Government has announced that the country is expected to have sufficient rainfall in the 2024/2025 farming season, with most parts of the country expected to have normal to above normal rainfall.
Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Mike Mposha, says the rain forecast for this year’s farming season as compiled by the Meteorological Department indicates an improved rainfall pattern from last year with flush floods expected in flood prone areas.
Speaking at a press briefing, Mr. Mposha disclosed that normal to below normal rainfall, with some dry spells is expected in the North and Eastern parts of the country.
He added that delayed onset of rains by mid-December is expected over the extreme Northern and Eastern parts affecting Luangwa, Chirundu, Sinazongwe and Gwembe Districts.
Mr. Mposha highlighted that the forecasted above normal rainfall is likely to bring about agricultural pests and diseases and advised farmers to prepare adequately for them.
The Minister has since made an appeal to the civil society, church and the general citizenry to ensure that water ways and drainage systems are clear to avoid flooding and outbreak of fungal and water borne diseases such as Cholera and Dysentery.
Mr. Mposha has further appealed to the public to embrace alternative sources of energy for cooking and lighting to reduce the heavy dependency on hydro power generation.
He assured that government is putting in place measures to ensure that the solutions are easily accessible by Zambians.
Mr Mposha has however, reminded the farmers of the unpredictability of climate change and advised them to prepare for any changes to the forecast by constantly updating themselves and seeking advice from relevant ministries.
So these guys can predict rainfall when it suits them and blame climate change when it goes wrong. This is how useless our politicians have become. Basically the government is setting the tone in case we experience heavy rains. They know that load shedding will not be tolerated so excuses are coming thick and fast. Where do we get such incompetent people? Zambia’s educations system needs a serious overhaul and transformation.
The system does not tolerate competent people especially in critical areas of the economy we are just allergic unless yes bwana.
The system does not tolerate competent people especially in critical areas of the economy we are just allergic unless yes bwana. The education system has nothing to do with it.
It has nothing to do with our education system. It is the way we employ people in state owned companies like ZESCO. The extent of load shedding could be reduced if we had competent people working for ZESCO or if ZESCO was run by whites.
God says and man says
If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.
How much rainfall did they predict last year?
What precautions did we take?
Expected ??? Even with good rains Kariba wont fill only small dams
This ZESCO ISSUE will go beyond 2025
So lets be honest TELL the nation the truth
If you are the same Tikki I met in 2019/2020 here online, I think your metamorphosis has turned you into an independent thinker, a level-headed colourful butterfly from a not-so-good caterpillar yesterday. Perhaps you have observed how incapable the presidency is to METHODICALLY clean messy matters. Let me thank you today, comrade.
Here we go again…so this confirms that loadsheding is due to lack of leadership and corruption…..so now they’re busy signing electricity export contract with all our neighbors and beyond and the money ends up in the pockets of Politicians..ZESCO is being mismanaged and there’s rampant corruption and theft at ZESCO
@ FutureZed
So, if they do not tell the farmers about the rain pattern is it okay with you? Can you see people that is the reason why I always say the reasoning of the people with shanty compound mentality one day they will put as in trouble. Can you see for yourself the reasoning of this guy shocking!
@Peace Maker. Last year they told us not plant early. Me I decided to plant in October and my neighbours and passersby were wondering what I was doing…. the rest is history… I had a small bumper harvest while they were lucky to get as much as ten bags… that’s what @Future Zed is talking about.
While we’re talking about our experts… Michael Sata was governor of Lusaka…LCC applied to increase house rentals. First question Sata asked them was what was the reason for the increase…. answer We have no money in treasury…Why? People are not paying rent…Sata: If you have failed to collect the current rentals how do you think people will pay when you increase? Logic is not common.
Here we go again…like i always say loadsheding is due to lack of leadership and rampant corruption at ZESCO….so now they’re busy signing electricity export contracts with all our neighbors and beyond and the money ends up in Politicians pockets
Why do we have Ministry of Education and again Ministry of Science and Technology
Why Do we have Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Commerce
Why do we have Ministry of Lands…Ministry of water Development…Ministry of Fisheries and Ministry of Green Economy…4 Ministries doing the same thing
Why do we Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Energy
Why do we have Ministry of Foreign affairs and Ministry of Tourism
Why do we have Ministry of Infrastructure and Ministry of Local government
Why do we have Ministry of Labour and Ministry of community development
Why do we have Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Home Affairs and internal security
We need to get rid of all unnecessary Ministries
He sounded so good when he said the Zambian leadership is bloated. He promised he would bring down unnecessary bureaucracy to a lean but effective working group. That never happened. We still have DCs as political cadres on GRZ payroll. He also created new ministries and directorates for his cronies. Is this the change we yearned for?
@ Tikki
They will prioritize exporting 80% Electricity to our neighbours…Zambians will have to deal with the remaining 20%…ZESCO director need massive salaries and allowances
I believe management got increases recently but not confirmed
I still say ZESCO will bring this country to its knees before the year end
How is it possible that ZESCO employee’s are able to get full salaries when they y=have failed the nation?
HUNGER is biblical. DROUGHT is Godly. Must such statements come from seasoned leaders? Unless the president is a scapegoating failure.
I want to figure out what next year’s high rainfall will be called. I also wonder what my President will say if dry spells persist. We are in a F00LS paradise where even the meteorologists lack capacity and are unreliable.
it appears we are all on the same page but noone can answer or give an alternative person or solution
perhaps upnd stays with a new president ????
Isn’t this what they also predicted last year? And we all know what happened after that.
Arid ,semi arid and desert nations can all laugh at Zambia’s incompetence.
Israel ,Kuwait live around the yr planning well to sustain their giant economies without much rain so what’s our problem with our tiny economy?
@Mlevi Kachasu
Poor leadership…corruption and theft plus wasting our resources….ZESCO is mismanaged
Foesek, if it’s drought again munyelile!
