FORMER Finance and National Planning minister Situmbeko Musokotwane was yesterday interrogated for more than two hours by law enforcement officers.

This is in connection with the 1,230 bicycles that were recovered from his residence in Lusaka in October last year.
Dr Musokotwane said he was ready to appear before the security wings should they need him again because he did not have anything to hide.

He arrived at the offices previously used by the disbanded task force on corruption at about 14:00 hours and only left after 16:00 hours.

“The last time I appeared was in connection with the Varum Beverages issues but this time it was something to do with the bicycles which were recovered from my farm,” Dr Musokotwane said.

The former Minister, who is Liuwa Member of Parliament (MP) was served with a call-out last week but asked the investigating team to allow him a few days to organise his lawyer and other relevant details.

He is being investigated in connection with the bicycles and his decision to award Varun Beverages a tax deferment in disregard of the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) Act.

Dr Musokotwane’s firm, Zambuild Investments Limited, supplied building materials to Varun a few months after the firm was awarded the tax holiday.

Spokesperson of the combined team of security officers, Charity Chanda said Dr Mr Musokotwane would be called when need arises and that he cooperated with officers during interrogation.

Meanwhile, MMD national secretary Major Richard Kachingwe and chairperson for elections Gabriel Namulambe have been summoned to appear before the team at 09:00 hours this morning.

Maj Kachingwe has been summoned in connection with MMD campaign vehicles police seized from the party last year.
Mr Namulambe has been summoned in connection with 20 bicycles police recovered from him during the on-going investigations.

The team, composing officers from the Zambia police service, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and prosecutors from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) are investigating reports of corruption in the previous administration.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) officers are also in the team.

  1. Lets talk development not two wheels cars.

What about Health insurance for zambians. Could there be a way to introduce something like that.

  2. It seems this witchhunt is not going anywhere. Is the PF govt missing some bicycles from govt stores? Looks like a crime without a victim. Truth is; the ba kanyangu are under instruction from the Colonial Governor’s mansion to find a case against Dr Muso. My advice to the ba kanyangu is to gather enough courage and tell the new Colonial Governor that the native has no case to answer!

  3. This questioning are becoming boring, warn and caution seems to be an end in itself, when will people like Dora start papearing in court??? Is it becuase the one who is suppossed to be the co-accused Henry is on the run and so technically Dora is a free woman!!!

  4. @ 1. In a third world country with high poverty levels National health system is the way to go. This way everybody will be taken care off. It has worked in England and Canada. The states to much phony medical treatment by hospitals and Doctors just to make money !

  5. Please, the investigating wing when are these call ups coming to an end, we are getting tired of the behaviour of those officers. It’s time if true they have cases against those MMD guys to take them to courts of law, warn and caution is not the final judgement.Pathetic officers. What a combination which is resulting in a stinking compound, failures.

  6. Honestly speaking even you officer investigating and questioning wise pp like Musokotwane are you sure you dont have enough money in your personal accounts which can buy that number of bicycles? to be fair you are wasting our time and good to know very clearly that you are dancing to your master’s tune. Let’s hope when your time comes he will be there for you we are taking note of you all .

  7. 1,230 bicycles in someone’s backyard and you are still questioning him, can’t you ask him to produce a receipt of purchase… what’s the hold-up? Maybe we should outsource these types of crimes to Scotland Yard or FBI…these ZP Lilayi boys are stuck in a swamp and don’t have the boots for it.

  8. lets forcus on new things now,if i may ask :is it fine to somke in state house? Tha big man had that habit hey as he stoped 4real?
