Hanif Adams and Emmanuel Munaile ponder challenging Kalusha, as Kamamga steps aside and blames Kambwili

Andrew Kamanga not contesting for the FAZ presidency

LUSAKA Dynamos owner Hanif Adams and former Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) vice-president Emmanuel Munaile are in respective consultations with various soccer administrators on challenging Kalusha Bwalya for the association’s presidency.

Adams said in an interview yesterday that some clubs have asked him to contest the presidency at the March 31 elective annual general meeting in Kitwe.

This would be the second time that Adams seeks election as FAZ president. His first attempt was in 2008 when he finished third to Kalusha and Teddy Mulonga.

Adams says the clubs want him to lead the association because of his vast experience in football administration.

He declined to name the clubs backing him but said some also want him to contest the vice-presidency.

Adams said, however, that he will make a decision on the matter this monthend. “I had forgotten about seeking election in FAZ but the calls by the clubs have changed things. However, I have not yet made up my mind because I am still consulting,” Adams said.

And Former Kabwe Warriors Chairperson, Andrew Kamanga has withdrawn his candidature for the Football Association of Zambia-FAZ-top job. Kamanga’s decision comes following what he has termed as provocative statements from Sports Minister, Chishimba Kambwili ahead of the elective AGM.

He said that he was disappointed with the Minister’s remarks. Kamanga adds that he will continue to serve football in other areas especially grassroots football and talent identification.

Below is Andrew Kamanga’s full statement

Response to Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili’s Press Comments against Andrew Kamanga

As a law-abiding citizen and recognising the Minister’s position of authority and my respect for the office he occupies, it is with much reluctance that I have to respond to the media statements attributed to Sports Minister Honourable Chishimba Kambwili in which he attacks me unfairly.

I have in the last few days attempted to meet Honourable Kambwili to express my unhappiness at his remarks but been unsuccessful, leaving me with no option but to use the same medium he used to attack me.

First, I have to say I find it shocking that Honourable Kambwili chose to attack me for no good reason and to suggest that I habour feelings of jealousy against FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya is, highly unfair, and quite ludicrous.

It is within the Minister’s rights to give praise where it is due as he did in lauding the achievements of the national soccer team in winning the Africa Cup, but to suggest that myself and others who have exercised our democratic right to vie for the FAZ presidency and other positions are driven by malice or jealousy or other ill-feelings is most unfair and unfortunate.

The Minister asserts that I should have been the first person to congratulate Kalusha. It is quite obvious that Honourable Kambwili was not aware that I did offer my heartfelt congratulations to the National Team, the FAZ Executive and the Government for the AFCON win in widely quoted press.

I watched every game in several public places and cheered every goal and victory.

Having said this, I do wish to make certain observations. The first one is that the AFCON win is for all Zambians and while those in FAZ office have the right to claim credit because the triumph has happened on their watch, this is the result of a lot of hard work by a lot people within and outside the FAZ, who have laboured for years to bring this about.

So to suggest the victory is the work of one man or a few individuals is to be narrow-minded and to lack the sense of gratitude and humility befitting of this historic occasion.

Anyone who knows of my relationship with Kalusha knows that I have nothing personal against him as an individual.

Honourable Kambwili’s statements are no doubt coloured by the events of 2010 when I and others took issue with Kalusha’s executive on a number of corporate governance issues.

The substance of these issues was provided by the decision of four executive members of the FAZ to leave the association to express their own disquiet over the same issues.

For the record, I wish to state that the issues we raised against the current FAZ Executive in 2010 which led to the formation of the Interim Committee and subsequently the National Football League were as follows: –

1) Lack of transparency in sponsorship deals – Super Sport, Nike, MTN, international friendlies, international player transfers, etc
2) General lack of accountability in managing affairs of the association
3) Failure to follow due process with regard to the FAZ Constitution
4) Failure to observe good corporate governance
5) The need to restructure the league to allow for sponsorship at lower levels as a way of reducing the cost of running football by clubs.
6) Perceived lack of fair play

These sentiments were backed by more than two-thirds of the FAZ membership who attended a meeting at the Intercontinental hotel in Lusaka to express their own unhappiness at these issues.

These issues have not disappeared simply because Zambia are now the African champions. Until they are addressed, they will continue to create disharmony in the FAZ family long after the euphoria of winning the Africa Cup has dissipated.

It is an open secret that I was always going to contest the position of FAZ President at the forthcoming AGM. We have put together a formidable team of quality administrators who are capable of meeting the future challenges of Zambian Football especially the running of the local league from Super League to Provincial Leagues at different Divisions.

This is something I and my team feel very passionately about, but we realise that to achieve the success we crave, we would need the goodwill of the Minister of Sport. Having read his statement about me, it would be wishful thinking and folly on my part to imagine we could ever count on him for this support.

Honourable Kambwili has clearly taken sides as we go to the elections. With this in my mind, I am sure the Minister will be happy to learn that I am no longer interested in running for FAZ Presidency.

I will however be praying for harmony and progress so that we can build on the success we have achieved so far.

A strong local league will always guarantee success at national level. It remains my hope and prayer that those who will be elected at the next FAZ AGM will take that path to develop our football.

I encourage all our supporters to lend their support to other candidates who have put their names forward for various positions to serve in FAZ. I will continue to serve football in other areas especially grassroots football and talent identification.

Signed

Andrew N Kamanga

  1. You can’t win under PF’s tribal way of governing things. The only problem is that this widespread tribalism being perpetrated by Bembas in power is slowly generating resentments in other tribes and I’m afraid the future in Zambia is definitely ‘wako-ni-wako’. In future it will be Bembas complaining about tribalism, especially since they are very good at complaining about other tribes, although to them it is okay when they practice tribalism. Kambwili is supporting Kalusha majoryly for tribal reasons, we all know that. This is one thing I always say to my Bemba friends, you Bembas tend to be really backward, daft, and cheap in your heads. Kalusha didn’t win the AFCON, it’s the national team that won – maybe it’s Bembas who won NOT Zambia.

    • Talk of the pot calling the kettle black……… whatever your tribe might be!!! I guess in your eyes Sepp Blatter and FIFA are also bemba for having ruled in favour of Kalu’s executive when the issue of the wrangles between Kalu’s executive and Simaata/Kamanga was tabled? Since you are so knowledgeable about tribalism in Zambia what tribe is Kamanga?

    • Mundi ngai Saimbwende,
You thinking is exaggerated and very twisted. Bwalya is a bemba and chishimba is not bemba but from Luapula. A Hushi or tabwa or any of those small tribes in Luapula.

    • BaSaimbwende, you should be ashamed to be promoting tribalism where it is not due, your analysis is very cheap and baseless. Only a foolish human being would bring in tribalism in such an issue. Who is Andrew kamanga any way compared to Great Kalu? Zambian football history can never be complete without Kalu!. FYI bembas will continue to rule Zambia, I am bemba by the way.

    • # 3 its SICK people like you check thru the contribution its only you with the TRIBAL remarks..let me tell you and advise you go along great east road you will find a center which suits your reasoning Chainama MENTAL BLOCK.. your brothers will be more than Happy to have you…
As for Kamanga its his Choice and beyond Football he knows if he pushes too much his investment….
Go to the AGM until then we will know the FAZ president!!!!

  2. Kamanga is afraid coz is gonna lose if u think u can win stand and prove the minister wrong dont make excuses kabwiili is free to support anyone

  3. Q – How do you get a non-sports fan to read a sports article?

A  – End your headline with the words “Blames Kambwili”

….now how does that saying go about a leopard and his spots?

  4. If you were a Gentleman you would have waited for this opportune time for you to make contribution to Zambian football. Now with all that fracas you caused and what a great achievement from the person you said could not lead, You have made the right decision to step aside.

If you went by peoples advice that wait for the elections you would have been respected and voted for since Kalu has done his part.

  5. Kabwili’s mouth diarheoa will land him onto the streets very soon!!! Mature response Kamanga, keep it up and all the best.

  6. I find Kambwili immature and irresponsible in ways he has handled many national issues in all the three ministries he has served for the past four months since PF formed govt. He is simply not fit to be minister in any serious govt.
Conversely, Andrew Kamanga’s response to Kambwili’s unwarranted attacks is very mature, full of substance and real issues concerning governance of football and devoid of contemptuous emotions. He has shown leadership and respect for authority even in the face of malicious and abusive statements from the minister.
I urge Andrew to reconsider his position on contesting the FAZ presidency. Zambian football needs Andrew to be at the helm of its administartion

  7. Andrew don’t blame Hon Kambwili. You have just realised that you cannot beat Kalu so all you want is a face saver. We all know who was backing you when you were busy making all that noise.Anyway as # 2 has rightly put it ‘ GO AND WASTE YOUR TIME SOMEWHERE ELSE.’

  8. it is an open secret that RB and Teddy Mulonga were using you[Kamanga] to cause confusion at FAZ. since rb is no more, for which i thank God, am sure you now have no backbone and you have done that which i personally expected from you.

  9. Very well articulated indeed. I admire Hon Kambwili’z vibrance despite the tiffs he haz been associated with lately, but the statement he made with regard to the FAZ electionz iz misplaced.

  10. @ 3 Talk of the pot calling the kettle black……… whatever your tribe might be!!!

  11. sort out the mess at kabwe warriors where players are being evicted and have gone 4 months without salaries. shameless dimwit. viva great kalu

  12. Frankly if I read Hon. Kambwili’s comments correctly he said that he was disapointed by Kamaga’s failure to lauds Kalu and the Team for winning the AFCON. It is a known fact that Kamanga enjoyed support from RB and Kalu never complained of political or tribal support. Hadluck Kamanga coz this still is Kalu’s time and we are still behind him

  13. Good move man(Kamanga)! You cant fight against great Kalu. Wisdon speaks Simata Simata misled you. If I may ask where is he….? just retired. Yourself you re a coward & quitter. Now what happens to your parallel league and your supporters? Anyway wisdom has spoken. If you cant beat them join them. Long live great Kalu!

  14. Where is your pal Simaatako Simaatako. I thought you should concentrate on your parallel league with the support of RB and bring Bonnet in.

  15. ITS NOT ABOUT PERSONALITIES GENTLEMEN ITS ABOUT TRANSPERENT ON HOW ISSUES ARE HANDLED THATS WHY ZAMBIA IS BECUMNG POPULAR EVEN BAN IS COMING, LETS WORK HONESTLY IS KALU HONEST ON HOW YOU HANDLE ISSUES, CHANGE 4 THE BETTER OF THE NATIONS FOOTBALL AFCON IS JUST A TIN DROP IN THE WATER WHAT NEXT !FOCUS FOCUS

  16. Kamanga, why start the fight you unable to win? Kalu started the fight for FAZ presidency and won beating even the big man Teddy Mulonga. He fought for CAF membership, he won convincingly amidst Kamanga & Simata Simata calling him to resign from FAZ Administrator. The man is successful despite many oppositions. Look at hw he broght back Herve Renard, almost everyone objected, govt refused even to settle for HR’s bills. But today HR is Zambia’s bread and butter. Kamanga had Kalu’s profile in mind hence hs resignation and not Kambwili

  17. Hanif Adams has no leadership qualities. He can’t bear under pressure. He resigned just a day after when he was appointed Director at National Sports council. Kalu went hard and thick and RB but managed to withstand the pressure. we don’t need leadership that has no muscle nor a thick skin to withstand pressure.

Munaile on the other hand is a coward and a let down. He let down the FAZ council when he was badly needed. Ni muselela kwakaba. He wants to come back when things are good.

  18. You Zambians sopport blindly let FAZ president comment on those issues tabled. FAZ is full of thieves.Kalu played and coached the national he failed to bring the cup.Why should you praise him as if he is the one who was playing.

    • ok we will praise u bcoz u were playing 4 ivory coast and missed a key penalty which would have made zambia lose the finals.thanks ba DROGBA 4 facilitating our first AFCON final win.

  19. # 13 its only u who hz spoken sense, most of them don’t knw where its coming from.In simplicity he’s jst scared to b a big loser.

  20. With the cup in the corridors of Lusaka. It will even be more difficulty to unseat Kalu.Try your luck next time brother Kamanga.

  21. i always wonder y pipo have to blame hon CK coz he is straight foward and you always hate the truth you Zambian. Hanif Adams???? awee mwee some pipo shud just go ku farm and tabalapila ninshi?

  22. Dont blame Kambwili ,blame every usss that opened up the mouth that they want to unseat Kalu .These pipo spoke mountains when he fired Boneti. How many humble pies do u wanna eat before u say Gods timing is the best.Kalu missed the plane in Gabon aircrash in 1993 for the reason.AFCON TROPHY is one reason ,the other is world cup.Because he has blessings of many, more will fail and think Buloshi. We want to go to Brazil. There is nothing wrong in contesting ,but timing is VITAL IN LIFE.Kalu made MMD,PF,UPND etc to smile and eat together.

  23. Any employer looks at the CV,Kamanga ,Mwewa please put your CV online. You cant even manage your own wife ,now u think u can manage a sport with 13 million people wanting good results.

  24. Gents I strongly feel Kalusha should be given chance but he must be accountable to all FAZ afiliates period. Pivoty Simwanza is another person who has a heart for the game of football nd this can be evidenced by the number of donations he gives under privilged clubs.

  25. Kamanga please how can you involve Kambwili who just should up in sports yesterday? Every Zambian knows you are the second hater the country have, and the second most annoying Zambia has ever produced. I hope you are not considering taking your life, because your funeral may not be exciting.

  26. @Iyeee… If you so feel your Pivoty Simwanza has the heart for Zambian football. Go and tell him as well to come up with another Parrallel soccer league as did his minions Kamanga & Simata Simata. The result will be either retirement from football administration or resignation from contesting top football positions.

  27. ba boniface ask your self why kamanga steped down dont loose your head u resigned with no reasons and now you want to recontest no ways relax,

  28. Kamanga’s puppet master RB is not in the picture. How can a puppet move if there is no one to pull the strings? Kalu is his own man who has made achievements on his own. Next time you do something significant in your life, try self motivation. Until somebody comes to tell you what to do, bye bye.

  29. Kamanga wants Kambwili fired. Jus how can you unseat a winner like Kalu? Wrong timing. By the way he is trying to get sympath. Great Kalu. Kamanga all you want is ukusheta umuzulu.Dont blame Kambwili. He has his own issues but Kamanga has a motive. If he cant show his skills at Kabwe Warriors really a big club like Faz He can?

  30. Only a very selfish, and unwise person can stand against Kalusha. Surely, the Zambia U20 have just won the COSAFA, , then National Team just won the AFCON for the first time. Then why would you wish Kalusha to go? Many countries in African (Tanzania, South Africa, Namibia, Malawi, etc) have decided to consult Kalusha on HOW they can also properly organise football in their respective countries.Kalusha has deonstrated that he is the FAZ president. I respect Munaile, but I think he is now embarrassing me and others who believe in him. If he goes ahead to stand, Munaile baka Munaya!

  31. This guy caused my team Kabwe Warriors to be relegated. He wants also Zambia to be relegated. Just remain tapping talent (in any case what talent has he even tapped before). Kalu has a rich CV and his achievements cannot be doubted. Pa Zambia too much pull-him-down syndrome. This chap and SS would have jumped with glee had the team failed. They would have claimed that failure was due to ‘poor’ governance at FAZ. Kalu showed great fortitude to support Herve Renard when everybody was against him. Just shut up bwana, ala.

  32. Sorry, Kamanga. Zambians have been taking vitamins and their memories are no longer as short as they used to be. We all know where this is coming from – you will not fool us with a short-lived explanation. Honourable people just step aside and walk off when no one is watching. Your writing skills do not hide your frustrations! Good bye …

  33. # 3 its SICK people like you check thru the contribution its only you with the TRIBAL remarks..let me tell you and advise you go along great east road you will find a center which suits your reasoning Chainama MENTAL BLOCK.. your brothers will be more than Happy to have you…
As for Kamanga its his Choice and beyond Football he knows if he pushes too much his investment….
Go to the AGM until then we will know the FAZ president!!!!

  34. Great Kalu is so great that these so called soccer adimnistrators that have failled at their clubs and think they can manage national teams. To hell all with those that do not enjoy and appreciate the AFCON win. Eyes on Brazil Great Kalu – LONG LIVE FAZ and its current leadeship…..Let the failiers attempt… tukaminaya bafikala. They ran away and they want to come back….what has changed? is it the trophy they want to be rubbing shoulders with? VERY embaracing characterss…. They Should retire like their SS the dog.

  35. winning trophies doesnt make someone a gud administrator while i dont ve anything against kalu, transparancy hs 2b dere.he has a gud chance of winning but some of doz genuine concerns raised by kamanga needs 2b appreciated.mwe bantu, vry soon & vry soon de euphoria of winning de afcon ll go,then wat next!are we saying kamanga is all wrong?is kalu doing everything right?is chishimba right by taking sides in an election, can it be credible?are dere no other pipo hu can lead faz apart 4rm kalu, kamanga, simata & de like?i feel we need change and new pipo.am against both kalu & kamanga…any dats me!

  36. Yes Haniiffa has no experience and he can not withstand pressure. I thank God for Kalusha the guy is pressure proof despite heavy weights ralling against him.Thats way the cup has come to Zambia. We need thick skinned administrators.

  37. Just a statement from the minister makes kamanga quit. he is weak indeed and does not deserve a leadership position.

infact he was just looking for an alibi to use for chickening out

  38. Mr. Kamanga read this paragraph from YOUR letter again:
“The Minister asserts that I should have been the first person to congratulate Kalusha. It is quite obvious that Honourable Kambwili was not aware that I did offer my heartfelt congratulations to the National Team, the FAZ Executive and the Government for the AFCON win in widely quoted press”.
You are admitting that you did NOT congratulate Kalusha. Next time ask a Lawyer to lie professionally on your behalf.

  39. Kamanga why interest in Faz when you and Simataa have formed national league. Go and administer the NL and leave faz alone.

  40. Don’t involve the issue of tribe,Zambia worn the AFCON as a team.Nearly all the tribes were represented in the team.Of course Kalu’s efforts have worked well

  41. Minister uku nimuselela kwababo. Sata fire this guy, it’s too much. The guy is a dictator. Zambia is a democratic country. Is this guy the re-incarnation of Gadaffi?

  42. Oh Poor Kamanga you knew it very well that you stand no chance against Kalu. be a man enough to admit that the chaos you created in the hope that it will destroy FAZ did not work. I pity you. Instead of weakening FAZ you even gave them the power and wisdom of leading the national team to achieve what we were all waiting for. I thought in your response you were going to congratulate FAZ and the national team but oh God it was nowhere. Go home Kamanga. Zambia made Southern Africa Proud (From Zimbabwe)

  43. The truth is that our AFCON WIN has greatly boosted Kalusha’s image and chances of emerging victorious at next month’s polls even though it may not necessarily be a direct result of his work as FAZ president. And it could also be true that given this scenario Kamanga realises he could embarrass himself by standing against Kalusha. But we all know that this AFCON win has not and will not change this FAZ executive’s appetite for sponsorship monies and players’ transfer fees. So we use the most effective means of eliminating this cancer before it eats our soccer. Remember, we now have an even bigger challenge to prove that our win was not a fluke. We need to retain the cup or at the very least lose it in another final !!
