Zamtel resists Audit

Share

Auditor General Anna Chifungula

Reports that Zamtel management is resisting to be audited by the Auditor General Anna Chifungula have shocked Transparency International Zambia -TIZ-.

TIZ President Reuben Lifuka says it is unfortunate that Zamtel is not opening its doors to the auditor general, despite the 25% stake that Zambia holds in the telecommunications company.

Mr. Lifuka was speaking on Tuesday in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.

Media reports emerged recently that Zamtel is resisting to be audited by the Auditor General.

Auditor General Chifungula said Zamtel was resisting because the government was a minority shareholder.

The auditor general has since written to Attorney General Mumba Malila seeking legal opinion on the Zamtel audit.

  1. Do you need to write to the Attorney General to be told that you can not audit a private company of which you are a minority shareholder? The company act provides for an annual audit which is circulated to shareholders. If that does not happen you can take the company to court as a shareholder….
Its really amazing how Zambia has become a country of people without brains.

    • Seeing that you feel Zambia has become a country without brains, have you considered coming back home to increase the number of those with brains?

  2. This is a private company. They follow company law in inviting auditors. It is not for auditors to knock at the door “Hey, we are here, to audit you” is it?

  3. Zamtel is a private company that has its auditors appointed by the board. what is wrong with this ana thing.. There are millions of government operation, schools and hospitals she can work on

  4. Auditor General Office why not cover your tracks before approaching Zamtel? You should have checked for all ligalities before hand. I am sure it is not in the interest of Zamtel to be audited by the govt which seems not to be in good terms with this institution.

  5. The more i watch this circus in Zambia the more i start believing Mushota’s view about black people…..  something is just not right. Zimbabwe, Congo, Zambia, Somalia, Malawi etc.   And it seems soon South Africa is heading in the same direction

    • Why don’t you go and Marry her.  Investigations show the sale was fraudulent, I don’t see any reason why, under such extraordinary circumstances, an audit is not in order…

  6. All of U are a full of SHIT. To hell with Zamtel. Not all zambia have not brains foolish of you #3. You have no morals to insult all zambian.

  7. I have an MBA , CIMA and ACCA and soon to start PHD is she more educated than me?

How will some of us be noticed in the appointments, although we hate our country I would love to Head the High Commion in the UK

    Thanks

    • Rubbish…you don’t have any degree!
If at all you do you would upload scanned copies, we have been told you are a grade 11 with only Edexcel

  8. @8 The Engineer (Australia)

Then you are just as stup1d as that troll you just mentioned, ain’t you the chap who was supporting MMD’s plundering, MMD got us in this Zamtel mess for its selfish reasons. What do care anyway you are married to muzungu for papers and never coming back to Zambia.

  9. #8 THE ENGINEER (Australia) – actually I do disagree with you sometimes on certain points, but I agree with your sentiment here. It’s a black thing. Races are there for a reason and it is a fallacy to argue that race is only skin deep. Compare Sata and President Carter and see the differences – but also check the similarities between Sata and Mugabe and Mbingu wa Mtharika! Can anyone believe that Mbingu is an educated chap who at one time headed one of the most powerful regional organisations – yet see his behaviour in power! But actually the quality of a ruling President is an indicator of the quality of the population that voted him or her into power! A dog votes for a dog!

  10. #12 MAXWELL – you sound bitter about something. Are you one of the Zambians who are often jealous of fellow Zambians living abroad? Criticise THE ENGINEER on the substance of his argument, not the partriotic bull you are attempting to pull. It won’t wash. If you are staunch Sata supporter start asking Sata for what he promised you rather than taking your frustrations on other people!

  11. @ Mushota You lack the leadership and diplomacy to be charged with such a noble task.  I am a regular visitor of Lusaka Times and frankly, you and The Engineer (Australia) are two of the most ignorant  I have come across.  You and your simplistic perception of reality apparently managed to fool yourselves into believing that, by virtue of having an opinion, you know what is best for this nation.  If you’re so endeared to its and wish to uphold its statutes or advance its plight, why are the both of you half way around the world? Greener pastures ka? You were smart enough to choose to leave? To gain more experience ka? haha, you’re such jokers…

  12. @14 Gokigo Milazhe,
DON’T TAKE IT PERSONAL IF YOU ARE IN A MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE. IF YOU KNOW THIS BLOGGER FROM 2010 THEN YOU WOULD KNOW WHERE I’M COMING FROM.
WHY WOULD I BE JEALOUS OF SOMEONE LOCALITY, EVEN A HOMELESS TRAMP CAN HAVE A £15 PHONE AND POST MESSAGES ON HERE. YOU HARDLY EVEN KNOW WHERE I’M LOCATED TO SAY THAT, WHY DO YOU HAVE THIS NOTION THAT SOMEONE IN ZAMBIA IS AUTOMATICALLY ENVIOUS OF WHERE YOU ARE.

No amount of self pleasure will take you anywhere. The fact is the world can see that Africa despite all the educated African from whatever university you can talk of have failed to take Africa anywhere…. lets face it color has something to do with it. How else do you explain it? Even Africa’s power house South Africa is now going down the drain. In 15 to 20 years time it will be a basket case. Its not simplistic perception or an illusion its reality… Zambia were i was born is now lead by a group of moron…  i guess its a reflection of the voters. Only a moron can be lead by another moron. And yes am i live in a civilized place

  14. No need to get into heated arguments here. Zamtel is a private company and therefore is not subject to the same auditing practice as govt entities period. If and/or when the privatisation of Zamtel is reversed then Chifungula will be free to knock on it’s door and conduct an audit. By the way, am surprised this woman Chifungula has not been replaced – am I therefore to conclude she is Bemba?

  15. Wawa (16)
you seem to be a Whole Lot More worried about my credibility and hard working education than anything. don’t bother,I post my comments opinions with complete candor and No concern whatsoever who believes them. if you never read or responded to another one of my posts, i wouldn’t even notice. don’t believe me? then i Dare you to ignore Me and see what my response will be . . . absolute and utter indifference.

    Thanks

  16. Engineer = you gat a point there about Africa. We are doomed! We need to be ‘exorcised’ from these demons of confusion. Give Africa a millenium, you shall still not get anywhere. Only servants of other people. Tell me a company in Zambia where you can leave Africans to work without a white man looking over their shoulders to make sure the African thing does not derail the company. Asia is moving very well, Whats wrong with us? Mushota, and I think is not a woman, may be somehow shallow, but she has a simple truth. Unfortunately, we can not redeem ourselves. Would be like telling a fish to leave its water.

Vietnam was reduced to nothing after the war, today its economy is bigger than Zambia. Finland has less than 10% of Zambia’s resources. Malaysia was a bush in 1964. Nigeria besides being Africa’s largest oil producer imports fuel because it has no refinery. Zambia is the world’s 7th producer of copper.

The fact is Africa is doomed and just need to be colonized again. Like one guy said Africans are no even fit for compost when the die.

  18. People, are you saying and agreeing with each other that there’s something wrong with Black people? Something deeper than skin? Can we please list what is wrong and propose ways to sort it out. It could be helpful.

  19. @18

So what’s a civilised place then?
You and your troll friend are the ones in need of enlightenment here, please spare us your drivel and you have no concept of what education really is. Zambia may be led by someone you disapprove but guess what that’s far better than being led by a bunch of shameless greedy thieving corrupt pigs.

PS.  be original creative can get your own name!!

  20. So brain washed are Zambians that an Indian Mathtani can come to zambia do what he wants (breaking every law), his bank is taken away for illegal dealing, Zambians cry that the bank should be taken back to local owners….  they see an Indian as a local owner??? Go to India and see if they will call you a Zambian a local owner.
Like one blogger said for a Zambian to work the boss must be white, indian or chinese…. thats why they patronize an Indian calling him local because he some how looks like them, while a white South African (FNB) is a foreigner. I wonder if even God will let black into heaven, by now he has released what a mistake he made

  21. No 18

A civilsed place is were they do not elect a grade 4 president in this modern day and time. Not even fit to run a funeral parlor.

  22. 21 & 22 – Guru / The Engineer – what you say is true (unfortunately) and we all know it for a fact albeit there are those who will pretend….And we have not contributed much (if anything) to the progression of mankind. Actually, I mentioned this to a fellow african a few years ago, he was livid and made a point of reminding me that black africans had discovered making fire – wow watchout Alexander Fleming, ha !

  23. For all we know this #26 may be some very bitter racist Afrikaan white man blogging from his little hut in RSA, honestly read the postings….that thing Mushota would be the ideal poster boy for delivering their hater-filled messages to the masses.

PS. Just use your Boer name mate!!

  24. Dear loggers, i believe in Africa and the African dream. But the comments coming from our friends who live outside Zambia? Whether you like it or not therez progress in Zambia. We may be be hide in one way or the other but we are not going backwards. some of you who left Zambia 5yrs ago will be amazed when you visit our beloved beautiful Zambia. The land of peace. A place were sleep knowing its home and home for our children and there children. No white man will develop Zambia, Zambia and Africa will be developed by Zambian. And if some of you throwing stones from afar would come home and contribute in one way or the other… then we would get better. Don’t enjoy other people’s sweat, come and build Zambia for posterity. Viva patriotism viva.

  25. No 28
Its a topic most Africans fear to talk about and yet the facts can show for it. We have contributed nothing to the progression of human kind. Only fit to be used as a source of labour.

  26. Ok, so let’s be open. What exactly is wrong with the Black people?

    1. Brain power?
    2. Natural Management ability?
    3. Corruption?
    4. Lack of progessive thoughts?
    5.
    6.
    7.
    8.
    …..

  27. Wow have a bunch of Africans who are so angry of being Africans and think that they are the worst human beings ever created. It is a pity that most of the chaps here think of themselves so low. The fact that you live in a white man’s world does not make you any inferior you people. If we have leaders who have messed up things does not mean you have to demean your own race. You really pathetic indeed. If Chifumngula errors in her duties, it is normal even whites have errored many times, don’t you read about the scandals happening in Europe and Asia everyday? These issues have got nothing to with skin color but just individuals. You can shit about Zambia and Africa but remember you and your parents are to blame collectively, so do not isolate yourself just because you in diaspora!

Tell me any country USA, UK, Canada, Australia, France etc where the president can say the Central Bank printed fake money? If you are honest with yourself, you will realize that it can only be a black country like Zambia

  30. Funny that in RSA whites say ‘I am going to Africa’ when referring to all the countries beyond the Limpompo. Why? Because they see see nothing that motivates them beyond the Limpompo. This black thing is real, no matter how much we try to say no. Look at Haiti. It has never gone beyond being a village from the 18th century. Just back home, I remember when I joined Kitwe Little Theatre back then in the 80s, people had memories of when the club was run by whites, why? Because since they left is down, down, down chabe. For now I think our Sata gets a second glance because of having Guy Scott in his team, otherwise ni awe mwandi. Oh, and @The Engineer (Australia) has always been consistent in his views. He supported MMD on principle because there was hope. But manje, kaya. Fili eko tuleya.

  31. 10. Inability to face reality always in illusions
    11. lives for the day, the future is an illusion
    12.
    13.
    14.

  32. Anna Chifungula auditing Zamtel a private company.what a joke, who appointed her auditor? This ignorance will kill us. it starts from high offices

  33. No 36
Did you want the president to lie and just keep quiet about it, people were asking about that issue long before the president said it. So what is really wrong with that. Do you really think only a black man can reveal such an issue which you would sweep it under the carpet? People have been asking questions about the source of funding of the previous campaigns and the differences in the bank notes so it is being black to come out straight about it. It is the bank that informed the president and people were waiting for answers. Please give me another issue not this, because this one does not make any black or white!

  34. Why is it that all the Caribbean island are poor, pathetic and never developed while they are in between North and South America? has it got to do with color? Look at Fiji in between developed NewZealand and Australia.

Its some how has a connection with being black.

  35. No 40.

Its got something to do with the fact that at his age and the humble level of education ( can only happen in Africa) he does not understand the economic implication of saying the the nation you have fake money.

By the way the average age of presidents in Europe, Asia, South and North America and Australia is 56 years. In Africa its 78 years. The computer was not even around

  36. Ok, a man went into a shop selling brains and was shown three different types. the first brain was going for K50,000; the second for K500,000 and the third was selling at a whopping K500,000,000.

the prospective brain buyer asked the proprietor whay the 3rd brain was so dear… Answer ” it has never been used, it belonged to a black man….” i will not insult others’ intelligence by stating who the cheaper brains belonged to…….. And so the merry-go-round of poverty and suffering continues in the black mans land and still we are in denial !

  37. Is the dunderhead topic on here??? Perhaps we should bring it on. Apparently it seems it was not exhaustively discussed on ZWD. Where does the black man stand in the advancement of humanity????

  38. Am sure all of you guys subscribe to this paper beacause you are zambians and you have zambia at heart. people lets not boast about our degrees or which parts of the world we live in, but lets fight to make zambia a better place to live and invest in. Ba mushota na ba engineer no one will praise you for the contribution that you make outside zambia. Be realistic all the time. Visit zambia and see how many street kids and people dying in hospitals when other people are burying cash. shame!

  39. No 45

Thats the point why should the 7th Copper producer have street kids? Finland has less than 10% of Zambias resources and has no street kids and has the highest standard of living in the world…..  something to do with being black my friend. I was realistic by leaving the place along time ago

  40. Anna is a serious disappointment, did she honestly think that she can go and audit a privately-owned company. Or maybe she has been directed by one Michael Sata to undertake the audit? The Libyans must be wondering what kind of jungle they invested their money in.

  41. I sense a great deal of “INFERIORITY COMPLEX” here raise a point IF YOU HAVE A VALID ONE or shut your beeeegg mouf… Its with great concern and very disheartening to see this discussion become a racial matter, Mushota u r book smart n not street smart or even managerial material, Engineer however u had your thoughts twisted don’t know what u r on surely r provin yourself to be what u r lamenting about and the rest of u rascals that have resolved to make this a race issue SHAME ON YOU ALL>>>>!!! i could curse at you but am showing u that am better than u.

  42. Mushota and the so called Engineer may be “educated”, if they are at all, but they are so much brain washed by the so called whites such that they can no longer think straight. I suppose these chaps are not even from Zambian nor Africa.

  43. All of you calling Mushota and Engineer names are shallow. Whenever the two give points (facts), your replies are always the predictable adjectives…
It takes one who dares think outside the (black) box to see the problem and make a realistic attempt to fix it. Africa is a problem, Period!

  44. Engineer…

Kind of reminds me of a quote in a certain movie starring Denzel Washington if i’m not mistaken (kaili i’m black, so even my memory i tend to doubt at times),..

”You know,…If we depended on black people to eat, the world would starve to death”

Must have been money blues something,…

  45. I cannot believe that all this thing about “blacks” is being discussed the way it is by our so called intellectuals. I have two words which can describe this ‘Inferiority Complex’
#27/33 The Engineer (Austrialia) You have a serious mental problem. Here is a quote specially for you. “IT IS POSSIBLE TO STORE THE MIND WITH A MILLION FACTS AND STILL BE ENTIRELY UNEDUCATED…….by Alec Bourne

    Lekeni MCS atuteke

    • 52 Tracy,

” I cannot believe that all this thing about “blacks” is being discussed the way it is by our so called intellectuals. ”

Posters like ‘the engineer’ and ‘mushota’ are trolls and flamers. They are probable white losers with nothing to do.

There used to be a time when Lusaka Times had a ‘flag’ button, but they have removed it. And there is no actual moderation, other than automated moderation.

The best thing to do is to read over them, and ignore them. Or read another blog than Lusaka Times. (Are you listening, Lusaka Times?)

  46. and to the rest of you…..”THE TROUBLE WITH SO MANY OF US IS THAT WE UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF SIMPLICITY. WE HAVE A TENDENCY IT SEEMS TO OVER COMPLICATE OUR LIVES AND FORGET WHAT’S IMPORTANT AND WHAT’S NOT. WE TEND TO MISTAKE MOVEMENT FOR ACHIEVEMENT. WE TEND TO FOCUS ON ACTIVITIES INSTEAD OF RESULTS. AND AS THE PACE OF LIFE CONTINUES TO RACE ALONG IN THE OUTSIDE WORLD, WE FORGET THAT WE HAVE THE POWER TO CONTROL OUR LIVES REGARDLESS OF WHAT’S GOING ON OUTSIDE” …….by Robert Stubery
