Why GBM And Others Must Remain In Jail !

Share

It’s obviously not in our nature to celebrate or rejoice when others have hit their lowest ebb in life; but we must, of course, endeavour to remain true to ourselves at all times, no matter what station we seem to occupy in life.

From the onset, we must confess we are ardent and fervent sympathisers of Hakainde Hichilema and his party, the United Party for National Development (UPND). We shall therefore seek to remain truthful and factual in our discourse. Yesterday, the lawyer representing jailed former Defence minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba otherwise popularly known as GBM, Charles Changano, intimated that his client is having challenges settling down in the hell-hole known as prison!

“ He is now unwell after he was denied the request to go for medical treatment abroad,” claimed Changano.

Mwamba is of course serving a five-year jail term for defrauding the Zambian government for goods, worth billions of Kwacha, he purportedly supplied to the ministry of defence when in fact not.

Apart from this, former Chifunabuli PF MP Ponde Mecha is literally ‘ordering ‘ President Hichilema to consider pardoning Emerine Kabanshi on compassionate and health grounds.

Mecha is wondering why there hasn’t been any advocacy for the former community development minister’s release from imprisonment for being found wanting for squandering the funds meant for the social cash transfer!

What do we make of all this?

We are privy to the fact that a few of our leaders – ministers, permanent secretaries and other senior government officials have gone into overdrive betraying the President and the Zambian people by conniving with hard-core crooks to defraud and dispossess our people of the national cake for their own selfish benefit!

What’s the best remedy of taming such characters?

If GBM and others are simply let off the hook today for whatever reasons; our current leaders will continue stealing from the Zambian people knowning that all that they’d need to do when the the time of reckoning comes with is to pretend they are grabbliing with life-threatening illnesses and voila……they are out to enjoy their ill-gotten wealth!

    • I just don’t understand what is wrong in this country, there is a drought looking right in our eyes and somebody must be writing about GBM sure. Why are people in this country so idle despite the President rightly calling for hard work. Shouldn’t the author be researching and sharing drought resistant crops that can still be planted now instead of researching prisoners

  1. What about the mining companies that are not paying taxes and sharing their profits with politicians? What about that daylight Great Robbery taking place everyday? Is that not the real corruption that is affecting us today and can be of material benefit to Zambians if corrected? Instead they go after political opponents and at the end of the day, Zambians will not benefit anything from this “anti-corruption campaign”. Release all the political prisoners like GBM and Chitotela (as well as Why Me, Jackson Chama and many others)

    • Until our politicians realise they are civil servants chosen by us and stop acting like our God’s we are going nowhere
Its disheartening to hear we are a budding Nigeria

  2. Corruption is complex. Criteria include quantum, sector, beneficiary and harm. First, the GBM case was political corruption. The cause and solution are both political. Two, harm was minimal insofar as delivery met specifications. Wash out would be more realistic than playing Holier than Thou. Easy targets will lead country nowhere

    • Not true, ………

Any form of corruption has adverse effects…….

All those over priced contracts could have help hundreds of other families if they had been spread out………..

How can you, as a Dr, want to turn a blind eye to corruption ?

That is the difference with whites and black people, no matter how educated we are ……….

Bending normal rules and laws that gorvern society are broken at will and that is normalised……..

  3. GBM deserves it because he’s unprincipled….if he was not greedy and a coward he could be our vice president.
There are people who should be grateful to Edgar Lungu…. and the fact that Michael Sata died when he did…. Elvis Nkandu, Musokotwane. Nevas and sorry Mr Rupiah Banda…. Sata was hell bent to have these individuals behind bars. Edgar didn’t even mention them even once.

  4. Yes you are right but you should include the current plunderers. Jail is not only for the members of the former governors….in fact a new and fresh case is more interesting than old and vengeful motivated cases….. not that they didn’t steal.

BUT OF COURSE YOU ARE CELEBRATING. I WONDER WHY YOU HAVE NEVER ADVOCATED FOR JUSTICE FOR THE PF NWP CHAIR WHO WAS MURDERED BY UPND MEMBERS.

    • He is so cowardly about his opinion he has to hide in the first person plural.
He says “We” when he means “I” He always does this in his silly articles

  6. if u cant do the time, do not do the crime. plain and simple. No bail for plunderers. Shame on you for supporting plunderers that were stealing and eating alone. Let them rot in jail where they belong.
