President Hakainde Hichilema Secures Investment Commitments from CNMC and CRCC at FOCAC in Beijing

Share

On the sidelines of the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), President Hakainde Hichilema held bilateral meetings with key Chinese enterprises, including the China Non-Ferrous Mining Corporation (CNMC) and the China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC). The discussions focused on strengthening and expanding Chinese investments in Zambia, particularly in the mining and infrastructure sectors.

Upon returning to Beijing, President Hichilema expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the meetings, noting that both CNMC and CRCC have shown a strong commitment to maintaining and increasing their investments in Zambia. “We are glad to note that both companies are keen on keeping and increasing their investments in Zambia,” the President remarked.

CNMC Chairman Mr. Weng Gang informed President Hichilema that the corporation is expediting the operationalization of the 28 Shaft in Luanshya. To accelerate this process, CNMC plans to install seven additional pumps to expedite the removal of water from the mine. This move is expected to play a crucial role in boosting copper production, a key sector in Zambia’s economy.

“We are particularly glad to note that CNMC is in a hurry to ensure the operationalization of 28 Shaft in Luanshya,” President Hichilema said. He reiterated Zambia’s commitment to increasing copper production and repositioning the mining sector as a cornerstone of the nation’s economic development.

The President also emphasized the importance of ongoing trade and investment engagements as part of Zambia’s international diplomacy efforts. “We look forward to more trade and investment engagement as part of our international diplomacy during such missions,” he stated.

These meetings underscore Zambia’s proactive approach to securing foreign investment and highlight the strategic importance of the mining sector in driving economic growth.

    • Each trip our President makes Zambians come to know of new commitments from so called
Investors. When will we start seeing benefits
Of these trips as they are funded from us the
Tax payers.Hoping to see new investments
Brought in energy sector to reduce hours of
      Load shedding.

    • “Secures”? Really? Secures? Is the reporter a UPND cadre?
His story says HH held discussions on strengthening bla bla bla
Nothing has been secured. Can you secure a commitment sure? The real headline should have been HH begs for commitment from Chinese investors

  1. He has travelled the globe only to take us back to square one. Now you see why these people take our leaders for jokers. You keep going with a begging hand auctioning your generational wealth. Please stop the nonsense. Leave the mines alone, we are not gaining anything from them. Let the Chinese assist you with the load shedding problem which your western partners created to cripple you.

  2. Was told that recently he said he has done 90% of all the promises he made during his campaigns for his presidency. He lives in his own planet ( Kainde Hachihumba )

  3. Kikikikiki…….here we go again….i told you guys what to expect from this nonsensical summit…..Zambians are being taken for a joy ride indeed….”investment commitment”…..3 years in office and he is still making promises….these African leaders are jokers and i saw Ramaphosa touring a Motor Manufacturing industry in China and yet South Africa has one of the best Motor Manufacturing industries in the world

  4. Didn’t i tell you guys that he just went to China to take high resolution pictures and fool his gullible praise singers…..and this is the reason why we have loadsheding because of lack of leadership….our African leaders just spend their terms in office pretending like they’re doing something but in reality they’re doing nothing….

  5. An entourage of 500 costing taxpayers US$30 million just to go to China for more promises….RIGHT NOW THE ONLY THING THE PRESIDENT SHOULD BE WORKING ON IS ELECTRICITY CRISIS….and instead he went to a ” transformer” manufacturing company….you don’t need a transformer if you can’t Generate electricity….which University did HH go to???

  6. Africa’ s population is almost 2 billion if the counting is done accurately….and the entire African continent is failing to address Electricity crisis from Cape to Cairo…..and yet we have all what it takes to Generate electricity 24/7 for the entire African continent if we all come and work together as one continent…China is not the solution

  7. Same thing happened when they went to Dubai Expo…..they came with a thousand investments commitments and MOUs…..2 years down the line and nothing to show for it…am sure Jito Kayumba is busy making drone videos in China

  8. Shaking hands and smiling taking high resolution pictures in China……and this is exactly what all African leaders are doing right now in China….i saw Chakwera grining from ear to ear whilst taking pictures with the Chinese President…..i saw HH grining from ear to ear whilst taking pictures with the Chinese President…Ramaphosa too had his usual stupiddd smile on his face…..all thes Presidents spending millions in China wasting tax payers money

  9. TBEA sold faulty transformers and cables to ZESCO in 2012….and someone at ZESCO got massive kickbacks…
Why do we need transformers and cables if we can’t Generate electricity????….

  10. Could Africa’s great minds with similar visions come together to form a conglomerate and solve the continent’s challenges, including electricity, water, housing, food, and other socio-economic problems? Let us involve only ordinary, genuine, caring, and concerned people, without politicians, to resolve Africa’s issues. We’ve done enough talking and criticising; it’s time for action. We are currently at the bottom among others, but together, we can make a difference.

  11. @ wake-up
I genuinely agree with you….Politicians are a big part of the problem and a big hindrance to our development as a continent…if ordinary citizens can work together from Cape to Cairo the Africa will be even stronger than the USA or China

  12. Politicians live ultra comfortable lives whilst in power so they don’t care about their citizens…no wonder they always want to prolong their stay in office….the China Africa summit started in 2000 and the only benefiting country is China and our corrupt African leaders….China is very good at giving kickbacks…..

  13. President Chakwera went to Huawei in China and he wants to bring high speed internet to Malawi….misplaced priorities….our President went to visit museums and transformer manufacturing company….Ramaphosa went to a car manufacturing company and yet South Africa also is struggling with Electricity….no rain in Malawi which means no Tobacco farming and yet their President is worried about high speed internet

  14. If there is a race on who can get the most commitments then we are winning. But for those commitments to turn to reality we must be in the bottom five.

  15. He secured a commitment kikikikikiki! I suspect the writer is Hamasaka kikikikikiki
The Chinese are careful eh? They don’t want to commit money. Only a commitment

  16. @Razor
The Supreme leader Ayatollah Hakainde Hichilema has been “securing commitments since August 12th 2021……
The only problem with Politicians is that they don’t want to be told the truth or challenged….i know we have very intelligent individuals in our African continent who can come up with better ideas on how to sort out our challenges……the moment they identify you as being vocal then they will get rid of you…and if you have a business then they will cripple your business….

  17. Commitments have become like a religious order. When it comes to fruition you see only dry twigs where once there were buds. Nimuuzani soon it will be 48 hour load shedding followed by 1 hour of power.

  18. I do not know what Zambians see in HH. If you want the truth about this liar, just get in your car if you have one, go to the petrol station and fill your car, then go shoprite and buy your monthly groceries. After you are done, put your meat in your refrigerator then go and watch TV with your family. If you can happily do these then go sing daddy chololo.
