Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman has commended Zambia for embarking on a constitutional reform process with the end goal of strengthening democracy through a more even distribution of power.

Under Secretary Sherman has challenged the youth to remain engaged throughout the process.

She has also encouraged the Zambian government, Technical Committee, and National Assembly to work closely with civil society throughout the process, to educate Zambians about the implications of reform measures, and to interact substantively with all levels and regions of society in an inclusive dialogue that will result in a durable constitution that enjoys broad consensus, particularly young people.

During her visit, she met with head of the Constitutional Technical Committee, Chairman Annel Silungwe and met with national leaders, civil society, youth, prominent female leaders, and journalists.

The Under Secretary exchanged views, underscored U.S. interests, and explored ways to strengthen collaborative efforts that promote good governance, economic growth, regional security, social development, and human rights.
In her address, Under Secretary Sherman announced that the United States government plans to provide $1.26 million in new assistance aimed at strengthening good governance and supporting institutions working toward constitutional reform.

She noted that support would be offered to the Technical Committee, the National Assembly, and civil society organizations. Under Secretary Sherman said the United States seeks to support those working toward constitutional reform to find ways to bolster the capacity of civil society and public institutions, and to further the goal of ensuring peace and prosperity for all citizens

In her meeting with Vice President Guy Scott, Under Secretary Sherman lauded Zambia’s peaceful democratic transition as a model of democracy.

In her discussions, Under Secretary Sherman urged continued public engagement on issues related to shared foreign policy priorities, including transparent anti-corruption efforts focused on institutional reform and elimination of gender based violence.

Under Secretary Sherman is the highest ranking U.S. official to visit since Zambias peaceful democratic transition in September 2011.
Her visit highlights the long-term U.S. commitment to Africa and strengthens the strategic partnership between the United States and Zambia.

  2. Waste of time, Wendy!

There is no one whatsoever who has an MBA, CIMA, ACCA BSC degree at Oxford Brookes, doing their PHD in their 20’s engaged to a white-man and living abroad

These dreams are beyond the comprehension of an average Zambian, and if my education pedigree is anything to go by I doubt there is anymore than 2% of the Zambian populattion who should have the audacity to stand up to me when I try to educate people on this blog
Numbers don’t lie, and numbers are with me, hence It is useless to educate Zambians Wendy Sherman,

Sheer waste of time, I have been on here long enough to know that when you know a lot and are educate and smart like me , all you get is insults like I will get now, when the bottomline is I cant help being good.

    Thanks

  3. Its true that we zambians need to be educated more about policy reforms because these will impact our lives one way or the other whether we like it or not.We shouldn’t let uneducated illiterate party cadres shape Zambia’s future. It no wonder people like Mushota boast of their credentials(real or assumed) Zambians need to jack up and the intelligentia need to stop being selfish and impact Zambia

  4. Praising Zambia for “peaceful democratic transition” is grossly misplaced. There was no peace. RB wanted to cling to power! A few patriots had to surrender their precious lives before he buckled under pressure. Is that peaceful transition? A few lives don’t count? uh!

  5. In fact, since I have I have time to waste, let me educate you some. Being engaged to a white man is not a be all n end all! I think u have an inferior complex, u have to work on that madam or mister, whichever u r!

  6. The only way Zambian will fully participate and read the draft constitution is by appending bits and pieces of the document on the packets, sachets, bottles of chibuku lsk-Nkwazi (Timbwi)-tujilijili-mosi.castle etc and to pay the English football teams to append words on their football jerseys (Your see these BAmuntus wearing the whole constitution of Zambia in draft and final copy ) If you put it in a book only Guy Scot will read it.Thats Zambia the real (F..##King) Africa for you

  7. #4 Wantanshi there is a word for people like you- delusional…RB gave over power peacefully. He has displayed the uttermost maturity. No lives were lost. there was no war in Zambia. You should visit Zambia once in a while and not rely on hear say.Read and educate yourself even as you enjoy life in Gauteng.
