President Banda has declared that the MMD will win this year’s Presidential elections because it is a party for all Zambians.

The President has also observed that the MMD is the only party that can offer the economy stability and sustained growth.

President Banda says the MMD will beat Opposition Patriotic Front Leader Michael Sata because Zambians know too well that the opposition leader can not be a president for all Zambians.

President BANDA said this in Lusaka on Monday during the official launch of the MMD campaigns for the 2011 elections at Intercontinental Hotel.

The First Lady Thandiwe Banda, Vice President George Kunda and his wife Ireen were among hundreds of MMD members and invited guests that witnessed the Presidential launch of the 2011 campaigns.

Also notable among the invited guests was former Republican Vice President Enock Kavindele.

Meanwhile Mr Banda has urged Zambians to be careful with opposition PF Leader Michael Sata who talks a lot but lacks substance.

President BANDA said because of his unsubstantiated talk, Mr Sata has been rejected three times by the people of Zambia.

President Banda however noted that MMD has is yet to do more for the development of the nation.

And Diplomats accredited to Zambia have described President Rupiah Banda’s campaign message as inspirational. Egyptian ambassador to Zambia, Salah El Sadek says the President has highlighted what his government has done under his leadership.

Mr. El Sadek told ZNBC News that it is interesting to note that the President has also urged his party to avoid violence at all costs. The diplomat was reacting to President Banda speech during the official launch of the MMD election campaign in Lusaka.

And South African ambassador to Zambia Moses Chikane said the region is confident that ZAMBIA will again uphold the democratic tenants during this year’s elections as it has done for many years.

Meanwhile Nigerian ambassador to Zambia Folake Marcus-Bello said the President’s speech gives a lot of hope to foreign dignitaries that ZAMBIA will make Africa proud.

And former Republican and MMD Vice President Enock Kavindele says President’s speech gives all MMD supports confidence to go out and campaign based on the party’s achievements.

  1. Campaigning is not all about TRASHING the opposition parties imwe, Grow up. Why can’t he concentrate on the things that will deliver on when or if he wins?? Why should the people of Zambia give him a second chance, what will he do that he hasn’t done in his term that has just elapsed. I am sure I am not the only one who would be interested in reading the strategy that the president has for pushing Zambia forward? And this article, surely sounds like Lusaka Times was paid to pant it!

  2. “UNIP was in power for 27 years and atleast they built UNZA, CBA, Tazama pipeline, TAZARA, started ZNBC, Built Mwembeshi satellite ground station, KTZ, Kapiri glass and many more.”

Can MMD suppoters pleas tell us What has MMD built in 20yrs ? only shopright and spar ? . Shameless thieves,

    • tell me sata supporter if satana will paying you a salarie when have done nothing can`t you that your father wiil vote banda

    • Ba Makaka you’ve missed the point raised by Witness, just answer the question.. everything we see in Zambia was built by UNIP. what has MMD built so far???

    • I’ll gladly answer the question. UNIP’s disastrous economic policy left Zambia broke and among the most poor of the world’s countries. Zambia hit rock bottom and since then its had to climb up. So before your critize the MMD and contrast it with UNIP…..you need to also highlight the context of its time in power, which was less favourable than that of UNIP when it took the reigns from the British only to essentially bankrupt the country. Also Sata was part of MMD for 10 of the most corrupt of those 20 years….so really I don’t see the logic of your comment. My view is simple….lets stick to the issues and analyse all parties fairly on the basis of their achievements or lack thereof as well as their intellectual rigor.

  3. #2 nice car indeed and I read Chilanga Constituency so MMD has caught the opposition pants down for they have been ranting misuse of govt transport and resources. There are more of such campaign vehicles for each constituency. Nomba bane campaign hard for if HH nangu MCS wins mukalubulula eko mufumishe ulupiya to purchase a 100+ vehicles with super graphics!

  4. i agree wt #1,u no wat Rubish owez surpryses me,he has nev deliverd hiz spch wthout mentionin sata.it shows dat sata z a threat.pipo ar rily tire of u fooool RB.LETS HOP URE AV STARTED PACKIN YO KATUNDU COZ URE LEAVIN.GO GO SATA

  5. The people of Zambia just love their President, for the avoidance of doubt I don’t mean the few haters on LT, I mean the majority out there. Nafuti nafuti…….

  6. Hahaha….car reads “Chilanga Constituency”. PF caught napping once again. President Banda, the Zambian people are ready to give you another mandate. The Zambian people have seen the development that is happening all over the nation which is unprecedented. The Zambian people want to build the Zambia of tomorrow and they’ll do that with the MMD.

    NAFUTI NAFUTI.

  7. Good message! and all the opposition should do is not to brush aside, this message but present your own campaign message highlighting what you are going to do and in which period, dont just say i will do much in 90 days but tell us exactly what you shall do………….

  8. Lasst die Spiele beginnen!
As always the opposition has been caught dosing at the steering wheel.Once again the incompetent carpenter always blames his tools e.g the elections were rigged, the incumbent won because the incumbent used more vehicles than us.Opposition especially PF wake up and just start preparing for 2016 if at all you wont disintegrate after the 20th September.

    • 2011 or 2016 sata can`t get it my dear just vote for MMD and do yuo no that will die very very soon becoz iffwaka.

  9. The reality will tell. Can you plz advise your political parts to say something about Barotseland and give us a clear picture of what they will do once voted into power.

  10. Zambians like MMD ,IS THAT a new development or something u built.U R GOING ,WE MADE UP OUR MINDS LAST ELECTIONS THO U RIGGED,THIS TIME ,TULI NE FYANSO

  11. What kind of compgning is this the zambian pipo want 2 hear ur manifesto not insulting the oposition.Dont waste yo tym underleting n insulting oposition they ar there 4 a purpose, nowonder its democracy….

  12. Nice and expensive car for sure! If indeed each constituency does have such a vehicle it makes me worried because in it current state can not really afford such lavish spending on campaigns even if it is at individual party expense. It is somewhate unethical considering the poverty levels of the majority of the electorate to spend billions of kwacha on election campaigns. In any case such expenses do somehow end up being passed on to the electorate through corruption by the party that wins the election and forms the next government. This is mainly through overpriced contracts and tenders with shoddy deliverables to by the benefactors of the same poliiticians that they sponsored. So we should be weary of where MMD is obtaining its funding to afford these MMD/RB branded vehicles!!

  13. Its Dochi Kubeba. The chaps are scared.PF has bucks which Ronny has felled to trace were it come from.Just aneye openner…..who attended the PF Convention?the you get the answer

  14. The people will decide! I don’t think RBISH is as charismatic and popular as a certain man who will be elected this year. Donchi kubeba. Not maRBishi

  15. #5, why not try to ask that question to Sata who was in MMD for 50% of MMD’s time in Government.(For your reference: RB has only been MMD for 4/20 and Sata 10/20 years of MMD rule). MMD success ‘coincidentally’ has happened in the last 4 years since RB joined, nothing in the Sata years. Any surprises?

  16. Do you remember chiluba cases involving MMD. The new govt look out where did these chaps get the money from whilst in hospitals no drugs and teachers and pensionerirs no money. This is another zamtroop account coming for sure. Anna chifungula thus if the new govt will accept you we need a throughly job to be done auditing at its best infact forenseic one. Where can MMD get the money to buy those vihecles. Zambians wake up. Us ABROAD WE ARE watching you how you will vote. If you vote RB no western union for you.

  17. For the majority of us, its RB and MMD through Decision 2011 consolidating our obvious win for continuity of unprecedented national development.

    For God and My Country-Bwembya

  18. “President Banda has declared that the MMD will win this year’s Presidential elections because it is a party for all Zambians”.

Everything about this guy is about him alone and no one else. Was this launch for him alone or he has given up on his MPs and they have to fend for themselves? It seems he does not care about the fate to befall his MMD MPs. Probably to title should have read – RB Launches his 2011 Election Campaigns.

  19. #21 Very funny coming from a pf personal to holder party where Sata went unchallenged at the convention and hand picks who is going to stand for mp after embezzling money from them!!

  20. If a party is only constituted of kaponyas who don’t even vote as the CASE OF PF is, its standards are also kaponya like. MMD has a diverse selfless membership that appreciates the responsibility of membership. They give and give big.

    For God and My Country-Bwembya

  21. RB message met my expectations, unifying, hopeful and inspiring. Ba PF ekalenifye ngatamkwete ifyakulanda perpetual failures

  22. # 21,
Please limit your self exposed ignorance. In tripartite election systems, Presidential campaigns are launched separately from parliamentary and civic campaigns. Presidential campaigns are symbolically official launch of National campaigns that officiate all level of tripartite elections.

    For God and My Country-Bwembya

  23. @ 19 Mwine Pabo
Even though you warn the grass roots electorates in rural areas who are the true swing voters that you won’t send them any $ if they vote for RB the developmental plans by HE.RB are in full swing. The grass root voters don’t need your Western Union $ because they now have implements and fertiliser for more bumper harvests.Unlike PF which has been giving them lip service for the past 10 years!!

  24. it was the campain for the MMD and RB as Presido.Bo PF tell us about your M Ps so that we can tell the nation about them. Are you still boasting of the likes of Gay chikoti,Wilie Nsanda,Kambwili,Musenge,Genetically Modified Body-GBM,Kabwamba or sorry kabimba?where is your shame? This year,2011,RB for President, nafuti nafuti

  25. Ladies and gentlemen, let us vote wisely this year by putting in the best cream. Go out in numbers and vote wisely and don’t blame your neighbor for choosing a wrong candidate.

  26. #8 Mr. Capitalist – 3 E’s steering economic growth, and the rest of the MMD sympathizers on this blog, please advise us on,
    1) What the MMD has done for the past 20 years (in 27 yrs UNIP built TAZAMA pipeline, UNZA, UTH, SCHOOLS. NCZ, MAMBA Batteries, Livingstone Motor assembly, KTT, Kapiri Glass company, and many more)
    2) What the MMD still has not done in 20 years that it wants to achieve in the next 5 years.
    3) Why the MMD is the better party of the worst (all political parties in Zambia are useless)
note: I didnt mention PF only in point 3, i mentioned ‘PARTIES’ i.e UPND, ZADECO, NAREP, FDD, UNIP, PF etc. Neither have i mentioned individuals i am talking about political parties and their manifestos, am sure the MMD government runs on the MMD manifesto and not RB manifesto.

    • Kaponyas!!! we have a serious case of blind loyalty in our country, I have been raising this question on this website and no response all I get is NAFUTI NAFUTI or Donch Kubeba?? can the 13 million people in Zambia be so petty and *****ic. guys atleast UNIP tried but these bunch of goons are hopeless. Maybe we have quietly reserved our selves to poverty and under development we think its the norm… sometimes am ashamed of calling my self a Zambia 47 years of Independence, Third largest copper producer in the world and we are a third world country thats has just been mistakenly moved into the middle income bracket with 80% living in poverty. you bloggers make me SICK

  27. #27 Kaponyas!!!
In the first 10 years of MMD,MMD had to salvage the economy as it  was in intensive care unit with high inflation and unproductive mines and parastatals e.g UBZ.After that MMD started liberalising the economy where a zambian could participate more in the economy e.g Marcopolo buses instead of UBZ.In the 15 years of MMD debt which UNIP unsustainably incured had to be negotiated and thanks to MMD it was canceled because of sustanable policies. In the previous 5 years of MMD unprecedented levels of development have been observed as some of the fruits of MMD good seeds sown in the past.More fruits yet to come.

    • My friend you are blind, MMD destroyed in less that 5 years what UNIP built in 27 years, they reduced the country from a manufacturing economy to a trading economy, at one time every single product on the shelf in shoprite was made in South Africa until the Manufacturing Association of Zambia cried foul, during MMD’s first 15 years rule employment went sky high as the mines retrenched and the government ad made no plans for the retrenched, NOW lets talk about privatisation, what happened to the proceeds of privatisation in particular ZCCM Nchanga alone was sold for $90m to Anglo, were any schools built with that money, a small rural clinic.. PLEASE spare us from your blind loyalty.

    • The first ten years under the MMD were a disaster because Sata was part of the team. When he left however, we started seeing a bit of progress and confidence in the economy under Mwanawasa and we continue to see the remnants of his reign under RB. we do however feel it is time to move on to some real Change in the way we run this economy by utilising real talent at central govt level instead of these dimwits that are being shaved down our throats by PF in the name of mulongoti chitala and GBM.

    • @Ba Zed, The manufacturing economy built by KK was a mirage….simply put it was unsustainable because it was poorly run and was only able to exist because Zambia’s economy was closed. The proof is that once the economy was opened up all those state owned companies failed to remain competitive. What is now happening is that companies that are able to exist and compete in an integrated global economy are being built, case in point Zambeef which trades in Nigeria as well as in Zambia. Or Thirsty which also sells its products in Malawi……as more Zambians become enterprising the list may get longer. The difference now is that its up to individuals not the state to develop Zambian commerce.

  28. Well its seems like the MMD is taking it even this year…..hahahaha

Nafuti nafuti…   Ba shikulu retirement is calling

  29. #26 A lot of the rural voters are now probably better off than some of their countrymen and women living in the diaspora who dont have two pennies to rub together.

  30. Dr. RB, the most educated president from the Mwami border area! Is Commander in chief of MMD Militia and former MP for Munali now seeking the highest office in the land on his own name? And he says this time, he will not seek a third term (as the last time, when he said he wanted to finish only LPM’s term!) I believe him like I always believe his own brother William Banda (former deportee)! He has even out manoeuvred former Election Campaign Manager- Miko Bulongeti! Finally (and Thank God) they have stopped launching MMD at statehouse!

  31. Last night Dr RB had a dream that he lost the election and that he was sitting next to Gbagbo, Mubarak (clutching a sack full of diamonds) and Zine El Abidine Ben Ali (with his wife carry the rareliest diamonds in a pot on her head). Then FTJ watched them from above, he shouts “Lomba imwe mwabwezani chani?” Meaning what have you brought? RB opens his jacket and is clutching wads of Kwacha!

  32. What sustained growth all this is down to the mining sector and the price of copper appreciating were even the revenue you are collecting is a utterly disgraceful and an insult to the stakeholders…has there been sustained growth in the Agricultural sector, all these are Levy Mwanawasa’s policies (MHSRIP) You are just a BUFFOON, no leadership qualities, just a mere care taker whose a tool there to appease foreign investors.
    Anybody but you!!!

  33. Well, RB stands a lot more chances to carry the day in this year’s presidential elections but his some of his MPs may tumble. If you live in Lusaka and never take an inch to get interested in how much investment government has pushed in infrastructure in rural areas, you do not know why we were rated with a B+ as a credit worthy country and why WB gave us the lower middle income status… you are forgiven for buying opposition PF blindness prescription of drugs not to see the reality. The time rural votes will roll out for RB, you will remain dazed again and crying ‘rigging’.

  34. Ala shikulu will sink with his bwato in Bangweulu and people may just be able to retrieve his insults for burial. And insults are never given a dignified funeral… sorry if he was dreaming of buying plot two at embassy park by first going to plot one, sata will miss both. At least RB has already got a ticket to embassy park, just like KK.

  35. It seems MMD cadres on LT are intrigued by seeing a nice looking vehicle. They are thinking this vehicle will vote or will deliver votes. Sorry, cadres, Zambians are no longer as damn as you sound here on LT. They voted way before the campaigns began. What remains is just to go and escort RB out of that place. Already monkeys decided he was a wrong person for the office, what do you think people think about him. It seems those monkeys that peed on RB are more smarter than MMD cadres on LT.

  36. Mr RB it is you who lacks substance. Tell us about your track record, it is that of failure. Perhaps you not well informed, you are the worst president Zambia has ever had. I guess no other weel ever match up with how poor you have been. On the other hand, SATA’s success and track record speaks for itself. He changed things for the better in every ministry he worked in. That is how he will change Zambia. Thanks, but no thanks, RB. Go well and enjoy the shade under that tree at your farm.

  37. BA RUPIAH NA TU KADA TWENU YOU WILL FACE THE WRATH OF INTELLIGENT ZAMBIANS. WE SHALL SEND YOU TO YOUR SILLY STINKING FARM MUKALETOMBANA NA THANDIWE BWINO

    • My brother or is it sister, you are cursed! You must be a mental case, a lunatic! And when you say Zambians, please be specific and talk about yourself and your family-perhaps your have the same gene iya bushilu! Insele twakana!

  38. I think its high time our politicians start acting on their words not that yesterday they say no character assassination and then today say something else… 4 me u dont earn my trust like that

  39. Guys we seem to be missing the point here, for the sake of Zambia lets ask our selves, what public projects has MMD done in the last twenty years, UNIP did some good, UNZA, CBU, Lusaka and Ndola Airports, all the roads being resurfaced by MMD were built by UNIP. These guys are such failures, to top it all they say Manda Hill and Arcades, were these shopping malls built with public funds, these are privately owned built by business institutes. So my question goes begging, 20 years what tangible project have they done??? NAFUTI NAFUTI my A.S.S

  40. Rupiah never stopped campaigning since 2008, so there is nothing new about his latest move.
Unless the meaning of the word “launch” has changed, how does rupiah claim to launch a campaign now when in fact it has always been there?

  41. Kaponyas!!! we have a serious case of blind loyalty in our country, I have been raising this question on this website and no response all I get is NAFUTI NAFUTI or Donch Kubeba?? can the 13 million people in Zambia be so petty and *****ic. guys at least UNIP tried but these bunch of goons are hopeless.

  42. I think there is something wrong with Today’s Old People. Only a few months ago, Kavindele was calling Banda names, yet today he is the one singing praise.

  43. First of all Rupiah Banda seems to live in fantasy island, it’s wishful thinking for him to claim that the MMD is party for all Zambians. The fact is that he himself is not MMD, he is UNIP through and through.

  44. # 45 & 47 Ba Zedi Your questions have been answered at # 32 by Njombwinjo. You must be rleaving outside the country or have refused to see what is happening in the country on purpose. Even if we were to vote RB out, he walk with his head high in the society. For your to get to where we are. I know you hate him with a passion, but I can you the man has been running since he assumed the presidency. I salute and his colleagues for empowering my rural kinsmen, they are no longer asking for money for inputs. Viva RB!

  45. Pointless how can you launch a campaigns by attacking somebody and then you call yourself that its an issue based campaign? bullshit and useless shreck

  46. That car in the picture used to have GRZ plates….. A lot of GRZ vehicles have ‘vanished’ from ministries

  47. # 50 Precisely, I live outside Zambia and I see first hand what other African countries are doing in terms of infrastructure we are still lagging way way behind, even Angola that just came out of civil war is already over taking us, Try watching CNBC Africa and check out their featured country profiles.. iyeeeee umwana ashenda atasha nyina ukwipika. LPM tried and RB is riding the Mexican wave that LPM started and he’s now bragging?? The rains have been favorable, the commodities prices (copper) have been favorable, only a simpleton would fail to elicit some form of progress even if its in the form of road resurfacing and a few rural health centers. I guess that progress for us. Come now in 20 years and soon to be 25 years these guys can do better.
