United Stated ambassador to Zambia Mark Storella has urged all young voters in the country to take the tripartite elections seriously.
Ambassador Storella says it is an achievement for the country to have recorded over a million new voters comprising young people.
Ambassador Storella has advised young voters not only to pay close attention to the presidential elections but also the parliamentary and local government elections.
He says it is important to make informed judgment on all their leaders regardless of their level of participation in elections as they would participate in presidential races in future elections.
Ambassador Storella observes that once young electorates make informed decisions on all their candidates, it will also be easy to make them accountable; in case they do not fulfill their campaign promises.

Good afternoon
The ambassador’s entiments are welcome but I wonder if the Zambian ambassador in the US also mingles himself in American presidential elections by urging American youths to take elections seriously? Just wondering where the boundary between diplomacy ends and where interferance into internal affairs begins…
Next thing you will hear that Obama’s campaign manager has been hired for RB. LoL.
Mr Ambassador we know you want to drive China away because of its presence in Africa. Tell us which party are you supporting in this years elections. Of recent you have come too vocal. While your message is positive to the young generation but you do have an agenda. You know the more stronger China is the more the USA weakens. China has decided to do business with Africa and suddenly all western countries are crying. We realise China has to improve the way it does business with Africa, buts lets stop playing double standards.
China is the concern. No one will run away from China. As we speak, Italy is turning to China for assistance. America is riding the storm because of Chinese money. This time America needs to understand that the tables have turned and China is taking its rightful place in the global economy.
Funny that its the US ambassador calling for zambian youths to take elections seriously.Youths in his country are so detached from politics that they vote twice as much in numbers for American Idol contestants than a US president.Come clean your own house first Mr ambassador.
Mr Ambassador just nuff off to your sophisticated underground bunker, we know you hiding Apache Gunships under that new embassy of yours, go help your President he’s got enough on his plate already. We have been eating your double standard rhetoric for years and frankly we fed up with you lot. Â
we cant do away with the chinese. they are very vital pipo in any economy, we need then. nowander rb is a wise man. he brought in the chinese befor every1 else embraced them and they have alot of faith in zambia. we will work hand in hand with them. chweeeela viva rb
All #1,#2 and #3 you are right, China has recently sent shock waves around the world and as you would expect USA is on its toes………….lol. nonetheless, some positive comments for the youth.
Ambassador storella is right and the young should take the noble cause of voting seriously. The current rules by the ECZ that most polling officers will not be allowed to vote in the stations they will be managing is irregular as it will disenfranchise a lot of these young and new voters who are the majority of those that are to be polling agents. This will also affect the police, head teachers and teachers who will be returning officers and polling station officers respectively. It is imperative to ensure that all these election polling agents are allowed to vote in stations they will be maning as they will be on duty from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours. If this is not adressed it could be viewed as some form of rigging!
By the way what is this about China, this article has not even got anything to do with Chinese youth who actually do not vote! Actually it would be nice to send some of the commentators above to China so that you learn first hand. Shaaa! Learn to debate to the article! Atase!
Where is China in the ambassadors comment? its shocking to see our level of reasoning sinking deep in virtually everything. instead of discussing the need for us being critical and pay attention to leaders at all levels including councillors as advised we are busy talking about China. Lets learn to discuss matters in their respective contexts. This is what is eating us even in discussing politics. blogs i guess are for purposes of advancing ideas in relation to what is reported and discuss accordingly. we can discuss China and it being the best economy later when an appropriate discussion comes up.
A lATEST opinion poll conducted by a group of Zambian lecturers in conjunction with Canada’s Bradford University has revealed that Michael Sata’s Patriotic Front (PF) will win this year’s elections by 55 per cent.
And then what would you gain yourself?GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.
Muyembe,
thats correct for sure.
MMd minions above didn’t read the article. U are all off topic, MMD is loosing pants down cause the youths are voting in numbers.
All the youth the choice is yours: Either to vote for the DONT KUBEBA club of the homosexuals or to vote for RB who is building more schools, collages, universities and growing the economy for more quality employment. The Choice is damm yours
THANKS AMBASADOR. RUPIAR BANDA WILL COME THIRD AFTER SATA (FIRST), AND HH IN TJIS YEAR’S ELECTIONS.
As young people do hold the very future of this country and believe me you this time we have to make the change that is needed not only for us, but for the future children who will come after us. Let us be seen to have the interest of this country at heart and not to be selfish that if we can have a million kwacha in our pockets, then all is well. Instead we should be selfless and guide the interest of this country jealously. God bless this nation.
Number 14 (PF SOURCES)if you extend a pit latrin would you boast that you have built a mansion????? What clinics, schools and university has this man built????? To most of us this man is a let down…Have you ever seen a mobile hospital in reality??? What a waste of money this man has done on that project…Its like buying a train and hoping to build a railway later!
What a bunch of childish bloggers! Just shows how far behind most Zambians are.
The Ambassodor should also inform Zambians that RB worked with the American Shushu helping savimbi, and that he is their man. This is why they have not condemned his poor governance practices. Bane, abantu nifwebo not RB. Take out RB because he is not representative of our needs as a country. You only have to look at the pictures of Shang’ombo to appreciate how RB’s corruption has messed up our country. The type and quality of infrastructure is really insulting to any person of average intelligence. This guy, RB is a real thief and crook.
#14 can you tell me in which provinces rb building colleges and universities i will appreciate if you will answer me accordingly.
#14 can you tell me in which provinces rb building colleges and universities i will appreciate if you will answer me accordingly?
Free advice yamahala. In fact I consider the local govt representation as very important. Take for instance Kabwata constituency during the rain season the area get flooded and the only link between the people and Govt are the councillors and the area MP. So the youth must turn up in big numbers and cast their votes not out of emotion but cast bearing mind the various challenges that lay ahead of them. We need a functioning local govt system as its a direct with the people at the grassroot level. If the youth make their choice by casting votes without seriusly evaluating the caliber of the contesting candidates they will have themselves to blame until 2016. There are alot issues which need urgent attention such quality education, medicare, job creation and security plus good governance.
I want to know why Sata has continued to lie about his education. He is a secondary school drop out and yet claims to have 2 degrees. He was an informer for the colonial masters. He sent a lot of Zambians to Jail and to Death during the pre-independence era as an informer for the British police. He tried to push chiluba the thief to a third term of office. He harassed the private media when he was in government. He was caught red handed with thousands of tax payers kwacha that he was to divert for an MMD convention in Kabwe. He was busted red handed at Olivar Tambo airport with thousands of dollars that he had gotten through dubious means. He is Thug and Zambia will do well to ignore him. This year Vote for HH and the real Change team. Vote for RB is you have to.
Good governance from Sata? oh my leg!Didnt he take a govt.cheque and deposited it in his personal bank account? As Governor he couldnt even build a stadium!what of the Taiwanese? We could be gambling with our lives and everything we have.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.
Most of you bloggers don’t know what you are talking about. Zambia is developing steadily and you need a stable mind and not a flip-flop like Sata. The young people are seeing development and never witnessed the Chawama massacre orchestrated by Satan. Now Satan wants to be preident, do you think the youths are there to be used? Abash Donchi Fimofimo and abash Satan! Vote RBBBBBBB and The MMD- Nafuti Nafuti. Chwee Chwee and Abash Mulongoti!!
“It’s Not the People Who Vote that Count; It’s the People Who Count the Votes”
We must strive to remove OP from any election related activity. Intelligence operatives world over in democratic nations DO NOT defraud their citizens of their votes. Zambia is surely an example where we will have to ban the intelligence dept for abusing Zambians during elections. They think that we do not know their evil deeds!
Scared MMD stinking armpits, why do you always want to campaign for your shrek even on the wrong fora? Are you too scared that you will need real jobs shortly than stealing from the Zambians that you are doing with this moron of a presido? The youth need jobs, medicare, education and social justice not William Banda lumpenising for another 5 years. We are changing government next week tuesday and it matters less what you say for our minds are set. MMD lunatics and thieves must prepare themselves to work hard and earn income normally like all of us. Mwanya you are leaving this year!
Dont vote Sata nyoko
MMD fools are on the run but Sept 20th is simply days. Good day
MMD diaspora supporters, can you tell me why the majority of bloggers are in the diaspora? Because they have run away from underdevelopment in Zambia where the majority can not even afford the internet due to untold poverty. Another reason to change the government.
Mr.ambassador your words are loud and clearly heard but you should also preach to these old leaders, politicians,NGOs and government institution to adopt or employ the youth. It is a disgrace that a vibrant youth with quality education to be roaming the streets without a job.You go to a radio station, you will find a retired newscaster, security firm a retired army general ,nearly everywhere a youth has no chance yet at the old people wants recognize Mr.youth when seeking or asking a vote.To you our leaders, you had your time its now to give chance to the young ones.
