Share

Fighton Simukonda has made it two-out-of-two awards for the 2010 season after receiving the KCM Coach of the year accolade.

Simukonda added the KCM award to his collection this season after winning the 2010 Barclays Cup award that he was awarded in June.

This was Simukonda’s second KCM coach of the year award after winning it with Zesco in 2009.

And he was also not the only Zesco notable to be honored at football House today with goalkeeper Jacob Banda taking home the Best player of the year award, the first time a goalkeeper has won it under KCM sponsorship.

Zesco collected a K100 million cheque from KCM for winning the 2010 league title.

Meanwhile, the best young player of the year award went to Nchanga Rangers striker Lewis Macha while Dube Phiri of Red Arrows has won the top scorers award.

  1. I agree with you #1 Irrational man. this guy has been scoring goals for Red Arrows. I remember him scoring a goal each with the late Nsofwa ‘Milla’ Chaswe in Zambia’s 2-0 bashing of Angola in the COSAFA about 5-7 yrs ago. He really feel he deserves a call-up. I hope Bonetti is closely watching him.

  2. Please keep on raising the bar ba fighton. Put the hard times (like what we went through at Stylish Roan) behind you and nurture our young men to get to European football. Greetings from Manchester.

  3. I first saw Fighton play for Kasompe primary school, Chikola Secondary School and then Mimbula diggers before moving to KBDavies then Division2 side. It was from there that the late Abraham Mokola poached him at mid-night with his other club mate the late Boniface “Killer” Chanda for newly promoted Division1 side Vitafom United of Ndola before he moved to Nkana kitwe. That was in 1979. By then that was when i was completing my grade7 at Maiteneke Primary school. He was a great defender. Fighton grew up in Chiwempala-Maiteneke area. George Lwandamina also grew up in Maiteneke Chingola. I still remember those good old days when the price of supaloaf bread was 7ngwe and fresh milk 3ngwee.This was Zambia then!!!

  4. YES i totally agree with you Charles. I was also in Chingola but i was living in the remote area known as Kwa Lungubi near Bwana Hat where my uncle was working as a farm labourer.

  5. I also remember my heydays playing football with my school mates such as Charles Wakota, Anderson Banda, Emmanuel Chinzewe and others during 1982 to 1986 at Samfya Secondary School. This was wonderful……………..!!! We competed for Kapapula inter-provincial cup. I remember Francis Mukuka from Malole Sec School. Anderson after school played for Mufulira wanderers and Francis Mukuka Zanaco.

  6. #8 Chimumbwa “chiwelewele” Charles. Thats good info about Fighton Simukonda. He was a good defender but not great as you put it. However, many average players have come out to be great coaches like Wedson Nyirenda, George Lwandamina, Kenneth “bubble” Malitoli to mention but a few.

  7. It’s been a long time since theze once famous then Rothmans Sports Awards were done. Congratulationz to all the award winnerz and keep up the momentum to give inspiration to otherz.#8 Nice reflection of the yearz gone by. I admire some European footbo analysts who will even tell you the 1000th goal of the EPL. Simataa Simataa haz very rich knowledge about history of Zambian futbo and would urge him to work with mudala Dennis Liwewe to put to paper some of that for future.

  8. I will make sure i bewitch Sata bcos i can see that my dirty propaganda on him is not working.I really feel bad………..!!!

  9. N# 15, I feel it cannot be so fair to compare Keneth Bubble Malitoli with the likes of Wedson and Fighton on the pitch and by this argument, I mean what Bubble did for Zambia on the pitch is way too much to compare with the other two. Therefore Bubble cannot be classified as an average player as you have done. Meanwhile on the coaching part, yes I agree because this is the part where we now see the two gentle men coming in as great soccer heroes.

  10. #22 Secretrival. I somehow agree with you on the part of Bubble Malitoli. Yes he did score a lot of goals mostly for Nkana but not so many for the National Team. He only got to play regulary for chipolopolo after the Gabon Air disaster. He never had a chance to play with the likes of Stone Nyirenda, Boniface ‘Killer’ Chanda, Kelvin ‘malaza’ Mutale, Webister Chikabala available. Its from such a history that I rate him as an average player, though he matured towards the end of his career. I remeber him scoring a goal against Mali in the 1/4 finals of the 1994 CAN.
