United Independence Party (UNIP) Presidential aspiring candidate Tilyenji Kaunda has successfully filed in his nominations for the September 20th, 2011 elections.

Mr. Kaunda arrived at the supreme court accompanied by his wife patience and other party officials at about 10:40 hrs this morning.

Returning officer for presidential nominations chief justice Ernest Sakala declared him as an eligible candidate for the 2011 elections after Mr. Kaunda successfully meant all the requirements.

And speaking after the nominations, Mr. Kaunda said his party once voted into power will ensure that it gives the people a new constitution within the first six months of its rule.

Other candidates expected to file in their nominations are FDD’s aspiring presidential candidate Edith Nawakwi and Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED)president Dr. Fred Mutesa.

Meanwhile, The Zambia Rainbow Coalition (ZRC) has expressed concern at the systematic attempts by some quarters of society to scandalize and undermine the country’s electoral process.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today, Coalition President Cleophas Phiri says such maneuvers will threaten national security and compromise the credibility of the electoral process.

Mr. Phiri has therefore the urged the Electoral Commission of Zambia to be steadfast and not succumb to the ill intended pressures.

He has cited the printing of ballot papers in South Africa, the parentage clause and the capability of the electoral commission to conduct free and fair elections as issues raised to undermine the electoral process by alleged enemies of the country.

Mr. Phiri has since appealed to the Civil Society organizations that will monitor this year’s elections to ensure that they vest their members with the electoral procedures and code of conduct in order to report results with professionalism, honesty and responsibility.

ZRC is a pressure group determined to defend the public good through advocacy and campaign for better laws and policies to govern the country.

  1. 2011 ya baiche.. bu street adult nabuchilamo fye! we need someone of our generation, may we can also move a step forward..

  2. Yaba, Elo lwanya. By the way if we are to follow the controvetial parentage clause in the constitution we would say that Tilyenji doesnt qualify because his parents are said not to be zambians by decent. so you see kabinda how foolish you are. Tomorrow you will lose the case.

  3. This is what we fought for in 1991, therefore we should not let any imbe.cile take us back to the one party way of doing things e.g. no elections at party conventions,no consultancy in parliamentary adoptions and curtailing other parties from freely participating in elections.RB Nafuti Nafuti.

  4. Well done Mr Kaunda, I wish you all the best. Don’t be distracted by those who say you are already a loser even before the votes are cast. Democracy embraces all!

  5. ba #9 the article is about kaunda filling his nomination why attack kabimba.cant some pipo discuss issues without diverting.

  6. Democracy at its worst point.Going into a race for the. Sake of democracy or is it foolishness in the name of democracy?

  7. Ninjishiba ine ifishinka, ifyo Abalumendo na Banakasi abalefwaya bukaTEKA (Presidency), 1. History for our children 2. Limbi balebomfya magic kubena Zambia ati paku VOTA ni lyk The famous Prog on MUTV-TAKE Y’ PICK. What do others Think?

  8. The man is talking about a new Constitution as the message he has to develop the country. He has no idea and no position.

  9. The nomination fee is way too low, it needs to be increased to at least 100million and donate half of it to SOS,  Children in Need  and other decent NGOs. We need to stop this nonsense where even parties like Choma Party with support in only one province are able to raise the 10million-or whatever it is- and waste our precious time. It’s not too late to increase it, just inform those who’ve already filed their nominations to top up 90million or have them cancelled.

  10. For those that can pray without leaning to Political affliations but instead would pray for justice and righteousness to prevail in Zambia, elections included. Please pray for the Judiciary in Zambia, Justice Ireen Mambilima, Priscilla Isaac, EFZ, the printing company in South Africa for the fear of the Lord to prevail because everyone will give an account to God for everything that was done in this life. May whatever responsibilities they have been entrusted with be done unto the Lord and not unto men. God bless Zambia and God bless the 2011 elections.

  11. no. 26. donot spiritualise elections. it is not time to give spiritual counseling here but go flat out and sensitize the masses not to vote for people who are disappointed in life. how can they help those who disappointed if themselves are already failures in life. It is not the time to pray but to woke from sleep. we have slept too long.

  12. Zambians are excersing their democratic rights. No need for insane comments against Tilyenji Kaunda. Wait till Teusday when we shall witness a PF ‘Chainama psychatric escape’ to take on more dramatic insane language. We understand that they say PF means ni “Pa Fwaka” – whatever herb their lunatic Mwachusa enjoys to fweba. The dictionary of insults will be unveiled at the High Court Buildings in presence of fleets of ba Malikopos of today. Wee! Democracy at its best.

  13. ……..”Meanwhile, The Zambia Rainbow Coalition (ZRC) has expressed concern at the systematic attempts by some quarters of society to scandalize and undermine the country’s electoral process”………. As I recall the rainbow is the universal symbol of gay, lesbians and transgender communities, why the f**k didn’t anyone tell me LEGATRA has been renamed and reformed to Zambia Rainbow Coalition? Thanks Alabi for recognizing HAPPY (gay) RIGHTS, you have my vote!

  14. Why do bad things happen to good people? ……….LIONS have killed and eaten a 50-year-old man in chieftainess Mwape’s area in Nyimba district.

Siniyopa Mumba, becomes the second person to have been eaten by lions in the last two months in chieftainess Mwape’s area while two others were attacked over the same period.

  15. Indeed Tilyenji has exercised his democratic rights. On Teusday we will see Pompolyongo the Mwachusa come stage to exploit Zambian civilised electoral culture for his own foreign selfish ends. Awaiting to see more drama with his equally insane chola-boy Guy Scott.

  16. Well done Tilyenji we want the young ones like you,who have holy mouth’s than those madalas with mouths full of evil words continue your man show them that you are a man of action not like these here who are men of insults. Action= life. No Action=dead

  17. I state again, what a load of hypocritics we have on this blog. Pretenders of the virtue and necessity for multypartism. Tilyenji Kaunda files his Presidential papers and you say its a waste of time. Yet, when you debate on this forum, you demand democracy, the rule of law, a level playing field, blaa blaa blaa. What do you now want? A restricted number of partyies? How do you determine who should or should not exist on the political field? Who decides? A return to one-party dictatorship? Again I say, what ridiculous hypocrisy? You advocate progress, yet you betray it with a revelation of your inherent political conservative retrogression – taking us back even further. I wouldn’t care less if there were a thousand political parties vying for power. It is up to you to sieve them.

  18. One thing Miyanda, TJ and the rest of the younger leaders could do well and learn from Sata is his tireless campaigning with or without elections. This thing of only becoming active when election dates have been announced is what is killing these young leaders. You need five years of non-stop campaning and explaining your policies and only summarising your message during election period, HH or Miyanda for 2016.

  19. oh my Gosh, is UNIP still a party??????? sorry friends for exprerssing my ignorance, I thought UNIP was now an extension of MMD, OOPS!!!HAHAHAHAHA and Kaunda family is still in the contetion?????? Who will evr vote for UNIP??? NOT even ba Kk can vote for his son ahahahahahahahahahahahahhah
