Mumbi Phiri is not being held in detention in an improper fashion-Justice Minister

Share

It’s not right for anyone to suggest that Mumbi Phiri is being held in detention in an improper fashion, Justice Minister Mulambo Haimbe has said in an interview in Livingstone.

Mr Haimbe has explained that for anyone who is facing a non bailable offence to appear before the High Court, there is a process that is followed called “Cause Listing.”’

He said that in cause listing, it is always about first in first out, that in the case of Ms Phiri, there are many other people facing similar offences.

Mr Haimbe said it is a misconception for people to think that Ms Phiri must be given special treatment.

“There is also misconception about one particular individual which I need to address, a political party leader in the name of Mumbi Phiri. I know that there has been a lot of talk that she is being held without trial but the truth of the matter is that she is facing a non bailable offence and so many people are facing non bailable offences that are pending trial,” he said.

“So it is not correct to say that she is being held in an improper fashion but it is simply because of the nature of the offence she is facing,” he said.

Mr Haimbe also disclosed that progress has been made towards the amendment of the Public Order Act (POA).

He said that cabinet gave an approval in principle for the amendment of the POA and it is being run by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security being the line ministry that is in charge of matters related to the Public Order Act.

Mr Haimbe said progress has been made and he is hopeful that it’ll be before Parliament during the September session.

  2. This f00Iish boy should remember that hh won’t shield him in 2026 when we regain power. The boy is out of touch. Better not to comment if you have no idea what you talking about.

I visited our mother mumbi and I wasn’t allowed to see her. She is been mistreated and tortured. Evil hh will not last long with this behaviour. I curse him

  5. MURDER IS NON BAILABLE.
Majority of the Magistrates and Judges were appointed during the PF era.
If they are slow, thats not the UPND’s problem

  6. Hakainda Hichilema wasn’t given any preferential treatment when Edgar China Lungu threw him in jail FIFTEEN TIMES, so why should Mumbi Phiri jump the queue?

    • She called for HH to be charged with treason. Were you too busy drinking State House whisky to remember?

    • She was also instrumental in having mwaliteta locked up for one year for the city airport incident where she was a witness ………..

Apart from that mumbi phiri instructed the guy to shoot ……..

She then coached him what to say and what not to say…….all on camera.

    • Even a kaponya can call for your arrest, does not mean they have the power to do so. You upnd members are very dull.

  7. Mulambo Haimbe is a perfect example of an educated f00l. One day this cause listing will catch up with him

    • @Deja Vu we have no choice. The entire political trade is full of garbage. Show me one noble politician and I will show you Paradise

  9. If what the minister is saying is true then the constitution is flawed. You cant be detained because you re a suspect. That is unjust. she is facing a non bailable offence doesnt mean she is convicted of the offence. I thought we left such unjust clauses in our second republic constitution!

    • The minister is in a hurry to absolve government and as a result has forgotten to cover certain tracks like you have posed.

  10. Despite having a Law degree, Haimbe is the worst Minister of Justice since 1964. His behaviour will not derail us into believing that his ethnic group are bad. We insist that 99% of people in Southern province are good and descent. Currently UPND is defined by the membership of HH, Mwiimbu, Mweetewa, Nkombo, Sejani, Haimbe etc from the plateau. People of the Zambezi Valley (the Siajunzas, Siamuntus), and the rest of Zambia are used as mere appendages to UPND’s misrule. The strategy is to use the Chirwas in DEC, the Phiris in ACC, the Kajobas in Police to execute dirty errands so as to shield Tongas from possible blames of human torture likely to arise after 2026.

  11. Despite having a Law degree, Haimbe is the worst Minister of Justice since 1964. He is not an intellectual. His behaviour will not make us into believing that his ethnic group are primitive. We insist that 99% of people in Southern province are as good and descent as all Zambians in other provinces. But UPND is defined by the membership of Southerners from the plateau. People of the Zambezi Valley (the Siajunzas, Siamuntus), and the rest of Zambia are used as mere appendages to UPND’s governance. The strategy is to use non-Tongas to execute dirty errands of human torture so as to shield the UPND’s inter-circle.
