are. Over and above the will of the people will rule and its a two way race Sata or RB and in which ever way it goes Nchito brothers and Membe Chimbokaela or Kamwala Prisons.Imates kick their balls on arrival

  55. Just look at the analysis, just because RB is most likely candidate to stand ; we are seeing RB presido, you forgot there are opposition parties and even the former presido didnt win by a land slide it was aclose call, despite being manipulated. if RB is put there, the opposition has a greater chance of succeeding and MMD and their NEC are a negligible fraction of the electorate

  56. I have never heard RB articulate issues intellegently. So wat are you talking about. This has nothing to do with tribe….get a life people. Are you not shoked that all old crooks have gunged up to support dullness? Don’t be one Pleeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzze.

  57. #33 pls spare us some peace.Ba Sata na bakota, he is sick, least educated among the candidates, dictator who failed to call for a convention in 8 years of his party (pf). Why did you go to school if you can honor education. Lets go for visionary leadership of the new generation. HH is the only hope for Zambia. RB is equally old and unipist. Who needs humanism now? The RB’s sekeletons are right on the wall? What do you know about defanct Namboard?

  58. hey!!the buggers at MICC(cadres)very drunk and dirty looking…am sure they just show what kind of claibre RB and his minions have!not a pleasant sight of them at all!

  59. The post has clearly gotten it wrong this time around. RB the seasoned economist turned diplomat and politician former difacto president of namibia under UN is now beating Membe at his own game. Magande defears Zamibian airways payments to National airports for two years. Membe, magande, moureen and the nchito brothers all have shares in Zambian airways is this a coincidence!!! VIVA RB leaders are chosen by God from amoung goatherders and sherpards from farm. YOU NEVER FIND THE HOLLY GRAIL, THE HOLLY GRAIL FINDS YOU!!!!

  60. honestly, RB is UNIP, we all know that, so what are his ideals, aspirations…his time is gone, do you want another heaven on earth cult?..or and that leader….yamuyayaya lesa pale..look at that party now, its a mess becuse they never wanted to face reality that times have changed, we are no longer in the struggle for independence, humanism ideals just dont cut it, same place diferrent time,

  61. i cant wait for this circus called “NEC meeting” to come to an end so that we can know which chap will potentially not be going to state house on the MMD ticket…

  62. HH is better suited 4 the task at hand.We need fresh blood with 21 century style of doing things,in touch with all the technological tools of this modern age, with an appreciation of what modern Zambia needs & requires.Yes we need to embrace the elderly but again, it would be great to have some fresh blood as president!!!

  63. Crooks are back indeed and this time more vicious plz zambians open your eyes the support for RB is not in good faith by the so called retired politicians.

  64. Fellow bloggs, can I be dated on Mr RBs morality. surely is that the real wife or granddaughter who MMD wants to make the 1st lady ? MMD wants him wat about the nation? Awe Kacepesha Help Please

  65. Did you know that RBs MMD card is less than 2 years. Did you also know that RBs mother is Zimbabwean. These two disqualify him from being both president of Zambia and the MMD. I dont know about how it plays on his acting.

  66. The mmd are in a fix, no wonder they took LPM’s body around the country to help them campaign. Zambia is not short of leaders and we cant’ depend on mmd for ever, they had 17years in govt already, let us support the opposition, we need change. After all the manifestos for mmd, upnd & pf are almost the same, they only change the terms but mean the same thing eg. free education, poverty, health, employment etc. Lets find a better man to deliver these from upnd or pf!!!

  67. In 2006 when the cobra was robbed of plot 1 he did not go to the street like in kenya, he said” i’l be back”. this is the character of a person we need at state house. ba muntu pa bwato!

  68. THIS IS ENTERESTING GUYS. PLEASE LET US MOVE FAST CAUSE WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME. WE ARE NOW GETTING INTO THE FARMING SEASON AND WE NEED SOMEONE WHO WILL MAKE DECISION ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF FERTILISER. BY THE WAY WE DO NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT STOCKS AND EVERYONE NOW IS BUSY WITH THE BY – ELECTION, PLEASE CAN SOMEONE IN CHARGE NOW ADVISE US BECAUSE THE NEXT PRESIDENT WILL FIND IT DIFFICULT TO GOVERN HUNGRY PEOPLE.

GREAT ZAMBIANS YOU ARE BELIEVED TO BE PEOPLE WHO DEBATE AND ANALYSE ISSUES WISELY IT IS MY WISH THAT WE ALLOW GOD’S GUIDANCE AND LET US NOT ALLOW OUR EMOTIONS TO TAKE CONTROL OTHER WE WILL REGRET.

CHEERS FELLOW ZAMBIANS. ZAMBIA CHALO CHESU AND CONTINUE CONTRIBUTING ON THIS

  69. LT can you please circulate these issues in the streets of Lusaka, there are some ignorant people who could benefit ferom the bloggers pls.No everyone has access to internet pa zed muziba!

We might be discussing these issues and very few the bloggers will not even vote somehow.

    Lets be realistic please.

  70. lusaka Times, I lost my blog, if yu are serious please put it back. I dont like deealing with websites that lowork like Kamuchkas or FBI!!

  71. But only 55 NEC members were to cast votes. No president, No Vice president and one chap missing. How can it is 58 (47+110). Correct me please….

  72. I am tired of all this anxiety about the successor of LPM. I trust our constitution. My last hope is that whe ever wins will have the majority support of zambians. Iam sick of this RB stuff. If he wins, it means the majority of Zambians nivi fontiini!! I know we are above that.

I wish there could be a deliberate campaign by NGOS urging Zambians to vote wisely as leadership at this crucial time need not tired politicians but energetic and relatively young people with sound judgement and uncorrupted minds. Just looking at RB he is a tired and dull person Look at his cohorts, Mwangas and Chitalas, finished politicians! I feel like puking!! My foot!!

  73. Shame to you magande…

The Post here comes RB for you, whether you like it or not, if MMD wins the elections, he will be your president and we will see who will call him a Judas Iscariot.

Fred, the fire is coming towards you right now. Moto moto, Chimbiriri…

  74. #100 and 105,

    Read this,

The MMD national executive committee (NEC) comprises 58 members who are either elected at the party’s national convention or nominated to the policy making body.

Currently only 55 members would meet today to select a candidate because three positions of president, vice president and one member are vacant

  75. #103

    Mudslide if you want.

The point is we are in a strange place right now. Also sorry about THE PAST newspaper, fighting a losing game like that.

    Is PF coming or what?

  76. Lupiya has won! Mwaona,VJ IS BACK AND WE ALL NOW NO THE RESULT.

We need change please lets keep our heads together.

    Pa bwato!

  77. Post, I believe this is the part where you swallow your pride or is it your V-O-M-I-T !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hahahahaha Guess who has the loudest laugh right now and at who…

He who laughs last laughs long! Hurray RB.

  78. I agree with # 17. Let us give RB a chance and not demonise him. The same Levy who is an Angel today was demonised when Chiluba hand-picked him. people even went to the extent of calling him a ‘cabbage’. But Levy has proved his critics wrong because of what he stood for. So let’s not be prejudiced about RB. Don’t forget that the same Post criticised Levy when he was hand-picked by FTJ.

    RB looks credible to me…

  79. My ear to the ground, says the PF and SATA come alight this weekend. RB is indeed the best candidate to bury the MMD once and for good. He was and is still part of the swindling of the Zambian TAX payers money through the now not so famous 2000% salary increments for constitutional officers. His having allowed it to get to parliament speaks volumes of the strength of the man’s spine. However to bury the MMD and the wild packs ( in the names of Mulonoti, Shakas, Mpombo, Musosha and others ) HH and SATA should enter into an agreement. I suggest the pact that allows SATA for the 1st 3 years and HH for the remaining 10 years.

  80. Its a pity the way politics are conducted in this country.

This vindictiveness and vengeance and hatred will not take us anywhere. Now the independent press has joined in! where are we going honestly Zambia. everyone itching to fix the next person! Shame.

Now people like Christon Tembo and friends are saying ‘ we are back!!’

Is this what we need. When are we ever going to learn some decency??

  81. I’m not sure if anyone is suprised by the result. The writing was on the wall even before one vote was counted.

Seriously RB will present a serious challenge for Sata and HH. Esp if you consider country-wide marathon LPM body viewing…

The body-viwing gave MMD a ‘head start’ That’s why Sata wanted to follow the body..

I will support RB upto 2011. After that we need young, innovative and energetic Presido.

  82. Those za yellow cadres dancing and singing at mulungushi are drunk, they will be slaughtered before they return to their undeveloped provinces. i saw then on tele yesterday, kwati ni ba kasai.

  83. If RB got 47 isnt that more than the number of NEC members considering that president and vice president where not there on the list Sondashi 0
    Mumba 0
    Kavi 0
    Shikap 1
    Kopulande 1
    magande 11
    RB

  84. Ba Fred Membe mwaloba ilyauma
how dare you try to fool us with your crooked Magande and Maureen. ala mwlachimona bane utuma company twenu twalawa. Fred what principles do you HAVE IF I MAY ASK? Nil i guess coz niwe muselela kwakaba. dont worry its SATA COMING TO KICK YOUR A——

  85. We all knew the writing was on the was.RB..RB..RB..but ladies and gentlemen lets face facts,RB’s got no grip over these fellows in MMD.

I have a strong feeling they will twist him around,I mean if he is surrounded by crooks what do you expect…

  86. Chifundo ba post, mwanyela mu manzi now you have to drink it. next time if u ‘ll stil be around for long use professionalism not emotions. the MMD NEC vote results don’t suprise me even a little bit. i can almost tell the news headline day after presidencial by-election. good luck zambia

  87. saiko mata doesnt stand a chance with RB, just let RB continue with the policies of cabbage….i mean it does not make sense for sata to take over or win these elections and rule for 3 yrs…wat is he gonna do in those yrs to change the policies of levy and implement his policises…let saiko wait for 2011 and we will vote for him then…as for magande ,he must go 2 hell…

  88. With so much said can someone give us a detailed analysis of RB and the other candidates from other partys are we having independents. I have a feeling RB will not be a voting target for MMD they will use the party name to win the elections let the oposition use their heads and when facing this election

  89. #140 ur sayin we let rupiah rule for 3 yrz.thts an insult imwe.3 yrz is lng time, lok at th untd states presidntial term is 4 yrz,so even tht 3 yrz th oposition zambia cn do alot.so MMD kuya, unles u wnt to c abena vj bak n govt.we must al vote wisely pliz mwebantu.

  90. RB was a diplomat by training and has served in high positions meeeting Heads of State. He was Ambassador to Egypt and also served as Permanant Representative to the United Nstions. The Guy is connected and has met various Heads of State.

So Fred Mmembe is a lunatic to say that RB was a not a heavyweight before Levy picked him. Atleast he is better than Lupando or the corrupt Kavindele’s whose only interestis woodgate holding and producing the likes of Samukonga who main pre occupation is to impregnate the cherises of this world. Abash vuka vuka ba mwine

  91. LUSAKA, Sept 5 (Reuters) – Zambia’s ruling MMD party chose the country’s Vice President Rupiah Banda as its candidate for a presidential election due in November, a party official said on Friday.

Banda pledged to continue with the policies of President Levy Mwanawasa — who died last month — if he was elected Zambia’s president.

“I want to work with all my comrades in order to unite the party and the country and keep on with our policies,” Banda said. (Reporting by Shapi Shacinda)

  92. So even Magande is an outsider in MMD. He was the late Mazokas financial advisor which i think is that party called UPND. So ninshi Mudala Aluza tu ma 30million

  93. you can call rb names, but he will rule. Pliz accept it guys or you will die from unnecessary heart attack. Mind you, God appoints leaders. chao!

  94. MMD has no money for campaign. So NEC will definately choose RB so that he can use state resources.

Maureen you should not have taken a position. You are an embassment to yourself coz secret ballot will prevail during NEC selection process and RB will pull thru.

Will you and your fontini M’membe look him in the eye? The Post has disgraced themselves. You are truly malicious and broke and you want Magande to give you favours. NOOOOOOOOOOOO and Shame!!!!

  95. Magande said he supported Banda for president.

“I accept the defeat because this is democracy. … I will campaign for him in my constituency,” Magande told Reuters.

The divisions within the ruling party could cost the ruling party ground to main opposition leader Michael Sata — who narrowly lost to Mwanawasa in 2006 presidential polls — particularly if infighting gets worse.

  96. My Post online subscription expires in Dec, I will nor renew, going forward I will get my news updates from LT, Times of Zambia, Daily Mail online editions FREE of charge!

  97. No more wasting my hard earned cash on a shady publication like the Post, Mmembe, you’ve shown us you’re just a snake in sheep’s wool…

  98. I would rather demonize RB so that in working hard to prove most critics wrong, he will be developing the country if he wins. Just like Levy once said..’ today you are calling me cabbage one day i will be steak’ and for sure he had became steak..

  99. …but ba Post will undress his government. They will be saying didn’t we tell you? How i wish RB if he wins would do away with the VJs’ and Kateles’…

  100. #163 Arsenal FC. Who cares if yu renew or not!! Yu are justlike a small drop of water in the Ocean!! Stop thinkig with ur feet!!

  101. #167 Koyatinini, and your point is? thinking with my feet?? wow, that’s a new one, is that something you’ve picked up from ‘down under’?

  102. LT, interesting that you’re now showing the countries where bloggers are located. What next? will you be showing our IP addresses as well? Thought the whole lure of blogging was the anonymous freedom of expression? Just my personal view, what do others think?? That said, interesting to note the diversity of Zedians in the diaspora (from Israel to Sweden to UAE!)
