Fred M’membe is offside; the President can’t be bothered by Why Me!

Share

In a Facebook write up titled , “Release Francis Kapwepwe (Why Me) ….” Socialist party proprietor Fred M’membe bands around a litany of aspersions:

“Why does Mr Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND government continue to go against the law, and the promises they made to the Zambian people? Can the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Mr Jack Mwiimbu and the Inspector General of Police Mr Graphael Musamba explain to the nation the continued and unlawful detention of Tiktok blogger Mr Francis Kapwepwe a.k.a WHY ME in Livingstone for many months now?”

Simply put, M’membe is holding the President accountable for the continued incarceration of the so-called Why Me. M’membe knows it in his heart of hearts that the President is not responsible for the continued detention of Kapwepwe – an uncultured and uncivilized young man who has unfortunately found it fashionable to ‘undress’ elderly people in society while enjoying copious amounts of his chilled Flying Fish! Who is Kapwepwe for the President to be bothered about him? How many youngsters find it a pleasure today to abuse cyber space to defame and malign the leadership of this country with impunity due to poor upbringing?

Can the President surely afford to lose precious time instructing the cops to be arresting the likes of Why Me when he’s just like any other excitable young man who finds himself in conflict with the law! Ichemeni ba M’membe; the President has serious business to attend to, to be preoccupied with trivial things. Who knows, this may even be the work of some overzealous law enforcement officers acting outside the parameters of the law? The one to discipline them isn’t the President but actually their immediate supervisors.

This wannabe socialist was for a long time a capitalist running a flourishing business empire particularly, The Post Newspapers. We therefore don’t expect him to find it complex to easily understand that there are hundreds of people languishing in detention for various offences in our correctional facilities around the country. This has been the trend since the days of Kaunda. As opposed to bringing the name of the President into contempt or ridicule, we expected the owner of the Socialist party to be pushing government to equip the justice system with the right tools to see to it that cases are disposed off expeditiously. Why should the entire President be preoccupied with punishing a badly brought up chap who has nothing better to do than spewing unprintable?

As a responsible opposition leader, we expected the proprietor of the Socialist party to be directing queries regarding the continued detention of this young man to Jack Mwimbu, the internal affairs and security minister or indeed the Inspector General of Police.

    • You need to understand what brought about his detention and not that Mmembe doesn’t understand law. The detention of WHY ME should interest the president because he’s involved in the so-called HATE SPEACH arrests. If your tribesman calls other people monkeys he’s not detained but if it’s the other way round he’s detained. Ask yourself why would a boy from Kalulushi be transferred to Southern Province for detention?

  1. Why Me is a citizen of the Republic of Zambia and has rights under the Constitution. UPND govt have stolen those rights, just as they have done for many Zambians. Under Hitler’s dictatorship people lost their rights gradually. Each day new laws were passed and before anyone knew it, they were in a Police State. Zambian can not afford to lose our hard earned democracy to a bunch of inexperience and incompetent people in the name of UPND govt and their autocratic master HH.

  2. Bill Kaping’a we know you are the one reporting people to police for useless hate speach. In your quest to protect your illegal mine you are ready to sacrifice innocent people by having them detained. God doesn’t go to sleep, don’t forget.

    • Floods are even worse than drought. Like you said, they will destroy everything and cause more hunger and create destitution.

  3. Kapinga, Educate yourself on democracy which Zambia returned to in 1991. In a democracy people are more important than their status. That’s why each person has freedom of speech and one vote.
Only God knows who is an “uncultured and uncivilized young man” not some potbanging UPND cadre pretending to be an analyst on LT.

  4. The president must be bothered about the welfare of it very Zambia. Even from overzealous law enforcers who may have detaine Y Me. It takes a Few Good Men to conquer the works of darkness. It may even include releasing your sworn enemy. Do good.

  5. He says the president cannot interest himself in the detention of one Whyme? How can he not be when he’s the one behind the intimidating citizens not agreeing with him? Soon after elections he resurrected cases involving PF officials and recently one involving Jay Jay Banda…. but no mention of the Upnd thugs who murdered Mr Konga. There’s a report of a Mwiimde who literally took over Kawambwa police station….no mention again..or at least condemn violence.

  6. @Tikki
I saw that and realized just how shallow our president is. He wants to philosophise over which disaster is better? Really? Like children watching a cartoon of bugs bunny disasters in a nursery.
An adult and a leader at that, sets up preventions and mitigation for whatever kind of disaster. One needs to prepare for these. Crying isn’t for a leader.

  7. This boy should be claimed by some elderly person and offer apology for his insolence. Names do not matter. But who the hello is this boy. Can we do some DNA? It is wong to rush to the President when we can organise ourselves to do DNA tests. We need to be practical.

  8. This president is a disaster: He has failed to muster competent Zambians around him and instead depends on his kinsmen from Bwengwa. 2.Has failed to maintain good relations with our neighbors like Zimbabwe but instead worships people like King Charles . Failed to manage the energy sector whether you are talking about fuel or electricity supply. 4. Under his watch the food security he found has collapsed. He has also failed to respond to the fact that the Northern part of Zambia receives more rain than the other parts. Some thing which has been well known the past 20 years or so. 5. Has promoted division in the country by interfering in other political parties and imprisoning their leaders. etc

  9. Just look at the Author who tries to remain relevant. This one cam even defend someone who has stolen from him as long us he belongs to you know which group.
