PF inciting violence — FODEP

THE Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has accused the Patriotic Front (PF) of inciting violence by blocking election materials and making unfounded allegations that there are pre-marked ballot papers in the country.

FODEP executive director Macdonald Chipenzi said it was unfair to block officials on duty in Nakonde and wondered why there had been no apology after the truck was inspected and discovered that it was ferrying tapes for boundaries.

Mr Chipenzi urged the Zambia Police Service to curb lawlessness as a way of stopping further violence because such misconduct could attract angry reactions and lead to chaos. He said the conduct by the PF cadres gave an impression that every Zambian now needed more security than before and yet Zambia was a democracy where the rule of law should remain above board.

Mr Chipenzi was commenting on an incident on Saturday when PF cadres blocked trucks that were ferrying election materials in Nakonde and accused the officials of having carried pre-marked ballot papers as a way of rigging. Police service spokesperson Ndandula Siamana on Sunday disclosed that the trucks were opened and that no single ballot was found.

Mr Chipenzi said PF cadres were over-suspicious but that his main source of worry was that they were taking the law into their own hands and hoped the police could bring such behaviour to an end. He said the PF leaders should encourage their cadres to report such incidents to the police, ECZ and civil society organisations so that appropriate steps could be taken for the sake of order in the country.

“You cannot have a situation where people are taking the law into their own hands. The police must deal firmly with such behaviour. “One gets an impression that Zambians are no longer safe because of the cadres who want to take the law into their own hands,” Mr Chipenzi said.

He said the PF leaders were aware and directly involved in monitoring the printing of ballot papers in South Africa and wondered how the same party could start running allegations that ballot papers had already been printed.

Mr Chipenzi said the unfounded allegations against the ECZ and the general management of the elections would erode confidence in the voters and such could be a source of violence against innocent people.

The 16.5 million ballot papers are expected to be flown into the country on Tuesday next week in time for the presidential and general elections that take place on Tuesday, September 20, 2011.

  1. The calibre of the majority pf members is the violent, kaponya & tribal type that should not be given chance to rule zambia.

    • Help! what do you mean TRIBAL when all aspiring candidates are contesting from whereever they originated from, .eg, Prof. Lungwaga, Dora Siliya, Chituwo, Chizyuka.,Masebo, Inonge wina, Mangani, GBM, etc.

  2. Who is violet William Banda or the PF.? No one can exceed William Banda’s violence levels. And the police do nothing about it. That man should watch out ha may end up at The Hague like his Kenyan brothers. His behavior at the weekend was uncalled for.

  3. @5 Jarden Siwale.

The answer to your question is simply “The same reason private media are always excited about anything negative for the Govt”.

  4. Seems PF supporters are paranoid schizophrenics who are very proud of their illness judging from the comments above. There is no remorse or embarrassment whatsoever about the fact that their allegations as always were unfounded. I think what will happen is that people will not take the allegations made by pf seriously as they have cried wolf far too many times.

  5. Ivory coast, kenya were places where it was thought they were peaceful, prosperous and supposedly democratic. They had swallowed the line that they were stable icons, role models and beacons of african hope & that nothing horrible could happen to them.Terrible things did happen and both were tied to elections.Zambia watch out you’re not immune either.

    • How come these kaponyas don’t see that it is them who will lose most with PF?  I have my air ticket already booked in case SATAn goes to State House.  This country will be finished if that happens.

  6. Yea, tell them Chipenzi tell those PF morons. Question is: do they have the mental capacity to process the simple things you have said? I think they don’t. Brains long cooked from too much ganja smoke.

    • well i’d have advised u to shut the F up but i skim that wud be asking a little too much from a PF cadre. Your thick headedness is Legendary :)

  7. Ask yourself why this is happening,is it that electorate have no confidence in ECZ or they vote for change which does not come? If i want to transport a thing which is illegal,do u think i can use a medium(e.g truck) which is on everyone’s mind.Think.

  8. Great Job FODEP! Thisis an effect of Dr. Ngoma’s failure to sneek out that copy that was to be peedleed by the Post as evidence of the PF’s imaginery rigging of the elections! What happened in Nakonde is lawlessness and does not deserve the support of any peaceinded/loving Zambian. Knowing the PF and their leaders, it would be too much to expect them to see sense in apologising and being more rational in future.!

  9. I dont think its wrong to be observant on whatever is happening. If there is any suspicious, let people try and check. Is there anything wrong?

  10. So far it is evident that the PF are not at all committed to ensuring that this great nation is VIOLENCE FREE..the PF has continued to show its violent side and we can now see that Sata is not at all the man people can TRUST…if at all the Zambian people want peace in this nation..Sata must not at any cost assume office..it is clear that all he wants is to become president and seems to be saying nothing shud stand in his way..People of Zambia..read between the lines here..|Sata has been ever making contradictory statements in the past and he still is making them..we must rise and vote for RB a president for all Zambians

    • This is the stupides.t comment. William Banda was beating up villagers in Chongwe in full view of the police. How about that? Dont just hate. THINK!!!

  11. All becomes clear at last…Now we know why Dr Ngoma was not sent back from Durban…He is serving the master and Chipenzi is only speaking the masters voice. Everyone must be vigilant. As was seen in Chongwe, the police is totally impotent when faced with serious wrong doing by MMD

  12. All thugs should be arrested and put behind bars! Alarmists can bring confusion in this nation, remember the Anti Rigging antics of 2008! Some of these nicompoomps should be removed from society and put away where they belong. As for Ivory Coast and Kenya referred by a blogger above, I dont think we are in a similar situation as them, I stand to be collected. In Ivory Coast the winner was deemed to a foreigner (Northerners are not regarded as indigineous in that country) while in Kenya it was the Kikuyus Vs the Luos, two ethnic groups considered to be strong and big. We should always be positive, yes a few thugs would advantage of the situation and cause mayhem. Peace we shall continue to enjoy well after the elections on 20th September 2011.

  13. There is a lot of sense in what Chipenzi is saying. The PF appears to be so desperate. Why block vehicles and spread false stories? They know too well, that their candidate is no longer as popular as he used to be, and only way for them is induce fear in voters through violence.

  14. Is this Chipenzi talking about William Banda and MMD cadres or what?He is right about the police not doing anything about the MMD hooliganism though.Kabonde should resign. He either doesnt know how to do his job or he is compromised.13 and 20 i think nimwebo ba kandile.Stop dreaming

  15. CHI GUY ICHI NABACHIPELAFYE MONEY. LOOK AT HIM MA RUBISH! cHI RB IS THE ONE WHO IS VIOLENT REMEMBER CHIEFTNESS KOMESHA..WE WILL CAGE RB/WB AFTER 20TH COZ THEY AR BEHAVING LIKE ANIMALS

  16. Put RB, HH and Sata on a platform and look into their past and present political activities and you will see clearly who is the most closely associated with bullying, intimidation and violence. I am sorry to say this, because I respect Dr Kaseba, but her husband has a clear record of violence in every way you think about him. Once Mr Sata disappears from the political scene, hoping he doesn’t train more people in his ‘academy,’ violence will be history in Zambia’s politics. Mr Sata IS violence. Now Sylvia Masebo boasts of being trained by Sata and so she too has become violent.

  17. The calibre of some leaders of these once respectable organisations is pathetic and mediocre. Before there was Mhango and now this persona non grata from the blues! From intellectually suspect and morally inept fellows like this you expect quick endorsements of results as free and fair even in the face of evidence to the contrary. ECZ apparent collusion with MMD as seen from their silence on MMD violation of electoral code and police bias has led PF to go an extra yard to ensure the votes are credible.

  18. Iwe The Saint which political party does William Banda belong to?Can you name any cadre from PF who is violent?Put facts on the table that states Masebo is violent.Wake up man dont dream!!

    • ChiWinter ChiKamba is on record saying “kill them”.  This LOWya thug will end at the ICC at The Hague for genocide.

  19. Hunger has a way of distorting thoughts and obscuring the obvious that could be fluttering in front of your eyes. Pressure pa Zed, pressure.

  20. FODEP is a toothless organisation that only sees violence on opposition political partie but what the MMD does is thier magarine.Days are numbered!

  21. beyond reasonable doubt the PF is the most violent party that Zambia has ever seen..it is time the Zambian people said NO to SATA and NO to violence..

  22. The only person who can exceed William Banda’s violence habits is Comrade Sata. These guys were togather in UNIP and remember what they used to do there? I guess everyone who was there and could understand politics in the 80’s and 90’s woild agree with me on what these guys used to do.

You can also ask the guys like Scopion Kadobi to narrate the Chawama saga or Kulima tower guys, they know the best of Sata. So Sata = William Banda

  23. Thats the problem with ba kapala ba PF if it doesnt suit them then its not true.RB is winning and Zambia shall be peaceful as usual.Satana twakukana.

  24. We don’t care what this monkey says especially that this story comes from times of banda. PABWATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  25. Does anyone know what pf stands for, policy wise, apart from their nationalization goal? This is the eleventh hour, and we have not heard any other issues to weigh them on. What seems to be the matter? This is taking ‘Donch Kubeba’ too far!

  26. Some of your directors, they are just destitute. Why do you put their pictures, look at that thing there, yesterday it was Lifwekelo, as if he survives on breast milk from his wife.

  27. Where is the top brass; the Party Presidents; this is the when the should stick their heads above the parapet and condemn this ghastly violence instead of closing ranks and finger pointing. Is this asking too much from politicians with weeks to go to polling day…I’m really just too honest a man to be a politician and live.

  28. Now UPND has joined PF in expressing worry on the upcoming elections. Charles Kakoma their very senior Member in UPND today has expressed doubts about the fairness of these eletions. UPND supporters you have always condemned PF for pointng out ills in the system. Now your own No. 2 Mr. Kakoma has rightly expressed doubt about the whole elections. MMD does not mean well, they want to entrench their hold to power. The sooner the better for UPND to realise the common enermy is MMD despite collapse of the PACT.

  29. Useless news from thse toilet tissues.
This Chimpanzee is edeed & big chimpanzee. The police, ECZ & other pipo in charge of these things do nothing even when pipo report these things, what do you expect them to do?
You are the pipo who are causing violence cause you let pipo causing violence walk free without condemn them, PF is doing its best to make sure these years elections & free & fair elections in the history of our country.
    Shame on you chimpanzee

  30. Leave Chipenzi alone people, is that the way PF has to make sure that elections are free and fair by victimising people or seaching trucks? That is misdirecting your services my dear friends, just concetrate on door to door strategy of recruiting people to vote for your party instead of chasing ghosts in the air. Do you still belives what your president said before the nominations were done when he told the nation that he knows where MMD has hiden the ballot papers? Please stop chasing the ghost and go to where your great leader saw the papers. Is Winter now tired of giving us stories or taking the MMD to court? At least last week we heard from him now on UPND what next?

  31. #13 ENKA RASHA – Ivory Coast maybe, I don’t know much about that. But Kenya has never ever been seen as an icon of peace. Just read history. Kenya has been known to be a generally potentially violent society, and I think the days of the Mau Mau underline that. To many people that election violence wasn’t surprising. The only surprising thing was that it didn’t take down government, but also that it has taken long to begin to prosecute those responsible. Otherwise Kenya has always been and still remains a country where, at political level, you must watch what you say, where you say it, and who you say it to. The country is deeply divided on tribal lines. I mean, I don’t know where you even take your facts from. Do a bit of reading before posting.

  32. PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS
The Party shall ensure that all the public institutions, State-owned enterprises and popular mass
and similar organizations are led by persons who are members of the Party and who are
Uncompromisingly committed to achievements of the Party. This ladies and is article 3 of the pf constitution and honestly how the hell do you think you can work in a government position in a country with such a constitution, certainly you cant trust mr sata you cant trust such a man vote RB

  33. Whoever told Sata to smile on his campaign posters made a big mistake. The man looks different and PF sycophants are questioning whether ba sata is standing coz they are used to his thuggish looks not the pretence in the smile.Honestly this is my first time to see the chief kaponya smiling.

  34. BWANA CHIPENZI, ECZ HAVE CREATED FERTILE GROUND FOR SUSPICION BY INSTITING ON USING THE DISCREDITED UPG TO PRINT BALLLOT PAPERS. I HOPE CHIPENZI YOU HAVE NOT SUCCUMBED TO MMD’S FINANCIAL MUSCLE!!…LETS WAIT AND SEE…

  35. The worry about the violence is when the Bembas/PF lose in two weeks’ time.  They will take us down the Kenya/Ivory Coast route.  They think that they deserve to rule Zambia regardless of the ganja smoke-filled headless chicken they have picked for a presidential candidate.  No SATAn in State House, regardless.

  36. THE VIOLENCE WILL COME FROM MMD CADRES WHEN THEY FIND OUT THERE WILL BE NO MORE DRINKING MONEY AFTER SEPTEMBER 20TH.

THUGS LIKE BANDA WILL HAVE NO PROTECTION.

  37. #54 Kunta kinte so a justifiable mau mau war of independence in 1952 which occured once is enough to lable a society violent? And why leave out Algeria or zim if thats your criteria?Does their struggle for independence in Algeria & Zim underline their violent ways?Would you insult zambians who struggled for freedom as a “violent society”? And fyi i’m an offspring of a marriage btn a Zambian dad from CB & my mom from Ol Kalou,Kenya who met here in USA.My moms father was imprisoned for fighting foreign injustice in his homeland. So think twice when you question my facts on kenya as i have relatives in kenya & Zed.

  38. PF have been reduced to being s security firm instead of the party, Let them be gateman while we come inn and go out , they will open gate for us because they dont have anything to tell the people except of that devilish slogan of theirs.
