ECZ approves EIA for 12 projects

The Environmental Council of Zambia, ECZ, has approved 12 projects that include the proposed establishment of a 33KV electricity line at
Munali Hills Nickel Mine in Mazabuka district.

This is in accordance with the Environmental Protection and Pollution Control Act Cap 204 of the Laws of Zambia Regulation 3, 1, of the Environmental Impact
Assessment, EIA, Regulations, Statutory Instrument No. 28 of 1997.

ECZ Senior Communications Officer, Justin Mukosa, announced this in a statement to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

The other approved EIA include for that for the development of of the Mwambashi Copper Deposit in Chingola, Diatomite Mine in Mongu, Katanga Resources Large Scale
Prospecting, construction of a Waste Rock Crusher Plant in Kitwe and the Construction of a 33KV Power Line for the Electrification of Zambezi  Portland
Cement. 

Others include Development of Information Technology Project for the Provision of Broadband Data Communications, the Mkushi Extension (Mtunga) located near the Old

Mr. Mukosa said Council further urges the developers to ensure that all proposed mitigation measures outlined in their Environmental Impact Assessment Reports must
be implemented.
