The Lusaka international airport at night

An underground 11-KV power line which supplies electricity to the Lusaka International Airport has been cut off and stolen.

The 47-meters of three core-cables was stolen Wednesday night at about 23 hours on Airport road.

ZESCO Limited Public Relations Manager Andre Makulu who inspected the site where the cables have been cut-off says the Airport has since been put on alternative power supply.

Mr. Makalu told ZNBC News that it is unfortunate that people could steal power cables which supply electricity to a security installation.

Mr. Makulu urged the public to report any person found stealing or vandalising ZESCO installations.

  1. ba PF hahahahha..careful with these chaps after they lose elections..may jst do that to ECZ n plot 1..

  2. Ya this is a middle income country thanks to MMD “good policies” so why are people stealing power cables?

    • In the developed world you find worse petty thieves….its not the economy that makes people steal, some are inherently thieves, rich or poor- kleptomania.

  3. This is all because of high poverty levels and unemployment people are now even risking their lives…stealing 11KV powerline cable it’s incredible!!!! “Njala yamunyokola”

  4. Just shows how vulnerable ZESCO installations are. ZESCO must wake from sleep and think of innovatove/intelligent measures of securing and monitoring of their installations. As a company it has more serious challenges to address.

  5. What do you expect with high levels of poverty in the country. Maybe James Banda took it to supply companies in South Africa.

  6. the so called interntiona Airport it simply means that the Airport does not have national security please boma work up and depoly millitary police not G4,or who ever, lets b serious zambia,

  7. It appears crime is imprinted into the DNA of Zambians. Everyone for himself, starting with the President right down to a the common man. The government breaks laws. Therefore citizens are not scared of the law.

  8. I hear RB is in Livingstone giving out houses to sitting Tenants. Leaks-in say the next one is state house. it will be offered for sale to the sitting tenant!!!

  9. MMD have denied any involvement, the incident has caused two MPs to deflect to PF. Watch this space for further developments.

  10. Rupiah will not announce election date until he has given out all the free things he has to garner him more votes, this is the most undemocratic thing a leader can do…

  17. with the characters currently congregated in “some sections of the political arena” and “some sections of the media”, the idea of such an act is not far fetched. they don’t appreciate public property or safety as long as they drunkenly think that it can take them to state house.

  18. That should have been a “VERY SMALL CABLE” carrying something like “2 Volts”. Explains why they weren’t electrocuted!!

  19. Zesco’s Inside job no doutbted ..because 11000v cable is not a jock. That near to sabotage evn terrorism. Are we &senstive instalsion.? Bad move. MMD 0 vs PF 2.
