Felix Katongo will get a chance to stake a claim for a place at next year’s Africa Cup after he was named in Zambia’s 2011 Cecefa Senior Challenge Cup-bound team.
The Green Buffaloes midfielder has been out of favor under ex-Zambia coach Dario Bonetti due to poor fitness for the last five months.
Katongo has suffered from a dip in match fitness since abandoning his Libya club Al Ittihad at the height of the conflict there in February.
The midfielder has now settled down with buffaloes in the second half of this season.
Also named to the 24-man team is Nkana’s prolific duo of Reynold Kampamba and Evans Kangwa.
Kangwa and teenage striker Kampamba have scored 16 and 9 goals respectively for Nkana this season in all competition.
The team will go into camp in Lusaka this Sunday at the Faz Technical Centre to begin the first week of training.
This year’s Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup will be held in Tanzania from November 24 to December 12.

I thought Janza had brains so he is also an IDT like Renard and Kalu . at Zesco Chakwa does not play, Jacob banda and Luputa are injured. Kalengo is their main striker nd is not on the list. Alan Mukuka , Jimmy Chisenga, nd Felix Katongo the chaps are finished. with all fairness Rodrick Kabwe, Elson Mukandawire, mwelwa sakala, are in top form. Dennis Banda you cant even like to watch the chap, why not Perry Mubanga. From the list above there are still no brains at Faz. come ACN 2012 Zambia will not win a single game. the guy still thinks the players he left are still dependable , you cant be talking about the Katongos, Chamangas these chaps are finished.
Just becauze Power Dynamos(no jealousy) look set to win the league, shud not be reazon to select half the playerz to the national team. Konkola Blades and especially Brave Rangers play some very fine football in the local league and yet have only one or no player picked at all! Maybe we’re content with being participants at the Afrika Cup; wonder why we celebrate when we reach the second round?
@7 I agree with you. Felix is completely finished.. Mathews Macha should have been given a chance, George Chilufya for Denis Banda…I dont understand the criteria for the selection of the players. Thats why we will never progress.. Brave and Konkola plus Nkana have played one of the most entertaining football this season.
