Zambia cannot arrest Bush-Sata

Share

Zambia had no sufficient information to arrest Former US President George W. Bush who was visiting the country.

President Michael Sata says the Amnesty International had not given government sufficient information regarding Mr. Bush’s arrest.

Mr. Sata was speaking to journalists shortly after he arrived at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport where he had gone to see off Mr. Bush on today.

The Amnesty International had made fresh calls on three countries to arrest Mr. Bush during his trip to Africa.

Mr. Bush whose second stop over was Zambia after visiting Tanzania has left for Ethiopia.

He is in Africa to promote HIV/AIDS relief efforts and to raise awareness on cervical cancer.

And yesterday, Zambia has dismissed an international rights group’s call for the arrest on torture charges of former President George W. Bush, who has been touring Africa to raise awareness about cervical and breast cancer.

“On what basis does Amnesty International want us to arrest President Bush?” Foreign Affairs Minister Chishimba Kambwili asked.

Kambwili said Zambia would have considered the request only if it had come from the International Criminal Court acting on behalf of international organizations like the United Nations.

Earlier in the week, Amnesty International said it had asked Tanzania, Zambia and Ethiopia to arrest Bush, “someone who has admitted to authorizing waterboarding.” As president, Bush authorized the interrogation technique that simulates drowning and is viewed as torture by many.

Bush is warmly remembered across Africa for his U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which since 2003 has provided AIDS treatment to millions on the continent hardest hit by the disease.
Bush started his Africa tour in Tanzania. He launched his Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon project Friday in Zambia.

The project is aimed at expanding the availability of breast care education and cervical cancer screening and treatment.

  1. It is a joke to even contemplate that George Bush can be arrested by a country such as Zambia. Meanwhile is there any proper news?

  2. BUSH CAME TO ZAMBIA ON PEACEFUL GROUNDS, WHY SHOULD WE TURN AGAINST HIM. HE MAY HAVE ERRORS BUT IT SHOULD NOT BE BY UP TO FIX THEM. WAIT FOR HIM TO VISIT COUNTRIES WHERE YOU ARE AND ARREST HIM YOURSELVES. WE ARE A PEACEFUL NATION.

  3. Ba Amnesty u make me laugh. Bush stays in USA and you exist in the States why have you not arrested him. Just keep quiet you arm chair critics. You think Africans are fools go ahead you know where he stays and effect your so called arrest

  6. Zambia should have arrested Mr Bush for “lies of mass deception”.Where are the weapons of mass destruction(WMD) in Iraq.

  7. You called Armnety inter. How do you expect the pooer countries to do what you have failed to do yourselves? Actually what you are telling us zambians to do would be considered as humman rights abuse in my opinion. You still think you can tell Africans to close their eyes and pray to God and when he opens his eyes finding you pointing a gun at them and ask for a bigger piece of land? Gone are the days when those things used to happen. Why not do it yourselves. The Americans have just openned one of the bigest Embassies in Africa almost at the Heart of Zambia. The Embassy which has more staires underground than going up, and it accomodates more than 1000 Marines. When Hillary went to Zambia she slept at the same place, this time Busheet was there slept at the same place with all his family

  8. My familly;s house is lessthan 3minutes walk to the Embassy. I buy Newspapers at the Embassy every morning, and you are telling us to do the undoables. You are sick. I repeat gone are the days when Dr. Davide Livingstone told the Tongas to bath every day so that they don`t die from Malaria just findind that he also died from Malaria. Leave us alone in peace you dimwits.
