Students from the University of Zambia (UNZA) have expressed their gratitude to the newly elected Republican President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, for fulfilling yet another campaign promise to reinstate their meal allowances. The allowances were scrapped off by the previous government, which was accused of not caring about the plight of students.
The announcement was made by Mr. Trevor Mwiinde, the UPND Deputy National Youth Chairman, who revealed that the students were overjoyed and celebrated the news by gathering at the famous “Monk Square,” where they cooked meals, shared food, and sang songs of praises to President Hichilema.
The students, who had been subjected to hunger due to the previous government’s decision, can now afford three-course meals with T-bone, beef, chicken, and fish, thanks to the new government’s decision to reinstate their meal allowances. The news was met with jubilation, with students dancing and whistling using pots, spoons, and pans.
The reinstatement of the meal allowances has also had a positive impact on the Zambian economy, with Ulendo and Yango taxi operators benefiting from the increased demand for transport services. The students have also been able to spend their money on foods and other assorted items, resulting in a boost for local businesses.
Speaking to reporters, some of the students expressed their gratitude, with one monk stating that they could now afford nice food, nice clothes, and had more money for academic use, without burdening their parents.

This is where UPND need a smart media team but they have wrong people in various positions in Cabinet and have not yet undertaken a reshuffle. I mean why should a cadre be making such announcements when there is a Govt Spokesperson and Minister.
Where is the heartless and shameless Prof. Luo who was telling students to do business to raise money on the side. This is someone who was educated via the same meal allowances she removed.

A normal Government cannot deprive students of their meal allowances.
Thank God the normal UPND Government reinstated the meal allowances.
Question is where will the money come from to sustain this? Freebies are long gone and not sustainable. I would rather they strengthened the economy and encouraged these big babies to work some temporal jobs while they study.
The dependence syndrome in Zambia is rife. These students think they can’t do any part-time menial jobs because they think they are too good and want to be managers with zero experience when they graduate. Teach them the value of hardworking while they are still at college. Kids here as young as 13 years work in Macdonald’s and KFC to earn their own pocket money.
And UNZA has really lost its prestige. Who could have thought that you could set up fires in front of Monk Square and start cooking? Cooking used to be done indoors on cooking stoves. Wow, unbelievable!
This were we are now, poverty has been instilled in most of the people. How can you have students from the most “‘prestigious” university accepting such nonsense? Part of the problem we have apart from politicians, is educated morons from UNZA,CBU etc….these institutions no longer produce graduates but job seekers with zero exposure. They have big brains like the pots in the pic but not smart. Their ambition is to eat good food period…..They cant even fight for simple things like poor sanitary conditions at the their campus.
