People of Zambia have all the power to have my immunity lifted-Rupiah Banda

Former President Rupiah Banda
Former President Rupiah Banda

Former republican president Rupiah Banda said that the people of Zambia have all the power to have his immunity lifted. The former president said he is not scared to face any prosecution that might arise should his immunity be removed.

Mr. Banda has however stated that his immunity should not be removed out of malice, but only when strong evidence is provided to warrant his prosecution. He has called for the truth and not unsubstantiated claims that he mismanaged the country while serving as president of Zambia.

In his farewell speech as MMD president during a press briefing at his residence in Lusaka today, Mr. Banda stated that he has nothing to hide because his record is clean. Mr. Banda has however reminded the current PF government that they will one day leave office and the same treatment might be served on them.

He has further revealed that he enjoyed working for the people of Zambia. He has called on Zambians to move forward in the different sectors of the economy.

Meanwhile, President Banda has justified his decision to relinquish the MMD party presidency earlier than expected. He said that he has decided to step down as president following the invitation he has received from Boston University’s African presidential archives and research center in the United States of America to provide various lectures.

He said the programme will require him to be out of the country for a period of three months. He explained that at first, the university wanted him to be in USA for one year, but that because of the commitments in the country he couldn’t be out for that long.

Mr Banda said that he has found it prudent to take up this new assignment which will require his time and energies during this period. The former president restated that as earlier promised after the 2011 elections, he would leave the MMD to the younger generation to lead.

He revealed that the Boston University programme begins at the end of the month of March. President Banda emotionally thanked his predecessors for serving the party with diligence. He has also thanked every member of the party for the love and respect he was accorded to serve as MMD and republican president.

And president Banda has noted with sadness the deregistration of the MMD by the register of societies. He said that the decision is a big mistake which needs to be quickly corrected by the parties involved.

He said that the MMD still represents the bigger majority of Zambians considering the number of votes it got in the last elections. He said that the decision is in itself trying to take away the freedom of the many Zambians that still believe in the MMD.

  1. What lectures is he going to give when he has un solved problems of his dealings and the Mpundu trust fund, will follow him, till the money he stole is returned. You are not clean with your children. We wont miss you.

  2. Every thing has time, it is just sad that as people we do not realize how true that is. It is time for PF to be in power and some day soon or later it will be their time to be out of power. PF do concentrate on real issues such job creation, education, health and Agric. The are important for all even for your supporters. Once we have a health and educated nation we shall acheive a lot, unlike today with poverty in the up 80% of the population.

  3. Godspeed big man, you’re a true democrat and a fine diplomat. A sharp contrast to Psycho Mata, a functional illiterate who has turned our fledgling democracy into a daily circus. Don’t worry, rest assured their days in office are numbered and their ending will be miserable.

  4. I personally believe these man meant well by was misled by the sycophants who surrounded him especially after the death of the late Levy Mwanawasa (MHSRIP)

  5. I personally believe that this man meant well but was misled by the sycophants who surrounded him especially after the death of the late levey Mwanawasa (MHSRIP)

    • ”I personally believe that this man meant well but was misled by the sycophants who surrounded him especially after the death of the late levey Mwanawasa (MHSRIP)” Soma, are you mad??? his clown never meant well from the word GO! He stole when he served in various government portfolios and was even locked up for stealing furniture belonging to government in Egypt. Since when did he begin to mean well????

  6. Trying to ran away from prosecution by hiding in Boston? Just stick around until the dust has settled you broad daylight bandit!

  7. RB fleeing with Thandie. We shal never see them Nor prosecute them. We are so docile as Zambians. We continue showing weakness.

  8. Looking at the way PF is performing now, RB looks like a star even though his government was very corrupt. PF are not focused on developing the country and are more interested in undermining the opposition and striping Zambians of their rights. The poverty of their intellectual power is quite apparent, lacking high calibre individuals to carry out programs. Jobs in the civil service should be advertised. That is the norm in all healthy democracies. I would suggest to Sata to bring on board all competent Zambians in the opposition (Magande, Mutati, e.t.c) and bury the hatchets. Go well RB, Bon Voyage!!

  9. Farewell my beloved country. Think of me kindly :) During my term I was an absolute gentleman, followed the law to the letter and led a sanctified life. Complain not fellow citizens for my followers will tell you how I manned a perfect ship and saw you safely through financial storms. Western debt relief played no part and Eastern investments hold no water. Leave my smart business minded offspring alone and allow my party which was unfairly deregistered to emerge triumphant in court. I will think fondly of you poor street kids and AIDS orphans as I earn the big bucks and globalise my many successes. I will take care of my health and hope you make good use of my mobile clinics. I will point at our 127 million dollar gain from a 6.7 billion deal and others like it and beam with pride. Bye.

  10. ”..beacause of commitments in the country” Which country and what commitments??? he was never serious about anything when he was president, now he worries about commitments. Iyo kwena !!!

  11. I think the government should stop him from going to USA, They have a bad record, look at the son he is still at large.

  12. What will you say about Henry and the Zamtel saga in your lectures in the USA on the following topic..”The Extended Power of the Presidency: Corruption by Proxy”

  13. He said that the decision is in itself trying to take away the freedom of the many Zambians thieves that still believe in the MMD.

  14. What is bound to happen when PF is no more is NOT your ndaba ba Bwesani Lupiya. Very shortly, you will devour your own vomit; Pembera first…

  15. No one can take away the fact that you did your part and the incumbent inherited a peaceful and economically viable nation. What happens afterwards will be accredited to the PF, bad or good. And no one should start blaming the eurozone problems as ours because bwezani was president during the world eco crisis and he sailed us through. So if you did not take time to tap his wisdom, its your own fault because now the clever Americans have found use for him. Trust me, there is a lot to learn from one who has been president and Zambians because all we are interested in is making our former heads of state look f@olish, we shall forever remain stagnant. We failed to learn from KK and FTJ and now we are a village without elders.

  16. Why do i keep thinking Sata will try to frustrate this? Is it because he tried to frustrate the Congo mediation?

  17. To be honest only Pathetic Fools (PF) can insult a man of such hihg calibre. Even if people complained about his frequent travels, it is now very clear than the man is a great economic manager. All economic indicators where very good in his time. Inflation, GDP, Exchange rate stability, infrastractural development e.t.c I am glad I am not one of the fools chi Satan Hoodwinked to vote for him. Even as these regrets come from all corners of the country, I will still say atleast I did not help this incompetent Presido come to power. Go well RB you are a great son of the mother land I am sure by the end of this year more ans more people will be wishing they retained you!

  18. The way we are castigating him is like we are the saints. No one is a saint. Leaders make certain decisions they live with in their time, becoz they are human, just like us. Look at George W. Bush and the decision to invade Iraq, Afghanistan, he still a leader and was recently here. Let the big man go in peace, he did his part for Zambia, he and his govt tried their best despite shortcomings which is normal. but he left a vibrant economy, single digit inflation, enough reserves in the bank of Zambia, investor-confidence and bumper harvest. Those are good deeds which are now being put in reverse gear by the unpredictability of the PF govt coz what is happening now is short of saying a circus, no wonder the popcorns are becoming rare in supermarkets as they are being bought like I dont know.

  19. .
Hats up RB!! . Its time to go to the next level in your life. You did your best and made some mistakes. Its expected from every of us not how good or talented we are.

You left $2 Billion Dollars in reserves and these guys have already started blowing the reserves funds recklessly and they cannot tell the nation.

We know that Sata behind the doors has “ By Proxy Officially” decided NOT to remove your Immunity having gone round searching for misleading wild goose chases. His support has really dwindled to the fight on corruption, internally and internationally. Plus judging on the “wrong footed stance” he as started from running this nation. That said corruption should not be condoned by all means.

  20. .
While western ex-leaders such as Tony Blair & Bill Clinton make about $200,000 per Circuit Lecture seating in one day, you will be paid $1m Dollars per month for the next 3 months, plus all bills and accommodation paid for.

That is good value for an ex president of Zambia. You among the very few world leaders, that have been invited to the American Circuit Lecturing. Good Luck!!

    • Stop lying also, not even Mandela wud make that. Boston Uni is gona pay him yes but not 1m dollars per moth, stop dreaming man.

  21. the highest level of hypocrisy, this man needs to be reminded of his many atrocities against the Zambian people. Mr Banda do you remember Chansa kabwela, do you remember your selfish and ill intentioned Chanda Chimba programs, do you remember attacking innocent citizens like the catholic bishops, fr bwalya & many others. As if that is not enough do you remember how you protected Chiluba a thief, do you remember how you went aganist Zambian’s wish and sold zamtel under your so called smart Dora? well you are not wise old man and I hope Sata learns a lesson from your sad ending becuase of your wickedness.

    • Well done #Zambian cos a lot of fools seem to have forgotten. They also seem to have forgotten that PF have only been in power for not even a year and expect them to clean up all the mess that MMD has left over the 20 years they had been in power and this is the reason why people steal because they want every thing to happen over night. *smh*

    • WELL SAID ZAMBIAN…WHAT A LIAR YOU ARE. CHILUBA WAS ACQUITTED BY A COURT OF COMPETENT JURISDICTION-NOT RB AND THERE IS NO PROOF WHATSOEVER THAT HE HAD A HAND IN THE ACQUITTAL APART FROM WHAT MMEMBE TOLD YOU. UNLESS YOU HAVE SOMETHING TANGIBLE. AS FOR CHANDA CHIMBA HE WAS QUOTING THE POST NEWSPAPER-REMEMBER THAT THE POST WERE AGAINST SATA; WHAT CHANGED? DID SATA DIE AND GO TO HEAVEN FOR THEM TO DO A 360* TURN AROUND? AS FOR FR BWALYA HE IS SO USELESS-RELIGION AND POLITICS SHOULD BE FAR APART-DO YOU STILL RESPECT HIM NOW? HE IS A DISGRACE. ZAMTEL IS LOST NOW WITH THE RUNNING IT ANYWAYS DULL WINTER WILL FREEZE IT TO DEATH. SATA IS TOO OLD TO LEARN ANYTHING THIS TIME. IF YOU CAN PROVE WITHOUT REFERENCE TO THE POST NEWSPAPER AS YOUR SOURCE OF INFORMATION PLEASE CRITICISE

  22. let RB just f off, we dont care and good riddance. Meanwhile, this lunatic of a president continues to nosedive the country

  23. What lectures is he going to give at Boston? Plunder and corruption made simple?
I agree with #38, he betrayed Zambians during his 3 years as president and surely who would be interested in where he is going and what he does, may be his fellow plunderers and beneficiaries.
We only want to see him defend himself in a courtroom.

  24. .
RB is not running away. He has been invited and Sata has given him the clear to pursue the Circuit Lectures. This is a protocol that a head of state has to be aware of when another ex president decides to leave the country.

So for all those scheming that he is running away, its not true.

The same protocol has applied to KK, Late Chiluba and will apply to Sata when he leaves office.

The only person that is so angry about all this is Fred False Prophet Mmembe as he tried to persuade Sata to stop RB from going. However, Sata told Mmembe that he is the President and not the other way round.

  25. This is a real man. Now, he is slowly discovering that the respect he is now being given globally is bigger than it was when he was President. People respect principles not political position. He lost elections and stepped aside without incident and now he reaping the rewards for respecting democratic principles and for showing that he is a mature democrat. Whatever haters and PF cadres will say he has made it into the global world as a professional this time and this American stint will very likely net him about a million DOLLARS – far better than he was trying to scrap around stealing from travelling imprest. Meanwhile, let PF dig its own undemocratic hole and die off within 5 years. Good luck mdala. No jealous apa!!!

  26. Great democrat! Well said Sata and all his relatives in govt will dance to the same tune. Useless PF are busy dividing the country and running everything down! By next year we’ll be in ruins.

  27. , The US intelligence [CIA, FBA, etc] all have dossiers on RB’s corruption and crimes against this country and yet you have a leading US University giving this thief and criminal a golden parachute!!! This is how developed countries undermine the development of sustainable governance systems in Africa. In America at the same time of development, RB would have been taken outside and shot without the benefit of the courts of law. What Boston University is doing is trying to launder RB to respectability!!!

  28. RB had his faults but you can’t compare him to that lunatic Sala who can’t even construct a proper English sentence. Ati president, shame on you Zambians for putting such a thug in power.

  29. You will only be missed by people who are blind to corruptions may be bcoz they are equally corrupt. As for many Zambians back home, it is good riddance.

  30. People line Zambian above you remain poor and miserable because you can’t see beyond your noses.

The man will continue to accomplish things while you consume yourselves with petty jealousies. One reserves comment on whether or not RB was personally guilt of the corruption that you allege, and we all condem corruption, but hats off to the guy. This invite from Boston University at circa $1million per month is no mean achievement.

I wish RB and his family well. That’s what good Zambians across the country will also do.

  31. Those who think that they have a better president now in SATA, than they had in RB have little understanding and foresight.
They can only tell what has happened and are unable to tell what is likely to happen.
They are moved by sight and not insight.
They are controlled by words and not understanding.
They believe in saying, “unless I die i will not believe this thing is dangerous”
    Who will help this generation?
Who will rescue them from their challenges in wisdom.
SATA makes a wrong decision; they clap.
SATA reverses the decision; the clap.
SATA starts wondering what to do next; they clap.
    SATA gets stack; they cheer.

All I can say about this generation is that they have a serious challenge and do not know here they are going!!

  32. The most important thing iz retiring az MMD prezident not the halabolo about why and what he will be doing thereafter. Let him enjoy hiz dezerved pozition of “former prezident” and the respect and benefits that go with it.

  33. Thanks for the memories RB. My favorite one being the …”ahhh, kanitundila” bit. Not only did you prove to be the worst president Zambia has ever had, even a state house monkey had to piss on you. Something that never happened not once to any president, ask KK. You showed us (Zambians) just how much power the President can have by your frivolous trips and lavish spending on your family. Speaking of family, you also showed us that, when in power, your kids are free to do whatever they want, and no one can say shit about it. You truly were a statesman Zambia had never seen, and hope to God will never see again. Go well, but remember, you still have a lot of questions to answer. Your immunity will be stripped. So, saddle up buddy, it’s gonna be a ROUGH ride, trust me!

  34. 52# BAKULU

Well said & keep spreading the good message!!

Jealousy is the master of dribbler of our Power of Creativity in our minds. When you become jealousy you mind defaults to stagnation and stops activating Innovations & Inventiveness

The end result is always bitterness and you become a big looser in life.

  35. BUFF80N RB how many farewell speeches are you going to give us…please just jog on….you have nothing to fear if you didn’t do anything wrong.

  36. 52# BAKULU

Well said & keep spreading the good message!!

Jealousy is the Master Dribbler of our Power of Creativity in our minds. When you become jealousy your mind defaults to stagnation and stops activating Innovations & Inventiveness

  37. good riddance RB! u showed us our powerful an african president can be! may sata not follow your style,u inherited a gud team frm mwanawasa but sata seems not to ve a workin team.we wl watch PF’s every move we shall never be taken 4a ride.Go well

  38. The Run Away RB, sounds like a good novel really. But with the Joseph Kony incarnate now in zed its a smart move.

  39. Go well man of wisdom, u deserve it, may God continue to bless you abaduntly you are a true democrat, we are axiously waiting for 2016 so we can kick out the sick old lunatic called Sata N’out of power, ur a great man and an inspiration only a fool cannot see who u really are, the peaceful handover of power , u one of the few in African history!! Love u big man

  40. #52 SEBASTIAN – Your jealousy will kill you!! Yes, USA have a dossier on RB and IT IS CLEAN! That is why they have given him the visa to travel. You will just kill yourself with that hatred you have for RB. RB is a class distance from Sata, Sata can’t even compare. You are talking about corruption, then explain why Sata is failing to explain to parliarment how he contracted the companies that renovated Sate House and name those companies??? Sata last week said it is his right to give jobs to his cadres – isn’t that corruption?? Your jealousy will just strangle you. You are blaming America for undermining development….don’t make me laugh…AFTER you voted an i.d.i.o.t Sata into office you want to blame America for your poverty??? — GET REAL!! RB is a star now! Sata will never be!

  41. A wise move by the Boston University to learn from an African leader who gracefully handed over power. A prophet is not appreciated in his own country.

But who am I fooling, we all want to read insults or praises.
While we sit hear and clown around, others are developing and moving forward.
Wake up from your dreaming my beloved country.

  42. there goes the president..PF cadres must be regreting..no jobs..no money in ur pockets..so much hatred spread around..tribalism has come back under satana like it was under chiluba..

  43. Farewell amudala, go and give your knowledge to those civilised enough to appreciate knowledge. Guy Scott, Kabimba etc are full of self praise for being elected to office and for what they promise to do in the rest of their five year term, meanwhile time is ticking without any discernible achievement of any single thing promised in 90 days, and now it is 180 days. Soon it will be 365 days and by all predictions they will still be praising themselves for achieving nothing. This lot promises to be the biggest political failure of all time. This country ain’t seen anything yet!

  44. Banda is just a play boy. He is going to USA  as just a continuation of tourist mentality. Why go lecture in USA when Zambia lacks lecturers? Why leave a country you have just been serving as the head of state. Why not wait to clear Mpundu Trust, Zamtel among others? Where ever you go just know that you introduced open corruption which hindered true national development. Your corruption is so much in you I hope you will not corrupt your way in USA. Good bye and good luck. Good riddance.

  45. For real they have all the powers to put everything on the table of analysis. Be the real you and come out with bthe mistakes you did in order to be helped.

  46. Farewell Mr President. After KK you are the best thing that happened to Zambia.Forgive our uncultured and unlearned friends who think the responsibility of running a current is light. You stepped up to the plate after we lost President Mwanawasa and left the country in good shape.Zambia is not where it should be but if we continue building from where you left off we will some day be where we are suposed to be.forgive the emotional PF cadres who accuse you of stealing and can’t substantiate their claims. All they have found so far are a few bikes.God bless Mr President

  47. 38.1@ KOBY2012

RB is not only going to lecture at Boston University. He will also hold various “Joint Corporate Circuit Speeches” to companies that want to invest in Africa and particularly Zambia, being a qualified Economist. So he will be doing the present government some good deeds and the whole Zambia by inviting foreign direct investments.

Thus, something that Sata cannot articulate as Bob Sichinga embarrassed his boss (Sata) in London a while ago that he is not educated to articulate things.

Therefore, stop calling me a liar on the $1m Dollars he will make per month – when you have no foundation to base your comments.

  48. 38.1@ KOBY2012
KOBY2012 – if you live abroad, I would ask you to do the same and encourage investors to pump their capital into Zambia, whether you are PF, MMD or UPND supporter. Because, we all in this together to take Zambia to the next level.

  49. It breaks my heart to perceive how gullible most of the bloggers here are, I mean even infants knew that the man was corrupt, just because those americans who have pathetic knowledge of the status quo I Zambia invites the old man does not mean he was or is clean, look at where we are as a nation 47 years after independence coz corruption iof these same leaders. So abafyashi maati, Henry alimatika. CGOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  50. In our beloved country if you have not done any wrong, then why should one be worried about the appropriate authority checking your bags when one knows that whatever belongs to you will not be taken away but that if they {authority} find things which one is not entitled to it will be taken away from you and then face the full force of the law.
Please let it be known that no one in Zambia is above the law. Hence none of us should be acting with impunity. Vic has arrested this case.

  51. Is this not a clever way of eluding arresting officers after the immunity is lifted. Whatever he said at the press conference, Banda was economical with the truth. He could not state where his begotten son Henry was hiding. Anyway you have been invited. Go and lecture in America. I hope Americans will learn something in matters of police brutality as was the case in the Mongu, Mazabuka and Mansa shootings, extravagant campaign strategies where even the forests were dressed in blue, underground banking as was the case where one former minister was helped to witdraw 2.1 billion kwacha from the bowels of the earth.

  52. I never liked RB while he was the republican president and likely many, my reasons are probably rooted in the unpatriotic and callous indifference, to the plight of Zambia, in the way Mmembe and his Post newspaper tainted RB. The man was not a saint and his public support for Chiluba left a lot to be desired and perhaps thats the very act that made the mud of corruption stick on the man. However, we are yet to see any substantive evidence against him. In my book of well serving Zambian presidents he will probably take 2nd spot behind his predecessor, LPM. The gullible (empty tins) accuse RB of extravagant travelling and fail to see that FDI followed much of his travels. Sata on the otherhand is now pleading with the very people he was pleadging chase out as a campaign promise.

  53. Special agent Dr M, You should be reminded that Boston University, were most former African leaders are invited to lecture, does not take thieving former presidents. that is the reason FTJ was not invited. By the way, they pay $ 15 000. per presentation. Ask KK, he used some of money at Dancing ith the Stars.

  54. A NUMBER OF BLOGGERS HAVE PROOF AGAINST RB FOR ALL THE CORRUPTION THAT HE HAS TAKEN PART IN AND YET EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM IS WAITING FOR RB TO BE TAKEN TO COURT AND BE FOUND GUILTY OF THE CRIME ON THE BASIS OF THE EVIDENCE THAT THEY ARE KEEPING TO THEMSELVES-HOW DOES THAT WORK? I THOUGHT INSTEAD OF BLOGGING YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE GIVING THE POLICE YOUR STATEMENTS FOR THEM TO USE AGAINST RB. OTHERWISE IF YOU KEEP ON TELLING IT TO FELLOW BLOGGERS/INTERNET-THE INTERNET/BLOGGERS WONT DO ANYTHING WITH THE INFORMATION-IT WILL JUST BE GOSSIP AND TARNISHING THE NAME OF RB WITHOUT ANY GAIN TO JUSTICE. SO IF ALL YOU HAVE AGAINST RB IS WHAT THE POST NEWSPAPERS HAS SAID-GIVE US A BREAK AND KEEP QUIET.

  55. Well, at least I will get to meet him in person in the three months he is around. Looking forward to asking him some questions, good timing Mr. President.

  56. We the younger generation won’t let Zambia slide by because someone lied and promised people jobs, good hospitals, free education and all.For those of you who will cowards to face Sata and his generation,i wish you good luck. For me and my gallant younger generation in Zambia,we are ready to fight, they can kill one of us but they won’t kill all of us.The PF government so far is clueless and pathetic. We Zambians don’t owe one Maiko Satana our lives,he has failed and the best he can do for now is to resign and retire to Kamuchanga or Masala or Kabushi….

  57. alabi should not run away he has a lot of answers to provide to the many unanswered questions. boston u r a disgrace bcos even evelyn hone cant invite that old fool to give a lecture. if i may ask alabi to lecture what? and all you fools who think alabi followed democratic principles to step down and give mcs bu presido are misguided, he was under very intense pressure, the heat so high that he could have killed us to remain presido but zedians were ready for him. ukende bwino!

  58. Let him go and wind up with his honey moon with his young wife but on condition that he delivers his on the run son for interogation on the cases pending against him.

  59. Who cares about where this thief/plunderer is going. Some of us are not interested in yo visit to USA , but we want to see u in court defending your self. Don’t even dare start provoking zambians we are not fools. Infact we are more intelligent than you. Keep all the lies you want to tell us to yourself, you have done more damage than good you waste president of zambia.
