The Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) has bemoaned the sky rocketing prices of food being experienced in the country.
ZACA Executive Director Muyunda Ililonga says it is unfortunate that despite the Central Statistical Office recording a reduction in inflation rate, food prices have continued to rise.
Mr. Ililonga argues that the low inflation rate the country has been recording does not correspond with the high cost of consumer products on the market which he says is putting a lot of pressure on consumers.
He says the rise in food prices can partly be attributed to the depreciation of the Kwacha against major currencies on the money markets.
Mr. Ililonga has therefore appealed to government to put in place corrective measures that will address the depreciation of the local currency.

I agree with you senior citizen. It was a few days ago that Chikwanda was saying they will implement the wage increment wisely avoiding shocks on the economy. But this is contrary to his statements. Mr Ililonga’s economics went in a wrong direction by talking about depreciation of kwacha against major currencies. The whole inflation issue together with the depreciation of kwacha against major currencies is linked to the stupid more money in the pocket that is not accompanied by increased job creation and increased productivity.Â
Its very sad that even PF’s ceremonial Vice President Guy Scott has become the most useless chap shoving senseless rubbish on Zambians without self conscious to preserve. Look at his lie on our President medical trip to India. Shamelessly with a simplistic mind he goes in our august House informing Zambians that its a private visit. Our head of state’s sickness and surgery being a private issue? When Zambian tax payers press him to be a moralist with truth he calls Zambians’s call “nonsense”. Where did our President find such souless characters to president their simplistic mindset in state acts. This ceremonial VP needs bashi mafunde or alangizi to respect sickness of of head of state.
The health or surgery by foreign doctors of our dear President Sata is not a private issue but our challenge to pray for and know. Its a state affair we are financing to overcome. Ceremonial Vice President must immediately apologize to Zambians he has yet again lied to and insulted for asking on their dear President. sata must fire all these useless people and engage mature and serious patriots with a big picture of statecraft. Now we understand why besides his illegitimacy, Sata would never risk Scott with national Presidency but a ceremonial titular humiliating law reporting to Alexander Chikwanda.

Can someone explain why food prices are going up rapidly when Pf told us that inflation has dropped to only 6%.
So prices were rising slowly when inflation was 9% and faster when it is 6%. Something must not addd up here.
