Share

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested a Copperbelt University (CBU) lecturer for corrupt practices involving sexual gratification from a named female student.

ACC Head of Corporate Communications, Timothy Moono said Webby Mulyata Mwaka 43, a Lecturer in the School of Engineering, at CBU has been charged for sexual gratification.

Mr Moono notes that Dr Mwaka of Jambo Drive Campus, has been charged with one (1) count of abuse of authority of office contrary to Section 21(c) of the Anti-Corruption Act Number 3 of 2012.

“Details are that Dr. Mwaka on dates unknown but between 1st January 2023 and 3rd October 2023 in Kitwe, did abuse the authority of his office to corruptly solicit sexual gratification from a named female Copperbelt University student as an inducement or reward for himself to help her pass her course, a matter or transaction that concerns the Copperbelt University, a Public Body,” he said.

Mr Moono said Dr. Mwaka has since been released on bond and will appear in court soon.

He added that a month ago, the Commission arrested two other CBU Lecturers on similar charges.

Mr Moono further said the Commission is concerned with the rise in offences of this nature and has appealed to all victims of such immoral and criminal acts not to shy away from reporting such incidents.

He said the incidences of sexual gratification should be reported to the ACC so that corruption in all its forms is eliminated.

This is contained in a statement availed to today.

  3. It seems this scourge is widespread . It’s not only in learning institutions alone but workplaces and churches as well. Would you wonder why P.K. Chishala did a song called “Church Elder”? At one time my friend lost his wife to a Union leader who later became a prominent politician. Zambia is a randy nation. It’s good that some people are getting arrested. It might reduce prevalence levels in learning institutions. By the way, HIV/AIDS prevalence levels among teachers is quite high. It’s about time we conducted a study to establish why that’s so

  4. Sex for degrees in universities is rampant.
Sex for adoption in political parties is serious. We have heard of this happening is our top political parties.
Sex for jobs is common in the civil service .
Sex for promotion is rampant in both public and private companies. HR Managers are culprites in this scourge.
In the Army and police most female recruitments and promotions are not on merit….sex is involved.
Magistrates and some judges have been found wanting in the same….Sex for favorable judgements.
What kind of Society are we ?

    • This is a society that hypocritically claims that it is a “Christian Nation” (my @$s). The same adulterers and fornicators would judge gay and h0mo$exuals as “sinners”. What a rotten society!

    • We’re a randy nation. It’s said many junior officers sacrificed their wives just for a place in the peacekeeping missions. Sometimes sex is even more important than family connections

  5. By the way how are they going to prove this crime? ‘She said, he sad’? Unless there was audio or video tape recordings involved, it would be difficult to prosecute and prove.
Very strange too because often the students victims are also willing participants, if not instigators. But the lecturers hold the balance of power, and thus abuse their authority. I say stump it… it requires more education, ethics and moral integrity type, more so than jailing.

  6. Only mideocre Zambians apportion corruption to a political party. When someone is corrupt Zambian or foreigner they are simply corrupt as an individual. Zambians in general are corrupt so it does not matter what political party is in power. Infact the corruption has risen to a higher level under Hakainde Hichilema. So stop branding a political party as corrupt. It is shallow thinking to begin to theink that a political party is corrupt. This just plays into the hands of iniquitous leaders who afyer being corrupt themselves are now pointing at others as corrupt. Hakainde Hichilema should be the last person to call others corrupt, because he knows how he corruptly earned his so called wealthy. He has refused to answer questions on how he earned his wealth. Let alone declaring his networthy.
