The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has ruled out the possibility of a lot of maize having gotten soaked and damaged in the recent rains reported in various parts of the country.

FRA Public Relations Officer, Mwamba Siame claims that reports of some maize going to waste is not reflective of the holistic picture across the country.
Meanwhile, the FRA has regretted the destruction of maize in a fire that gutted the FRA shed in Chadiza.

Ms. Siame clarifies that the fire was caused by a fumigation chemical when it came in to contact with rain water.

And Ms. Siame has disclosed that 41 contractors have been engaged by her organization to construct produce storage slabs.

The project once completed is expected to create 450,000 metric tons of storage space for the bumper maize crop.

She says the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

Meanwhile, Food Reserve Agency (FRA) Public Relations Officer, Mwamba Siame has also disclosed that a task force has been constituted to ascertain the quality of maize available across the country for exports.

She says maize export is being considered in view of excess maize on the market arising from the carryover from previous season harvest.

  1. Mwaba nomulekelesha ba FRA. Lwenu, ine nalishisha amata yandi, ico ndefwayafye ni ndalama. Sata takamuleke ngamwayamba ubonaushi bwamusango uyu. He has already said that he is not a gentleman like rupiah bwezani banda, the father of all zambians including thieves. So expect more from him

  2. Whats the storage capacity? Can it supply food for lets say 5 years in case of aprolonged drought? Why all this talk of exporting maize? Our maize is the real wealth, keep it, trasform into stockfeed or cheapen mealie meal price by keeping in zambia, introduce free breakfast to kids n schools or something, why export maize ? Food is now a big issue in the world.

  3. The same way fuel costs 30 cents per litre in middle east where they have lots of it, byproducts of maize should be real cheap cause we are a mass producer. Maize is gold. dont export it without thinking.

  4. I got a few botswana friends who say farmers get paid for farming in botswana, just for tillling a few cubic metres of land, dont exploit our hardworking farmers by underpaying them the real market price of their produce. And please can someone ban importation of locally available produce into shops like shoprite ans pick n pay . Why are we promoting south african farmers and economy? They should only sell stuff thats not available in zambia.

  5. @Zambia,yes indeed.Lets ban the imports of any products readily available in Zambia.
Only stuff that do not agree with our weather (Apples) can be sourced by companies like shoprite from outside.
This will empower our farmers and generate local employment.
With over 50% of fresh waters in the SADC region lying in Zambia,we can be African bread basket.

  6. The oranges in Shoprite from South Africa taste like cardboard.
Where is the sweet juices in them…Will never buy again.

  7. Everyone is pulling their weight in government institutions no more lazing about or else you get the CHOP!!!
    New culture being ashed in!!

  8. sata should remove some deputy high commissioners they have over stayed. he is only removing ambassodors. their deputies have over stayed. all those whose contracts have ended let them came back to pay way for fresh ones and not nkalmbaa namwe pliz. you are appointing older guys. whay the young ones ones..the whole governemnt is full of people over seventy years. nanga see lomba. and not put bembas chabe pliz

  9. This may be out of context but there are some thefts and irregularities in Kalomo during the distribution of fertilisers. The FRA and extension officers share fertilisers in large amounts leaving almost nothing for farmers. Already FRA officer in Knachele area is saying he has made an arrangement of getting about 800 bags of fertilisers this year and he is going to sell some of it. I do not hide but his name is ROY MULEYA and he is not alone. The system of sharing fertilisers is rotten and not acceptable. The PF government act now and if there is anyone who knows where I can report this matter, please give me details here and I will take it up. I am angry seeing people stealing from villagers and want action take place.

  10. I appeared that on the internet~~`I can find the ways to solve my problem~~~ most people will associate with along with your website.
