Government scraps fuel levy

Share

Zambia will scrap a levy on fuel used to fund strategic reserves, which will now be the sole responsibility of the government, Energy Minister Christopher Yaluma said on today.

“The onus of holding fuel will go into the hands of government. The government will take that risk and will ensure that we do not have shortages. Right now the government has ensured that storage facilities are built across the country,” Yaluma told a media briefing.

He said as a result, the price of petrol would drop to K 8,155 Zambian per litre from K 8,647 a litre while that for diesel would be reduced to K7,566 per litre with effect from midnight.

  1. Government is back in business, shame. Business should be left to business people. This excess control with make the climate suspicious.

    • Business is about profits period. The sooner people realize that the better for the common good of society. Everything good should have a balance, especially things of strategic importance. Zambia as a developing country needs to protect itself from the effects of capitalism, otherwise any gains made wont trickle down to the masses, as we have been punished in the copper mines. Learn from the Nordic countries and Switzerland.

    • you must be dull and unread chap living oversees. American govt is responsible of oil reserves and 2 yrs ago Obama had to plead with congress to allow him offload some oil in order to cushion the impact of the global financial crisis. Are u telling us that US is in business? Understand the context of the reduction. Govt ll not be selling fuel but rather they ll be responsible for the issues of strategic reserves. Be objective!

  2. Good news! However, you can do better. At least a dollar or less! Now that Parliament is on, can the leader of govt His Hon. Vice President tell the house what they mean by ruling using 10 commandments. If not well articulated there can be abuse. Presidency is an institution guided by rules. Is ruling by 10 commandments personal or govt position?

    • The 10 commandments are universal and upon which every great democracy has been built directly or indirectly, stealing, lying (perjury) murder etc.. you can enforce the last 6 to some extent but the first four are a matter of personal spiritual and moral values..

  3. We still need to investigate RB`s sons. We know what happened with fuel. For now well done H.E MCS.

  4. #1 You cant appreciate the reduction on fuel prices? Why leave bussiness in the hands of few thieves. Stupit. learn to appreciate.

  5. Most of these taxes we pay just used go to fund MMD corruption and MMD activities. Look now MMD cannot even pay rentals when they have no access to our money. If efficiently used the government can afford to lower taxes without injuring their coffers and without much upset on economic indicators such as exchange rates inflation.
I am waiting for Bootliker and friends to show up here if they

  6. wise realist, wat are you tokn abt,if the american have realised that you cnt leave evrythng in the hands of business pipo. who are we not to do likewise.viva HE

  7. Here is a government working for you, this good news for everyone especially business ie truckers, this may even reduce cost of food…are you still counting down???

  8. This govt is really setting itelf up for disaster. How sure are they that they will always have the money to fund strategic resewrves? Do they honestly think that Levy Mwanawasa was dull to have introduced the levy? It was the same levy that funded road works. What difference does a change of K400 on price make in the long term? I’m really worried for our economy. This govt has absolutely no clue, it is just enacting populist policies that do not make sense. Already I understand that secretely the mining companies have decided not to expand their operations anymore, and I have no doubt that over the next few years we will see credible investors selling off to rogue investors due to this heavy govt involvement in business. The Kwacha is already tumbling down like a waterfall…

    • You should have said in the short term. In the long term K400 is alot of money. I am sure you don’t own a car so to you K400 is nothing. well guess what its bundle to some of us!

    • Sata knows that Zambia is not as poor a country as the world knows it.Imagine copper exports account for 3/4 of all zambia’s exports and only contribute 1/10 of the revenue!where does the money go?so he wil recover the money and we can enjoy being Zambians once again.Where I live govt controls the efuel prices including bus fares,so we hoping for the best.

    • The bloggers on this threat are comical, fuel reduction is not about getting free services. 1 For those with high mileage on a monthly basis will feel the benefit. 2 and most importantly in Zambia the price of fuel was artificially high therefore directly contributing to the cost of doing business in the country. You say mining is YOUR priority industry, ask yourselves how much it costs to keep the Catapillars, Komatsu and BELL earth movers running 24/7. how much do you think the food reserve agency was spending in collect from remote farmers, how much do you think it costs to transport YOUR copper from Kitwe to Durban??? YOU don’t have ports everything you move in and out of the country is road freight, not to mention your tobacco and cotton, that has to be moved from the farmer

    • @10 Gokigo. Shame on you my fellow citizen.if  you ever feel like commenting again, read through all the blogs first of all, try to do some research on them and then  make your comment. its a shame once more, at this age  of era you are  failing to have simple facts about our economy, ministry of energy facts and indeed what is on the table in the sub region. i fear you will pass on that dull mentality to your offspring, which i don’t want.

  9. ERB had too many charges, including 10% road levy on every litre which you and I know was not being used for the intended purpose. Its not Govt meddling in business but just removing a useless charge that was open to abuse and misapplication. Good move, let RDA lobby for funds through the normal budget process.

  10. can they reduce PAYE quickly please 35% is too high and then you pay VAT on almost everything but this is a good start

  11. Wise Realist,

I dont think you hav understood the issue, the fuel levy for the Strategi Fuel Reserve was still being collectd by Government and managed by Government, oil dealers were only agents. Lets not just criticise for the sake of it. What they are trying to address is reducing the cost of fuel in the country, which has been a pain to motorists and makes doing business in the coutnry, unnecessarily costly.
It is a welcome move, though the reduction sounds modest!!!

  12. already you understand that that secretely the mining companies have decided not to expand their operations anymore, who are you stupit *****

  13. Kaunda-economics is back. Sata is practicing economic theory from the 1950s and 1960s. Imwe bakaponya and PF cadres, brace yourselves. We have noted your blog names, we will see what you will be saying in a year’s time when the economy has tanked and you are suffering. RDA can’t lobby for funds through the normal budget process….zambia has no extra money that is why the levy was introduced, imwe bakapanya. You PF chaps are so dull…we will kill you if Sata kills our economy. Becareful. You have inherited a healthy economy from MMD and you have been messing it up from day one. Otherwise in 2016 there will be war…may be even before that. Don’t forget that more than half of the population of zambia didn’t vote for Sata. Mukapusa mwanya!

    • Number 18. You foolish prophet of doom. We will be here years from now and no problems will be there. We will succeed, we will prosper as a nation.

    • Just go and look for a job you moron! Akalilo kapwile 2 weeks ago. Wanya mafi yobe. You thought you would just be stealing from the people like that?

    • iwe chikala chalikukalipa, niwe chi mmd? wanya no more mmd the next presindent for zambia is going to be chipimo junior after 3 terms of pf in power.ulefwaya ngu taulefwaya nisosa

    • So you are now admitting that Zambia has no money yet at the same time you say the mmd has left a healthy economy. You must be very dull,Well this Govt is just trying to correct so many wrong things that the previous Govt has left.By the way, You are sounding like William Banda or Broken record with your limited knowledge about the economy of this country.

  14. Most of us who voted do not own vehicles. Transporters have not reduced fares how does a poor man like me benefit by this small change?

  15. The lower the fuel the cheaper it is for businesses to operate. In the long term trade will increase and goverment will get its money back. Zambia fuel is so expensive country that countries go to places like Zimbabwe or South Africa to fuel their planes or trucks … this is a loss of business for Zambia. Zambia is too expensive compared to other countries and fuel has something to do it.

  16. Bravo Minister! When it reaches 1 dollar a litre you were be MP even after 2016. How about Pay As You Earn (Paye)? More money in our pockets!

  17. #19 mind tyop error I meant Zambia fuel is so expensive that countries go to places like Zimbabwe or South Africa to buy fuel for their planes or trucks.

  18. MMD crooks were pocketing people’s hard-earned money and some of you have the cheek to criticise every positive steps this government takes.

  19. Besides, there where too many middlemen in the handling of fuel procurement and the can of worms is just opening. I can assure you that the process of getting fuel into the country is overwhelmingly corrupt such that its just impossible to imagine. Just wait for people’s names to start coming out both at the Ministry and ERB, not forgetting State House. Sit back and enjoy.

  20. #18 just relax and do not be scared. there will be no war in 2016 and no one will be suffering. The only thing that will happen is more and mo of yr poor brothers and sisters will have improved lives and will vote for PF. The kwacha is complaining because of the price of copper on the International market and investors held own to the dollar during elections. Things will be fine coz copper is predicted to shoot up and the investors will resume normal operations soon. We all need to settle. even Sata needs to settle.

  21. #10,does it mean in that only business men or investors are supposed to benefit from all business transactions in a capitalist environment? Capitalism in haunting U.S.have you seen those pipo protesting at wall street? they are saying that, you had to bail out banks and elites but us we’ve continued to suffer.

  22. hahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why don’t these losers appreciate what the government is doing for once, all they write is to critize, this is just the beginning of the 90days. Botswana is subsidising on fuel and their economy is good, why can’t we try also? i think some people are just critising for the sake of doing so or because they are dull. this government wants to reach out to all the people including in Lundazi and most remote places than people eating alone in Lusaka and for political campaigns. All i can say now is either you are with us or the plunderers.

  23. I took note of your campaign promises and I will keep reminding you. Don’t Kubeba 90days is going! This is still more Congo. Bring it further down!

  24. This is very funny, sometimes we just buy fuel not realising its this expensive!!!! c’mon guys bring some sanity into this, you can surely do better than this. This is absolutely ridiculous, what is indeni there for kanshi. our neighbours dont have refineries but they pay way less than we are doing. i really dont know what keneth konga and hibajeni were up to……………….

  25. #18, I am talking from a point of know, not your tantrums from wherever your are…being emotional will not take away from the fact that fuel pa Zed is the most expensive in the region, beating even Zimbabwe. Our system is too corrupt and ineffective, it needs a lot of overhauling both in terms of personnel and procedure. Ikalenifye ukokwine you economic refugee, ifwe nangu fyazanda tatu baanda!!

    • Ba 35, u r right infact its more expensive than Malawi a country without a pipeline. The problem is that pipo jst love criticizing even wen there is nothing to criticise.

  26. Only those crooks and those who were benefitting from the same will not apriciate the adjustment of fuel price. K400.00 is a lot if you are buying in bulk, it will make a difference. Go go go PF so as nothing remains for UPND.

  27. I was hoping they will reduce up to K5000. what is K400? hope these people know what they are doing and i only hope, the minister consulted before making this announcement!

    • baby, unless if you say you either being looked after or you are married and usually fire fight with the  way you run family and look after or other wise. its too basic to think like that. open up.

  28. Am really disappointed with people who cannot appreciate this move. This shows that corruption was deep rooted, and there many beneficiaries who cannot accept that the cost of living for Zambia is being reduced. Next, scrap carbon tax, which is day light theft. Zambia does not need carbon tax.

  29. #18 PROPHET OF DOOM. WHY SO NEGATIVE??? PLEASE THIS IS GOOD FOR BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT.

THE GOVT NEEDS TO ADJUST MORE AREAS OF THE ECONOMY THAT AFFECT THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS IF HE IS TO JUSTIFY THE INCREASE IN MINIMUM WAGE.

  30. PF at wrk we want more changes 2 be implimented by yo govt mr president , we the zambian pipo have suffered enough under MMD govt. we ur all behind u and 2 support u in wat u ur doing so far with few day’s in office. Go foward PF.

  31. #25, you have cooled my temper with regard to what #18 wrote.

whats wrong with these guys? what do we want as zambians?

    expensive fuel or cheaper fuel?

anyway some people are born fools.

  32. #18 you do not understand a single thing about anything. The price of petrol in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Mauritius etc is K4900.00 per liter. How far is Zambia from some of these countries for the price to even be K8100.00 after reduction? When the fuel price is even further reduced, the mine taxes adjusted upwards, the banks have agreed to reduce the cost of borrowing (interest rates). That means that even you as dafty as you are, you will borrow and create a business that will succeed due to reduced cost of inputs such as fuel. That translates into economic growth and thus job creation. Now God gave you since independence a PF government which thinks. Learn to appreceate and most of all, just look if you can. You seem to be blind.

  33. THE REDUCTION IS THE ACTUAL LEVY, MEANING THEY WILL REDUCE MORE BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR WAUNFWA OPPOSITION MMD/ UPND CADER

  34. I have noticed some cadres here just praise for the sake of it..Have we tried to calculate what the reduction translates to?….I reduction of K492.this is an insult atleast if it was reduced to K4500 i would have said GRZ is working.
PF is just fooling its foolish cadres who are uneducated who cant do simple arithmetics.

  35. on this site, it looks MMD cadres have stopped thinking. unfortunately PF is here for another 20yrs, you better learn to leave with it baba.

  36. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE FUEL IMPORTATION DOCUMENTS DONE BY FBZ FROM 2006 till 2008. YOU WILL FIND FBZ CHARGED 5700 TO THE $ WHILE THE EXCHANGE RATE WAS BETWEEN 3800 AND 4100. A LETTER OF CREDIT WAS OPENED ON A MONTHLY BASSIS TO A VALUE OF $40 MILLION SO FBZ MADE A CLEAN PROFIT OF K76BILLION ON THE EXCHANGE RATE EVERY MONTH. IS THIS NOT THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLES MONEY. DO WE WANT TO PULL OUT CORRUPTION FROM THE ROOTS OR NOT. WYNTER DO YOUR JOB. DOCUMENTS OF THESE LETTERS OF CREDIT ARE IN ERB, BOZ, MINISTRY OF FINANCE, MINISTRY OF ENERGY AND FBZ. WE WANT TO KNOW THE FUEL PURCHASE TRANSACTIONS THROUGH FBZ. WE WANT TO KNOW WHY BOZ MOVED INTO FBZ

  37. Excellent!

Cut out the “fuel middlemen” who are amassing untold wealth on the backs of the poor Zambian struggling to survive.

  38.  @29
Totally agree with you. Let it be 5000 or equivalent of 1 dollar. PF work hard this not good enough. Still waiting for a reduction as this reduction is from removal of a tax. When are we going to have real reduction? PF Cabinet PAYE is still too high!!!!!!!!!

  39. All you morons whining about Sata are terrible losers, what more can you please ask for, Zambia,s fuel is the most expensive in the region, this makes the cost of doing business much more expensive, what the PF govt has done is just to scrap off an unnecessary levy and you are crying foul……loooosers!!!! Viva Sata, made in Chituluka village

  40. If this was well thought out then good job PF. But if it is another hastily done move like the metal export saga then it will be regrettable.

  41. At the rate things are going? no. 38 might be overestimating the power of people to change. Most of the campaign promises excited people but for an economy which is dependent on external forces/shocks the promises may never be realised. Very soon even the so called donors will start talking about governance , constitution, investors interests etc

  42. #18 People and RB were saying Sata will bring war wen voted,do c war ? in less than 90 days we have seen change.we know u r MMD but your critics aren’t too good

  43. “Zambia will scrap a levy on fuel used to fund strategic reserves which will now be the sole responsibility of the government “.

Before we get too carried away with excitement, lets think again what this means.

Funding strategic reserves is an expensive exercise. Does the govt have competence to do a good job of it? Are you sure?

    • Well@56, i have been following your quite mature and analyzable comments of late. I may differ with you on this one, you seem not to be in a management /strategical firm i intuitively think. on this this i suppose, people had really done their homework during campaign time, and not only that they people have learned people who had been advising  even from way back. its shocking to note and for your information, Zambia is rated to have the most and well documented literature on model solutions to the African,South American and 3rd world Asian countries , but yet poorly implemented.yet, it would take a smart mind less than 3 hours to implement what is already.

  44. Good move. hope its a sign of better things to come. Am no PF cadre though. whatever happens i pray that this government avoids getting into the trap of introducing socialist policies to please lazy bums who want something for doing nothing. its now time to work hard and earn more money. there should be no room for wishful thinking. Good policies + rule of law + hardwork = better lives for deserving zambians.

  45. if u stay in poverty for too long,u start to thinkin in that line for the rest of yo lyf.wu says u cant try diffrent strategiz to sort out certain issues,am sayin dont hesitate to risk it smtimes.Zambia is lyk this cz of yo atitude and mine. by the way dont think school meks u bright,i mean no mata hw mch qulification uv aquired its o just a basic and if u tek it wit u forever u’l only learn how to solve pre-solved algebra yo entire lyf and wait for others to discover somethin, its high time we got jacked up and learn to solve it our way. by the way,Gud move there.

  46. Shi Mwansa we are waiting for real reduction as this is just removal of tax. reduce price then you will receive -Excellent!

  47. imwe bafiwa ba MMD tamwishibe ati elyo twatampa ukubomba.imbushi shinenu we have chased from govt used to increase prices slowly SHAME,PF go go we are behind you ba MMD expect more reductions.MWAUFWA

  48. #49 you are right,no matter how bad things they talk about PF you are a finished party which will never exist again.VIVA PF, VIVA PABWATO

  49. @36
Why is it that when someone praises the government you label them a PF cadre? K400 may sound little to because you probably have a tricycle with a 3L tank but this is massive reduction to Road Haulers and bus owners. Give it time whilst things stabilise and the hemorrhaging is stopped we will get there.

  50. Kabili efyo tulelanda. Imbushi mu Zed shingi. How can you cry foul when infact the reduction is not even adequate and I know after ERB has been investigated, it will be even further reduced. With a pipeline and a refinery and you are paying K8100.00 per liter. But ba MMD niba kabolala yeeee. I hope the party dies and get erased like UNIP from the house of legislature. VIVA PF. VIVA Sata. VIVA thinking government.

  51. BUT CHI #18 SO IN YOUR RIGHT FRAME OF MIND YOU THINK THIS COUNTRY IS IN A BETTER STATE? THIS COUNTRY HAS BEEN RUN-DOWN AND YOU ARE BUSY SAYING FYOTO FYOTO… DO YOU KNOW MUCH RB’S SONS WHERE MAKING FORM THOSE DEALS…. MAYBE YOU WHERE ONE OF THE PEOPLE BENEFITING FROM OUR SWEAT…

  52. Why is Zambian fuel prices higher than other countries’ in the region? Can someone please educate us.

While we wait, it s reasonable to say Zambia’s landlocked position mean landed costs of importing goods is higher than those closer to the sea. Secondly, Indeni refinery is expensive to run. It was configured for the 1970s when copper production required a lot of Heavy Fuel Oil for smelting. That is not the current market. This is why they have to add refined petrol and diesel to crude oil feedstock going into Indeni ie adding already expensive refined products to crude oil. This means comingled crude oil fed to Indeni is expensive, more expensive than refineries in the region. Indeni is old, losses are high. Govt fuel tax is a large component of the fuel price. etc etc

  53. MMD cadres we understand you are biter after the loss, how can u complain of a 400 reduction when you fools were in power you did nothing?watch from the outside as PF  is working and try to rectify the damage you did for 20 years,if i were u i would be ashamed even to comment on such developments, how can zimbabwe have cheap fuel than zambia?upuba muleke a kolwe imwe.

  54. Chris Mwayesako, you are spot on!!!, this govt is just removing the obvious cobwebs before getting down to the nitty-gritties, we need to be a bit patient with them as running govt is much more involving. good start PF, man of action as ever! no honeymoon for sure

  55. This country has suffered long enough because of lack of political will and now there is abandance of it and some people are still not happy – WOW!!!

  56. #56 contd. Modern refineries are more efficient than old ones like Indeni. Mind that Tazama transports crude oil all the way from Dar to Ndola. This is expensive. Tazama itself is an old facility. While you compare regional fuel prices, it would help to look at gegraphical issues, oil infrastructure issues, govt taxation, refinery technologies (e.g Indeni cannot process Angolan crude oil but must import from the Middle East).

If you can swallow it, it is cheaper to import fuel than to buy it from Indeni. Put another way, Zambia is better off without Indeni, economically. But not politically of course.

    There you go then!

  57. UK-Zed Observer, the overheads the price of fuel that the PF govt is addressing (and I am very happy) very quickly are the reason fuel is expensive in Zed. Coupled, corruption added where very high ranking govt. officials in previous governments would even go to the extent of gutting Indeni so that they can enter into pertnerships with foreigners and use them as fronts to supply fuel at very exorbitant prices to Zed. Let the investigations into ERB finish and you will see how rotten the procurement system is and it must be stopped because it impedded a lot of progress. High cost of doing business for a lot, transporters, farmers etc including the mines. This has to be the first thing to sort out followed by taxation of the mines. After this, the taxes on the mines will relieve the ord

  58. #61 contd. As for the govt taking responsibility of strategic reserves, one needs to remember that this means tying huge amounts of money into fuel stocks. Where is the govt going to get that money, could be millions of dollars. Also you need money to build the infrastructure and to manage the reserves – you may need to hire an OMC or other independent specialised companies to do that for you. May be Indeni or Tazama.

Need to factor in political interference. Get the picture? Wouldnt it better left to oil companies? Just give them incentives to build up startegic reserves.

  59. I am only anxiously waiting for the revised labour act.imagine one working for seven to nine years just paid two months pay for each year served. Is it that a mockery? At least if it can be changed to 3 months for those who have worked for over five years up to nine years. And 3 & half months pay for those with over ten years of service. And fpr those who have worked for 2 to 5 years should be paid two months for each year served.in way workers will be enjoying the fruits of there labour.May the working govt of ba kateka Ba Sata wesu look into this.

  60. ordinary tax payer of PAYE. This is the PF formula and it will work and work miracles even for the doubting Thomases. The banks said they could not reduce the cost of borrowing in the absence of a driving force to buttress themselves on such reduced cost of fuel. The two fuel and mine taxes will spiral unprecedented economic growth in Zambia and I believe at the end of 2 years or even before, Zambia will never be the same. Ofcourse, corruption remains the most critical aspect to get rid of with the seriousness it deserves in order to realise these projections. I am very glad, HE Michael Sata came in on a bundle as far as corruption is concerned and they are still coming. Zambia will never be the same. The country has changed, and change the people got indeed.

  61. #76 GK Thanks for that. Its a pity that we have so much corruption. people, will always bend the rules or break the system just to pursue their corrupt practices.

Why are we corrupt? Very sad.

  62. imwe ba mmd/ upnd,

this gvt has just started working, give it time maybe after 90 days we will listen to you. as at now, things look promising, infact very promising.

  63. If you are not happy with this reduction why dont you and your family members boycott buying fuel at Zambian service stations and re-fuel either in Zimbabwe or Tanzania.Better think before you seat on your own balls.

  64. If the export earnings plummet, they will re-introduce. lets wait and see how copper does and how many tonnes they will be able to sell this year.

  65. #79 GK good you have mentioned mining tax there. It is a scandle, this current tax. We should not be afraid of the foreign mine investors, that they will run away. They wont. We just need to be bold and squeeze their fat necks till they cough out more tax money for us. We should get behind our president on this!

I hear we have a lot of Chinese and Indians doing donkey jobs in the mines. Scandle. KK would not allow that, I believe Sata is patriotic and a from the freedom fighter generation. These are the kind of people who can tell off foreigners. I trust Sata is able to sort out these Indians and Chinese miners. We need jobs for our people and more money from the mines.

  66. Those of you who think all businees must be in private hands need to consider the sin of greed and selfishness. These are the main tenets that drive capitalism. How is it that China a so called communist country is now the envy and darling of the capitalist west? Stop and think. I am not suggesting we go communist but I am saying if private business abuses and exploits the people, then Government have every right to takeover whatever industry is being abused. Dont follow blindly the theories taught in universities.

  67. Good afternoon

There we go again. The government makes a good move to alleviate the price burden on fuel consumers by bearing the risk and all some people can do is start complaining again.

While you’re busy debating whether government should have any role in controlling fuel prices, the fastest growing economies like China, India or Brazil are all using government policy to regulate distribution and consumption of their national reserves.

  68. #85 UK-Zed Observer, you didn’t know that as soon as Sata was sworn in, the Chinese and Indians increased salaries for their employees on the copperbelt on their own. Even before the action starts. They corrupted their way from RB to the lowest decision maker in govt but Chinese/Indians have that trend of doing business. The South Africans complained that they could not compete with the Chinese who start with the Head of State as opposed to following procedure. Just wait, the new Presido is working. God has finally answered our prayers.

  69. good move, reducing the cost of doing business in the country, its good for business, for ordinary people and it is not bad for anyone who is normal. Thanks visionary SATA!

  70. People like Mathani are also culprits in exploitation of Zambians. Scrutinize some of the contracts that Bank handled in the past. He was a legalized extortionist.

  71. This is a move that is bound to resonate very well with every right thinking Zambian. My only concern is that it is time they started telling and showing us how they are going to grow the economy. The MMD government left $2.5 billion in the bank. Let us see them build on that with their policies in order to prove every doubter wrong. Government is about creation of jobs, growing the economy, increasing both internal and external investment, providing education to our children and a lot more.

  72. Wise realist u dnt seem wise and realistic, if the new grz had announced an increase in fuel prices wr u going to celebrate? I guese no, they announce a reduction and u complain, ar u alright? Anyway i shld encourage progressive zambians not to listen to such pipo bcz as long as sata remains president, nothing he does will ever make them happy. The little serving will go a long way in the long run.

  73. I can not rejoice to have fuel sold at ZMK8,100 because it is still within the US$2. We do still expect cost of production to be high. We want it to be equivalent to a US Dollar. Thats real money in the pocket.

  74. I believe any reduction in the cost of business is an ideal situation for every business man. This reduction should be a reason for celebration for every patriotic Zambian. Please let us encourage HE Sata and gov’t by appreciating the good things they are doing, so that they can do much better.

  75. Ba sakalanyongo tulefwaya PAYE to go down not this Fuel Levy.Understand a Levy and Tax before you make a comment.Tax is most criritical one cause it affects many.A levy is directed toward a certain commodity or scenario that is not we want.

  76. GK tomba nokoo, compare th economies of these countries to you village called zambia, bafitole it wont even take 4 months before your bubble of misguided euphoria bursts.we witnessed it in 91 and this time it will be worse

  77. Number 70, partly because we are further than other countries so transportation cost is higher, secondly, the way we run our economy is efficient- too much waste, thirdly more middle men, and lastly the exchange rate which is higher compared to the countries mentioned in the region. There is the other one levies and taxes too. That is why the move by govt is good except we must ask ourselves, when they say govt will take over, where will the money in the long run come from? Govt makes money through taxes. At one point tax may still go up either in the business or personal. Foreign govts that provide budget support may not be willing to continue. we are sitting at 40% budget support every year. By the way RSA fuel from Wednesday is R10.98 which is K7686/litre

  78. #96, but surly you do not expect everything to turn around overnight. Every journey begins with a step. So what the PF Govt has done is a step of a great journey of putting more money into the pockets. No Genius anywhere in the world can come to Zambia today and reduce fuel to $1 per litre overnight!!!

  82. The bloggers on this threat are comical, fuel reduction is not about getting free services. YOU don’t have ports everything you move in and out of the country is road freight, not to mention your tobacco and cotton, that has to be moved from the farmer…..

  83. We’re a group of volunteers and opening a new scheme in our community. Your website provided us with helpful info to work on. You’ve done an impressive process and our entire neighborhood will probably be grateful to you.
