THE MMD National Executive Committee (NEC) will on Saturday decide whether to elect a party acting president as National Secretary Richard Kachingwe accused some members of trying to destabilise the former ruling party.
Major Kachingwe said in Lusaka yesterday that those advocating the change of entire leadership were not genuine members as they wanted to ‘kill’ the party.
He said in an interview that it was unfair for any party member to accuse the NEC of having cost the former ruling party the last elections.
“According to the rules of our party we have a convention every five years and we are just seven months into the mandate. Those advocating for an overhaul of the leadership are not genuine members. They are actually enemies of the party.
“In fact when we came into office we inherited a shell, a dead party.
We had to start all over putting up structures,” he said.
Maj Kachingwe said the NEC would this weekend decide whether the party should appoint an acting president or hold a convention to elect a new leader.
He said the party organ would be sitting on Saturday to chart the way forward.
“The NEC is the supreme decision making organ. It makes rules and we are meeting on Saturday to decide whether we should appoint acting president or hold a convention to elect a new leader,” he said.
Former Republican president Rupiah Banda has indicated that he would be resigning from the party’s top position.
Five members of the party have applied to take up the top party position after successfully lodging their applications by November 30, this year.
Those who have applied are former Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane, Lunte Member of Parliament (MP) Felix Mutati, his Chisamba counterpart Moses Muteteka and former Zambian High Commissioner to Canada Nevers Mumba.
Asked whether the party had the resources to hold a convention, Maj Kachingwe said he could not talk about the party’s financial matters in the media and that the matter would be tabled before the Saturday meeting.
“The issue about financial resources is a private matter and there is no law that compels a party to reveal. However the greatest asset the party has are its members. It is these members who will raise the funds for the party,” he said.
[Times of Zambia]
saleni bane….you are a finished party..even UNIP did your tricks when they were chucked out of power…but now…baba mu dungeon…
Who cares. This is a finished party like UNIP. The new guns like Mutati and this Fake Priest Nevers’ Nkumba should seriously consider changing the name of the party to enable them have a new Identity from the past leaders and a refreshing perspective from the people !
Guys Guys I’m not an MMD supporter but for Democracy to succeed in Zambia we need MMD to remain Strong. The reason why MMD ruined Zambia for the last 20 years was because UNIP died. And there was no other strong party to oppose MMD so they ruled or should i say plundered Zambia for a long time. So if MMD dies it will take another 20 years for another party to challenge PF which is not good for the country. I’M a PF support but i love Zambia more than i love my party so for the good of Zambia i hope with all my heart that MMD remains strong. OR Kill MMD and then HH turns his part into an inter-provincial (not western only part) that is strong enough to challenge PF. Constructive competition is what is needed in our politics.
I totally agree with you!
Dr Nevers Mumba is the man for the job.MMD needs its own polar opposite of the outrageous father Bwalya to bring a semblance of sanity to the zambian parliament which is now full of extreme rightwing nutcases and witch hunters who are clones of Sata and Bwalya.
who cares. Just “unanimously endorse ” Nevers Mumba the way u are used to. But no, now you know that that attitude cost you the September elections by having RB go unopposed at the conversion. RB intimidated and fired from the party every person with intentions to challenge him. I hope you will fire these five applicants and unanimously endorse Nevers. You are a dead Party anyway.
“In fact when we came into office we inherited a shell, a dead party.
We had to start all over putting up structures,” he said.
But you had Ala Bee at the helm so how was it dead then?
I need Capitalist, Bootfimofimo and Senior Citizen to comment on this.
More Popcorns and a Mozi please!
@PaZed#3. I hear you but Hai Hai has not been clever enough.I nfact he committed suicide by going to bed with MMD immediately after they lost the elections.
UPND will not grow, MMD will only die. If Chipimo is clever enough, he stands a chance of becoming the biggest opposition in 10 years time. He has to be patient and play it safe. Let him not antagonise the people of Zambia by yapping at everything. So far so good for him. He is playing it well. The wounds are still fresh for the Zambian people and if we get a few more revelations and the dirty MMD left, they will only go down.
Go for Nevers mmd.You need a fearless man to stand up to constables intimidations.
Dont endorse Nevers, he is jail bound. You will start looking for another president.
I really like the views expressed by Pa Zed at Number 3.. this is what we need in Zambia. I look forward to a time when we shall have two main parties in Zambia which shall be different on idealogies and people will be as different in their views about the parties. In the meantime we need MMD to be a strong opposition.. If it does a good job, it will be easily trusted again to get back to government. The Labour party in the UK stayed in the opposition until Tony Blair brought it into Government.. I, in the meantime, don’t support any of these popular parties in Zambia now.
haha…very funny! arent these the same chaps that were insisting on PF showing them the finacial standing of the party & where it got its funding from??? jeez, how things turn around!
MMD needed this ‘death’ to resurrect. I am pretty sure, they have licked their wounds and will be careful next time. Those predicting their demise may just have to wait a bit longer. Funny thing is, Sata will make them even more popular. He does not have the political engineering skills of Kafupi, the real killer of UNIP. If the hullabaloo caused by one Chilufya these past two and half months is to go by, then people will certainly be looking elsewhere. Actually, I would confidently state that the republican president will be the best campaigner for MMD.
we cannot count on upnd as a strong opposition to provide checks and balances because there is no democracy in upnd and it has no large follwoing at least mmd is bigger than upnd so pliz mmd nec do not impose someone like the way you have been doing in the past because that will be the end of mmd just hold a small convention and allow members to choose freely
take my advice or leave it coz if mmd dies today, then we have to wait for some 20 years to have a strong opposition by the name of NAREP because that other party which you all know is UPND cannot be trusted more its leader maybe if they expel him
MMD needs to regroup and be a strong opposition before all their mps defect to PF
Nevers Mumba, Chipimo, Mutati have no chance to win next elections. Their curse is tribe. We are tired of bembas ruling us and especially more so because of Sata’s desastrous tribal presidency. We will vote for anyone from any other tribe. Just not bemba again. Give others a chance also.
foolishly bent tribalist!!
I totally agree, NAREP is the way to go than HH’s constituency party or alabi’s dead skin.
With the prevailing tribal tensions in the country, UPND will flourish and make strongholds in western, north western and offcourse southern provinces. Central and lusaka provinces are mixed and they will increase support base there.
#18 Jomie dream on Tongas. unfortunately you are the only ones who think like that. If bemba start thinking like you, no other tribe will ever rule because they re 55% of the population. Occupy 4 provinces.
No. 16, I know that you are a Tonga, or bantu botabwe. just as a tonga will NEVER rule Zambia in 1000000 years to come. You will NOT vote for a bemba but a bemba will still win as Zambia’s population is more of “bemba’ speaking than any other. Ahaahaahaa.
Yes they have every right as a party to do what they think is right for them to go foward but at the end of the day when it come to deciding whether they will come back or not it will be the intelligent Zambias. Take for instance the calls by some senior members of the party that nevers, he is indeed nevers, that he should be the party president, this man of God mistook his God given unction, grace, anointing, charisma on the puppet to mean that he can get the same support in politics, this is where he lost everything. He is lucky even to have worked as ambassador, a rank lower than the ps coz he reports to the ps. He was fired by Mwanawasa due to his pride, left his party and should MMD go ahead and elect him, they will dig their on political grave, the little soulp in the cluster will
#16………Loot at you!!!!! Atase
#20 kci, please educate Jomie. He is so irritating
Italian Bunga Bunga (Original)
Why are you such a bootlicker for pf? Are you a RCC priest?
@24 Cafenol. Did you ask yourself that question when you used to be on here everyday as Capitalist, Senior Citizen and Bootfimofimo? When the shoe is on the other foot!!!!!!!
Ke ke ke ke ke ke ke ke ke ke ke keke ke ke!
Italian Bunga Bunga (Original)
As much as you may be an RCC protagonist, just remember that it is not the interests of the Propaganda due that matters here, but the common Zabian. As much as Zambians can be manipulated by your likes, just know that in the end, you will have to give account to God, not your god.
Kachingwe Please listen to your members though am not an MMD member humble yourself and listen.
Don’t repeat the same mistake you did during the September 2011 elections that made MMD to lose the presidency and elections!
Don’t be foolish this time listen to the genuine complaints of your members especially the youth!
The greatest threat that the nation faces remains religious fanaticism, specifically RCC fanaticism. Tribalism is secondary to the primary as long as the aim is to inculcate the idea that Catholicism is the overall paradigm above anything else, even if it means bringing to power a clueless sangoma whose only repose is Catholicism, even in pretense. ‘The end justifies the means, according to their maxim.

You tribalists should shut your yaps. There’s no way we will allow you to lead us to Rwanda. We will sort you out before that can happen.
Iam a Bisa but will gladly vote for a Tonga if one with brains appears on the political scene. Mazoka’s popularity was because he had a national appeal and focus. Not one whose sole purpose in the race is to because a Tonga has never ruled and he wants to end this.

What you need above anything else is to examine where you stand. You need to see that life may be something else other than what you have been ‘inculcated in’. Listen, it is not too late to re-evaluate yourself. As mush as you have spent more than half your life convinced of those doctrines, don’t shut out the ‘light’ that ‘so often beams’ on you inadvertently when your guard is down.
As for the tribalist Bembas here how does a Bemba’s rule help you? If you are poor and a brainless Bemba rules you you still remain poor. Most of you clinging to social groupings are individually failures in life. Its these failures that perpetuate superiority complexes
@Cafenol.
May God bless you! You will remember these words one day!
Italian Bunga Bunga (Original)
May God be ever gracious, may he ever remain merciful. The convictions of men may be out of a single miss. The prodigious underlays, as much as they are, may be a farce. How else will a man know that what he stands on is true? If not an emptying of the bias that he may have for ages taken for granted as true?
How will a man, who for ages, has given himself up to celibacy, annul his deep convictions? Beyond question, he has a light pointing to an end besides the interim, to sacrifices that a mere mortal has not occasion to attest to? Grace, only grace can lift the veil!
Many are not willing to subscribe that their sacrifices are a farce – the end justifies the means. Alas, inspite, plain evidence, the spirit has had the better. He does not give up, the pain a tool, the trials, a means. How long will you linger, upon your shoulders a heavy burden?
Reason has no place in conscious but at a deeper leaf, the subconscious.
MMD is a private organisation. They have the right to stir themselves which ever direction members want. At the moment they are a serious threat to PF.
Intellectuals have discussed on this blog whether or not MMD will crumble like UNIP. The broad agreement is that MMD is ideologically different from UNIP so they will not fall like UNIP. In fact MMD and PF are similar ideologically. That’s why PF is full of ex MMD members, including Sata himself.
Chipimo would have to overtake MMD and UPND to be of any weight in Zed. So far he has not shown he can do that.
Every organisation can rejuvenate themselves by having a new management team. MMD can do that and win the hearts of people again.
PF vs MMD is all about personnel, not an ideological difference.
I am looking at the flags and see very few bloggers living in Zambia
The MMD party needs deep cleaning with Jik!!
Indeed, signs of the changing times are on the horizon. So we ask again,”How else will a man know that what he stands on is true? If not an emptying of self delussion that he may have for ages taken for granted as true. Ney, its only a foolish optimist that denies the dark realities of the moment, for the book has states that ‘Where there is no vision the people perish’.
When the people cry injustice, tribal, poverty, illiteracy, disease, hunger..etc…….aggressive protest is their answer to their cry. Who will rescue us from these times.
MMD is finished ! UNIP can not be compared to any party in terms of its Balance Sheet. It has got Assets that is why it is surviving even up to now even if it can not win elections.
Can you imagine that the new government complex was supposed to be HQ for UNIP. UPND, MMD & PF’s Balance sheet are weak
I have no time for MMD, they represent a chapter in our history that was awash with extremely selfish and corrupt elements. In my view, the election this year created an opportunity to move forward. Sata is a short term solution to the challenges the country faces – create order. I am not convinced that he will serve more than one term on account of his age and the new found freedoms that are being advanced; no party will serve more than 2 terms. I equally belive that after Sata, PF will struggle badly as a party. For me, the next elections will be a choice between UPND and NAREP. Of the two parties, I think that Elias shows a degree of level headedness that is unfortunately absent in Hakainde. To me, Hakainde appears too aggressive and predatory to represent a new era in Zambian politics
dead horse, those wanting to ride it will be burried with it or they are burried already. Wankers!!!
MMD has more local gov’t seats than PF.

@37 PF Sources,
Most Zambians use mobile handsets hence are connected via their Network provider’s wireless servers located overseas as result you can not pin point location of the blogger and shows flag of server’s location. I presume you are using a PC connected to the net via land-line hence showing Zambian flag!!!
@ Cafenol
May God deliver you! It seems you have so much nature hate for the Catholics + Bembas. In this era! Dont you have relatives who fall under these groupings, if not then, I must believe thats the reason you are sick. In the mighty name of Jesus, your evil plans will never succeed. You will die a miserable and desperate fool because you are full of hatred and envy. RCC has come a long way and no amount of evil plans will ever bring it down. Many have tried to destroy it in the past but it has survived. Common on! stop dreaming and get back to work, you lazy miserable buffoon!
I know cafenol might be brash in his wording making me not agree with his emotions, but he has a point, when was there ever a non white pope? Better still a black or Jewish pope? Two people groupings that are anciently biblically related. God made us wise enough to know all we need is Jesus. What follows is wisdom and development.
#41 Umwaume, “the next elections will be a choice between UPND and NAREP.”
We mwaume, 2016 is a long long way to go. MMD has a head start on NAREP. Chipimo would struggle to draw a mass following. Zambian voters are populist. Chipimo is not populist. Actually, HH is more of a political astitute than Chipimo. If MMD remains intact, and instals new faces as leadership, Chipimo will struggle to overcome MMD. At 2016, the fight is likely to be between MMD and PF. People forget easily so MMD will gain popularity. Just like they forgot Sata’s conduct of 2001 3rd Term saga.
It is only as he empty’s his mind that a man can levitate, he collapses when reality dawns. How on earth can we, as a nation, engage the services of a sangoma for a head of state? One who speaks at the bidding of hell , no matter the stu.pidity, whose only counsel is a convulsion of hellish spooks?
Nomba Ninshi
As you pray for ‘god’ to deliver me, how again, in the same vein, do you wish me a miserable dearth? A self defeating praaayerrrrr! My only wish concerning you is for you to untangle the chains that helplessly ensnare you.
But, all the same, I thank you most sincerely for your professed concern for my miserable estate and pray you more that I may overcome my unholy hatred for ‘Bemba’s and Roman Catholics.
Viva Nevers!! Vote for Nevers Mumba! He is the only charisma presido material we have at the moment. Sata will rule till 2021. Therefter, it will be Wynter Kabimba or Given Lubinda. Under5 azalila……….!!!
Why is it that Zambian politics gravitates around the same old scandalous individuals? But then I get it, Zambian citizens forget too early and have an attitude of allowing others to take advantage of them so easily!
@Cafenol, it appears we are about to drink you with some milk, in other words, neutralise you. Talk issues and avoid getting emotional. Besides, these are characters you use not real names.
You drew a line and I have decided to cross to Italian Bunga Bunga (Original)’s side.
This one has just started.
No one is interested in your shallow minded ‘nomba ninshi’ behaviour.
When you meet, make sure you sweep the room for bugs and every member should leave their cell phones outside. The party has been infiltrated with spies and every discussion will be heard in Uganda.
You chaps who insult HH should be careful because HH is the next president of zambia whether you like it or not. Chanda chiimba used the same language against Sata, where is he? Only a fool can not learn. Dont say you were not told when time comes.
@PF MUTALE- The difference between Sata and HH is that Sata is electable and always stood a realistic chance of winning an election since 2006. On the other hand, HH is greatly disliked in the Copperbelt, most of Lusaka, Eastern province and the two Northern provinces. Central province does not seem to warm up to him either.
Statistically speaking, even the incoming MMD president has a better chance than HH.
DORA WOULD MAKE A GOOD PRESIDENT FOR MMD BECOZ SHE CAN USE WHAT SHE KNOWS BEST TO GET DOWN ANY MAN. GOOD OPTION, GIVE HER A TRY.
CHARACTER ASSASSIN 00
May I be reminded, if you may, what crime I have committed for you to be so incensed as to want to have me ‘neutralized’? The character who sounds to be more of a ‘kambwili’ tagging as Nomba Ninshi, has accused me to have, in his own words, ‘hate for the Catholics + Bembas’ and without time for recuse, you have declared yourself on his line against me. All for what?
While I bask contentedly in my unforgivable ignorance, could you perhaps advise me as to which kindergarten I could speedily avail myself to if I must cure myself from this ailment.
BTW I am at the apex of a tower in Quarter, trying to benefit from the maze of satellites I suspect my be assisting me to blog most satisfyingly.
Bring it on Ba MMD.We are waiting.
#46 Ice Road Trucker, I have a different view, and maybe we should agree to disagree. I am confident that by the time of the next elections, Zambians will be looking for something different – not a populist (they will have had the Sata), and post Sata, PF does not have the same pull. In my opinion, the internet generation will look for a sober minded individual who will analyse issues without the megaphone. Someone who will preach togetherness and give Zambians a dream and hope. Yes Elias might not have the machinery at the moment, but I believe that his party will be better known at the time of the next election. As for MMD, I do not see the bright future that you see.
Enock Kavindele you tried to be President in almost if not every party election. This is the only time you can take up that position. Those candidates are under 5s like HH. You are the only heavy weight who stood against KK, FTJ, Levy. RB was un underdog and he scooped it bcoz the party was still mourning Levy.
@Cafenol- Your response is quite meek and very constructive, I think I end it there.
@Cafenol-Shaka fimofimo. Please chill my brother. Chill! Enjoy life. There is more to life than just being miserable. Go out a bit more, find yourself a girlfriend, take her out, enjoy!
@ Italian Bunga Bunga (Original)- Hahahaha I think that one just about sums it up. Enough Character Assassination done today.
MMD is finished period.
Those who want to convince themselves that mmd is finished shud remember that they lost by only 150,000 votes (made up of youths who wont b voting again bcoz they hav been duped in less than 90days. on other hand most mmd sympathisers did not vote in 2011 but u can bet that they r getting ready to vote in 2016. add to that number, multitudes being disappointed by pf govt. this myt sound painful to yo ears but mmd stands a good chance in 2016. chipimo is just being propped up by his tribesmen who want to perpetuate bemba hegemony otherwise hes under5 in 2016 polls
Kachingweeee, what shell did you inherit, infact MMD was much stronger than when you became SG. You, Banda and Mabenga, three of you destroyed the party and made it lose the election. We general members of the party say we need convertion, so who are you to sayno to us.We need a strong president and a strong NEC.If you go ahead and choose Nevers then we would say MMD rest in peace.
