Bank of Zambia Governor Caleb Fundanga has observed that a safe environment is necessary for sustainable economic development and poverty reduction.
Speaking in Lusaka last evening during the installation ceremony for the Lions Club of Munali, Dr. Fundanga said Zambia continues to face great challenges in its quest to improve the wellbeing of citizens socially and economically.
Dr. Fundanga has called on the Lions Club to extend its outreach to areas that are not serviced by Non Governmental Organisations in the area of environmental protection.
He urged the club to pioneer a programme that will make the communities understand the interaction between poverty and environmental degradation.
Dr Fundanga further advised the club to avoid practices which may result in the depletion of resources on which communities depend for their livelihood.
“It is imperative that we all understand that a better environment stewardship is essential for sustainable economic development,” the Governor noted.
He also commended the club for initiating youth development programmes aimed at nurturing Zambia’s youth to be responsible members of society.
And Lions Club of Munali President Nephas Kango pledged his club’s continued commitment to providing various charitable services to the community.
This was during the induction of new office bearers for the Lions Club of Munali.
And Newly inducted Maluba Rotary Club President Arnold Shatunka of district 9210 has urged Rotarians throughout the country to work hard and make Zambia a better country to live in.
Mr, Shatunka made these remarks during his acceptance speech as President elect of Maluba Rotary club district 9210 at a fund raising dinner in Lusaka, last night.
He implored Rotarians to strive hard to be better livelihoods of the general citizenry by showing compassion and empathy to the needy.
The elect President reminded the Rotarians that they have a responsibility to serve the under privileged.
Mr Shatunka urged club members to sow seed of kindness as it is the sole obligation of the club to assist the needy in various communities.
And newly inducted Maluba Rotary club member Alexi Chileshe said he was happy to join the rotary club.
He said prior joining the club, Mr Chileshe was admiring the works of the Rotarians were doing in communities.
Mr Chileshe said its gratifying to work with people who have dedicated themselves in serving the under privileged.
And speaking earlier, Major General Anthony Yeta said government appreciates the help rotary club has always rendered in times of disasters.
Maj General Yeta said a lot of under privileged persons have benefited from the rotary club world wide.
He emphasized that both Rotarians and noon Rotarians should love and care for their neighbors.
Meanwhile Maj General Yeta has called on Rotarians to work with every peace loving Zambian as the country goes to polls.
ZANIS
This man was my lecturer at UNZA in 1985 and I admired his knowledge then. I still do. It is so objective. But I hope the MMD loses the election and the PF still appoints him as Governor of our Central bank. He can take care of our monetary stuff properly
That is jargon to PF, what do they understand about providing an enabling environment for investmen?
Minimum wage in the USA: $7.25 per hour. Minimum wage in China: 55 cents per hour. Still wanna go?
Major. Gen.Yeta, can you tell commander-in-chief, Rupiah, ACC, ECZ & DEC the importance of peace in the country in order to foster development?
Let them provide leadership and do the right thing on UPG in order to conduct free, fair and credible elections. The Sept 20 elections are NOT an MMD but national elections. Rupiah,
Stop playing Russian Roulette with the people’s lives.
You have Zimbabwe to run to the rest of us only have one Zambia
Its good that Dr Fundanga attributes economic growth ot piece.Such a person requires to be commended.
One thing I do not understand is this that our economy is growing, our copper exports are high than the 2006 production,we have produced record bumper harvests of our staple food, the same Dr Fundanga played a major role in ensuring that our Kwacha gained against the Dollar in 2006.
What is the problem now that the Kwacha can be so weak to trade at K5000 to a Dollar when the Dollar is weakening against all major currencies?
I hope the Doctor can answer that!
Ask the Chinese why they have kept their currency weaker than the USD…then you will understand the basics of economics of exchange rates!
With Sata this country is doomed.
Chimambala!!
NEVER!!
As usuall Ka Katie Goodie cant avoid bringing in PF.Surprised she doesnt mention Mmembe as she does all the time!!!!
Security is an important for economic growth – Fundanga. won’t comment until somebody tells me if this chizungu is correct.
Caleb is right…failure to maintain peace will drive us back to the stone age! The only people who can be happy with violence are those who own 7 guns and psychotic body guards!
Haha I don’t see any mention of PF or MMD here, just the usual blabbering boot lickers
ba PF namumfwa ka..PEACE
@8- Muyembe, I also don’t understand the headline but i guess LT meant to say “Security is important for economic growth”.The floor is now open for your comments.
No.s 8 & 12 – headline should have been a typo error. Back to the subject – as noted by no. 1 Dr Caleb Fundanga has done well at BoZ and if memory serves me, he should be the longest serving BoZ governor clocking 10 years. Similarly, Dr Joshua Kanganja has also done well as Secretary to the Cabinet, also going to his 10th year. Mwanawasa made these appoitments well – some of the best ever made to these positions. Even the choice of the Auditor General – Anna Chifungula- was a good one – what needs to be done is to amend the Financial Management Act so that the Auditor General has power to recover monies and prosecute where there is default in recovery.
