President HH accused of vote buying in Kabushi ahead of crucial by election

Share

Information has emerged that President Hakainde Hichilema gave K10,000 to a family in Ndola’s Kabushi Constituency on Saturday, with only a few days before Thursday’s by election.

During his door to door campaigns, President Hichilema is also accused of dishing out K300 and bags of mealie meal to every household he visits.

President Hichilema is making the donations in the company of UPND’s candidate in the Kabushi by election Bernard Kanengo.

One of the receipients of the cash donation, Nyuma Ngoma who is a Deacon at Reformed Church in Zambia in Kariba area in Mukuba ward in Kabushi Constituency confirmed receiving K10,000 from President Hichilema when he visited his home on Saturday.

Mr Ngoma whose wife had recently delivered triplets said the money will be used to take cafe of the three babies.

He said he is thankful to President Hichilema for the gesture.

“It was particularly fulfilling to sit with some households and share the daily experiences by our citizens. Sat with a family that God Almighty has blessed with triplets. We committed that with my wife Mutinta, we will support the family in addition to the government support in form of free education among other challenges,” Mr Hichilema confirmed in a Facebook post.

But the opposition PF has described the action by President Hichilema as a violation of the Electoral Code of Conduct as it appoints to vote buying.

PF Copperbelt Provincial Chairman Bernard Chitondo has since challenged the Anti Corruption Commission to summon President Hichilema for questioning over the blatant violation of the Electoral Process Act.

“We have a President here who is flouting the law with inpunity and we want Musa Mwenye to tell his officers to act. There is an election in a few days and this President is bribing people broad day light,” Mr. Chitondo said.

On Thursday, people of Kabushi, Kwacha and Luangwa are expected to go to the polls to elect their MPS and Council Chairperson respectively.

  1. HH is the worst dictator Zambia has. After insuring that Lusambo and Malanji do not stand, he has gone flat out bribing voters in the area. Why is he so serious in getting these constituencies? Is he looking for numbers in parliament so that he can use them to remove Lungu’s immunity. Lumbani madoda, have you seen how corrupt you demigod is?

  5. Is this not the same offense Lusambo was summoned for by ACC just a few days ago? I read somewhere ‘No one is above the law’’

    • The president is above the law. Essentially, immunity of a president makes him above the law.
A president in Zambia can shoot someone and not be arrested. They however have enough common sense not to do that but they will engage in corruption like giving monies during elections and the matters die a natural death. We have seen this being done by MMD, PF (with a video of frmr V president giving cash to women during elections). And now HH.
I advocate for a law banning president and cabinet from campaigning.

  6. This is sad for the democracy.Bamudala is not honest.I now believe that this man can be a dictator .He wants those seats at all costs. You can’t rule a country like that. This can’t leave even state house when he is defeated.I see serious issues. The church should come out and comdem HH before he puts Zambia in problems. The court also should not entartain his dictatorial behaviour.

    • @Sondashi, LOL. One good thing about his staying at Community House.
Although, we have to worry about confidential state documents staying in a private residence after HH leaves office (whenever that will be).

  7. GRZ needs strong province rights.

“Under the Constitution, the state legislatures retain much of their sovereignty to pass laws as they see fit, but the federal government also has the power to intervene when it suits the national interest. And under the “supremacy clause” found in Article VI, federal laws and statutes supersede state law”

  9. “During his door to door campaigns, President Hichilema is also accused of dishing out K300 and bags of mealie meal to every household he visits.” You expect us to believe that no one from the opposition or the community would have captured this on video? LT is this your work or are you just reproducing rubbish without bothering to fact check?

  10. Ine, I have PF chitenges and T shirts given to me by PF door to door foot soldiers before both elections. I could not eat those things. At least this family will be able to feed their triplets for a few days.
Talk of decency, Ba PF just keep quiet. You were worse.

  11. Now HH is affirming to all Zambians that he doesn’t believe in democracy. He believes in corrupt votebuying. If he was convinced his party policy is appealing to Zambians why would he bring a sack of money to Kabushi instead of bringing the UPND manifesto? So whatever the means the Upnd has to be in office even if People have to be bought? What a rotten nation we have become! The tragedy is we think this is normal.

    • What vote buying? He gave that family to support heir triplets. That man who is quoted as having bragged that HH gave him K10, 000 is ungrateful. He openly asked for a driving job to enable him look after his family. Besides how many households received the 10 pins.

    • If you think you are defending your idol president you are actually doing a dumb job. It would be better if you just refrained because you are very illogical

  12. Cry babies, crying even before their big loss in Kabushi. Store enough tears, remember you have to shed some more in 2026 more than the August 12 ones. And your votes are even split further now with directionless KBF entering the fray, if you were getting 4 votes in the last elections, I think it will reduce to 1 vote, if you were getting zeroes like ST, zeroes will most likely move to zero point zero

  13. We told you this guy will cause problems when he loses in 2026…HH is a demagogue Presindent….Now using IMF money to buy votes kikikikiki AFarican leaders they never learn….shiiit is about to hit the ceiling

  14. Power is sweet….HH has now tasted power and expect this demagogue President to try and cling to Power after 2026….now he is doing exactly what he used to complain about when he was in opposition,,,,corruption and vote buying

  15. Spaka am typing in a hurry i have to go to the Airport and pick up clients from Central Africa Republic…part of the advance entourage coming for UN General Assembly….you know driving UBER is not easy…..will respond to you later
