Only conclusion of the tendering procedures is delaying the tarring of the 1-hundred billion kwacha pedicle road.
The 70 kilometer stretch from Mokambo on the Zambian side from Mufulira passes through the DR Congo to levy Mwanawasa Bridge in Chembe on the Zambian side in Luapula province.
Government is ready with funding and will soon release the money to kick start the project.
Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane says work will start this immediately after procedures are have been concluded.
Dr Musokotwane also says the DRC government is very cooperative and supportive on the project.
He says last year he traveled to the DRC with former Works and Supply Minister Mike Mulongoti to discuss with that government on how best the road network should be undertaken.
The Minister says the results of the negotiations with the DRC were very positive.
The Pedicle road is part of the road network which is earmarked to connect Copperbelt Province with Nakonde through Luapula Province.
Dr. Musokotwane was speaking when he met Chief Kashiba of the Lunda people of Mwense district.
He is accompanied by his two counterparts Maxwell Mwale for Mines and Catherine Namugala from Tourism.
The tarring of the Pedicle road will now be another milestone project following the completion of the K46-billlion kwacha Levy Mwanawasa Bridge across the Luapula River at Chembe in 2008.

I don’t stop wondering how Zambia will look like with all the projects starting But remain unfinished. We pray and hope that many projects get finished before the elections and will not leave a huge debt on our national.
He (stumbeko) is tellin a fib!! Election year and projects galore……..
Can we hold these elections every year?
“He says last year he traveled to the DRC with former Works and Supply Minister Mike Mulongoti to discuss with that government on how best the road network should be undertaken.”…. This started a long time and i wonder why you guys think that this is done because we have elections this year. You cant pause developmental programs just because we have election. But i know that in your PF mind, this is wrong.
Keep up with the good job GRZ
I bet you they didn’t even read the article. Just saw the title and rushed to post a comment.
Mish Mash of shams and lies from a pack of desperados
Shi mwebo lesheni ifip.u.b.a. ifi fikatusha munkongole!!! I don’t think it is right what these guys are doing, digging holes and putting up spikes just to show there is progress. Where were they all these years? Where have they been since last election year??? Why are we still pulling these 18th Century stunts on an otherwise literate populace and electorate? Please voters do the right thing and vote out these once-in-5-years actors! We are tired.
There is of in zambia, i wonder why the majority of citizens are sufering.Njala ibanyokola koma ndalama ni mbwe!
Mashimba @#4, please be careful. Some of us ‘ancient’ enough to remember know that it has been a perennial promise to tar that road even before KK left. This is the story of the boy who cried lion. We cannot believe last year’s foray when there has been last decades’ foray. If you read into history you must know why people think it is an election ploy. Please!!!!
#7 i ment “There is a lot of money in Zambia”
Just watch. When they (MMD) lose elections the funding will either be stolen, or will be diverted to 90-day exercises by the new government. Which means the tarring will then be left for the next election season a la Zambian style!!! It is not even funny…
its hard to believe these projects are not triggered by the fact that this is an election year. All the sudden roads are being tared everwhere.sponsoreship from MOH has resumed.Students have recieved 50% busury increament etc
This Chap Musokotwane is not a politician
Toomuch of anything within short time is bad. We know its an erection year but come on guys lets get realistic on all these insurmountable projects MMD is coming up with, are they really realistical devepmental projects or are they really a solution to our poverty in Zambia? of course not, just for campaign strategy, we know its an erection year, but lets be real.
how much is the government of Kabila going to contribute to this project? -zero! I have traveled on that road several times and i see the congolese using it as well. for security reasons the government of DRC will close the pedicle road after it is tarred. our millions of kwachas will be lost. Iwe musokotwane use that money to build a university in Luapula province.
Zambia should introduce toll gates asap in areas where heavy trucks carrying minerals pass. This will generate alot of capital to maintain the roads and pay back loans. If the Congolese are going to be using this new road they need to pay something substantial towards it. Congo is a rich country and can afford it.
#13 IS VERY RIGHT!!! FOR AS LONG AS THE DRC GOVT DOES’T contribute to the project, IT IS A S.T.U.P.i.D idea for you can’t wholly fund a project in a FOREIGN COUNTRY, unless you intend to donate or you are giving them aid!! The Congolese as always will set up roadblocks every few Kms & CHARGE US FOR USING THE TARMAC ROAD, a road that we will have already paid for!!! THAT’s THE REASON WHY THE ALTERNATE ROAD VIA SERENJE Was built, becoz poilitics will never secure a guarantee, that having spent the money, DRC won’t turn round, Close the border, or charge us for our own road!!! THE BEST IDEA IS TO CONTINUE GRADING IT TILL DRC OFFERS TO PART FUND IT. So RBish & co stop wasting our money, RATHER STOP STEALING IT!!!!!
Development to fostered in zambia if we have elections every year.
@ # 3 i agree elections should be held every year.off course Sata should be the contender each year. Zambia will surpass Singapore in development
I AM APPEALING TO MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN LUAPULA PROVINCE NOT TO LISTEN TO SUCH PROMISES. ONLY AN ***** CAN BE FOOLED BY SITUMBEKO. THOSE OF US WHO HAVE BEEN OLD ENOUGH, WE CAN NOT BUY SUCH CHEAP POLITICS. KK DID THAT, CHILUBA DID THAT AND RUPIYA WANT TO DO THAT.
THE OTHER THING IS , DON’T LISTEN TO THOSE LUAPULA CHIEFS WHO ARE BEGGARS, AND DON’T KNOW ANYTHING. ALL WHAT THEY KNOW IS TO DO SILLY STUFF OF SUPPORTING RUPIYA. WE NEED CHIEFS LIKE MWATA KAZEMBE, WHO CANNOT BE BOUGHT NOR SOLD.
The Only reason people think the Governement performs during election year is the Opposition Parties fault for not Riding them hard every other time and only make noise about projects and and other country needs during election years!
In everyother developed country all Opposition Parties are busy pushing the present day government 24hrs a Day 365 days a Year, to keep them on their Toes (which is the opposition parties Job anyway) not only at election time as we do pa Zed, then complain if the present government is not doing much until election time.
Get up to speed.
Under Mobutu, governance deteriorated and corruption flourished in Zaire, and he saw Katanga only as a cash cow and punished it for its separatist tendencies by neglecting its development. Zairean border officials and police went for months without being paid and turned to petty corruption to survive. At first small bribes were taken from Zambians whose identity cards were not in order, but this escalated to arbitrary fines, for example, a driver might be fined for wearing a hat while his passenger was fined for not wearing a hat
The Pedicle became the major gripe for the people of Luapula Province and they assailed their leaders and officials when they toured the province, such as in a meeting of civil servants in Mansa in 1975 with President Kenneth Kaunda,
The Pedicle became the major gripe for the people of Luapula Province and they assailed their leaders and officials when they toured the province, such as in a meeting of civil servants in Mansa in 1975 with President Kenneth Kaunda, when most of the questions were about harassment at the Pedicle.
The situation became more severe when any of Mobutu’s security forces were in the Pedicle, with robberies, violence and occasionally the complete disappearance of travellers and their vehicles. THIS CAN HAPPEN AGAIN. ALREADY THERE ARE RIOTS IN KINSHASA AGAINST KABILA. SPENDING MONEY ON A FIXED ASSET IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY JUST TO GET VOTES IS UNWISE. WHAT ABOUT CHIPATA, HOW FAR IS IT FROM CB? USE SERENJE ROAD CHAPWA. YOU WILL GET ZERO FROM MY HOUSE
16 kanitundila – I wish I had seen your posting other wise I was not going to do 21 and 22
If katumbi and his millions will not spend a kobo, then pa zambia ubusushi is daily food starting from the head to the dust of the feet
