Reuters reports that Stoppila Sunzu has set his sights on a move to England after becoming a hero in Zambia for converting the winning penalty in Sunday’s African Nations Cup final against Ivory Coast.

“I played for (French club) Chateauroux in the 2008-09 season and I would love to come back to Europe,” said Sunzu who is now with the Democratic Republic of Congo team TP Mazembe.

“I have a dream to play in England as I prefer Chelsea and Bolton Wanderers,” the defender told Romanian media on Thursday.

Zambia beat the Elephants 8-7 in a drama-filled penalty shootout in Libreville, following a 0-0 draw, to win the Nations Cup for the first time.

After the under-20 World Cup in Canada in 2007, Sunzu impressed in trials with English side Reading but he was denied a work permit.

The 22-year-old enhanced his growing reputation by keeping Ivory Coast and Chelsea striker Didier Drogba quiet for much of Sunday’s final.

“Drogba was almost invisible, it was very easy for me,” said Sunzu. “I have no secret, I’m not afraid of any player or team regardless of names.

“I was very confident throughout the match. I was focused and it helped me to convert the last penalty.”

Frenchman Herve Renard coached Zambia at the Nations Cup but Sunzu also credited predecessor Dario Bonetti of Italy who was sacked in October, two days after the team had qualified for the finals.

“He (Bonetti) is a great coach, he did a very good job,” said the defender. “He contributed greatly to winning the cup although he wasn’t with us during the tournament.”

Sunzu said the players were given a unique reception in Zambia after the final.

“It was unbelievable,” he said. “Such a thing has never happened before in our country.

“People marched through the streets of Lusaka to celebrate with us and we were received like heroes.”

  1. I know little about football, but this man is a dreamer

I know Glasgow Rangers are better than Chelsea because they have won many things here but why does he not dream higher to come here or Celtic?

    Chelsea are rubbish

    Thanks

    • Glasgow who???? Where do they play????? What sort of football do they play??????
Now now did I hear you right?? Did you say “ifi pombwa???” Explains why they are off my radar!!!

    • rangers are rubbish have gone into adminstration. plus zambia is above scotland on fifa ranking, hahaha. mushota lol you are a joker.

    • ka mushota, you big green fly. If you know little about football then why in Gods name are you commenting on this?! I’m hot on your trail. I know have your computers IP address. All I need now is a very distractive virus to get rid of you for good! Its just a matter of time now.

    • You are a bigger dreamer. this guy will make more money than you ever will in this lifetime. So just accept fate and know that there are a lot of Zambians in the Diaspora it is no longer a thing to boast about.

  2. Get everything you can Sunzu, you deserve it!! Just stay focused and disciplined, both on and off the pitch, and you will be rewarded handsomely financially. Go get them champ!!!!!!

  3. Mushota, I am amazed at the severity of your verbal diarrhoea.  Even Imodium cannot help you!

Sunzu, you are sooooo good any team in the world can pick you.  Wishing you all the best and holla when you come to London!

  4. MUSHOTA, RANGERS HAVE NO MONEY, CLUB HAS GONE INTO ADMINISTRATION BECAUSE OF DEBT, THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SIGN NEW PLAYERS.

  5. Yes, our time has come to dream big and aim high in life. There is a saying: – ‘Aim for the moon, even if you miss you will be amongst stars’. Kenyas have become the masters in long distance running. Zambians should become masters in football. If you what it bad enough, you will get it.

  6. Sunzu…HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE IT MAN…YOU ARE HEROES!!! YOU HAVE TAKEN THE ENTIRE ZAMBIA TO A PLACE WHERE WE HAVE NEVER GONE!!! HEROES YOU SHALL ALWAYS BE…AND NOW WE SHALL PUT THE ZED 93 TO BED BECAUSE OF YOU GUYS…THATS HUGE FOR US THAT HAVE CRIED ALOT THESE LAST FEW DAYS…MAY ALL YOUR DREAMS COME TO LIFE!

  7. @ Mushota Rangers is nothing compared to chelsea when it comes publicity and the hype a player can get or have when at chelsea,Rangers can’t afford to its players and u have the balls to diss chelsea which can pay for every1 at rangers including its fans u inclusive,

So let Sunzu go where he feels he can enjoy and that’s chelsea not Man U but Stanford Bridge u heard.! Sunzu come to the Bridge u will be team mates with Drogba

  8. Where ever you choose to go just remember to only sign once, your signature is very important now,do not entangle yourself, you are a great player and deserve the best good luck pal.

  9. #1 Iwe chipuba you mean the same Glasgow Rangers FC that’s gone into administration and has been docked 9 points!! hahaha

  10. Typical of racist brits to deny him work permit, i bet some paper pusher got his kicks that way. We need to have our own very strong football clubs so these guys dont have to go to europe. Promote own clubs in africa.

    • Zambia’s rankings weren’t right at the time, that’s why playing top football means national level football of the country you’re coming from should also be top level…

  11. Sunzu has all the attributes of playing in Europe and what they require here; height, presence and he is hard as nails to top it up he is a defender capable of overlapping!!

  12. Ala bane, “Mushota” chipuba chesu!! All treatments have failed!! Even Psychotherapy!! As such, she has been placed in a special asylum , the first of it’s kind, Nick just happens to be her carer, but ala tobelako!!!

  13. Way to go Sunzu! Accomplished people dream big. You truly relegated the overly hyped Drogba to a zombie. You gave him the blues. You closed the DOOR OF B`BARS so tight that DROGBAR had no chance of passage. You guys are amazing. You are overachievers who defied conventional wisdom that Ivoirians were the default superiors. You guys successfully tamed the highly fancied elephants that ended up chasing your shadows. They were so disoriented and in oblivion.  You all deserve to play not only in the big leagues but the elite leagues in Europe. You all can stand toe to toe, head to head and shoulder to shoulder with whatever big names exist in world soccer today. AWESOME!!!!

  14. Great job Sunzu, you really managed to “switch off” African soccer Diva Didier Drogba last Sunday with your versatile defense skills. He kept running his fingers cluelessly through his jerry curls. That’s why you were received like a hero because that’s precisely what you are!

And while you’re at it, please don’t dream too long. Take every opportunity to come back to Europe. I wonder why the English denied you a work permit earlier on? I agree with #15, the Bundesliga is also an alternative since they’re always scouting for young African footballers. .

  15. @ mushota.  zambia is above scotland on fifa ranking, hahaha. mushota lol you are a joker. i love you though. zambians are peace loving people. we might be poor but zed rocks right now. if i was scottish id hiding in the bush.

  16. @Nine Chale

Ati “He kept running his fingers cluelessly through his jerry curls” lol…jerry curls like Kurtis Blow!! lol

  17. this’ll be a good move. Chelsea is not a good team. Its full of old guys. Why not man united. You’ll have alot to learn from sir alex

  18. One morning i shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas i’ll never know….hahaha.. and he was Ivorian.

  19. Guys, dont waste your time on Mushota. This chap is a mental patient, who doctors have failed to treat. You know ichisushi nga chapusumuka pa matako?…… well, naleka.

  20. Mushota is realy a mental petient. I wonder if that came with her prostitution skills which landed her where ever she operates from. If she feels secured where is, why read the zambian blogs and not the european ones where she make us believe she is. As for our boy and hero SUNZU, boy you gat a space every where in the world. Good lucky my hero and bad lucky to that prostitute of a girl

  21. Sunzu has the Blueprint for Penalty taking the way he strolled singing away and as cool as ice score the title winning penalty that was out of this world Take a Bow Bro!!!!

  22. Iwe Mushota I think your sugar daddy is not giving you enough pipe and you have mental block. You need a muzwambalala 24 centimeneters long to cool you nerves. You are commenting on soccer, a subject you know nothing about and try to cheat us you are knowledgeable. Read about what is going on about Rangers and Celtics then come back and say somthing sensible here. Chelsea pays well. If you really wish a Zambian player well you would advise him to go where he can get good money while he still has energy in his legs.

  23. Sunzu u av wat it teks to play anywhere with that your confidence en determination,ur truly that copper bullet which can shoot down any striker..all the best my man!

  24. Sunzu… you are a great player! evaluate the offers coming your way very carefully. I am sure you can make it at what ever team for are world class. But please, please do not sign on two papers! look at what is happening to our another jewel in defence, one Mbola. the young man is also world class and would have made another mark had he played at the last Afcon. Any way there is time for everything, but we wish well and pray for better contracts for all of you guys. You are a marvel to watch. But please..discipline bane… do not take it to yor heads! Talent partners with discipline to flourish.

  25. Chelsea is better for Sunzu, i am sure even Drogba would recommend him, Manutd is not too good couse Ferggie hates African player, look at Jemba Jemba,Manucho to mention a few. this Boy is very talented and we need not to spoil his talent.

  26. Please forgive Mushota, he is sick in the head.

Can someone who has seen a person who is dull like this ***** Mushota challenge me

  27. Good Luck MWAICHE WESU, You CAN GET ANY TEAM. GO FOR MAN UNITED YOU ARE A REAL CHIPOLOPOLO. MAY GOD BLESS YOU IN ALL WHAT YOU DO. WE LOVE YOU

  28. Mushota an international *****, world disaster and obviously the biggest embarrassment of all times. I think she is in between a crushed cockroach and a green fly, if I were her I would zip my mouth.

  29. i am a chelsea fun and would love to see our boy at stanford bridge. nonetheless, i would be glad if sunzu went for a club that can fully utilize him whenever he is okay as this will sharpen him further. the problem with big clubs is that one risks being on the bench for much of the season. this is what i fear and wouldn’t wish it on any of our heros.i dont doubt his ability but it all comes to what the club does with the player. given a chance to play more games, only the sky is the limit for sunzu. all the best

  30. #1 Its a shame that just because your are in Scotland everything should be scotish including football. I would have spared you if you suggested Sunzu dreamt playing for Mushota United in Central province. The guys won the cup based on focus, team spirit and determination and you want to dampen that morale…. man your comments sucks like a truck load full of bull Sh***t. Check yourself

  31. Sunzu! Damn straight! This boy has talent. He worked very hard for that cup. He was the rock in our defensive structure. Where ever he goes is fine with me. I just want to see him succussed. He deserves it!

  32. No doubt Sunzu is a talented player. He frustrated many top strikers at Afcon 2012. They couldn’t just pass his solid defence. ANABASILIZA! Drogba, Asamoah, Yaya, Gervinho……. these guys were reduced to kiddies, small boys, ma ducks, vitumbuwa, kulas…..

My advice is, let Sunzu start with a fairly small team in Europe & build his prowess from there. Mind u, it’s a different ball game out there & chances of failure to tick are high. Learn something from Mayuka. Mayuka’s experience in Europe now equips him to play in EPL or La liga!

  33. Mushota if the blood that comes off your ass when ur having yo periods is making you hallucinate then throw yourself in a pitlatrine batch! Yo behaviour is typical of a bitch on heat sniffing on bulldogs dicks! Get a life you moron

  34. It’s a pity Man.U fan are unable to see that very few if any non European playerz ever walk tall for long at that club. Even Evra’s captaincy iz rather a big surprize. Sunzu go to a club which will recognize your talent, value and respect your signature.

  35. Mushota, if you are a dreamer don’t think everyone is a dreamer. You photo shows that u want to be what you cannot and will never be. Sunzu will be sunzu wherever he’ll play

  36. Guys, the only reason why Mushota keep coming here is that she still loves Zambia. All she wants is sunzu to go to Glasgow Rangers a team that has been docked 10 points, so that she can hook up with Sunzu. She is a bitch this lady, ib case you didnt know she she works at Gartneval Hospital in Hyndland as a cleaner. Mushota if am telling lies, confront me and i will say more.

  37. Sunzu, go mwaiche! Chi Mushota, you are hiding in slums in uk ukupipa amafi yabasungu. You don’t even have a one-roomed intwanikane in some shanty compound of Zambia. Sunzu has a heart for his parents. He bought them decent houses! Iwe walubutuka and really ashamed to come back. You will never walk the walks of Sunzu or go to countries he has been to, or even breathe the air he has breathed. Chi makaka, kolwe and attention seeker. Jealous kangaroo, wanya you will never meet the likes of Sunzu our Hero! Na ku state house tawakafike ko. Swayini!

  38. Ivory Coast have tried to petition the results for Sunday’s Final. In the International football courts they have filed a petition against Zambia’s win. Sitting in the courts before International court Judge Michael Chilufya Sata, was Dedia Drogba who claimed that Zambia used corrupt practices and wanted the courts to nullify the results. In submission Dedia claimed that Zambia won the hearts of all the Gabonese fans when they visited the Gabon disaster place that killed the entire National team in 1993, he said this gave most Zambian players more impetus to make sure that they won the much. In dismissing the claim judge Sata laughed it of and sentenced Drogba less playing at Chelsea as he was a failure in football and awarded all the Zambian players with huge cash and a house each

  39. Go to Germany or France, Premier league should be the least on every Zambian player’s mind. Its not the best league, just popular; they were always denying Zambian players work permits on flimsy reasons on our fifa ranking. Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Serie A & la liga. Go to England & you’re fininshed.

  40. Here is another chance to watch the nerve wrecking penalty shoot out…awesome..Sunzu singing as he is walking to the spot!!
