Chief Kanyensha of the Swaka people in Mkushi district of Central Province has pledged cattle and 250 hectares of land to Zambia National Soccer team Goal keeper Kennedy Mweene.

Chief Kanyensha disclosed this to ZANIS in Kabwe yesterday saying Kennedy Mweene should be commended for saving Zambia from being knocked out of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament when he denied the Ghana’s Black Stars, a goal through a penalty.

The Chief was however quick to shower praises on the entire team for the manner it played Wednesday night’s game adding that he was sure this time, the Africa Cup would be won by Zambia.

Chief Kanyensha said he was impressed by the national team’s Semi-final result in which Zambia beat Ghana 1-0 to qualify to the finals.

The Traditional ruler said though team work produced the result, Mweene’s performance was outstanding thereby leaving him (Chief Kanyensha) with no choice but to award him with a cow and a steer (female and male) and 250 hectares of land to appreciate his service to the nation.

He said Mweene should travel to chief Kanyensha’s palace upon arrival from the AFCON tournament to collect his animals and also to see his 250ha land.

Chief Kanyensha has appealed to the Provincial administration to help Mweene in processing title deeds for the land he has been awarded.

The Traditional ruler said according to his assessment, Wednesday’s game was tough and was not easy for Zambia to emerge winners but because of resilience, the team managed to qualify.

“ I counted ourselves out when I saw the referee pointing to the penalty box. But little did I know that Mweene was steady and that he was there for Zambia, the boy impressed me a lot,’ said chief Kanyensha.

Another soccer fan, Honest Kaliki said Chipolopolo players deserved praises for beating teams such as Ghana which were regarded experienced and better on the continent.

Kaliki said Mweene did a lot for Zambia by parrying away the penalty kick and deserved to be commended.

Zambia beat Ghana 1-0 in the 79th minute through Striker Emmanuel Mayuka sailing through to the AFCON tournament billed for Sunday in Libreville, Gabon.

  1. Imagine if Zambia pulled together as one Zambia one nation the way the national team has done; a government that embodies national strengths. In the national team, there is no Ngoni, Lozi, Tonga or Bemba. It is Zambia, Zambia, Zambia! the players are playing as a unit, without tribal identity. That is what makes Zambia. The LORD God Alimighty knew why he put us together as a nation of many ethnical groupings. Let us exploit our strengths.

    • Well said indeed…i hope where ever you are plans are on the table for you go back home and begin to empower Zambians with such thoughts…there is alot of land in Zambia as can be observed from this article!

    • Tribes shouldn’t divide us!! just as well the first chief showing goodwill is from a different province, this is what we should embrace, supporting & giving credit to fellow ZAMBIANS!!! NOT CHEAP POLITICAL MONGERING!!!!

  2. I wish for once we could forget about these political intonations and live like the way it was in 1964.proud Zambians without looking at one’s tribe. Bigoted journalists and politicians have spoilt this country.

  3. Congrats chief!! Mwene (and the entire team) deserve such for their outstanding perfomance at the AFCON. Ingombe shibili (ilume ne ikota) muli Mweene!!!!!

  4. THE ZAMBIAN PLAYER WHO CAUSED THE PENALTY SHOULD ALSO BE PRAISED AS HE MADE AS SHOW GHANA THAT WE ARE A STRONG SIDE. BWANA GENEROUS CHIEF SIR, ANOTHER 150 HACTARES OF LAND WITHOUT AND 2 GOATS TO THE OTHER GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 500 HACTARES OF LAND WITH TITLE DEEDS, 6 HEADS OF CATTLE AND VILLAGE HEADMANSHIP TO RENARD HARVE!!!

  5. God does work in mysterious ways! Who would have imagined Mweene would receive favour in this manner? By choosing to be a footballer, pry his trade in South Africa, end up being a national gollie that he would be a landowner overnight!! He must be forever thanking his stars! (if Mweene is single, the chief should top up the cake with a cherry – a pretty swaka maiden! That will keep Mweene properly installed in Chief Kanyesha’s kingdom.

  6. The Chief should have not only given the 250 Hectares of land to Mweene but to the whole team. No one player is more important than the other

  7. chief, yiu shud have given 10hectares to each player for that dimension of land, not just one player.the boys have worked as team, congrats tho mweene.

  8. Awe chawama sana…let him use it wisely so he does not get impoverished like other ex-players way after his superb career is over. Mweene is my main man. Go Zambia Go!!!!

  9. This is good, it will encourage the whole team to work extra hard. Thank God for the Chief and for awarding Mwene what he deserves

  10. The goal keeper deserves a lot of Gifts! In fact the whole Zambian Team needs encouragement not only by chiefs but all Zambians

  11. I agree with #12. Better encourage the whole team. Sharing the piece of land would make a lot of sense to me. Maybe they are related somehow. Who knows?

  12. What iz a “herd of cattle”? Weldone “your highness”. If that Mwene had not saved that penalty, sure the story would have been the same.

  13. But Chief what about me? I scored the winning goal and I need to be motivated too. And without team work I wasnt going to score that wonderful goal so my mates also need some land, period.

  14. The Chief has done a commendable thing, that is the way to go, bussinessmen, all you guys who drive hummers and want us to regard you as rich, please let see you philanthropist, we will respect you for your gestures.

The Tanzanian has donated 11000 USD, what about our local tycoons!!!

    • Start with yourself bwana. Being rich is relative and you may be considered a tycoon by others who cant even afford a computer.

  15. the chief has set the stardand, how many chief are there in Zambia? ancountable let the other Zambain Billions motivate the Chipolopolo Boys for the job well done. Chiefteness Nkhomesha please some land also for Emmanuel Mayuka near Silver Rest School along Great East Road. And pliz dont barry the money underground give some to the Chipolopolo boys.

  16. Maybe Sata should learn to construct his cabinet on the same basis like Renard has built the triumphant Chipolopolo team. It is in our diversity that our strength as a nation lies, tribally bigoted appointments only yield mediocre results and as we have seen, the likes of Sichinga, Kambwili etc should never be in any team and only a tribally bigoted president could have such alarmist lumpens in his cabinet.

  17. Even in football ur still tribal, tongas will neva change!!!!!! Cmon guyz, ‘thoz players played as a team, so lets not single out one guy just because he is yo tribes man. I was more disappointed with that dj at phoenix who also had praises for Mweene because he is tonga!!!! He jokingly labelled him Tonga bull class one. Do not get it twisted, the presido promoted the Captain of the team, in view of the fact that Katongo lead the team to victory not because he is bemba.I forgotten that dj’s name …………. Patty yes thats him

  18. Well done chief. Without that serve, Zambia would be out of this tornament. I will add 2 cows fro Mwene as well. I wish Sata would learn from Renard, Kaunda, Chiluba, Mwanawasa and Banda. He cant fill the whole cabinet with Bembas, nephews, nieces, cousins, inlaws and boot leakers. That is why he can decree that Chirundu moves to Lusaka and all tribesmate will agree with him. If Sata was not a tribalist, this issue of K3trillion would not have arised

  19. Nomba uyu chief aleleta ulupatanyo, why only Mweene when its the all team which was playing?
Better 10 Hectars of land to each player who played.
It will be better if we win the cup cause we will forget abt all this Barotse land crap & only celebrate football.

  20. The chif is wise and very realistiuc. Whare can Muchinga players take a cow apart from hrowing a party? Bamuchnga muleke umwenso, shiti

  21. Chief kanyenshya, you are wrong!. You should have consulted your indunas before opening up your mouth to the media. The land you want to dish out is not YOURS, it belongs to the Swaka people you represent. The general populous in Central Zambia will NOT in any way allow you to do what you intend to do. Although I may be far away from my people of Mkushi, I will protest in the strongest possible terms during the ‘Chibwela-mushi’ annual ceremony so that you reverse your decision; I bet you must have been “pissed” on Chibuku when you uttered such nonsense…

  22. Indeed Mweene saved the day, good thinking Chief. I hear others were promoted after they scored goals. In all fairness, the entire squad should be rewarded equally by the President, we don’t want segregative awards-they are all Chipolopolo, it is team work.

  23. # 30 Mwape Mbokem , Ulichipuba sana , I bet you are “pissed ” on to jiliji.when posting that comment stop that stupid idoit.

  24. I totally disagree with those that say the chief should have divided the piece of land to cover all the players. He is free to chose like all of us are who to give a gift to. In fact the chief’s gesture is a challenge to the millions of Zambians out there to splash gifts to the team.

  25. Imwe mwe bantu please. The chief has allocated the land to one of his subjects. Let the other chiefs follow suit and give their subjects in the team land

  26. Please let the other chieves give to the remaining players. He has just openned the padora’s box. Let others follow. Thats the way it should go!

  27. At 23 Field Marshal you are spot on. Imagine for once and compare Mr. Sata and his cabinet to HR and the Chipolopolo. Here is my take1.
HR has a plan and he knows where he wants to take his team in meeting the expectations of the Zambians, Mr. Sata has no plan and he does not know where his cabinet is suppose to lead us 2. HR’s team is inclusive of all Zambians, Mr. Sata’s is more inclined to one grouping of people 3. HR sits with his team to plan and review (consultations) Mr. Sata does not (examples are abundant, realigning of districts and provinces and many more) 4 HR is decisive he punished Clifford for an omission, Mr. Sata realigned ministries to please Hon.Kambwili

  28. 36 Cont. 5. HR is discplinarian, Mr. Sata appeases, Hon Sichinga is indisciplined and about to cause a diplomatic row with China with his fake claim of fake money but Mr. Sata stll keeps him in his cabinet. 6. HR leads a cohesive team and Mr. Sata presides on the most uncoordinated cabinet in Africa. There are so many comparisons others please add on

  29. People, people please! Let’s commend the chief for rewarding Mweene’s individual skill on this particular one. There was no team work involved it was goal keeper versus one taking the spot kick primarily each one for himself and secondary for for the respective team. If anything how many of us had already seen the villain in the one that caused the spot kick against Zambia? It is difficult to imagine the tension that gripped the hearts of many moments the spot kick was being taken and the relief experienced when parried away. Such situations have led to loss of lives through heart attacks on most ardent fans! Let others follow suit and emulate the chief who is happy with the relief Mweene gave him by the save.

  30. THOSE AGAINST THE ISHAMFUMU, LEAVE THE CHIEF ALONE. IF MWEENE HAD NOT SAVED THT PERNALT, WE WUD VE BEEN TALKING THE DIFFERENT STORY. Jst pursue the other Chiefs, Ministers, Snr govt officials & the corporate world 2 award the remaining players. Stop critisising, sha!!!

  31. I TOTALLY DON’T UNDERSTAND BEMBA’S… MWEENE WILL DO GOOD WITH THOSE COWS INSTEAD OF OTHER PEOPLE WE KNOW THEY WILL USE THOSE COWS AS ” umunani” MALABISH… GO ZAMBIA GO

  32. I am moved to say the least. If the chief was chuffed most by mweene I don’t see why he has to give everyone else land! I am too proud of the team

  33. Ba Mweene PLEASE agree now before the crucial game. Make sure you sign on the dotted line. Preferrably by end of play today before the game tomorrow. I heard a wise man once say “buy land they are not making any more of it” so if someone gives you that much land, you are 250hectares ahead lol

  34. Zambia has alot of domant land if you dont we live in the jungo, we have more than 24 Chiefs in Zambia with domant land, each Chief is capable giving each player land instead of all players eyeing the 250 hectares given to Mweene. You fools think please.

  35. THE GAME BETWEEN IVORY COAST AND ZAMBIA WAS LIKE A FAMILY WATCHING THEIR BREADWINNER DIE AFTER BEING BITTEN BY A DOG THAT HAS NO TEETH. THE TEAM THAT HAS QUALITY BELIEVE YOU IS ALWAYS SUPPOSED TO WIN THE TROPHY.
SORRY THAT I DONT BELIEVE IN WHAT HAPPENNED THAT USELESS NIGHT
