President Rupiah Banda will on Thursday officiate at the ground breaking ceremony of the US $400m cement plant by Dangote group of Nigeria on the Copperbelt.

The New cement factory by Dangote Industries in Ndola Rural will create one thousand direct jobs and 6 000 indirect jobs once completed.

The plant will also produce one point five metric tonnes of cement.

The President says he is happy to officiate at the ceremony as it shows that his international trips to attract investors are bearing fruit.

This is contained in a statement released to ZNBC News by the President’s for Press and Public Relations Dickson Jere.

President Banda says the country is attracting quality and high level investment which is creating jobs for all Zambians.

Mr Banda says the investment has come at a time when his government has prioritised infrastructure development through out the country.

Dangote Group is among several firms which have invested in Zambia following President Banda’s personal initiatives through business fora and international engagements.

Meanwile, President Rupiah Banda has urged MMD adopted candidates to strengthen the party by embracing losing aspiring candidates.

The President says he has met some of the losing aspiring candidates to encourage them so that they do not disappear as the party goes to the polls.

Mr Banda says the MMD will remain focused during the campaign period to ensure that it wins as many parliamentary seats as possible during the general elections.

The President was speaking when he met all the adopted parliamentary candidates at Mulungushi international conference centre on Wednesday.

Mr Banda says he is confident that all the adopted candidates will win their seats and usher the MMD into office for another five year term.

The President says he wants to meet all the adopted candidates prior to the announcement of the election date to discuss matters related to how the campaign will be conducted.

The president says he is also happy that former MMD and Republican Vice President Enock Kavindele is actively supporting the party.

Meanwhile, Electoral Commission of Zambia Legal Counsel Mulubwa Mulenga introduced the MMD adopted candidates on the revised Electoral Code of Conduct.

Ms Mulenga says the revised code of conduct has given power to the commission to reprimand any political party that breaches the electoral code of conduct.

She says the commission has been given power to revoke the accreditation of any polling agent who does not follow the code of conduct.

  1. zambia sold chilanga cement that was making money .oriental quarries is another of those companies that is making money from cement .all these companies are foreign owned. why cant the govt empower zambians to invest in easy busineses like this . all the raw materials required for making cement are in zambia . what people do have is money .so what trips are bearing fruits . cement is manufactured from limestone which is common place in zambia .Dangote is a nigerian company that borrow money from govt . why cant zambians do the same

  2. Well done RB for for your efforts to attract more investment in the country.

Now PF kaponyas here are more jobs. Don’t sit on your hands. Apply for the jobs and stop complaining on LT for a change.

If you are even more ambitious relocate and start a shop, no matter how small.

  3. Desperate moves to win peoples favours. Too late like Fox in Dora the explorer and monkey boots kids movie. Ha ha ha. Next he will be commissioning ground breaking for a chicken run at chimwemwe market

  4. We need a sign saying “Men at work”- Goo, gooo, goo RB some of us are happy with you dont listen to these good for nothings!

  5. Well this President politics aside has helped in the area of job creation. Go Mr President only foolish people can vote for the opposition

  6. Ba Bonnie…….how come LT has now become the dumping ground for Times, Daily Mail & ZNBC. Do you have a contract with them?

  7. These are real elements of development. I hear that Mulongoti and Guy scot want to go back to MMD. Gen. Miyanda can only be presido os Z in MMD.

  8. Indeed Mr. Presido indeed! Those complaining, please for once get off your butts and do something! The govt through CEEC is lending money to Zambians to start businesses, why can’t you do it? All you do is complain even if there is something positive. Dora is right, those that want to have their days spoiled continued reading the Negative news from the Past News papers! Those that want to make a difference in their lives and contribute to mother Zambia read the positive stuff. Go RB Go. Rome was not built in a day or a fantancy target of 90days!

  9. Why are u uninformed MMD vuvuzelas trying to make it look like this corrupt fat guy is solely responsible for Dangote settin up this plant. FYI: this project has been work in progress even before RB ascended to the position of VP. I’ve a copy of the memorundum of information where DIL(Dangote Industries Limited) is makin an analysis of the cement & construction industry in all of subsaharan africa in order to obtain funding amounting to $870million via syndication in late 2007. U *****s keep doin the same thing with da middle-income status, the sovereign ratings from Fitch n S&P…….u’ve to realise that all these achievements are a function of all that’s been done since 1991 not RB’s win-elections-by-takin-credit-for-s***-i-didnt-do type of economics! Mxxxxxxm

  10. #13 you can do all the insulting in the world! No one will listen to cheap headed chaps like you! in Bemba they say’ Ubulim bwakale tautalalika umwana’ as long as it was not realised it was just a plan! no one will take credit by just dreaming! its reality that matters. so you can use all the lousy words in the world, you still won’t take away the credit from the person at the helm of the unprecedented levels of economic growth of all our times in the country! remember you don’t have the monoploy for insults everyone can! it’s just that others want to debate the issue at hand, not your fantacies!

  11. U SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT WINNING YOUR OWN SEAT! NO MATTER WHAT OR HOW MANY SEATS YOU HAVE PARLE, YOU WILL NEVER BE PRESIDO AGAIN, UNLESS YOU WANT TO HIJACK THE CONSTITUTION BY CHANGING IT!

  12. Listen now all you PF hooligans. RB will have enough money from these Nigerians. So stop worrying about MMD using the meagre government resources – just start worrying about what you will do after you lose elections. Here is my advice: kick Sata out!! – however, none of you has the money that Sata has to run PF after Sata retires helplessly next year. I’m sure MMD will be happy to receive a few prodigal sons and daughters back from PF next year – and they will ofcourse shamelessly claim that they were misled by Sata that’s why they resigned from MMD but they have now learned their lesson.

  13. #16 DRC – that is empty patriotism. Do something then to contribute to your country, instead of always eyeing foreign investors with suspicion. Zambians no nothing apart from talking and complainging. If all foreign investors left today, we would go back to 1991 economic conditions, or even worse.

  14. # 18 Kunta-Kinte just wait… U will face reality, be non partisan and analyse things objectively.. not as an MMD Vuvuzela sakala iwe….

  15. Well done to the late LPM the wall, these projects were in the feasibility stage when the real president was alike (Patrick), not uyu sangwapo kabalwe.

  16. #20 LPM has been dead for close to three years for God’s sake. How can you give credit to a corpse? Which party was Mwanawasa a member of, was it PF or MMD? I guess if you support a party such as pf which is a one man dictatorship, you will not be able to understand the concept of collective party responsibility. Whether you carry on burying your head in the sand or not, the reality of this facility opening, makes it harder for your paltry faculties (pf) party to convince the electorate in the area not to vote for MMD, I guess that is really what you find so painful and unpalatable.

  17. What a shameless president picking his nose in public. I saw RB on the post newspaper picking his nose. At his age you would think he will know not to do such things in public. RB is tired he needs to rest and forget about politics at this time of his age, leave the young ones to deal with politics your time has passed.

  18. #22 That should tell you the type of paper your Post is. #20 RB was busy at that time making sure LPM was elected President.

  19. @Mukango, CEEC is about who you know ,don’t just talk from without. Of course Zambians want to be empowered but the corruption and nicheleleko is killing their dreams. They go to CEEC, they’re given excuses and stories its a no win situation pa Zed.

  20. Cheap African politics the so called investors pay slave wages while these dirty scum bags called politicians are living large and the millions suffering in the land of plenty. The opening of this cement factory should bring down the price of cement but it wont happen.Long LIVE dirty Scum Bags exploiting the poor ignorant people in the Country of plenty,One word explains it failed leadership failed state.

  21. CEEC is a joke and an insult to the people, Only a fool can believe in CEEC the Country is broke does not have a balanced budget and has less than 70 percent of the money to run the national budget in the National treasury, Wake up Grants which are soft loans from IMF,World Bank,EU and China are loans which must be paid back in 30 to 50 yrs. This Country is in debt broke and a failed state because of failed leadership,Top heavy Politicians getting all the little taxes collected from the poor working people and consumer taxes

  22. This investment is great for the country. I wonder though about the poor reporting – 1.5 metric tonnes is 150 pockets of cement, are they going to produce this over 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 month, etc, please improve on your reporting guys.

  23. RB is hard working and educated. he amazes me how he fits in well in the new era unlike his friend sata who seem out of touch with the current trend but survive on jokes and name calling. RB beat sata in many ways and sata will never match his CV. if you judge RB has an individual not mmd you will agree with me. if we dont have a replacement for him we better with RB than sata.

  24. Elections in Zambia! I was in Zambia last year and what I witnessed was unbelievable. remember Chifubu/Pamodzi bye-elections? There has been a longstanding water problem in the area. Suddenly MMD pledged to be working for the people in the area a pump was hired, water, from Kafubu river, started flowing from every tap. For some taps cockroaches & other insects come out initially. Pastors were bribed to try and get the MMD candidate, a local businessman into parliament. As you know the MMD lost, the pumps were closed. I will phone to know if the water is back on every tap once again. I also the cement plant is there to stay.

  25. For those who don’t watch ZNBC TV News, President Rupiah Bwezani Banda, the President of all Zambians, will address the nation tomorrow on all ZNBC TV and radio channels. Unfortunately, because ZNBC is public media PF cadres will not believe what they will hear or see.

  26. This company is owned by one Nigerian tycoon Aliko Dangote and this same factory will be up and running by mid-2013… I’m just buffed by the nature of this “ground breaking” ceremony as  the group signed an agreement with GRZ  in December 2010 so its impossible to build a cement factory in 6 months up and running.

  27. Buffoon RB is very very very hungry invites from anybody launching or opening anything…bakery, kitchen, cardboard, gate, pit latrines etc…anything for a photo opportunity!!

  28. Very soon Banda Junior will be signing contracts with Dangote Group’s subsidiary companies or his personal businesses!!

  29. Very soon Banda Junior will be signing contracts with Dangote Group’s subsidiary companies for his personal businesses!!

  30. well done !, this is one of the best type of investment even the haters have to go off topic… hahaha  Dangote group is a huge African company there investing in a manufacturing industry so we’re adding value to our raw materials ……africa by africans well done well done….we need more Aliko Dangote out africa must stop begging from Europe and asia
ps: Aliko dangote is a african made billionaire

  31. Someone attempted to kill Mulongoti? I wouldn’t waste a bullet on killing such a useless man. I would rather auction the bullet in Benghazi and give the money to charity. People like Mulongoti just kill themselves without anyone lifting a finger.

  32. 1.5 metric tonnes??? LT are you serious??? If YOU ARE, THEN IT IS VERY SHAMEFUL FOR A WHOLE PRESIDO TO BE OFFICIATING IN FRONT OF A VAN!!!!!

  33. this is what we want this is real development those condeming dangote let them go to hell that man dangote he sweated for his wealth not blood money but real money imagine from selling cigarettes to what he is now read his website this is what we zambians must learn its only comitment and dedication look at guys like agawal the owner of vandeta(kcm) from selling scrap to what he is now. mr rupiah banda continue what u are doing now even as zambians we can do it yes we can.viva RB NAFUTI NAFUTI.MORE JOBS NDOLA RURAL .WE WANT EVEN AS TO BE EMPOWERED NOW THE PROBLEM WITH US ZAMBIANS IS THAT THE MOMENT WE HAVE THE CHANCE WE SPOIL IT.FIRST THING IS TO LEAD A LUXURIUOS LIFE. HAMMERS BENZS BMWS THE WORST WE EVEN GO INTO POLYGAMY TOO MUCH IMPALI.CROOKEDNESS IS THE OTHER THING LOOK AT RAJAH MATTAN.

  34. A quote from a Nigerian who ‘knows’ ALIKO DANGOTE;

“A few years ago, when someone I know attempted to import corned beef into Nigeria from Botswana for distribution, he couldn’t on the grounds that it was on the prohibited list. When I nosed around, I ascertained that this same criminal, Aliko Dangote imports into Nigeria and distributes all manner of corned beef from Argentina, Brazil and Australia. His shenanigan over cement stinks to high heavens. I specifically engineered the same Igbo carry-go politician to approach Charles Ugwuh, the Obowo man who used to be Yar’Adua’s Commerce Minister on the cement thing after I discerned that every iota of cement that comes into Nigeria was through Aliko Dangote”

  35. The plant will also produce “one point five” metric tonnes of cement. JOURNALISM & OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM HAVE GONE TO THE DOGS. MARTHA PAYNTER WE MISS U.
