President Hakainde Hichilema announced yesterday the preliminary findings of a forensic audit into the Ministry of Health, specifically the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA). The audit, commissioned by the government, marks a decisive step in Zambia’s fight against corruption and its efforts to improve healthcare service delivery.
The audit, covering the period from January 2023 to December 2024, has revealed instances of corruption where individuals have profited illicitly from drugs intended for the public. Speaking on the findings, President Hichilema reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rooting out corruption across all sectors.
“This audit exposes selfish individuals who have been exploiting resources meant to benefit our people,” said President Hichilema. “We will not tolerate corruption in any form, especially in critical areas such as healthcare. Our mission is to ensure transparency and accountability in all institutions.”
The president also expressed gratitude to Zambia’s cooperating partners for their support in the audit process, which underscores the government’s dedication to creating a robust and equitable healthcare system.
President Hichilema emphasized that similar audits will be undertaken in other key sectors to ensure public institutions prioritize the welfare of citizens over personal gain.
“We are committed to fighting corruption, past, present, and future,” he stated. “Together, let us build a better, more transparent Zambia for all.”
The findings of the forensic audit are expected to lead to further investigations and reforms aimed at strengthening oversight mechanisms within ZAMMSA and the Ministry of Health. This initiative is part of the government’s broader agenda to restore public trust and ensure that vital services reach the people who need them most.
The UPND government’s resolve to tackle corruption has been welcomed by citizens and international partners alike, signaling a renewed focus on accountability and service delivery.
Banene your promised there shall be no corruption in your government and now we see Masebo being moved to Lands walking freely but busy talking about corruption in PF .Put your house in order first than carrying on fighting Lungu. You have enough on your plate to deal with Mr President we demand leadership you promised us
wait for the contents of the report and action taken.Lungu is just another item on the agenda
I, too, miss the Hakainde Hichilema we had in opposition. Unlike the current one whose conscience seems to have been stolen. I want my HH back. I cry day and night that one day he would come back to us in the form we know him. Unless he was pretending all along.
Just give us the full report, not vama preliminary
No one will be arrested as cases continue dragging in courts. They continue appealing
As time is going.
The article fails to mention who these “cooperating partners” who were hired to carry out forensic audit. This is corruption. HH hired his white friends from outside Zambia to a job that can be done by Zambians. Was there a tender advertised for this audit?
Why condemn HH for being dispassionate and objective knowing that any Zambian might come with bias towards this instead of professionalism? A foreigner has no horse in the Zambian fight so he’s the best .
Honestly ,lets be objective sometimes for the best interests of Zambia to be served.
When containers of medicines and medical supplies were discovered in a Lusaka compound, the president neither said anything about thieving or corruption nor did he take any decisive action . The president chooses to close his eyes refusing to see current graft, but quick to call out opposition parties’s rottenness.
So True
If we could admit our failures pehaps we will get somewhere
Perhaps we nned to go back some years when the British put our coucils back on track and the Canadians did the same with our railways why dont we do this again with an expat in most civil service deptments Who cares as long as we get things going in the right direction
Even retired auditors to looking into money laundering we dont have to pay them as they can recieve 10 to 15% of recovered loot
He’s talking just because the funders have withdrawn from funding our institutions. Nobody will be arrested, the nearest is to ask them to retire with full benefits.
Funders confirmed they have not withdrawn anything. Perhaps you should withdraw yours
Funders are slowly withdrawing If you choose to believe some of these write ups more f00l you
Even Zesco announcing reduced load shedding will soon be retracted and obviously through no fault of ours yet again
Which slowly withdrawing!!?Mention one funder.Just one
The Swedes, Germans And British have reduced their funding
China is continuing for reasons best nown to them
one way or another they will get their pound of flesh
Yes, you are correct
So when are we seeing the people involved doing some prison time in addition to forfeiture of the stolen funds.
He should stop paying lipservice to the fight against crime. With his appointments of police chiefs who are focused on bootlicking him how can they fight crime?
His entire cabinet and all of us know that our crime fighting is weak, very weak, because police are corrupt and corruptible. His strategy would have been on strengthening crime fighting but he has been busy telling us about classifying new economic crimes. How does such lipservice help fight crime? Get rid of rotten police officers. Leave police to professionals not to politicians. Politicians are corrupt!
The truth is known……
Stop pretending and procrastinating, when you know we are a nation of people prone to corruption and laziness………
Most Zambian civil servants will steal or engage in corruption if presented with a chance………..
It is a generation thing…….
Needs at least 10 years of anti corruption education and indoctrination
