FAZ Statement: Renard appointed Zambia coach

FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA SETTLES FOR HERVE RENARD AS TRAINER OF THE ZAMBIA NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM BUT SUBJECT TO FURTHER CONSULTATION WITH VARIOUS STAKEHOLDERS INCLUDING GOVERNMENT

 

Following extensive consultations and deliberations with various stakeholders and partners, the Football Association of Zambia is pleased to announce that it has settled for Mr Herve Renard as new head trainer of our Chipolopolo; the Zambia National Soccer Team.

This appointment is however subject to further consultation with various stakeholders including the government and Mr Renard’s acceptance of the offer to once again coach the Zambia National Team.

The Executive Committee (ExCo) arrived at this decision considering sentiments from well wishers and other stakeholders on the need to identify a coach who can take charge of the team leading up to Africa Cup finals 2012. The ExCo also considered the time between now and the start of the 2012 finals and the need to select a trainer who would be in a position to settle in quickly and deliver a successful championship. Mr Renard was therefore considered the best option from amongst a very competitive group of coaches from around the world.

At the time of issuing this statement, FAZ President Kalusha Bwalya and General Secretary George Kasengele were scheduled to meet the Minister of Labour and Sport Honourable Fackson Shamenda to officially brief him of this decision.

Mr Renard, who will be offered a one-year contract to compete for the Africa Cup title and commence the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June 2012 will be assisted by Mr. Patrice Beaumelle while Honour Janza will form part of his local technical staff. Mr. Janza will be with the team for the period of the preparation and competition in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Football House is very confident that with the selection of Mr. Renard, our Chipolopolo will be very competitive at the Nations Cup and will effectively compete for the title. We keep our eyes on the ball and remain focused and steadfast in taking our game to the highest levels possible – goals and objectives of which are clearly spelt out in our vision and mission of being at the pinnacle of the game on the continent.

As we thank the government, partners, sponsors and all stakeholders for wonderful collaboration and support, we call upon the fans and nation to rally with Mr Renard and support the team which we have undertaken to prepare adequately for the 2012 finals so that we can have a successful tournament.

Further, we wish to thank the dozens of coaches worldwide, including most recent expressions of interest from an Ivorian, who expressed interest in the job. Their willingness to take up the Zambia coaching job was a clear demonstration of the high rating and competitiveness of our team and football.

  1. this kind of doing things will take us nowhere. if at all there was any reason for letting of renard last year why take him again a year after? cry my beloved country, the drama continues.

    • We have no time my friend. This was for the purpose being that we have few months to go to afcon. Therefore, a new coach will surely take time to know our players and hence it was going to be a good excuz for our failing ku afcon. Lets just give him good suport.

Any logical reasoner and fair-minded individual will acknowledge that the move FAZ has made to reappoint HR is the most logically correct especially if we consider our current circumstance.  Yes HR might have ditched us for Angola, but how many of us would turn down  a job that pays more,especially, if the job description is equivalent to our current job.  Thus, let us be critical thinkers about the reappointment of HR and refrain from basing our little insignificant subjective opinions solely for the reason that he ditched us.     • so should he come accross a better offer he dump us again and it will be fine with you?let us take a long term plan and train local coaches it will be fine.most of the world teams that do well have local coaches cant you see?a local coach best understand our nation not thesse opportunists

    • I think you are speaking from the blues! If you are a logical reasoner, you will know that a coach who is lured by a job that pays well and ditches the one he has, has no passion for the team. He does not respect the people he is working for. Our former President RB even pleaded for this guy to stay but he disrespected that call. The only reason he is coming back to Zambia is because he has been unsuccessful wherever he has gone. He failed the Angolans and others. Its not about him being a good coach for I bet there are other good coaches who applied for the job and who have much experience than Renard. Its just because we Zambians like people who fool around with us. What we need is a stable coach who is willing to be with us and respect us. Thats the logic not yours!

    • Zedian, you seem pretty confused and disorientated about the underlying meaning on which my comment rests upon. Clearly, you lack the rudimentary tools that are necessary for a logical reasoning aptitude. Thus, I’ll help you out. The inference in my argument only pertains to the current situation in which our soccer team is under. We are in a race against time to get our boys well equipped and with our fingers crossed, competitive for the nations cup. In support of my argument, its logical to appoint HR in this time pressuring moment for the reason that he knows the lads and has more understanding of the current dynamics of Zambian soccer than any other expatriat coach out there.  Also your response presents unnecessary matters about RB that fail to match literate reasoning structure.

  8. Renard brings out the best of the defense. The defense may keep a clean sheet but I don’t know if he has found that niche with the strikers as a coach. Can he do it? Absolutely,he will try and take Zambia further than the penalty shoot out with Nigeria. Congratulations Herve and Patrice.

  13. #6 Well said & agree with you. When you critically look at the time frame before the AFCON, we need to have a coach who understands the Zambian game and the players & in this instance HR is the best option.

  15. Erick should have told who else applied. We all know that there are good coaches who may not have coached zambia before but do understand our players very well. For example the coach for supersport utd is SA did express interest b4 bonetti was picked and i think he did the same this time around. His team plays zambian players almost every weekend and he is also an average coach just like Renard.

  21. The wording in the press statement sounds Kalu’s, I wouldn’t be surprised if “all well wishers and stakeholders” are all rolled into one KALU.
    I wonder why we are bringing back the BLUE colour in our national team, may be some people did not notice that HR was allergic to our national colours. The only time he wore green was at the last AFCON in Angola, his colours were blue and white.

  27. Very hopeless decision by FAZ if you ask me. This is the same chap who after doing relatively well with our squad – basically growing together with the young squad – he thought he was now the best and we were beneath him. Alas, his mercenary act failed to pay off as he was sacked by Angola within a short period of time. So here we are again and history will repeat itself as when Zambia does well he will take a hike. A Zambian coach should have been appointed as they would have our interest at heart

  29. Potentially, Zambia has a pool of very good players all over the world. To tap into this pool, the GRZ just needs to enact dual nationality. We shall then be in a position to win honours for the beloved Country. Re-appointing coaches wont take us anywhere. Dont like this guy.Last ACN he aimed at reaching the second round untill the players convinced him that they can evcen reach the quarter finals.I dont like him.He is busy telling players that they are no better meanwhile in football anything can happen.Ask Nigeria,Egypt etc.All these countries have fallen to zambia before.Who is Renard to tell us that we are bad in football?Moreover if we are then he should go elsewhere

  37. Ubupuba bwalicila mu Zambia. Bushe are there no Zambians who can do just as well? Patrick Phirr was doing just fine. The problem is that Zambians hate seeing other Zambians doing well. They don’t like paying Zambian coaches what they are prepared to pay white people. I now understand why we were paid a twentienth of what our expatriate colleagues were getting at ZCCM. It is called an inferiority complex!

  38. MY APPEAL TO PF LEAD GOVT IS TO REVISIT FORMER MMD GOVT TO LOCATE THE PROPOSED NEW STUDIUM NEAR INDEPENDENCE STADIUM. THOSE WHO WERE INVOLVED DID NOT DO THEIR HOME WORK PROPERLY. YOU CANT HAVE ALL PRIME SPORTING FACILITIES IN ONE SECTION OF THE CITY. WHY NOT RELOCATE IT SOUTH OF LUSAKA. CURRENTLY LUSAKA IS SPREADING SOUTHWARDS WHY NOT SECURE PEICE OF LAND SOME WHERE FOR THIS PURPOSE. CURRENTLY NOT MUCH HAS BEEN DONE ON SITE AND ITS RELOCATION WILL NOT BE COSTLY. MODERNISE INDEPENDENCE STADIUM AND BUILD THE OTHER STADIUM NEAR A MIDDLE INCOME AREA OR NEAR THE PROSED LUSAK SOUTH FREE ECONOMIC PROCESSING ZONE. SAY SOUTH OF CHALALA FROM WOODLANDS STADIUM. THIS WILL ALSO MINIMISE ON VANDALISM AS IT MAY ALSO COMPRISE A SHOPPINH MALL WHICH IS NOT AVAILABLE THERE.

  39. MY OBSERVATION IS THAT AFTER THE DEPARTURE OF RENARD FROM TEAM, CHIPOLOPOLO’S FITNESS LEVELS HAVE DRASTICALLY GONE DOWN. HE’S DEFINATELY A GOOD FITNESS TRAINER, BUT I DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT HIS TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES. AND CAN SOMEONE HELP ME ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS?

    1. DID HE APPLY FOR THE JOB OR WAS JUST HEAD HUNTED (THIS COULD IMPACT ON COMMITMENT)? 2. WHY DOES HE SEEM NOT TO HAVE ZAMBIANS IN HIS TECHNICAL TEAM (THIS IS WHY WE FAIL TO DEVELOP OUR OWN PEOPLE)? YOU NEED PEOPLE IN THE TECHNICIAL TEAM THAT WOULD PERSONALLY FEEL INJURED AS ZAMBIANS WHEN THE TEAM IS LOSES, SO THAT THEY DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO AVOID SUCH PAIN AND EMBARRASSMENT!

  40. This is the same guy who abandoned the Chipolopolo boys because he was offered more money by Angola and FAZ gives him the job, what is the problem with Zambians? More than forty coaches applied for this job including Poulsen.

After we thumped a Benni McCarthy led South Africa 3-1 at Newlands to qualify to the Africa Cup with a Chris Katongo hat-trick, when he was asked what he thought of the result he said, “I was surprised”. How can a coach say he is surprised by his team’s victory. How does he motivate them with such pessimistic comments. Patrick Phiri is only fit for the archives.

This is why there’s a huge gap in interest in the football happeningsin the league and national team in this country by players and fans alike..     B) FAZ GIVES HR A 12 MONTHS CONTRACT – THIS IS A GUY WHO ABANDONED ZAMBIA FOR THE OIL MONEY IN ANGOLA WHERE HE WENT AND FAILED. NOW YOU BRING HIM BACK TO LAUNDER HIS CV AND DITCH US AGAING AFTER THE AFCON FINALS????

    Bonnetti could not have been as impressive but bring HR is detrimental…HR thrived on the fact that Zambia has a lot of talent thats why he was fired ku Angola….all those with good eyes so that he was going no where in Angola…its like bringing the best coaches to coach RSA, they would terribly fail like did pereira. we needed a coach who would bring some level of confidence in the players as well as the fans….no wonder we have been playing the same players for a decade…no results ………..

  60. Renard is a good coach. and deserve a second chance. Bonnetti come thru the back door. and failed to justify his appointment. we struggled to beat the weakest teams like Comoros. And the strongest team in the group Libya remained unbeaten. His firing was timely. Thanks to FAZ for the quick action that has served Zambia from shame.Go Go Zambia!
