The Royal Dutch Airlines KLM will begin operating direct services to Zambia effective May next year.
In a statement made available to MUVI TV news, states that the decision has been prompted by Zambia’s rapidly growing economy and the expanding demand for passenger services to and from the country.
Lusaka becomes KLM’s 72nd international destination.
The route will be serviced using a state-of-the-art Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines was founded in 1919, making it the world’s oldest airline operating under its original name.

Good development indeed. One of my favourites airlines. We surely need competition.
amazing….
Good, these guys are normally cheaper than BA, atleast I can visit a bit more regularly….maybe.
GOOD NEWS FOR ZAMBIAN TRAVELLERS BUT HOPE THIS FLIGHT WILL A DIRECT ONE AND NOT VIA NAIROBI ON KENYA AIRWAYS AIRCRAFT AND CREW AS THEY SHARE CODE .PLZ LET THE PUBLIC HAVE FURTHER INFORMATION.
What happened to Egypt air and Turkish airlines? Anyone with some data?
It is a good development though it cost a lot with KLM.
true, but i think they have done their maths.
“KLM to beging Operating Direct Service to Zambia”, whatever it means!!!!!!!!!
:)) ….saw that too…lolest..
@6 klm is cheaper and good .
I hope it will be a direct flight to KK airport not chi zungulila ziko
No 4 Malikopo well observed. KLM is a strategic partner of KQ. KQ is unable to have direct flights from Europe/UK into Lusaka because of flying freedom rights. However KQ/KLM have been uplifting lots of Zambia bound traffic via Nairobi and from the marketing perspective it would have been even more lucrative for KQ to head straight to Lusaka had there been no limitations. London-Lusaka-London direct route has been the preserve of BA as Zambia as a Country has failed to make the most of the reciprocal protocal since the closure of Zambia Airways 17 years ago December 1994. So the best strategy for KLM/KQ to capture direct Zambia traffic is to wage guerilla marketing warfare through a point in Europe in which case Netherlands offers convenient positioning for this operation. This in effect
means Zambia will also have a right to launch direct flights to Amsterdam. Having failed to utilise the direct London route in 17 years, are we able to take on Amsterdam? For a UK based Zambian like me and many others who travel to Zambia from either the UK or Europe the KLM move is most welcome in as far as offering competitive fares to Zambia and back in comparison to BA which has the monopoly, “not their fault”. However from a business perspective the proceeds or profits will not be Zambia bound, but will go towards beefing up the coffers of the KLM stake-holders. Zambia as a Country and us as travellers are only a means to boosting the revenues of KLM and its’ share-holders. Overall what will accrue to Zambia mainly is the amount us visitors will spend during our stay in Zambia.
:d great stuff!!! Finally we have a direct airline company flying us straight home! Am tired of switching to different companies every time I fly!
Stellar News..highly doubt it about the direct flight as Kenya Airlines has a say in this to avoid cannibalising seats… where is our Ministry of Tourism, they should highlighting and encouraging news of such a nature.Tourists favour Nairobi as a safari destination due to its direct flight links.
KLM to “beging” or to “begin?” Come on Lusaka Times, do you guys ever proof read your articles before posting them?
How long are we going to be spectators in our own markets? In fact for those tourists who fly on these airlines on packaged holidays, payments for their holiday is made up-front in UK and Europe, when they get to Lusaka they are uplifted by linked local operators on small planes, ushered straight to South Luangwa or Victoria Falls where they are treated to food products and drinks made outside Zambia through-out their stay. Upon their return they will be saying, “Zambia is fabulous” what a wonderful holiday cos’ they did not have to visit Soweto Market or stay in some of the lodges in Lusaka or visit Mansa, Mongu, Chipata etc. Let us create industries that benefit Zambia and its’ nationals. KQ did it, Ethiopian Airlines did it, even Zimbabwe Airlines did, why can’t we didn’t it too!
Good news. Its a great airline and I like their service. I hope we upgrade our KK airport soon, its a sorry sight!
This development is all becoz the Dutch have confidence in Mr. Sata’s administration. They have already projected that his administration will improve zambia rapidly economically and so they want to lead the way in showing others where the future lies in Africa. What the govenrment needs to do now is improve infrustructure at the airport and generally
filinokufula nafyo ngemyotoka.ukuyipaya inonshita kutemwafye pantu icaalo elyo chilewaminakofye. ndefwaya nomba RUFHANSA since EMIRATES nayo ileisa. to fitraffic mumulu.
nokwenda naifwe tule enda bambi na ku AIRPORT tamwaya ko bunda bwaku brouser pama internate muletutinya kwati mukendapo. work up your minds zambians eeeeeeeeeee!
Good news but let us not get excited yet as they may change their mind since May is still far. What we need is the airport to be upgraded including the rough tarmac at the airport. the reception area needs air conditions because the place just gets to hot like Nairobi. Yet taxes are being taken out of our tickets.
great news but its high time we upgraded KK , livingstone is getting upgraded as we speak with a new terminal so what not our main airport ?
yeah we need 1 from newzealand too
Amsterdam is a cheap gateway to Europe than London, low taxes means a cheaper ticket. But the high cost of aviation fuel in Zambia is a huge setback the passengers may not see cheaper ticket.Kindly write call and advise your Govt to cut back taxes on fuel.
“KLM to beging Operating Direct Service to Zambia”

# 5 Turkish Airlines is operating through Ethiopian Airlines to service the Addis – Harare – Lusaka – Addis route.

Where is Zambia Airways QZ?
Gr8 news indeed. with KLM its home brought closer.
Direct flight from where? Amsterdam?
Well, looks like the News of Emirates coming in to Zambia will attract many airlines. This is what we wanted. Cheaper fares. EMIRATES start on 1st February so Book your tickets via Dubai mwaufwako real on board service not ama Kenya KQ (Keep Quite) always delayed. They should ban Kenya Airways, in Zambia.
