First Quantum Pays For Zambia’s 2012 AFCON Rights

Share

ZNBC’s excuse that they cannot broadcast the 2012 Africa Cup has been given a boost after mining concern FQM gave them US$ 250,000.

First Quantum minerals resident director Kwalela Lamaswala said the deal will see ZNBC carry live TV and radio broadcasts of Zambia’s Africa Cup Group A games.

FQM’s package means ZNBC now has a shortfall of US$160,000 of its total broadcast package rights of US$410,000 for the Africa Cup tournament.

“First Quantum has had a fruitful association with soccer, and shares the passion of Zambians for the beautiful game. Therefore, it became imperative for us to lead the way in ensuring that the millions of soccer fans are not deprived of the joy and thrill of seeing their idols in action at Africa’s prestigious football arena,” Lamaswala said in a statement.

  1. few crumbs for a good public image… its cheap !

and in the same time Kansanshi mine (FQM) owes the state-owned company ZCCM-IH 475 million dollars… you understand why those looters take us for *****s…

  2. Why doesn’t ZNBC plan in advance? Why does this have to happen each time there’s a major tournament? Where do they take the money people pay for TV licenses or did they stop charging?

  3. Are you telling me that ZNBC can’t recoup those funds from advertising space during the live transmission, instead getting donations from the selfsame crooks who are making billions of dollars from our natural resources and our ignorance.

  4. This is a very Poor story which does not even deserve to be put up for us to read because it was never proof checked! I can’t make sense of whatever has been written……

  5. LT Admin,

  8. Where do these ZNBC chaps take the money we pay for TV levy to. There is no way the chaps can continue to give us the same bogus excuse whenever there is an AFCON tournament. Maybe we should stop paying TV levy coz we are not getting the full benefit of paying the levy.

  9. Why is football so important to Zambians?!  Don’t you have more important things to do like growing maize or chickens or going to the gym instead of channel surfing all night long watching football?  You definitely don’t get paid to watch football.

  10. Mike Te, you are an alarmist – do you know what $475m is? Owing for what? And since when? Speak facts not hear-say

  11. @15 Final Say

  12. Bushe iyi ni story nangu niba reporter balefwaya ukutulanga ukuti balechenjela sana mukulemba ichingeleshi? According to my understanding the reporters is saying “Since the mining company has given ZNBC money to broadcast the games this has boosted the excuses that ZNBC has. ZNBC can probably now look for more excuses.” Awe limbi bakatwiswilekofye ka website kamu chibemba nangu mu chitonga elyo tukala chita communicate bwino.

  13. ha ha ha! let the peps watch the games..and thx to the crooks for stealing the money and giving it back to the poor…robinhood’s style..

  15. Where is chitonga???? Tripoli and Lunshi pa Window .. The article here shows that ZNBC got $ 250,000.and has to raise $160,000 .. You have to know that Chiluba destroyed what KK has built. Privatalisation of mines gave millions of dollars to foreigners zambians are now beggers in their own country. The gold grabber from a Zimbabwean has been sold by big fish. An indicatiopn of the importance of mineral and our natural resources now controlled by foreigners. By in the KK time we used to watch all matchs live. Now the only thing is that everyone should pay for tv licence and introduce special channels for special programmes to raise extra monies. PF go after plunderers.
