Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Communication, Transport, Works and Supply Kapembwa Simbao has asked Airtel to suggest to the committee how best the country’s communication system can be improved.

Mr. Simbao said mobile telecommunication providers should strive at enhancing the communication sector because it is key to national development.

He said there are many areas of communication that needed special attention such as mobile communication so that it can positively help to uplift the many lives of the people.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Simbao was speaking after he led the eight-member committee of parliamentarians on a conducted tour of the Airtel premises to check on its operations.

And Mr. Simbao has said the committee will present to parliament its findings and will look into the communication sector very seriously as it is beneficial to Zambians.

And Airtel Managing Director Fayaz King said his company has partnered with the Zambia Information Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) in the Universal Access Project that will see his company build over 350 sharable towers across the county.

Mr. King said 117 towers have been built and are already on air under the same Universal Access Project that has seen towns like Chiengi, Senga hill, Kabompo East, Lufwanyama and Chifunauli constituencies connected.

Meanwhile Mr. King has asked government to partner with his company in finding ways of salary payments through its recently launched Airtel money.

He said through Airtel money many civil servants could have easier and efficient ways of directly sending money especially to rural areas that have no Banks.

  1. No. 2. you got them right, ni kwindi ne mbalala. tuchenjele bane bonse abena Zambia. Nayopa ine. Kapembwa Shimbao na dollo silya amano yamo yene. Bupompwe.

  2. Absolutely rotten exercise by Simbao. Clearly shows that these people when in government had no clue as to what is best for Zambia. Airtel is as rubbish as shit. No decent parliamentarian would waste their time consulting with failures unless they themselves were also failures. Just bring back ZAMTEL. We can order Zamtel the standard we want or we fire the its executives. One has to see how TELKOM works in S. Africa or BTC in Bots. Trouble is that we had mental invalids for a president in RB, whose agenda was amassing money. No sensible person striving to develop his country would get rid of a telecom company.

  3. Why consult with a Network provider, why not send people to Kenya, RSA, Ghana, Egypt, Europe and see how the manage their networks then use that as a template…this is liken to consulting a turkey on what should be on the menu this Christmas.
Tried and tested formulas are available worldwide, all you have to do is ask politely and you will assisted for free, stuff going to airtel!!

  4. I agree with Martin and Jay Jay and I would also say…Someone is requesting the monkey to suggest how best the maize should be secured…! It does not make sense to me because I would not be surprised if the Police in Zambia ask the thieves how best houses can be secured. Tamuli amano what sort of government do we have kanshi mwebanthu. My brain is twisting because of such crap. Please spare us. I end here!

  5. Once a dog always a dog. Kapembwa with all his degrees can think clearly. What a waste of time. How can you ask ONE company with a vested interest to look after national interests. Zambia has so much money it is wasting on commissions of enquiry: why can’t they organise a communications expert to advise the sector??? Surely, even if you are dull this level of dullness is dangerous for the security of the country. I think that is why MMD needed to be kicked out. Look at what it’s former Ministers are suggesting! What kind of stupidity is this? Have Airtell paid Simbao money? Isn’t it the same Airtell that Zambians were protesting against just last week or the other. What does Simbao use for hearing, kanshi? – Does he use his bottom??? This is annoying!

  6. Airtel was involved in underhand politics by posting campaign messages for RB irritatingly without permision of subscribers (consumers). Airtel is swindling Zambians and complaints are with ZICTA that this provider has no regard for Zambian consumers and consumer top-up fees are used up by their advertisements. How can govt partiner up with Airtel. They will use all the salary money for civil servants and make the already suffering civil servants more miserable with the cheating Airtel. Simbao go through complaints at ZICTA by Zambians. This is how you get out of touch with people who vote you into power, be sinsitive to people’s feelings and respond appropriately.

  7. They will work with Airtel because it’s the company that eavesdrops…..
Instead of engaging an international consultant they run to the Indian vampires…
They will screw our ass DRY

  8. Dead woods in Parliament we all know the cost of doing business in Zambia is too expensive,Give breaks to Companies like Airtel and then push them towards a direction of lowering the cost of their services. These telecommunications Companies are bloodsuckers they make more money in Zambia and Africa than they would else where because Africa lacks leadership too many dead woods and corrupt men and women in Parliaments and in Authority.

  9. What can a thrash service provider suggest. Airtel is rubbish. How can they partner with ZICTA which is supposed to be regulator. Zambia the real Africa indeed.

  10. he still thinks it is mmd in power this chap should not mislead our presdfo. anyway boycot is on and i have since changed all documents with chi airtel number on them. GO MTN GO……..

  11. This was a very dull request. Why ask airtel when they should be the ones asking the consumers and thus suggesting innovative ways of how airtel and other service providers should be operating. They should even take airtel to task asking why they provide such a sh*t and expensive service to the public.

  12. This an insult to Zambians in the communications industry. Are we under seige? Just a week ago so many Zambians remarked about just how useless Airtel is. Now they are considered the best. Tell us that Airtel has the money not the brains. Have a panel of Zambians to receive and consider evaluate the suggestions by Airtel.
