In a significant event held in Livingstone, President Hakainde Hichilema had the honor of meeting with 250 Chief Executives of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO). This esteemed assembly of global business leaders, representing 150 countries, collectively employs 22 million people and generates trillions of dollars in combined revenue.
The YPO members, accompanied by their families, have convened in Livingstone for their annual conference, drawn by Zambia’s renowned tourist attractions, including the majestic Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Among the notable attendees is Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, a prominent Swiss businesswoman.
During his address, President Hichilema encouraged the YPO members to invest in various sectors of the Zambian economy, highlighting opportunities in health, mining, agriculture, tourism, and energy. He emphasized Zambia’s peaceful and stable investment environment, noting the country’s smooth transition through four administrations and seven Presidents, which underscores Zambia’s strong unity and family values, making it an attractive destination for businesses and their families.
“We urge YPO to prioritize fair capital, value addition that will create more jobs, advanced technology, and joint ventures with Zambian partnerships as you consider investing in our country,” President Hichilema stated.
The President’s message resonated with the audience, reinforcing Zambia’s position as a promising and welcoming investment destination.

Be very careful with the so called European investors. They are harvesters and have no intention to see Africa prosper. Africa to them is a resource and a facilitator of their way of life. We need to change our strategy on how we deal with Europe.

This is what the opposition should be focused on. The opposition should be demanding to scrutinise every single thing this fellow, and for that matter any other president, signs with foreign business men. This one worries me more than others, and I do not want to find that on his last day in office, he has signed deals in which all our minerals have been given to foreigners. He has given the money for carbon credits to white game ranchers, while the charcoal burners and sellers he has vowed to drive out of business are getting nothing. Basically, Zambia’s forests clean the pollution created in Europe; Zambia agrees to not industrialise or use fossil fuels; the little money it gets from white people in Europe for compensation, he gives to white people in Zambia. Where is the opposition?
Many people do not understand that people are different. Some people may appear weak, that could be their strength because the wonders of God are too numerous to count.

The opposition needs to get together, forget the tribalism, and hold Hakainde and UPND accountable. When they talk violence and tribalism, they let him off the hook. The oppositions needs to see exactly what is being discussed. We do not want a repeat of the Chiluba bullsh1t handed our country off to Boers from South Africa, who looted our minerals, uprooted some of our industries like Kapiri Glass Factory, and recreaeted them in South Africa, where we are probably now importing the bottles made from the machines we used to own. The opposition must come together and protect our country. Unfortunately, they are busy trying to get back in power on the coattails of a violent, thieving, tribalist Lungu.

That is what Chiluba thought; HH is with these white people because the US $32.5 debt that Sata and Lungu borrowed and stole is being used to force us to sell our resources to these white people. This is precisely why they gave Lungu and Sata that unpayable debt. That is precisely the reason for a debt trap. HH has no choice in the matter. The export of electricity, the removal of subsidies from maize and petrol, are all conditions for getting money from the IMF and for restructuring the debt. HH warned Sata and Lungu about those loans. That being said, the opposition can make it all but impossible for the white people to steal our minerals. They are not in government, so they can start a campaign to forestall the stealing of our minerals.

Sata and Lungu borrowed US $32.5 billion, which Zambia will never be able to pay. HH is being made to dance in the wind, in order to get some sort of relief from that debt. This is the whole reason why that debt trap was set up for Zambia. What you are seeing in that room are the masters of our country. The opposition, which created the problem, should get together and demand to know if HH signed any deals in England last week. The opposition should demand to see what deals he is negotiating with white people. Part of the problem is that opposition made the presidency too powerful. This benefitted them by allowing them to obtain loans from anywhere and steal the money. Nevertheless, we need to protect our country, so we must demand that HH tells what he is doing

Guys, we need a law in Zambia, stipulating that ANY treat, which includes loans, or development contract, that any president signs, be put for scrutiny and approval of our representatives in parliament. No single person should have the power to saddle our children with debts they cannot pay, as Sata and Lungu did with US $32.5 billion; and no president should have the power to sign our away natural resources. Kaunda had this power, but we were lucky that he was a good steward of and did not abuse it. On the other hand, I do not want anyone, HH included, to have that kind of power.

Just meeting them and posing for pictures is not enough. You would have asked your ministers in finance, agriculture, commerce, tourism etc to assist local entrepreneurs, manufacturers, businessmen etc get links to this people and take advantage of their presence to come up with joint ventures.
The President perceives investment in an old fashioned way……like the MMD. We advised him to focus on building local innovation capabilities across sectors and regions. Innovation would result in proliferation of startups. Based on this, invite foreign investors to invest and partner with local startups. If he focused on innovation he would be showcasing local startups to the world.
